[/IMG] Where to begin?
Mist was still in ruins, and Rydia was wandering her way away from the Feymarch more and more these days. Her mind had been drawn back to the group of friends she had come to care for here awhile back. Each of the faces of those she knew began to flicker in her head. Every individual, their face and features moving through the young woman’s mind as she felt the corners of her lips curl upwards. There was…Cecil, Rosa, Edge…and many others that seemed to flood her head as did the memories of their journey together. Thinking back on how long it had been…Rydia frowned and looked down, it had been about a year since Mist was destroyed and her mother’s dragon had been slain. From there, Rydia had to grow up. She was without a family, but thankfully Cecil hadn’t agreed to kill her as Kain had suggested, that is, since the king of Baron had ordered them to do so. Had that been the case…well then the lives of Summoners would’ve been wiped out right then and there. Rydia was the only one left.
But she wasn’t completely alone. After awhile…it became clear to her. Cecil and the gang were the people she needed to care about, they were her friends, and no matter how far apart on the map they may be…well hey, friendships can stretch over thousands of miles. And that is why she had traveled this way…towards Eblan. Leaving the Feymarch behind, Rydia sought out her first destination, which of course was Eblan, and she knew very well at least one person would…or at least should be here. Oh how nice it would be to encounter Edge, even if he had tried ignoring her at Rosa and Cecil’s wedding- which was VERY mature and only made Rydia want to roll her eyes at the ninja- she still was happy to have made it this far by herself and maybe coincidentally, she could run into someone else to? It was a long stretch but a girl could hope couldn’t she? If no one else just so happened to be around here, then she knew her next journey would lead her to Rosa and Cecil. She needed to see how the happy couple was holding up, what was new, and of course, they had to miss her! Smiling to herself at the thought, Rydia stood quietly before taking a step and entering the village of Eblan.
Turning every so often to look at the buildings in place, Rydia just kept her eyes peeled for anything that looked familiar. Her bright green appearance did however seem to turn a few heads. Walking with proud strides, she kept her hands swaying at her sides with her sleeves blowing slightly from her pace and from the wind in the air. It wasn’t every day you saw a lovely young lady strolling through your village with a really GREEN ensemble on…with green hair to match. It never bothered her if people looked at her funny, weird, or even admiringly, she was just Rydia…there was no changing that, besides! Being the last of something surely meant you had to stand out, right? Then again, the group she decided to attach herself to didn’t exactly blend in with the rest of the crowd either. Really, when it came down to it, that’s all Rydia cared about, their thoughts meant something to her…the rest of society wasn’t all that important in what they thought about her, or the town, or whatever else they had decided to talk about. It wasn’t what was on the outside that mattered, as Rydia had learned from Cecil, was that one’s inner character is what matters most.
Something then caught her eye…stopping abruptly and turning to face a street vender, Rydia stared at the objects the cart had to offer. Some ribbons, beads and all that other lovely stuff. Walking over as green eyes sparkled, Rydia began to look at all the items and wonder if she should buy one, just because she was here. Picking up a gold ribbon, Rydia held it up towards her hair and looked at the woman vender who smiled sweetly at her and nodded. “It looks lovely, and matches your outfit so nicely.” Just then, the cart that was holding all the beautiful items was practically shoved away by some running citizens. Rydia looked around frantically trough the small crowd and then back towards the smashed cart and frowned before noticing what was causing all the chaos. Looking at a fiery orange flame hound, Rydia looked towards the vender and handed her the ribbon. “I’ll help you clean this up once this is all taken care of.” She said with a nod before striding towards the fiery animal and standing her ground. If there was one thing Rydia was good at, it was black magic. Perfect against these types of critters, and if push came to shove…summon Shiva. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 947 Muse: Good! Edge had seen too much in his life to be unaccustomed to death and the images that accompanied it. Still he couldn't bring himself to look at the mangled body before him, nor to take a deep breath and inhale the smell that threatened to nauseate him. She had been here, down an alley that was usually reserved for the butcher's scraps, for quite a while, at least a day, with no one aware that her disappearance was a permanent one. The wounds - if you could call her injuries wounds - indicated that her murderer had been something far more vicious than a human being. Edge couldn't exactly tell one feral monster's work from another, but his best guess would have been a dog, or something else with a long snout. Along with the two ninja that had come across the young woman's body, Edge stood over her, arms folded, feeling as if he should do something but not knowing exactly what. So he continued to stand, a cloud of silence pulled over the three of them. What was there to say? "One of the merchant's daughters?" He asked, though he knew already that she was. A rhetorical question at least helped to set things in motion again. "It would seem so, your highness."
If all of these creatures had been visiting the city just for a chance to see the reconstruction taking place, Edge would have had no problem with them. Instead, every drooling, bloodthirsty beast within two hundred miles had decided the best time to visit the nearby kingdom of Eblan was when the outer reaches of the castle and the village it watched over had enough holes for a dragon to snake its way inside. The attacks from these creatures on innocents were spread out just enough that trying to put an end to them for good appeared to almost be an impossible task to completely bring them to an end, yet they were frequent enough to have the majority of the civilians panicking, especially in the merchant's district where the majority of these attacks were happening. Edge turned his eyes away after glancing the body again, letting them rest on one of the troops beside him. "Make sure the family's informed and have some of the attendants at the castle clean the body. If they can't afford a funeral, tell them the royal house will fund one and provide whatever arrangements they wish to make for her burial, as well."
Receiving a nod from the ninja, who made his way out of sight, Edge turned and began walking from the alley, the other man falling in over his shoulder, matching Edge's pace. "The two of us are going to go monster hunting." Edge had quickly learned that four-fifths of his job involved keeping mass panic from erupting whenever something went wrong. Considering the people of Eblan were all....well, mostly....intelligent, strong people, that job hadn't been a difficult one until this monster infestation had broken out. Now even Edge felt like tearing his hair out from his boiling emotion at these monsters. Not that he'd ever really tear his hair out, mind you. No one wanted a bald king, anyway. "If we're after them all, my lord, we'll need a few more men." Edge turned and looked over his shoulder at the ninja. "No, we're after the one that killed that girl. To entertain ourselves, we can kill any other monsters insane enough to try to attack us in a butcher's back alley." "But one's like finding a needle in a haystack!"
Edge turned towards the ninja, a slyness to his eyes. "Well, who would know more about a needle in a haystack than a ninja?"
---------------
The two hours of hunting that followed soon after were fruitless. Both Edge and his companion, plus one additional feminine member to their little party who had been on the losing side of a fight with a crawler who had been interested in leaving her post to help (and heaven knew Edge needed a woman around him today), had only run across a few smaller creatures that mostly spent their time ravaging vegetable patches instead of human beings. The two, and then three, had worked their way around the edge of the merchant's district and back around nearly to where they'd started from, seeing nothing that would have had any interest in tearing apart a human just for the meat or the sport of it. Still, Edge would keep looking - slaying the monster that murdered their daughter was the least he could do for the family of the victim, especially since when he'd been cooped up in the castle the last few days without the luxury of actually going out to hunt some of these monsters down himself.
But he didn't have to drag the other two around with him, especially since nothing worthwhile had happened to keep them motivated. As he stepped towards the corner of the building while they scouted out the area, Edge addressed them. "The two of you should head back to the castle and grab something to eat. I'll keep searching for another hour or two." Despite knowing that both of them would have loved to go back to the castle, Edge waited for the protest, and it came. "Your highness, why don't you head back with us? We can send out more men to pick up where we left off." "And what if you stay and find the creature? We don't want to see any monster get the better of you." Edge shook his head, frowning a bit at the vote of no confidence. He'd let it slide - she was a rookie. An attractive rookie. He turned his gaze their way. "No, I'll keep up the hunt and catch up with you a bit later." The two looked to each other for a moment, wavering on whether to stay or go, before they began to leave. He folded his arms over his chest as they began to leave, his voice causing them to pause for a moment. "Oh, and if I encounter the monster, no need to worry...." He passed the female a wink. "I'll make sure I dazzle it so well I'll come back without a scratch."
Edge had always found himself driven to action in these sorts of situations. Strange motivations? Maybe. Wrong motivations? No, he wouldn't say so. Seeing a bloodied teenager serving as a damned monster's meal likely would have have led anyone to do exactly what Edge was doing - if that anyone had a soul, at least.
Only a few moments had passed when a young girl, possibly ten years old, rushed past Edge as he dropped to the ground. Though she looked frightened a moment and let out a yelp when his feet hit the ground, she quickly recovered and looked....even more afraid of whatever she'd been running from. Edge could hear a ruckus up ahead, squinting concerned eyes in that direction. "What is it? What are you running from?" He asked her, trying to make his tone as comforting as possible. The girl jabbed a chubby hand in the direction of the noise. "There's a firey dog loose in the square! It wus knockin' things over an' runnin' people off!" Almost beaming inside with the good chance that her 'firey dog' could be his killer monster, Edge reached down and put a hand on her shoulder. "Run straight home and tell your parents! I'll see to the dog." Edge instructed her, heroically, and took speeding off in the direction of the sound of chaos before him.
The hound wasn't hard to find, considering that screaming women and angry, yelling men made a bread-crumb trail away from the scene of the creature's crime. Edge came up behind the hound, which seemed to be completely enamored by something on the other side of the square that Edge could not yet see. Bringing his hands together, Edge quietly spoke the word "Frost.", the spell forming itself a moment after. Though passionately yelling out a spell for casting seemed like the fun thing to do these days....Edge was used to being a bit more subtle. The icy spell lashed out at the hound, making a pretty impressive display of cooling off the beast's haunches and forcing it to let out a howl. Only seemingly annoyed by Edge's attack, the creature furiously looked between Edge and who or whatever was on the other side of the building that blocked the king's vision. As a silent retort to the creature, the King of Eblan squinted his eyes to focus and brought his large shuriken into both hands, crouching into a fighting stance.
Whomever the hound had been staring down could thank Edge later for being such a timely semi-distraction.

[/IMG] Green eyes narrowed on the flaming animal that seemed to be gazing right back, that stare that meant you were next on the list of destruction. Rydia simply shifted her weight and stood there, her arms at her sides and her heals a tad bit off the ground so she could rock back and forth just in case there was a need to dart out of the way. She wasn’t a physical fighter, so evasion was big for her. To the left and right she rocked, the square was mostly cleared out, and even if it wasn’t it seemed this fiery hound knew the target he wanted to take out next, who could miss it? A bright green target that seemed to just pop out from the rest of the crowd, not that it bothered her all that much, Rydia was pretty sure she could handle this thing a lot better than the civilians could. After all, she was a summoner with amazing talents when it came to black magic. She was so confident that with a few good hits of ice and this hound would be nothing but embers when all was said and done. Glancing back at the vender Rydia claimed she was going to assist momentarily, she nodded, gesturing for the woman vender to move away and seek shelter until it was safe. It was so great when people took your word and did as you said.
As Rydia pulled one of her arms back and raised it a bit towards eye level off to her left, she was about ready to cast a significant amount of ice towards the beast before someone had beaten her to it. Her face instantly fell, who was dropping in on her turf? Wasn’t Rydia supposed to be having the heroic moment and saving the innocent today? Oh well, the help was certainly appreciated since the hound looked as if it wanted to make Rydia into a chew toy. As the animal had directed its attention towards someone else, Rydia straightened up and folded her arms gazing at the fiery animal just in case it turned on her and came to attack again. As the square was practically deserted, Rydia then went to help pick up some of the cart and get things looking better than they had before. Picking up various ribbons and pieces of jewelry, Rydia piled them onto the cart and began to move them around, making It look as it once had before the chaos erupted. Every few seconds though, she would gaze back at the flame hound, just to be sure.
Kneeling down and adjusting part of the bottom of the cart, Rydia gazed around the flame hound just to try and see who on Earth was on the other side trying to take on a beast like this. Rydia’s face went blank for a moment…it seemed pretty ironic that the person she came to Eblan to see…was just across the square! Standing up, she placed her hands on her hips and rested her weight mostly on her right foot before shaking her head some. Leaving him to do it all just wasn’t fair, even if he was the ninja king of Eblan…or just Edge. Strolling over with quick steps, Rydia let her arms sway at her sides before lifting one up again like she had began to do once before. Throwing her hand down then, she felt the magic flow through her veins before a burst of icicles and frost appeared under and around the hound. As the ice seemed to burst and crack, the hound yelped before turning back towards Rydia, which only made her smile a tiny bit. If Rydia didn’t have so much pride to her name right now, she might admit that right now she was being a bit competitive. It had been Edge that told her that fighting was ‘work for grownups?’ Well no matter, she was an adult now, this would show him to be such a hot shot ninja…not that anything could get in the way of that unstoppable force.
“Hey! Hot shot! Better take notes, this is how the real grownups fight!” The young green haired woman shouted across the square before spinning once around, her sleeves moving swiftly along with the rest of her garments. Even though she didn’t have a staff with her or anything, that didn’t mean she couldn’t summon! She could do whatever without a simple prop. Right as she was going to summon Shiva, Rydia felt something small run into her right leg. Looking down she saw a little girl clinging to her. Something just made her brain go back to when she was a kid, not all that long ago…her hometown, Mist, was being destroyed and her mother had died. Rydia had been lost, but thankfully there was someone to look out of her, looking at this little girl, she saw a bit of her own past. “Everyone started running! Mom and Dad were pulled into the crowd, have you seen them!?” The girl sniffled looking up at Rydia with teary eyes. Kneeling down at the girl, Rydia wasn’t sure what to say. She was sure the girl’s parents were fine, just a little ways away.
“Listen, kiddo. I don’t know-“ Then Rydia’s gaze looked at the hound who then growled after recovering from the ice attack. Leaping towards her and the small girl, the hound was definitely going for an actual attack. Rydia panicked and stepped in front of the girl and inching her back and keeping guard in front of her, even though Rydia was far from a physical attacker, let alone a defender. (lol insert STEELGUARD here?) “Stay back.” She said back to the girl who was still clinging to one of her legs, Rydia was just standing there waiting to impact of the attack as she figured there wasn’t enough time to summon Shiva before the attack would hit her, that is unless Edge decided to play the hero. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 1100 Muse: Great! Edge's confidence in the rage-filled gaze of the monster may have seemed completely and totally unwavering, a hand twirling one of the twin shuriken and his mostly-concealed face no more worried than the rest of him. Knowing well how dangerous these flame hounds could be, however, wondering how he could take one down on his lonesome with his distinct lack of strong spells. Edge would prefer not to return to the castle as tonight's meal, cooked a little more well-done than most of the nobles preferred. They truly could be some damned pampered fairies when they wanted to be. Times like this, he could use a strong magic-user at his side. A strong, beautiful magic user...with green hair and.....other features worth mentioning....and who happened to have access to powerful ice-oriented creatures of myth.
Ahem. Focus, Edge. Focus.
He made his move. Sweeping his right arm forward, Edge released his shuriken with a practiced skill towards the beast. The monster gave a howl while the weapon sped towards it, attempting to lunge out of the way but finding itself clipped in the shoulder nonetheless. It turned its eyes down, angrily heaving its chest at the pain in its shoulder. As soon as the hound looked back up, Edge was upon it, a flurry of blades and quick-hitting spells that had him disappearing, reappearing, and every other kind of appearing possible. He succeeding in landing an impressive number of blows before the creature struck out in response, sending Edge propelling himself off of the hound's head and sailing feet-over-head back to land where he'd started. Fair enough start to the fight, Edge thought. Anytime he could get that close to one of these monsters without his cape catching on fire, he would count it a victory. Speed might have been a game-changer......but speed mattered very little when it came to streams of flame.
To his credit, Edge's eyes had not wandered from the hound during his entire assault, and they still refused to waiver as he caught his breath and drew his second katana (as, at this point, both shuriken were firmly wedged into the ground near the hound). Edge primed himself for another assault on the creature, preparing to cast Tremor, as it seemed like the best idea that would come to his mind to stay unpredictable. However, the spell that hit the hound certainly didn't look like Tremor. It looked like something Edge had no idea how to cast. Knitting his eyes a moment, Edge watched the spell wreak havoc on the hound and found himself idling, too surprised by the sudden attack to really take advantage of the opportunity to strike again.
His eyes searched the area, which he initially believed to be empty. But once his eyes caught a glimpse of the origin, Edge could have been confused for having completely forgotten about the hound. Oh, he knew it was still there, itching to have him as its afternoon meal. For now, however, Edge found himself caught in a trance, even as the voice of the being his eyes wouldn't pry loose of reached his ears.
Well....huh.
Edge barely even registered the little girl running up to Rydia for the moment, so gripped by the fact that the green-haired summoner was right there. Here in Eblan. Helping him fight. And he found himself trying to think of a good, flirty line as a comeback, but nothing really came to mind. Wow, he must have really been out of practice.
No, no, not out of practice. Just accustomed to the boring palace women....he didn't have to work that hard to please them with a line. Rydia was tougher.
And finally, Edge's sight returned. His eyes darted between the summoner, the girl, and the hound just before the creature made its move. He processed the information quickly, his legs already churning as Rydia stepped in the hound's path. Every sound was amplified, from Rydia's voice to the pitter-patter of the hound's feet. His own breathing sounded like a throbbing in his ears, and with every breath that passed Edge cursed himself for starting to move too late. But as hound closed on summoner, Edge realized one very important fact.
He was a ninja.
Launching himself towards the hound, he extended his arm and shoved his katana out before Rydia. The hound's momentum found it impaling its own snout on the sharp edge of the blade, and the king of Eblan held strong. Edge's momentum didn't serve him much better, considering he crashed right into the side of the hound's head and went skidding off into the ground, but for all accounts, his little interception had worked perfectly.....aside from the fact that he was now on his back, robbed of one of his katanas (which was still stuck in the hound's face), and mere feet away from one of the most vicious monsters he knew. A vicious monster that was already tearing his way in pure, feral fury.

[/IMG] Standing there in shock of what she was witnessing, Rydia continued to take in the scene. Keeping her eyes on the hound, flickering to Edge, and back to her own location in regards to where the flame hound was. Of course, luckily it wasn’t all that focused on her, more focused on Edge, not that she could blame the hound, he was probably more threatening at least by the looks of it. Watching as he attacked the hound, Rydia just took a few steps backwards to keep out of the way incase either of them were sent flying towards her, she didn’t want to get caught in that. Placing both hands on her hips, she began plotting her next attack. Another ice bit would probably be helpful, but it would only anger the beast, not really take him down seeing as her previous attack didn’t do much but make the hound whimper and get angry. Perhaps it was time just to get this done and over with so the two could converse, catch up, or just make comments to each other that were completely pointless. Shiva it was! The greatest of all ice summons.
It was then the small girl began to blubber to the summoner. It was not good to fight when there were innocent people in the way, it just gave you another thing to look out for, they couldn’t get hurt and you had to watch your own attacks just in case they backfired or were counterattacked. Rydia simply hushed the girl and stood in front of her as tall as she could before the hound then advanced on herself and the small girl she was guarding. Oh what fun this was. With a small scowl appearing on Rydia’s face, she almost wanted to flinch back as the hound was so close, she was just waiting for impact of some sort of attack, but…it never came down to her getting hurt. Closing one eye before realizing that Edge had stepped in and ‘saved the day’, Rydia let out a deep sigh of relief. Quickly turning and kneeling down to the girl, Rydia nudged her along to a couple that was waving at her frantically just up ahead. “Go, go!” She whispered watching as the child made it to safety, such a lovely moment, knowing you kept someone safe, but there was no time for heartfelt moments, turning back to the fight…
Looking at the hound with almost a grimace, the first thing she had noticed was the blade sticking out of its face. That was not something you saw every day, but at least it was an attack? And it was the one that had gotten the hound to not harm Rydia herself. She owed Edge for that one…guess it was time to return the favor! Frowning, she watched as the beast shook its head frantically trying to get the blade out of its face, as if moving around a lot would help. Once the creature decided it was a lost cause, it’s gaze went to its attacker, teeth barred and snarling before leaping forward to attack the Ninja. Quickly, Rydia felt the power within, and summoned Shiva. Summons circles appeared near her as the flame hound continued its stride towards Edge. “Freeze!” She shouted before casting her own bit of magic of ice as Shiva then appeared out of the icy blue summon circles. “Shiva, take care of this.” She commanded as the icy summon then moved her arm about in a few graceful spins, and a repeated flurry of ice magic was sent upon the flame hound, keeping it in place and simply attacking it, one cast after another. Hopefully that would do the trick. Shiva was a powerful summon, and if she couldn’t defeat a simple hound like that…then it’s be a real shame.
A solid piece of ice then appeared around the hound, shards of ice sticking out from the pain structure before it shattered heavily and the beast went down with a thud, the katana still in the side of its face. Running over to Edge, Rydia kept taking a few glances back at the twitching hound, just to make sure it wasn’t getting up anytime soon, or at all. Bending her knees a bit, Rydia held out a hand to Edge with a tiny smile. Quite a coincidence that they both happened to be here for that fight…maybe it was a sign? Next thing you knew, maybe Rosa or Cecil would show up? Or…maybe not. That was pushing your luck a bit. Even running into Edge was a positive thing, it was less effort to put forth by Rydia. “Thanks for that, Edge. I hope you don’t plan on ignoring me this time around?” she questioned a bit jokingly yet a bit curious since he hadn’t said anything yet. If he was ignoring her still…that was just childish! Though sometimes that was to be expected from someone like him. Not that it bothered her at Rosa and Cecil’s wedding, but of course it would bother her now, traveling all this way just to see him. If he ignored her…there just might be a tantrum to be thrown, a childish hissy fit just to get some attention. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 990 Muse: Good, I think Tagged: Edge! Others? Attempting to get to his feet and properly defend himself, Edge discovered there was yet another issue he should have added to his previous list - his wrist, belonging to the hand that had impaled the beast's face on his katana, seemed to refuse to work without sending a burning pain shooting up his arm. He tucked the wrist up close to his chest and winced. Okay, so he'd technically have to fight the hound off with one hand tied behind his back. He'd done as much before - part of his training as an heir of Eblan. Of course that training had been against human beings that didn't necessarily want to kill him - Edge doubted the hound had the same sympathies. In fact, after pawing at the blade in its face a bit and pacing angrily, the beast turned back to face him with the same snarl as before. Edge would have mumbled incoherently to himself at the turn of events, but he actually couldn't think of anything to say. Instead, he spared a glance over his shoulder at Rydia at the sound of her voice, ensuring that both she and the girl were still intact.
And the beast charged on cue just as Edge looked back towards it.
Snapping to action, Edge managed to force himself briskly up onto a knee and sheathed his lone katana, using his good hand to produce a dagger from inside his jacket. Taking a moment to line up his aim while the hound lumbered his way, Edge flung the dagger, backhanded, at the hound's eye. Edge knew he'd hit his mark when the creature yelped and turned its head to the side in pain. Unfortunately for Edge, the hound continued bounding towards him distractedly, and the king was forced to plant on both hands - the good and the bad - and shoved himself backwards so he wouldn't be stampeded. A muffled grunt escaped his clenched teeth, but there was no other indication that he was actually hurting. Edge didn't mind having an injury or two tended to now and then, especially if there were a number of shyly kind white mages around, but as there was not a single one around he'd prefer to keep up appearances for the time being.
Ice magic crashed against the slowed hound in a brilliant display of power, with Edge having to cover his own face to keep the shards from catching him in the eyes. He finally turned to watch the brilliant summon-y performance put on by his female comrade. Ahh, just like old times. Except....Edge was usually standing and fighting actively back then, instead of barely propping himself up in the street as the temporary audience to Rydia's spectacle. Not that Edge disliked the view he had of that spectacle. He only wished he'd bothered to pick up a few healing spells from Rosa when he had the chance....if he even had the aptitude for those spells....so he could re-involve himself in the action. Though Shiva and Rydia seemed to be handling things just fine themselves. Edge spent the next few seconds feeling useless, watching as the hound finally collapsed under the assault, until Rydia's footsteps approached him. He turned to look up into her face, turning his neutral expression into a wide grimace-grin as he pulled his mask down, taking her hand with his good left which made him end up sideways as he got up; his right hand remained protected against his chest.
He stared into her eyes for a few moments just to enjoy the fact that she was here, in the flesh, in his kingdom. Give the king some credit - he was managing to keep his gaze on her face instead of....slightly lower. The hound was clearly forgotten for the time being. "You never even thanked me for anything before." He commented, the grimace part of his expression disappearing. "If I was to argue that you were the one ignoring me, I wouldn't get far, would I?" Needless to say, arguing was the last thing on Edge's mind.

[/IMG] This battle didn’t take as long as Rydia had initially thought, then again she had assumed she’d be fighting this thing alone, but low and behold, the very person she had been looking for. It was quite a coincidence actually, she didn’t expect him to just be right here, she was pretty sure it’d take her a lot longer to find him. He after all was a king now, King of Eblan which give him many duties to attend to. Things just became easier and easier these days. Battles ending quickly, those you were looking for ending up in the same exact spot you were at. After Shiva had beaten the hound down with ice and blizzard attacks, Rydia felt more confident as she kept her attention off of the hound now, knowing her summon would protect her if the hound for some odd reason decided to get up and try it’s luck at attacking her or Edge again. The hound seemed down and out and the square was clear of any other monsters. Rydia turned around in a circle slowly looking around just to make sure she was correct as no other threats in the area. It seemed like she and Edge were the only ones in town now that the hound ran everyone off practically foaming at the mouth wanting to make someone into a fine dinner. All was clear, that was a good thing, no more monsters to deal with. Now, Rydia could focus on more important things.
Looking over at her icy summon, Shiva, Rydia smiled slightly and nodded before waving briefly at the beautiful summon. “You’re free to go.” She chimed before Shiva disappeared, waiting to be called upon by the Summoner of Mist once more for assistance. Once that was taken care of, Rydia shifted her attention to Edge, placing one hand on her hip, her somewhat sarcastic attitude was about to shine…well maybe not so much sarcasm and snarky-ness as it was harmless flirting? Or maybe it was just being sarcastic and snarky, whatever it was, it felt better than focusing on a battle or wondering if you were going to get bitten by some sort of fire hound. Walking over and extending a hand and helping Edge to her feet, Rydia simply rolled her eyes at his first statement, a small smile still on her face. “Guess there’s a first time for everything, or…maybe I just had nothing to say awhile back?” She said raising an eyebrow and placing both of her hands on her hips and tilting her head to the side a bit. That of course was a false remark, back when she, Cecil, Rosa, and everyone else had gone on their journey, Edge had been a good help to them…but she never did thank him, there were more important things to focus on back then.
Frowning slightly now, Rydia looked at Edge’s wrist and shook her head slightly. She was a mage yes, but ever since she left the Feymarch the first time, it seemed that her white magic abilities had ceased…but ever since their journey she had went out and tried to pick up a few white magic skills once more to sort of…make her more useful than what she really was. Although summons and destructive magic were helpful…healing those who were hurt really did come in handy, like now. Maybe she could conjure up a little bit of cure to help Edge out, after she was done talking of course. Shifting her weight to her right, she then shook her head. “I wouldn’t push your luck on that one…but I’m sure you could try and argue it. Though your argument would be invalid.” She said now with a more cheery smile, actually relieved that he was talking to her this time around! Had he ignored her this time…well, an angry Rydia wasn’t pretty…so it was just good that they were talking.
Losing her sort of cheery attitude for a moment, she then frowned again and placed a hand under her chin, looking back at Edge’s wrist. “Are you okay? I mean…took quite a hit.” Waving her hand slightly over his wrist, a tiny burst of green light emerged and was sent to heal his wrist, it was the least she could do, after all…had he not stepped in to help deal with the hound, then she might’ve taken some worse hits and that little girl whom she was protecting at the time. “Of all the ways to meet again, hm?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 872 Muse: Goodish Tagged: Edge Wearing: Normal Listening To: The T.V.? Edge watched quietly as the summoner spoke with her summon, Shiva, and the latter simply disappeared. He supposed he would never get used to the whole summoning thing, but in a good way. It kind of amazed him, and Edge wasn't all that easily amazed. After Shiva, one of the beautiful creatures he'd had the opportunity to fight with today, had taken her leave, Edge’s attention turned fully to the remaining beautiful creature who had helped him to his feet. ”As I recall, you had plenty to say whenever there was a need to deflate me.” The edges of his mouth curled up in amusement, remembering a few times especially that she’d managed to shut him up and get him to listen. Not even Cecil could manage to pull that off, and Edge had the utmost respect for the current foreign king. ”Or was that your own personal way of seducing me? I can never tell with you,” he added, with the slightest shrug. He hoped he would someday figure out the summoner standing for him, but he doubted today would be that day of enlightenment.
Seeing that Rydia had noticed his bum wrist, Edge dropped it to his side, deciding that as it dangled there that it would have been a great relief if it just fell off and dropped on the ground beside him. When it came to injuries like this, Edge developed something of a double standard. On the one hand, he liked to be the focus of attention, though not as much now that he was king and he nearly had more attention than he wanted. On the other hand (likely the painful one), Edge didn’t like anyone to bother tending to him when he was ill or hurt. Now, that rule was typically thrown out the window when one of the aforementioned attractive nurses happened to be tending to him. Rydia, as amazing of a nurse as she might have been, didn’t need to bother herself with teeny tiny injuries like Edge’s wrist on her first visit to Eblan. Edge could practically hear his mother shaking her head in amusement at his pride, saying how badly he needed someone around who could keep him from killing himself when she was gone.
So Edge kept the attention off his wrist for the time being by keeping up the banter from his side of the conversation. He knew he wouldn’t get anywhere trying to convince Rydia that she had ignored him, so he tried another tactic completely. ”I had a perfectly good reason for ignoring you,” he assured her, folding his arms over his chest matter-of-factly. If she didn’t either bust out laughing or slap him after his next comment, Edge would know he had her right where he wanted her. And no, he was not getting his hopes up. With a thoughtful look, he continued,”You were obviously trying to tempt me, and I couldn’t afford to be tempted just yet. I had a kingdom to rebuild, after all.” He straightened his shoulders, obviously proving that he’d taken the moral high ground during the wedding. ”But I’m happy to say I can make up for it now that you’re here in Eblan. The new and improved Eblan, at that.” Edge finally broke into a wide smile. Of course, standing here in the middle of the market district, as the citizens slowly began emerging from their homes and businesses, didn’t seem like the right situation to hold such a conversation. He hadn’t even invited her to the palace just yet.
Holding his tongue about that, Edge noticed her looking to his wrist again. ”It’s fine. Probably just….” He held out the thought as Rydia moved her hand over his and he felt that familiar sensation of parts mending that he couldn’t see with his own eyes, ”….sprained.” As the glow dissipated, Edge looked up from his wrist back into Rydia’s face, not having to vocalize his thanks. It was projected from his eyes. Flexing the wrist a couple of times and surveying the damage to the square as she changed the subject, Edge nodded. ”You’ve been missing out on the party until today. All these monsters really know how to liven up the city.” He might as well laugh as cry about it. ”What’s the occasion, anyway?” he asked, turning back to the green-haired foreigner. ”Decided you couldn’t go any longer without seeing me?”

[/IMG] Shaking her head and placing her hands on her hips, Rydia was just amused by almost anything Edge said to her, it was either silly, stupid, or a combination of both. "Well then I guess there is a first time for everything." She smiled as her tone was a bit sarcastic, but that was just how she was. Making comments to, as he phrased it, deflate him, while she was normally very nice and optimistic, that was just their relationship. A few comments here, a sarcastic remark there, it was unique! "Never know with me? Well, then I might as well keep it a secret, you may never know." Rydia then began to notice Edge's wrist and took concern over it, though her face may not have shown it, she did feel as if she should try to do something to help him out, no matter how minor the injury was. It was the least she could do, after all he had superb timing when getting the flame hound's attention away from herself and the small girl she had been standing in front of, she certainly owed him for that.
People had started to emerge from wherever it was they were hiding, the flame hound was dead and no longer causing trouble. Eyes seemed glued on the two in the square, probably because the King of Eblan was out and had just saved their town…or because there was some weird green chick who could summon creatures to help her out, that certainly wasn't something you saw every day, but whatever, for Rydia, it was normal. Still keeping her hands on her hips, she shifted her weight to her left leg and raised an eyebrow as Edge began to speak once again. Oh of course he would have a good excuse for ignoring her, she had to give him props, using another tactic to get around it instead of trying to plop it all on her, he wouldn't have gotten far that was for sure. A smile and a laugh was twitching at her lips but she held it back for a few moments. "Oh, is that so?" she said feeling rather confident whatever it was…would be something she would expect from him. Something silly, or stupid…or a combination of both.
Holding back a laugh wasn't easy, especially at statements like these. Placing one of her hands over her mouth a bit as she obviously snickered silently, keeping those huge gasping breaths she wanted to use for laughter on the inside, she'd have her chance to laugh later…if the time allowed it. "Right right, that sounds like a good reason, that is…if I had 1) been trying to tempt you and 2) I don't have a second statement." She grinned before turning in a complete circle, looking at the progress this place had made since Edge took the throne, as some may say he wasn't fit to be a King, just by his personality or anything, secretly deep down…like way way deep down…Rydia figured he'd be great at the job, and it seemed he was just by looking at how well ran this place was, you couldn't judge just by a small attack of a simple flame hound, those types of things happened everywhere…weird things happened all over these days, which…brought Rydia to a thought in her own mind, something she had actually come to see Edge about, rather than just to catch up, it was important.
"Not anymore." Rydia simply commented after casting her healing magic to repair Edge's wrist, it was a good thing she could pick up magic easily, she was already a experienced black mage and had once been able to conjure up a few white magic spells, but now she was beginning to get really good at it, it was very convenient. Glancing back at the fallen flame hound, Rydia smirked a bit and shifted around once more, her arms folding across her chest now. "I see that, itreminds me of the good old days, as for my appearing here, I guess you could say I kind of missed you, but there also Is something I wanted to ask you about, but…perhaps it's not a topic that should be discussed in front of all these people? It's…kind of important." Her face fell then a bit from the smirky smile it had been to more of a serious blank look, which meant business, serious business. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 859 Muse: Pretty good Tagged: Edge Wearing: Normal Greeny stuff Listening To: Nothing Notes: SO. ”I may just have to take that as a challenge. Ninja, remember? We pride ourselves on knowing all the secrets,” Edge responded to the summoner, with a confident grin. Most of the women in his life these days he could read like a book. First, there were the noblewomen, who had all been set upon him by the rich patriarchs of their families in order to attain a stake in the Geraldine line. They all had as much book learning as any woman could ever want, but in Edge’s experience, they were all dumber than dirt. Of course, women composed a solid portion of Eblan’s military, as they typically made outstanding practitioners of ninjutsu. Most of them, however, were more married to their work or attached to some of their fellow warriors. And finally, the women who were genuinely a joy to be around were apparently of too “low birth” for Edge to associate with them without an advisor or noble breathing down his neck or shoving another one of the annoying or boring women into his face. Obviously, that didn’t stop Edge, but it sure managed to keep him unsettled…and led to his mind wandering back to a certain summoner with many of the best qualities and few, if any, of the flaws possessed by the women mentioned. And the sad part that she would never be the type to throw herself at his feet, though he suspected she appreciated him more than she let on. That, and people telling him to forget about her, had been what had and would always make Rydia a challenge.
Casting a glance over his shoulder to the hound, which was being inspected at a safe distance by a number of children and a few adults, as well, Edge supposed there was no need to give any warnings. The beast was down for the count. Besides, a small number of ninja had arrived in the area (only Edge noticed them) thanks to the ruckus and would keep an eye on things. At ease about the situation and glad no one needed him at the moment, Edge’s gaze quickly returned to Rydia, who was, as expected by his last comment, laughing quietly. Ahh, no blushing. Too bad, he thought he might have gotten her a little bit there. He laughed a little himself as she presented her counter-argument. ”Your mouth says one thing…” Edge glanced down at her outfit, shrugging a bit. ”…but the outfit disagrees. And that is definitely not a complaint from me, just so you know.” Needless to say, he’d always been fond of the whole mage sort of outfit. They were always very…boobs. Rydia’s own spin on the same outfit wasn’t any different.
…Okay, he could look back up at her now. ”Ahhh, so you did miss me?”, Edge responded to her, contentedly. ”See…that wasn’t so hard to admit.” Though wanting to feed his ego continue on with the subject of her missing him, Edge tempered off the charm ever so slightly for a moment as she went onto explain she had something of importance to discuss with him. Nodding to her, Edge gave a quick glance at the vicinity, then took a step towards her, placing his hands on her arms. ”Surprisingly, this isn’t what it seems like. Honest,” he assured, stepping shoulder-to-shoulder with her. ”But you might want to close your eyes and hold on.” Whipping his cape forward as he mumbled a few words in an older language, Edge took his own advice and squeezed his eyes closed as a sharp light sprung up and engulfed them. A moment later and he felt as if he were being placed down onto the ground. As he dropped the cape and opened his eyes, Edge glanced to the area around him. Perfect! He’d ended up right where he wanted to – just on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by trees and lots of…well, nothing much else, really. Just nature.
He rubbed Rydia’s shoulder a bit to let her know that the trick was over, asking, ”How’s this do for a little privacy?”, and beaming at his success. Giving her all the time she needed to be amazed (but in no hurry to pry himself off of her), he wondered if any advisers would have a panic attack once his ninja told them that their king had disappeared with a strange woman. Oh well, they could spend their time worrying – Edge would only be gone for a while…he supposed. Unless he could turn this into a romantic trip through the woods…
With the assumption that he wouldn’t get anywhere with Rydia until he’d heard what was on her mind, he spoke again. ”What did you want to talk about?”

[/IMG] Raising an eyebrow with her arms folded, Rydia had a smile on the side of her lips as she gazed at Edge. Oh he was so full of it, all the time! "Well good luck, because my secrets are always hard to unravel." She said confidently as she stood tall and proud with whatever comment she said, of course she wasn't going to start babbling anything to Edge now, it was after all a challenge. Why make it easy on him? Whatever, back to getting on task! There was a good reason for Rydia traveling here, not just to see Edge (as much as that would boost his ego to admit it) but not every visit was all smiles and sunshine. Luckily for that hound it had proved to be of good use. Had it not come along, Rydia might've spent hours trying to track down the ninja, and that would not have made her happy having to trail across this town for hours and coming up with nothing, in fact, it probably would have made her cranky and unbearable…but then again, the lucky hound had made things easier…kind of.
The town seemed to be emerging once more into the square and going about their day as if nothing had happened, good for them. Maybe now people would stop staring at the king and the green foreigner and just go about their business eh? At some point Rydia almost wanted to just stare right back at the people, seeing if they would notice their rude behavior, but she stopped herself and simply kept her attention on Edge. Then of course comments about her outfit. Shaking her head slightly, how she wanted to press her palm to her forehead and sigh, but once again, she just smiled and played around with it. She knew her outfit was a bit on the revealing side, but it was a dress! She was a summoner! It didn't bother her if people looked at her differently or admiringly, she was just Rydia, no changing that. "Of course you wouldn't complain." She started as she lifted one of her arms slightly and began playing with her sleeve, adjusting it a bit before staring back at Edge, the same smirky expression she had a lot of the time. "The women here don't dress half as nice as I do." Of course she was using the term nice very loosely, though it sounded better than saying revealing.
"Yeah yeah, don't let it go to your head, Edge." She said with a small sincere smile this time around before shrugging and shaking her head a bit. "Fine, I did miss you, and see right there I was being sincere about it." Proud of herself, yep, that's what she was! But, the joking tone needed to stop, she needed to speak to him about those swirling masses she had seen both just on her way to Eblan, and right outside of town. They seemed to be popping up everywhere these days and well..someone needed to know. Edge was a king, and as a king, he should know of these types of things – and it gave her an excuse to come here of course – but she was just doing a good deed, warning him about these…whatever they were. It seemed her words had gotten through to Edge, and now they were going to get a bit of privacy…though Rydia didn't expect this. Taking his advice, Rydia shut her eyes tightly and just waited, she wasn't sure what to wait for but she assumed something would tell her that they were…somewhere else that wasn't in town. Feeling a little lifted then drifting to the ground, she assumed that was the sign she had been waiting for, but yet she kept her eyes shut tight and waited for him to say something.
Feeling a slight shiver run down her spine, she opened one eye carefully and looked around. Completely different scenery, and Rydia had to admit…that right there…this ninja traveling thing, was impressive. Turning her head slowly and opening the other eye just as cautiously, she then blinked a few times, not worrying about how close Edge was to her at this point in time, she was just still too amazed. That's when she stepped away a bit and turned in a complete circle. "Wow….just….wow." she muttered quietly under her breath before turning back and folding her arms across her chest. How to explain this without sounding like a complete nut job? "Have you heard anything from anyone about…weird swirling masses? Now please, don't think of me crazier than normal or anything…just hear me out okay?" She asked tilting her head to the side a bit, speaking in a true and honest tone as she sighed heavily and began to backtrack in her mind, everything she had seen or heard. "Back in Mist, destruction or not…there have been some things going on. Weird portal things have been popping up…and I noticed a few on m way here. Out of them came these large rough looking creatures that wailed and could produce magic-" she was probably getting too far ahead of herself and just stopped. Not wanting to start tripping over her words so to speak, she trailed off and got back on topic rather than worrying about the monsters. "…I think they could be dangerous, I've avoided them so far, but we can't be too sure. Do you…know anything about this?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 1041 Muse: Pretty dang good! Edge could not contain himself any longer, and unravel gave him the proper opportunity to unleash his first proper pass at Rydia. To serve as her official welcome to Eblan, of course. He had only been warming up for his big finish. Nodding to her robes, a mischief flared up in Edge's eyes. "'Unraveling your secrets' happens to be exactly what I had in mind," he said, somewhat quietly, with the cockiest grin that had crossed his face in a while. Yes, Edge would say the line was his best in quite a while, though even his best lines didn't quite seem to achieve Rydia-quality these days. A shame. Oh well, no one could blame him for the effort. Well...no one aside from Rydia. He prepared to duck for the upcoming slap, just to be safe. Ducking wouldn't actually work if she opted for a spell instead, but Edge felt confident that she wouldn't go quite that far. ...He hoped.
He opted to keep the lines about her outfit to a minimum for the rest of the conversation, lest Rydia decide that she should go with a more conservative outfit in the future. He certainly had no argument that she dressed more nicely than the local females. Then again, the locals had reason and practicality on their sides, being either ninja or townsfolk who needed to protect themselves from the sands of the nearby desert. Edge wasn't so convinced of the practicality of the typical feminine mage robe, but who needed practicality when there was so much skin to be seen?
Not Edge.
But, yes, Edge knew by the tone in Rydia's voice that there was business to take care of. Still a king, if an unmarried king. With them both in the little oasis outside of the front of the city, Edge was of the opinion that they could express how much they had missed each other later in the day so long as he could keep his advisers from rushing into his room every ten minutes or so, a challenge that rivaled even Rydia herself.
Stepping up behind Rydia as she took in her new surroundings, Edge opted to explain the place a bit. For the most part, Eblan stuffed more shoes full of sand than it provided shelter from the sun. "This oasis is actually a pretty well-kept secret. Just well-hidden enough by the city walls that travelers can't see it. Only those who know where it is actually come here." Folding his arms across his chest, he looked to the trees, remembering games of hide and seek he had played with his father and some of the ninja trainees. Ninja hide and seek. Yep, they could pass a lot of time with that game. Edge remembered bringing quite a few young women out here from time to time as well. Best not to mention that to Rydia and spoil the moment. "My father told me he brought my mother out here before they were married," he commented quietly, pulling a powdery leaf off of one of the nearby plants. He rubbed it in his hands a moment before letting out a chuckle. "He always did wonder if she fell more in love with this place or with him."
Still toying uselessly with the leaf, Edge propped himself up against one of the trees, putting his listening cap on and giving Rydia chance to finally explain what she was so concerned about and likely looking as thoughtful as a king for the first time since laying eyes on the green-locked summoner. He wondered somewhat why Rydia had come to him with a question about something that sounded magical in nature, but Eblan did have plenty of resources, with the library and all. Regardless of these things, Edge preferred figuring things out for himself. Rubbing at his chin a bit as he mulled over Rydia's words, Edge started fitting together a couple of puzzle pieces about these "weird swirling masses" she spoke of.
"I can't say I actually know what you're talking about, but...the creatures were coming out of the...uh, portals?", Edge asked rhetorically, quoting one of the words she had used to describe her swirling masses. It wasn't too much of a stretch for him to believe what she was saying, because he'd seen far too many crazy things over the past year for a bunch of swirling masses to be a surprise and Rydia had never tended to exaggerate. "That could explain why all these monsters have been haggling Eblan."
Though Edge stood there thinking for another few seconds, he'd already made his mind up about what to do next. Naturally, he assumed Rydia would go along with it. Anything she knew to be dangerous she'd probably agree to without argument anyway. "Alright then," Edge said as he started to pull his mask back over his mouth and walk past the summoner with some purpose in his step, "let's go find one of these swirling masses of yours. We still have some daylight to work with. I'm sure you'll want to come along, unless you finally agree that the kids should stay behind." He raised his eyebrows in the slightest mockery. Rydia certainly wasn't a mere girl anymore. "Think you can retrace your footsteps back to the last one you found?"

[/IMG] Tapping her foot ever so slightly, Rydia grinned, confident with herself and always wanting to be a step up from Edge with her comments. But…it seemed she only set him up for a pass that she had been expecting for awhile now, she'd started to get worried that Edge wasn't himself, flirtatious and what not. Her confident grin faltered some as she had a few chuckles escape her lips, more like a sarcastic kind of laugh, if that makes sense. "Well then, looks like you have a huge challenge to overcome, hm?" Rydia spoke as she lifted her hand to her cheek, pressing her fingertips against her jaw line as she tilted her head to the side slightly. "Like I said, it's not easy." She ended that off with a wide and very sincere grin. Oh it was so entertaining to talk with Edge, never a dull moment…or least, they were very rare. Shifting from one cheerful and almost playful conversation to the next, Rydia lost her cheery grin, her stance was more…well together and she spoke with a serious tone just to prove that this wasn't something to be taken lightly.
The new scenery, it looked so pretty as if it were made for a 'moment' to happen. But sadly, there was business to be taken care of, not to mention Rydia wasn't the type just to melt because of a scene change. Green eyes gazed from left to right, up and down, and just took everything in. It almost made her lose her train of thought regarding those portals. An easy distraction for her, it certainly didn't seem like Eblan to her. "It's…really pretty out here." She commented quietly before listening to Edge speak of his father and mother, a sweet comment, and even though she wasn't facing him, Rydia smiled slightly. This certainly did seem like the place for people to fall in love or develop feelings, all that kind of stuff. "It seems like your father picked the right place to take a girl." Turning around to face Edge once more, Rydia had her hands clasped together and a content look on her face. Already the initial topic of them even coming here was beginning to slip her mind, so best speak now before she truly got distracted and forgot all about it…not that she would really mind.
Explaining all of this…made Rydia feel like some sort of crazy person. Talking about these swirling masses and what not, keeping her eyes on the ground and just getting her words out, she hoped Edge didn't think she was making this up or anything. Why would she anyways? She wasn't the type of person to go around telling tall tales just for kicks and giggles, if this was really important, and it was, she'd tell it straight forward, no lies or exaggerations. Once she was done explaining briefly, she glanced up at Edge and waited. She waited to see if he'd believe her or not, and she hoped he would. Once he began to speak, Rydia let out a tiny sigh of relief. "The creatures coming out of those portals, if that’s what they are, don't seem like anything I've ever encountered. Magic casting, physically strong…it's alarming." She'd seen some of those creatures, their wailing was earsplitting, their abilities, she didn't wait around to experience them for herself.
Rydia kept her eyes on Edge as he seemed ready to go and find one of these swirling masses, she was extremely happy that he believed her words and actually wanted to look into all of it. …then he said it. Her smile faded dramatically to an irritated frown which she tried to curl upwards into a bitter smile. Kid. Placing her hands on her hips and shifting her weight from one foot to the other, Rydia cocked an eyebrow. "A Kid you say? Thanks for that you pedo-bear." she smirked a bit as her more sarcastic smile returned to her face before nodding her head. Of course she could show him the way! Then again, it might've been a little bit easier to find the portal if she…knew which way was which. Not wanting to ask and just go off of a good lucky guess, Rydia started forward with a few steps before stopping, turning more to her right and starting again before stopping again. Placing a hand to her chin she thought, which way did she want, or rather, need to go? Frowning she turned back to Edge and sighed. "Okay so…It might help if I knew exactly where we were, in relations to the city. If it helps any, it was on the north western side of Eblan, as if you were going towards the Tower of Babil." She shrugged, not being much help for the time being.
From there, things should go pretty smooth, if the portal was still there of course. Rydia hoped it would be, she was rather curious as to what was on the other side, but then again she didn't want to go at it alone, so of course…why not take Edge? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 993 Muse: Meh, pretty good. "I'll find a way," Edge assured the summoner, "I always have. Your secrets are as good as mine already." Edge supposed his words would have been a nice set-up for some slightly disturbed cackling, but the way he'd spoken them, they were more matter-of-fact than anything else. Naturally, Edge believed with a little bit of hard work he had the ability to accomplish whatever he wished. Even unraveling secrets of a Mist summoner whom he barely knew outside of the life-or-death experiences they had encountered and..well, the bits and pieces about her strange past he'd picked up from her, and at times from Cecil, Rosa, or even Kain. It never occurred to him to think that they hadn't really had the time to just know each other. His brilliance had caused him to miss a perfect opportunity for just that at the wedding. Nice work, Edge.
Regardless of his stupidity at the wedding, Edge knew that he'd pulled the right move bringing them here, to the oasis. His dad might have been proud of this. Besides, Edge suspected his parents would both have approved of his determined pursuit (could he call it pursuit if he hadn't trailed along behind her yet?) of the green-haired Mist summoner. Who wouldn't approve of Rydia? "I did learn more from him than just ninjutsu," Edge finally, spoke, smirking a bit. "You don't think I was born this charming, do you?" His father had actually tolerated Edge's...women-loving ways because he had been forced to admit he wasn't all that different back when he was a prince with no wife. He hadn't waited until he was twenty-six to actually fall for a woman though. But Edge still had his good looks, no problem.
Not that they would do him any good against magic-casting, physically imposing monsters. Those were the monsters Edge liked the least, especially when they were popping out through magical masses without rhyme or reason. Scrunching his eyebrows in thought, Edge tried to figure out just exactly what they could be dealing with, but nothing would come immediately to mind. After all, if Rydia knew what these monsters were, she could just call them by name, and she had no reason to have any less understanding of the various monsters on this wide world than he did.
Despite his concern, Edge couldn't help but let out a loud, heavy laugh at the pedo-bear comment. Ah, it felt good to get a heavy laugh out after all this...kinging. Lately, all of the issues arising with these monsters kept him feeling constantly stressed. Plus, Edge had, due to Eblan's wariness of Baron, been playing awkward envoy tag with Cecil and Rosa - the only real interaction he'd had with anyone he could call friend. Having someone around to just talk with was something he'd needed ever since Cecil and Rosa's wedding...and if he'd been allowed to pick one person to visit him to just chat with, Edge would have picked Rydia every time. Ha to his advisers who claimed he was chasing a dream! Not only had Rydia always been much more than a dream, but she had come here on her own account. No chasing involved!
"Okay, okay...so you win this round. Barely," he ultimately admitted once he'd gotten the laughter out of his system. "But honestly, aren't you technically, like, nine years old? I remember someone mentioning...what, accelerated growth in the Feymarch? I can't help the facts." Okay, so maybe 'accelerated growth' wasn't quite the right term, but he knew she had apparently grown to be ten years older or so while she was there, over the course of a few months real-time. Secretly, Edge was glad that Cecil's little group of heroes hadn't found him until after Rydia's change. Knowing her beforehand would have been....awkward.
He listened to Rydia's directions, still walking but turning off towards a different set of trees as he did so. “Then we need to head...north. We’re basically standing off the southwest corner of the city,” Edge reported, pushing some of the foliage out of the way and revealing the sandy desert ahead that looked like a completely different world from the oasis. He still thought that whichever ancestor had come up with the idea to build a city in the middle of a desert was out of his or her mind. Not to say Edge hadn’t grown up to appreciate the desert, but a human being could only deal with a few billion grains of sand at one time. Obviously Eblan wasn’t a big tourist attraction. How would they even attract people? Come see the ninja of Eblan! Just take a right at the three hundredth sand dune, you can’t miss it!
He stepped aside to let her lead the way, but kept close unless one of the masses popped up and spat a monster out at them. That was Edge's excuse, at least. Remembering he'd lost a katana to the flame hound's face, Edge shifted the empty sheath around his back to get it out of the way. Opting that they shouldn't walk to this portal in complete silence, Edge opened his mouth to speak, hesitated, and then turned to Rydia. "How are things at home?"

With a bitter smile, Rydia gazed at Edge, her eyes slightly narrowed as her arms folded across her chest. Was this amusing? Slightly. "Of course you will." She said in a tone that had a hint of sarcasm to it, normal for her when dealing with Edge anyways, but that's just the way things went. Still wishing him good luck with her secrets mentally, she smirked a bit before drawing her attention away from the ninja king and just went on glancing around every so often, wanting to get more to her topic than just sit around and chat as if nothing were brewing around here. She knew these portals weren't safe, by the looks of them and the things that came out of them, of that she was sure. The oasis had amazed her truly, though she'd never really admit anything like that, maybe a 'oh this is nice' or something like that if she really felt like it, but for now she simply just looked around, wanting to just take a few moments and stare at its elegance and beauty. Sometimes nature could just be so pretty, it was unreal. She had to compliment the place, he'd done a good job picking this place, props to him for that.
Glancing over at Edge, Rydia raised an eyebrow. Charming eh? That was the set up for SO many comments she could make, but deciding against all of them, she simply smiled a little bit and shrugged her shoulders. She just couldn't help herself, she needed to say something, smirk, laugh, something! Smirking a tiny bit – again – she lifted a hand towards her face and tapped her fingers against the side of her jaw line, still looking as friendly and king as she could with a smirk on her face. "Charming, that's really cute. Skip a few lessons from your old man did you?" she said then as her expression twisted from pretty summoner lady to sarcastic woman with a comment for everything – an almost mischievous look. Poking fun at Edge was like a second language to her by now, of course they hadn't spent forever together or anything. Their journey with Cecil and Rosa was about it, but still, she'd developed the sarcastic attitude fairly well in such a short amount of time, always around to deflate Edge when the time called for it. She quite enjoyed it, but decided to lay off for a bit. He was trying, and props to him for that.
Now, on topic. Rydia dropped her mischievous look for a more serious and sincere one as she explained her story, the portals, and the monsters coming out of them lately. She was one hundred percent certain and serious about these. She figured that telling someone with power was the best thing to do, and after telling Edge and conversing with him about them, warning him that they were becoming more prominent these days, she'd head to Baron and seek out Cecil and Rosa to inform them of what she knew. These portals, vortexes, swirling masses, or whatever you wanted to call them could pose a real threat if they weren't monitored carefully. She'd watched a few of them pop up in Mist while she was helping rebuild the town still, and she wasn't the least bit suspicious about them at first, but then people began to disappear, then a red flag was sent up in her mind. She'd seen a lot of things in her days – all like…8 years of her days – and this wasn't anything like she'd seen before. That was the whole purpose for her even being here! Not just to chat, that was like 10% of her coming here.
Smiling confidently, Rydia placed her hands on her hips, almost as if she were posing for victory. "A win is a win. And I plan on winning again." But the fact Edge pointed out was true. She was still chronologically young, but the physical appearance said otherwise. Her smile diminished some before she dropped her hands from her hips and they just hung there at her sides. "Yeah, something like that. The Feymarch was a…interesting time. I went from being a little kid to an adult. I guess it did help, kids aren't all that helpful in the face of danger." She shrugged a bit before folding her arms now, she just couldn't stand still and be comfortable. "My comment still stands though." Grinning again, she then was thankful that they would get going towards this portal on the outside of Eblan. It'd take awhile to get there, she knew that they were pretty far away as it was, crossing this place wasn't exactly going to be her favorite thing. Walking in these heals all over the place wasn't comfortable all the time. She'd learn to deal though, always had, always will.
Rydia nodded and moved a bit as Edge spoke and pushed some of the foliage away, revealing the less appealing desert. It was almost to the point where Rydia just wanted to say something like 'Can't we just stay here?' Or just sit on the ground and pull a real childish move. That would not help her any though in the battle with Edge regarding her being a kid still, though that was more for fun than anything. "Alright." She spoke quietly before stepping out of the Oasis into a completely new environment. The sandy desert probably wouldn't be as bad as she thought…or maybe it would be. She just hoped that it wouldn't take nearly as long as she thought it would, if they walked fast enough. Leading the way and heading North, Rydia then turned her head a bit to see Edge as he spoke. Conversation, yeah! That'd pass the time for sure! "Things are going okay. Mist isn't exactly rebuilt yet, but someday it'll return to its former glory, hopefully." She shrugged, thinking that after this, before traveling to Baron, maybe she'd stop and visit home and say a few words to her mother buried there. That was the respectable thing to do since she hadn't done that in quite some time. "What about you Mr. King of Eblan? How's that whole thing going on? Eblan isn't up in flames so I assume you're doing a good job." She smiled sincerely, not sarcastically this time, hoping he'd accept that as a compliment and not an attempt at her poking anymore fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 1207 Muse: Great!
