As he brought his cell phone down from his ear, Hope Estheim's excitement was probably obvious for a good ten seconds while he jogged back over to the front door of the place he'd been staying in since settling in on Gran Pulse. He calmed himself down to a happy grin, though, once he passed a couple of his new neighbors, who giggled at him as he passed. Normally he would have been at least a little bit embarrassed, but right now, he didn't care. Vanille was back! And that meant Fang was back, which could mean Raines was back, which could mean - okay, maybe he was getting a little carried away. But he'd been right! He knew Fang and Vanille would find a way back one way or another. As he shuffled inside, he found himself hoping a few other people would get a hold of that same map.
"Dad! You around!?" The silence spoke up and said no as Hope listened in. Hope knew he wouldn't be at this time of day unless he'd come in to pick something up or bring lunch, but it was worth checking anyway. That's mostly the world Hope had been in for a few short weeks now - after the military had gotten everything settled out, Hope hadn't seen much of the other l'Cie. But having gotten two calls, one from Vanille and one from Light, in quick succession, he was just as ready as he could be to catch up with his new family. He didn't even know where Vanille had gotten the phone, and he'd forgotten to ask her. He figured he could when she showed up here. She said she was coming before she even knew where he was staying, so Hope figured if she found her way here he'd have plenty of chances to ask her whatever he wanted to.
Then it hit him, just as he entered the kitchen to grab a soda. Vanille was coming here to see him. That...what did that mean? Did he need to get ready or something? He was clean and everything....but did he need to do anything special? Forgetting about the soda as soon as he opened the door to the fridge, he wandered to the kitchen and looked at himself in the mirror, looking about the same as always. That was fine, right? Would Vanille even care? She probably just wanted to talk his ear off. Not that he didn't want her to or anything....but he figured she wouldn't care if he was covered in Pulse's dirt or not, so after staring at himself a second and scratching at his neck, he finally turned away from the mirror and trotted back towards the kitchen, bumping his fists together (unfortunately, a lot like Snow would) as he wondered when she'd show up.
He wandered outside again, his hand moving to his phone. Light would maybe come too if he called her. And maybe even Snow and Sazh plus Dajh if they weren't busy. But...Hope remembered quite a few conversations with just him and Vanille that made him shake his head and smirk. He always seemed to get the wrong idea about them - but with the way Vanille talked, that was a pretty easy thing to do. And even if Light had taught him how to fight and survive, Vanille had taught him how to keep going before that. She'd believed he could live up to his name maybe more than anyone. So getting the chance to see her again after she was supposed to be gone for good all over again.....that was a pretty nice treat, if you asked him.
So he tucked his phone away and patrolled up and down the street, hoping he could reel her in if she couldn't find his house or anything. Tagged - Vanille, of course Words - .....I forgot to check. About seven hundred? Muse - EPIC. Probably could have made this a book but there was no point to adding too much more. >> Place - Some plain ol' streetway in Oerba's busier areas and the place Hope's staying. Outfit - Something like he'd usually wear, just without the scarf (I really hated that thing, can't you tell?) and other accessories. Notes - ..... .... ...... Nope. Pretty straightforward.

Walking here, walking there, Vanille was starting to feel like a messenger girl. She was called back and forth at times to try and find people, to hunt them down and figure out where they were. Thank the lord for cell phones, it had come in use! It was great what things you could find on crashed PSICOM vessels. Random communication devices? Yes! A win! And it would certainly help her locate some of her friends. She’d already gotten a hold of Snow and Serah. She’d already spoken with Fang and Lightning, so all that left was…Hope and Sazh! Really, in all honestly, Nille was making good progress by now with trying to find the others ever since her and Fang awoke again. It would be nice to have the whole entire gang back together…no, the entire family. That’s what they were, maybe not related by blood or anything, but still, a family none the less.
Vanille happily clutched her cell phone as she wandered back towards the village of Oerba. Her home town, she loved that place, even if it wasn’t in the best shape it was still home sweet home. Smiling as she walked along the crystal sand towards the town. She had called Hope, saying she would come find him, starting here was the best place! She had received a call back but had missed it, luckily he left a message and thankfully he was in Oerba! It was fantastic and she couldn’t wait to see him! Maybe he knew where Sazh and his son Dajh were? It’d be nice to see them while she was in town for awhile before running off to find someone else again. Finally, when the sand turned to a stone path, Vanille stopped and placed the phone she had been gripping tightly back in a pouch by her bear sash that was tied around her waist. How convenient. Now it was mission time! Vanille had to search around Oerba, through all the standing homes to try and find Hope!
Strides began to turn into skips as Vanille wandered down through the town, looking around the different homes nearby for the silver haired boy she had tried to keep cheerful most of their time together. Stopping a bit and shielding her eyes from the sun, Vanille looked around, twisting in a circle before something caught her eyes. Looking in the distance she squinted her eyes to see through the glare of the sun beating down on the stone pavement. She watched someone walking, on the shorter side, especially due to the distance, and whoever it was seemed to resemble Hope. Maybe he had gone outside to wait for her? That was a nice thing to do, but Vanille wasn’t going to start jumping up and down until she was sure it actually was Hope. Resting her hand down at her side again, Vanille started walking, her arms swaying at her sides as she took rather quick steps to close the gap between her and the person she recognized as Hope Estheim. The closer she got, the more convinced she was that the person ahead was indeed Hope, it made her smile.
With the biggest smile she could conjure up, Vanille started waving her right hand around in the air, waving towards Hope before she cupped her hands around her mouth and shouted “HOPE!!!!!!!!!” with that followed a few giggles and another huge wave before moving once more. Now this time, she was running towards Hope, arms really swaying at her side with the occasional wave as she ran as well. The distance between the two was closing in rapidly, Vanille was getting over excited and was running at top speed. Knowing her, she was bound to trip or something with going so fast right now. She stumbled a bit, hitting the toe of her heal against the ground causing her to trip up a bit, but she easily gained back her balance before she practically ran into Hope…but she ran into him for a hug of course! “Hope! It’s so good to see you!” She said as she was hugging him tightly, hopefully not hugging the life out of him, she was just happy…if you couldn’t tell. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 797 Muse: Good! It felt good to be alive. To be able to run across Pulse and enjoy every bit of beauty it had to offer. Not only that, but there was her family. Fang and the others had formed a family, and she missed them the most. It was only a matter of time before they all got together again at the same time…and maybe caught up a bit after the chaos of settling down went away of course. At least seeing them one by one was good enough for now, Vanille had to deal with what she could get. It was good enough for her to see everyone one by one, but it would be even greater if everyone could get together sometime. Call it, a little family reunion. Although, Vanille knew very well that they had lives to live of their own, even if trouble was stirring up once again, she didn’t want to bother anyone who had things starting to go well for them. Like…Sazh, he had his son back. Snow and Serah were going to get married, and Hope….well he had his father, a family that needed to heal. Nille wasn’t going to ruin any of that for any of them. If push came to shove, Light, Fang, and herself would just deal with it all. What did they have to lose?
It was clear to see the smile on Vanille’s face as she ran directly towards Hope at full speed. There was no slowing down for her! She wanted to get over to him as quick as possible, so yes, he had better brace himself. A hug was a definite must right now. She was just too over excited to restrain all that happiness that seemed to be overflowing from her right now. That was what was so great about Vanille, no matter how tough the times may get, or how horrible things may seem, somehow she found the will power to put a smile on her face and try to keep everyone optimistic. With that being said, or well written whatever, Vanille launched herself at Hope and wrapped him up in a tight very Nille-like hug. “Are you kidding? It’s GREAT to see you!” She chimed happily with a couple of giggles after her words, as usual. Oh yes, great moods for Vanille certainly weren’t hard to come across.
Letting go and pulling herself back, Vanille had a smile beaming across her face as she looked at Hope. Folding her hands behind her back, she took a few aimless steps off to the side, thinking about his question. “Oh, for awhile now. Fang is back too you know.” She started before stopping her aimless steps and just crossing her ankles a bit. “Yeah, crazy I can believe that! Thing’s haven’t been all smiles and sunshine since we returned but hey! We’ve always made it through right?” Always looking on the bright side, that was her nature, even if she wasn’t exactly feeling the same way as the words she was spilling out.
It was then silence began to hit. Something Vanille wasn’t too fond of. She was a loud bubbly person with an overflowing personality to match, of course she’d want to talk! She needed to catch up with her friends and somehow get the word out that Barthandules was back. It would be shocking, almost horrifying news, but everyone needed to be informed on the evil that was lurking around Gran Pulse now. Especially the ex-l’cie, Barthandules probably wasn’t too forgiving especially since they ruined his plans for Cocoon’s destruction, they needed to be on full alert at this point in time. “Sure! Let’s go for a walk!” She said enthusiastically, almost wanting to pull on his arm and half drag him around while she babbled on and on about useless things before popping in the subject of Barthandules and new focuses. She contained herself though, just twisting a bit from side to side, waiting and then taking a few steps aimlessly in some direction. “Is there anything specific you wanted to talk about?” she asked first, she’d save the more important things for last. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 798 Muse: Great! Hope's expression brightened even more when he heard Fang was back too, not that he'd ever doubted it. Out of all the other members of the group, Fang had been the one Hope was never really sure about. He had admired her for a bunch of different reasons, but he just couldn't seem to feel quite as comfortable around her as the rest, even after she'd helped him with Alexander. He'd been right to be suspicious, maybe, with what happened when they reached Orphan, but with everything she'd done for them in the end, thinking that they'd lost her was just as tough to take as thinking he'd....they'd....lost Vanille. "That's great! Is she around here?" His best guess was no for right now, since he doubted she'd be that far away from Vanille if she was in the same area code. Maybe she was just taking care of something. "Maybe we can all finally meet up someplace sometime. Maybe even my dad will come......he did end up being a fugitive just like us, after all." He chucked. "I guess you can finally meet him."
"Thing’s haven’t been all smiles and sunshine since we returned but hey! We’ve always made it through right?”
Hope gave a firm nod. "Right." Compared to everything they'd been through as l'Cie, trying to get settled in on Pulse and having to fight away a few monsters every now and then was like tying your shoe. He didn't know what all Vanille and Fang had been dealing with since they arrived, but he figured that having to see your home filled with Cie'th and crystal dust one minute, then turned into a busy settlement the next wasn't the easiest thing to adjust to. But every one of them.....the two Pulsians especially.....knew how to adjust to pretty much anything. Hope figured that's why most of the people here looked to some of them for leadership. People even tried to get Hope's opinions on things every now and then...even if he didn't really know what he was talking about.
When she agreed to go for the walk, Hope wasn't sure if he should lead the way or not. Where would he lead, anyway? Outside of Oerba somewhere where they could talk without people around? Just through the streets? He was genuinely glad when she took a few steps off in one direction herself after the pause, watching that oddly swaying way she walked for about a moment too long. He found himself rubbing at his neck and taking a couple of steps to catch up.
"Well....not really. I just thought.." He rubbed his neck again, realizing he didn't really know what he should talk with Vanille about. Should he act like everything was the same since before she arrived, or would the whole crystalstasis thing make a difference? Now he was just overthinking things. "What do you think about Oerba? All the settlers mostly kept everything intact. Well....everything but a few leftover Cie'th and the dust. We just fixed everything with AMP and fixed up a few old, broken-down buildings."
"Did...you two have anywhere to stay?" It seemed like everyone had grabbed every place possible in order to settled in here. Hope didn't know exactly how long the two natives had been back, but he didn't think there'd been any open places to stay for a while now. "If not, I think we can hold another couple of people...my dad willing, at least." Words - 667 (whew -_-) Muse - Awesome sauceum. Notes - Not really, no. D:

Thinking back, Vanille didn’t remember exactly where Fang said she would be heading off to next…rather, she hadn’t really mentioned anything at all. Last time Nille saw her, she was with Lightning and they weren’t happy. Cid Raines had been resurrected as well, and Nille went from there to find Snow and the others to fill them in on what had happened. She had of course gotten word that they had gotten branded once again and were tied to a new focus, one they didn’t quite understand. And then another chilling thought. Galenth Dysley, or Barthandules, was back. Shuddering a bit to herself, Vanille made sure the smile on her face remained as she looked over at Hope once more. Shaking her head slightly, Vanille shrugged some. “Not that I know of, I haven’t seen her for awhile.” That was true, and the story behind it all would come later, once ‘catching up’ had started to come to an end, then Vanille would spill her story and inform Hope of the danger that seemed to be approaching.
“It would be great to see everyone again, all at the same time too.” It was a lovely thought, being able to see everyone again, like a reunion. It was something Vanille was looking forward to if they could manage to find a time and place that was suitable for everyone with their new busy schedules. “Oh that’s right! I haven’t met your dad yet! There’s something else to look forward to.” Nodding slightly, Vanille continued to smile as always, even if it wasn’t always real. But in this case she was happy and there was no hiding it. She had always liked Hope since the beginning, even when helping him try to talk to Snow about his mother and what not. She liked to be there for him, but when their paths split and he departed with Lightning and Vanille with Sazh, well…she worried about him. Hoping he would make it home to his dad, even if he believed his father didn’t care.
Walking and talking, that would be nice. Vanille could get a feel for the way Oerba now looked these days and she could talk with Hope for awhile. It was a ‘two birds with one stone’ type of ordeal. Of course, she had wandered off a bit first, not really having a specific place in mind to go. Just walking around and staring at the village. It did seem nice, different and less Pulse-like but still, nice. It was far from what Cocoon had been, but still, It was a step forward for the citizens and she truly was happy for them. “Hm? Oh it’s very nice! It’ll take some getting used to of course. But I’m glad things are moving forward for everybody.” Cheerfully, she half-skipped a few steps forward before turning around completely and staring at Hope, now her steps going backwards as she listened to him speak, her arms swaying at her sides.
No, Vanille and Fang really didn’t have a place to stay, but then again Pulse was their home. It didn’t matter where they slept or decided to stay, all of it was home to them. It was a very nice offer of Hope to make and it did make Vanille think a bit. It would be nice to have someplace to go if things really came down to it. “Oh you know Fang and I, pretty much make wherever we are a place to stay.” She smiled before spinning around and drifting forward again, this time with slower steps and more thoughts in her head rather than watching exactly where she was stepping. “Though it would be nice to have a place to stay when here.” She hesitated for a moment before one of her usual shocking gasps escaped her lips and she stared forward at a feathery animal up ahead towards the outskirts of town. Her smile seemed to double in size if that was even possible. She quickly turned around and grabbed Hope’s wrist and began to tug him along. “Come on! Let’s go check it out!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 798 Muse: Good! Tagged: Hope Wearing: Tribal Outfit Listening To: Nothing Notes: Yay for random Chocobo appearances!

Hope thought it was kind of out-of-the-ordinary that Vanille wouldn't know where she could find Fang, but he brushed it off. It wasn't like they were attached at the hip or anything. They probably each had their own business to deal with. He did have to wonder what Fang was up to, though. Maybe she just didn't like all the changes to Oerba. But he could only really guess.....and that wasn't really much use for anything. "Maybe she'll drop by sometime...it'd be nice to see her back again, too." Hopefully she wasn't in a bad mood if she did visit.... That was another thing Hope could never figure out about the dragoon. Whether or not he felt protected or scared to death around her.
Grinning about Vanille meeting his dad, Hope opened his mouth to speak again, but waited an embarrassed moment before he did, looking off at something that was suddenly interesting down the street. His eyes finally rested on the bottom of his shirt. "I've.....told him a lot about you. He'll probably be really happy....you know, to finally get a chance to talk to you." Vanille had been the first person to tell him he should try to connect with his dad again. Of course, at that point, Hope hated his dad, being a l'Cie, the Sanctum.....pretty much everything. When he finally got to Palumpolum and found out Vanille had been right, she hadn't even been there to see it. She might not've been completely responsible for him getting to his dad, but she was definitely responsible for making Hope not turn away before he got there.
He wasn't really sure if Vanille herself was that thrilled with all the Cocoon that was in Oerba now, but he didn't think he should ask her anymore about it. It was all necessity anyway, right? Just like she said about herself and Fang, sometimes people had to make a home out of whatever they had. Hope didn't know what was going on with Cocoon nowadays, since he knew people had been visiting it, but he did know that he kind of missed Palumpolum. But in Palumpolum he hadn't had Light or Snow or Sazh or any of the rest. He could make this place into a home just because he did have all those people around him now. And maybe Vanille, if she ever decided she needed a place to stay for a little while.
Hope had been thinking on this while they continued walking, staying silent as he trailed along beside the orange-haired Oerban. So he obviously didn't see the creature up ahead of them. Vanille's high-pitched gasping finally made him pull himself out of his thoughts and look up at her, but he didn't get a chance to see what she was so excited about until she had a grip on his wrist and started pulling. "Whoa! What...?" For a moment or two he thought something was wrong....until he saw the look on her face. So he just followed behind her for a few steps until he finally saw what she was excited about.
"Ohhhh." He said, the realization dawning on him. With a laugh, he picked up his pace so she could stop having to practically drag him along. It was about time something showed up that didn't want to eat everyone in the whole settlement. At least, Hope had never heard of a chocobo eating anyone. He figured they would be a lot less popular with people if he had. Hope had never really been around that many chocobos in his life, so he wasn't really that sure about them. They were animals, after all.
But that didn't mean he was gonna shy away from this one. Especially not with a woman nearby... Words - 700 Muse - Gewd. Notes - The ending's kinda meh, but he'll be more interesting once they're actually interacting with ze bird. XD

Vanille shrugged a bit and shook her head before crossing her arms. It would be nice to know where Fang was at, but in all honesty, she had absolutely no idea where the wild woman might be. It could be just about anywhere at this time, and going off to search for her would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack, not to mention it would take FOREVER to track her down. With Fang on the move, it was hard to keep up sometimes. Vanille knew that very well. “Oh I’m sure she’ll turn up sometime! After all, Oerba is our hometown.” All she could do was think positively. She knew sometime Fang would have to stop by Oerba, even if she didn’t like the way Oerba was beginning to look with all the new enhancements it was getting. Well at least it wasn’t completely run down right? That was a positive look on things! Fang would surely show up here sometime, Vanille was pretty sure about that one, hopefully Vanille herself was here when that happened. She wanted to know how her best friend was doing lately after all the chaos erupted…but just among a few individuals. It wasn’t a worldwide panic or anything…yet.
Thinking back, Vanille remembered the hatred Hope showed towards his father, but Vanille and Sazh both told him to go find his father, and it seemed to be a good thing they had pushed him into. Going with Lightning was worth it, traveling through Palumpolum and beginning to heal the rifts between Hope and his father. Smiling brightly, Vanille nodded some. “I’d be glad to meet him! That is, whenever he isn’t busy of course. I hope you didn’t say anything bad about me.” Of course she was only kidding, what bad things had there been to say about the cheerful girl? She lied, a lot. She dragged everyone into that whole mess, and she was originally from Gran Pulse…an enemy. Okay so there were a few bad things he could’ve said but Nille was pretty sure he wouldn’t have said anything bad about her! If so…well, hopefully it was at least the truth.
Glancing around the place, Vanille wasn’t used to all the changes, but they were somewhat nice. Sure it wasn’t run down like it had been, and it wasn’t all technical like Cocoon had been…but still, there was a good balance between the two. Personally, she was quite happy with the way things were going so far. The citizens were settling, PSICOM was making sure they were all safe, and families were getting back together. What more could someone want? Smiling still, Vanille had then caught gaze of the yellow bird ahead. She gasped and then tugged Hope along towards the chocobo with an even brighter look on her face. It was like a young kid walking into their first candy store, she was beaming from ear to ear. “They’re so pretty! I can’t believe one is all the way out here…perhaps…without the Cie’th the chocobos are coming back.” It was a nice thought, it reminded her of the days of Oerba’s former glory, her childhood, before the war of Transgression.
Letting go of Hope, Vanille then slowed her pace as she arrived at the chocobo which was simply standing there with its beak to its wing, itching at its feathers. Vanille giggled a little bit before reaching a hand up to the bird’s beak. It flinched some before ruffling its feathers and squawking a bit at her, Vanille simply took a step back and let it calm down for a moment. “It’s alright, I’m not going to hurt you.” She said before getting closer to the bird once again, petting its beak before it lowered its head to her shoulder and nudged her. “Oerba used to be abundant with these silly creatures. They were so fun to play with. Fang and I used to race them outside Oerba.” She laughed a little at the thought. They had joked about Fang always getting the good chocobos while Vanille got the lazy ones. Those were good days. Sighing a bit, Vanille then looked at Hope then the chocobo. “He won’t bite…” she smiled a bit before stroking the bird once more and glancing at Hope again. “I’m glad I got a hold of you, Hope. There are a few things we need to talk about.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 851 Muse: Great! Tagged: Hope Wearing: Tribal Outfit Listening To: Nothing Notes: Nada

"...I hope you didn’t say anything bad about me.”
Hope chuckled a little. "I don't think there's anything bad to say." He'd told his dad as much as he could about everyone - even the ones he'd already met in Palumpolum. And since Sazh was still around, his dad would've been able to meet him, too. Vanille was the only one his dad had never laid eyes on and, for a while, would've never been able to meet. Hope had told him most everything about her....maybe too much a few times. But always good things. Hope still thought it was pretty great that he could think back on a time in his life when he was a fugitive fighting for his life and come up with good memories. He wouldn't want to deal with fal'Cie or a Purge again, but...there were parts that were worth all the trouble. And the friends he'd gained were worth it, too.
Nodding a little at Vanille's comment about the Cie'th, he knew she was probably right. Chocobos weren't the only things that were coming back. NORA and the military had been fighting off all kinds of monsters once the Cie'th were cleared out. At least the monsters weren't people one time....and they couldn't fight almost as well as a l'Cie. "We only had a few big chocobos around Palumpolum....I think I saw one in a zoo once when I was little, but that's about it." He said as he was led along, both as a way to actually say something in response to Vanille and maybe partially an excuse not to be that comfortable around the bird. He'd faced down every kind of ugly monster here at some point, he figured, but that didn't mean he had to walk right up to a chocobo without a little bit of caution...
Once they reached the bird, Hope was almost disappointed to be out of Vanille's grip, and ended up standing a few feet away while she comforted the creature. The racing actually sounded pretty fun...Hope remembered seeing something about chocobo races on Cocoon. They looked pretty fast... Racing on Pulse was probably a lot more fun than Cocoon. And probably more dangerous, too. Maybe he'd race one sometime.
Just not right now.
Vanille apparently noticed Hope keeping a few feet between himself and the bird, and spoke up. Well, so much for trying to hide the fact that he didn't want his head pecked off. Too bad all chocobos couldn't stay the size of Sazh's. Hope took a few steps towards the bird, raising his hand to pat it on the other side of its neck. The bird looked down at Hope's hair with a little bit of curiosity, but after a couple of seconds of Hope staring back up at it with an awkward smile in the corner of his mouth, it seemed perfectly fine with being scratched by two different sets of hands. "He's just as easy to get along with as Sazh's chick.....you think he'd help me clean the house sometime?" He asked, with a grin. Chocobos were smart - that was something Hope definitely knew about them.
Turning back to Vanille, Hope raised his eyebrows, forgetting about the chocobo for a second even as he kept on scratching it. "Yeah?" He had no clue what it was exactly she wanted to talk about, or why she hadn't already said something about it - and he definitely didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing. Studying her face, he shrugged his shoulders a bit. "What is it?"
Words - 672 Muse - Pretty gewd, though I ran out of juice halfway through again. Notes - Nope. :3 He totally thinks she's going to whisper sweet nothings

Shaking her head slightly, Vanille couldn’t help but disagree with Hope. There were a few horrible things he could’ve said about her, but she appreciated the comment and went along with it, a smile on her face as usual. “Alright! If you say so!” She chimed in her Australian accented voice. It would be pretty exciting to meet Hope’s father, after all, Hope hadn’t been so pleased about the idea of returning to Palumpolum and letting his dad know what happened. As Vanille had told Sazh once, ‘your son needs you’, of course it worked the other way around as well. A father needed his son just as bad, you were family and there was no getting rid of you. She seemed to lose herself in those memories with both Sazh and Hope, both dealing with father/son issues, yet Vanille seemed to provide a good amount of optimism to both sides, even if she was miles beyond miles away from one, it was nice to know that maybe she encouraged Hope enough to try and make amends with his father.
Vanille laughed a tiny bit at the thought of ‘bred in captivity’ chocobos. It was sad really, animals deserved to be wild and free, chocobos included. Of course there were a couple of exceptions, like Sazh’s chocobo! The frocobo! He was a cute little bird, a great pet for Dajh, but being locked up for people just to stare at, it just wasn’t right. “They’re much better wild! I saw some of the chocobos on Cocoon in Nautilus, personally, the Pulsian birds are much better, bigger and friendlier.” She said smiling almost sounding a bit factual with her words, though it was just an opinion. No matter where she went though, whether it was Nautilus or Gran Pulse, she still loved those big yellow birds, and the cute fluffy sheep that seemed to hop close by. She was a sucker for the adorable things in life. Flowers…sheep…chocobos...practically anything, and that’s what made her so happy and excited to see the chocobo in Oerba.
Stroking the bird, Vanille was content. She was quite happy and relaxed right about now. She was home and with someone she really cared for, that was much better than wandering around Pulse alone going on some wild goose chase for people you hadn’t seen in months. Gazing at the bird, it made the memories come back once again…their adventure through Cocoon and Pulse, to stop Galenth Dysley and defy their focus…it was a lot of work but in the end, everything happened for the better, and now the citizens of Cocoon were making a new way of life here on Pulse. Evil was erupting once more though, it was a feeling of déjà vu, but at least this time around, Vanille had no reason to feel so guilty about causing anything, in fact she wasn’t really involved all that much. All she really knew were the basics, Fang and Light were L’Cie and Barthandules was back. What more was there to tell? She had no idea what the girls’ focus was, but she wanted to help anyway she can. First off, spread the word.
“They are smart creatures. Perhaps after a bit more bonding time, then maybe he’ll help you out.” Vanille giggled a bit as her cheery attitude began to fade a tiny bit. Still petting the chocobo, she rested against it for a moment, her eyes gazing down at the ground and it was obvious what she had to say wasn’t exactly wonderful news. “I’m not sure if you have heard, If Lightning had contacted you, but I figured you should know just as much as anyone else.” She started before taking in a deep breath and shaking her head some. No, not good at all. “Barthandules, the fal’Cie…he is back. Revived somehow and causing chaos once more, at least that is my hunch.” She figured it would be best to stop there. If Lightning and Fang wanted more to know about them being L’Cie, then it was their duty to spill the beans, not Vanille. The least she could do was inform Hope and the others about the return of the evil fal’Cie, with new plans of destruction to bring back the Maker…at least that’s what Vanille thought. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 834 Muse: Great! "I can't argue with that." was Hope's response to Vanille's talk of the Pulse chocobos. Pulse was something else good that had come out of Hope's time as a l'Cie. All he'd ever known before being Purged was Palumpolum, a city that was nice to look at but stuck in a fairly ugly place (to him, anyway). He didn't mind city life, but that's probably what made him so soft to begin with. And all he'd ever been taught in school (which was another bonus of Pulse - not having any school yet) was that Gran Pulse was filled with witches and barbarians and monsters and pretty much everything no kid from Cocoon ever wanted to see. Maybe some of that had been right - there were plenty of monsters, and plenty of things Hope had never wanted to see. And even though he only knew two Pulsians, he knew that they weren't barbarians at all. In fact, they might have been even better people than a lot of the people on Cocoon. Witches? Maybe...but just because of the magic thing. That made Hope a wizard, didn't it?
Cracking a smile at the thought, he wondered if he should say something to Vanille and if she'd find it just as funny. But..he wasn't really sure, and she seemed perfectly happy and pretty standing there petting the chocobo, so he decided to stay quiet for now and keep on with the petting himself. He did notice the slightest bit of a distant look on her face every now and then, ever since she'd first gotten here. It could have just been Hope imagining things, since he hadn't seen her in a while and maybe he'd just forgotten how she reacted to certain things, but he definitely thought there was something going on that she was edging towards talking about. Was it something about Fang? Was that why they weren't together right now? Hope could play the guessing game all day without figuring anything out, though.
That's why he wasn't really sure what she was going to tell him when she got that serious look on her face until she actually said it, even if he'd been hoping for something a lot better than what she actually told him... Her bringing up Lightning contacting him made him wonder....he'd talked to her, yeah, but she'd just been checking on him.....right? Was she checking on him because she thought something bad had happened, or something bad had happened to her? Hope's mind raced all the way until the point that Vanille said the name Barthandelus. His jaw dropping, he took a step back from her and the chocobo as she finished what she was saying. "What!?" He yelped out, spooking the chocobo a bit as he did so. That didn't make any sense....it couldn't make any sense...and he didn't want it to make any sense. They'd brought down Barthandelus for good...he knew it....
"How!? We all saw what happened to him!" Hope thought he was done with corrupt fal'Cie. He really did. He thought his worst problem right now was the whole girl thing he was trying to figure out that was made even worse by Vanille standing in front of him. But this...this wasn't right. Staring at the ground in frustration, he stepped back up to the chocobo and started rubbing him again, shaking his head in amazement while he did. "Where is he now?" He looked up and asked her, finally grabbing ahold of himself well enough to make some sense of the thing. Maybe he'd come back......but if he wasn't causing any trouble here, they didn't have anything to worry about? Right? Maybe Titan wouldn't let him on Pulse...
A lot of maybes when it came to fal'Cie.

The chocobo seemed fairly happy, as did Vanille. Thinking about Pulse, it's creatures, and just being HOME, it made Vanille even more delightful than she already was. In fact, it was hard to get the smile off her face unless the subject got really depressing. Continuing to pet the chocobo lightly, Vanille smiled and nodded at Hope once as her thoughts drifted away to her past. Not only was she thinking of their adventure together through their most recent focus, but back on the lazy days with Fang, before the War of Transgression, over 500 years ago. Although life was nice back then, she had to admit she loved it even more in modern days. She knew some pretty nice people back in her day, like Fang! But that was pretty much the only person Vanille had come to care for...now she had a whole family to look at, to cherish and love for a long time. And they were all safe...well, almost. Aside from this new focus ordeal, everything was going just...peachy!
Ugh! That focus! Vanille was really really lucky to have ran off when she did. After spotting Raines with Lightning and Fang, Nille had taken off to find some sort of assistance, whether it was Snow, Sazh, or even Hope, she just took off to find someone. It was only a little bit later that Barthandules had appeared and Cocoon had raised back up into the sky, leaving crystal shards falling to the ground and the old shell in ruins, at least that was Vanille's assumption. Another that suffered some type of crystallization and the power of Ragnarok had to have taken severe damage. Not everything would be intact, it would be nice to explore it one day, to go through the places she had been. Like Nautilus for instance, or the Sunleth Waterscape and Bodhum...of course, things were coming along great here on Gran Pulse, Vanille was in no hurry to return to the world above once more.
It was then she began to explain everything. Getting into very little details of their focus and what all happened, after all it was just second hand information to her as well as it was to Hope now, but at least he was getting informed in the first place. Snow knew, Lightning and Fang of course knew what was going on, all that was left was to finish filling in Hope, then begin her quest to find Sazh. Oh what fun wild goose chases were these days, especially on such a large world like Pulse. Anyways, she felt her face fall from her naturally cheery attitude to very...quite depressed actually. Her eyes went to the ground as she stared at her shoes. Her pace on petting the chocobo slowed almost to not even moving before Hope shouted a bit and startled the chocobo. Eyes flickering up, Vanille stepped back from the chocobo as if ruffled its feathers and calmed down a bit. "You guys also saw what happened to Fang and I, Raines is back, and so is Yaag Rosch...it just doesn't seem to make any sense." She said shaking her head wishing she had better answers, but really...she was completely clueless.
Sighing a little bit, Vanille tried to force a smile onto her face just as she did for a long time back on their journey through their focus. If she could stay positive, perhaps that would make the other people around her feel positive as well? It'd be nice for people not to panic and worry so much, just to keep an eye out for anything suspicious you know? "But don't worry! Everything will turn out alright, you'll see!" She chimed in her fake happy voice- though you couldn't really pick it out between her real voice- and just smiled wide, though inside she wasn't all that happy, just trying to keep up her image for the sake of others once again. "As for his location, I'm not quite sure. I...don't have many details on it all, just a brief explanation." She said with a small shrug before sighing a tiny bit and petting the chocobo some more. It was probably time to change the subject...or at least try to lighten the mood a little bit. "There's no need to worry about that old creep! If we've brought him down many times before, who's to say we can't do it again?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 846 Muse: Good! Slowly but surely, the shock began to settle out, Hope's frantic mind calming down just long enough for him to reel himself in. Instead of barking out, he became quiet, just listening to all Vanille was telling him with a little bit of worry in his eyes. The story had its high points....Raines was back. Hope, honestly, was relieved to hear that Rosch, who had turned out to be a pretty decent guy at the end of the chaos, had been brought back. The rest was mostly a mixed bag, as well. Frustration washed over, thinking that Barthandelus could play with the eight of them, including Dajh and Serah, like they were his toys again. Would the situation have been any better if he were toying with other innocent people? No, not at all. Hope would have still noticed the burning desire to stop the fal'Cie yet again growing in his chest even if Barthandelus was off on another planet, bothering people Hope would never meet. Hope almost wished he had all of his powers again, just so he could stand up to Barthandelus as a l'Cie again and make sure he hit him with so many Thundaga spells that the fal'Cie would never come back again.
Heh, that seemed like something Snow would think. Hope seemed to feel that old anger he'd felt at Snow once in the past over the death of his mother at Barthandelus, though this time his new family were the victims, and he had just as little power now to do something about the perpetrator as he'd had to stand up to Snow. At least he had the courage now....what little good it would do him. What else wouldn't do him any good? Getting discouraged. He should have learned that lesson long before now...like the last time he got so discouraged that it basically made him sick. And when he radiated discouragement, it passed over to other people. He noticed Vanille's expression fall, and a weird feeling compelled him to take an awkward step towards her. He always said he didn't want to bring the people around him down, and it bothered him to see that happening now. With things as they were, Vanille probably didn't need another reason to feel down, but Hope still felt kind of responsible.
His mouth fumbled open for a moment, trying to think of something reassuring to say, but Vanille beat him to the punch. Straining his mouth into a smile, he nodded in agreement with her. "Right." Not the most reassuring of rights, but Hope used it to swallow his despair. He really really really wanted to give Vanille a reassuring pat or squeeze or something (despite being the one that probably needed more reassuring), but he ultimately just kept on scratching the neck of the chocobo. The bird was a welcome distraction. Too bad he couldn't take down Barthandelus. The chocobo seemed to warp at Hope's thoughts.
"I'm just...wondering if this won't happen over and over. If we have to stop him again...or even if it's someone else this time...what if he just comes back again and again and again? It's all the same both ways." The next words he kept to himself. Once a l'Cie, always a l'Cie. Even if there wasn't any brand or any focus for he himself or for Vanille, wouldn't they always feel like they were responsible to fight against something like Barthandelus? Wasn't it almost like a responsibility? Hope found himself literally shaking his silver hair back and forth to stop writing the book before he knew the facts.
But they had more to rely on now, right? More knowledge of how to beat him, more friends to help them. Heck, the military might even try to fight Barthandelus this time. Thinking about how much they'd gained since their time as l'Cie was at least encouraging. "Maybe if he sees the whole world's against him now, he'll back off." Hope thought out loud. "We've still all got each other. And maybe Rosch and Raines. I guess it's not us against the world this time around. It's him against all of us." The words actually felt kind of comforting to him....hopefully, they would do the same for Vanille. Words - 782 Muse - Stupendous! Notes - He's getting all eloquent on me.

Staying positive was the key to getting through all of this. If you had a good optimistic outlook of all of this, then there was nothing you couldn’t do! If you had a negative look at it all, well then it was probably just best to give up and die now rather than fight back. There was no way Vanille could ever think that way…of course there did come a time when someone gave in to despair and hit rock bottom. Then again, once you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up! The subject was rather depressing though, and it definitely worried the young Pulsian knowing that Barthandules, the basic definition of evil, was back and lurking around not only Pulse, but also many different worlds out there. It didn’t matter who or what got involved, the problem at hand was the general fact that Barthandules was alive, even if nothing terrible had gone into effect. One had to wonder what he was planning this time. Revenge against the L’Cie who shattered his idea of bringing back the maker? Or did he want to continue with that one more time?
Plastering a smile onto her face, Vanille always kept some form of cheerful look on her face, just so the mood wasn’t completely ruined. If some sort of bystander had observed her behavior most of the time, one would say she was stupid and had no idea what dangers lay awaiting for not just Fang and Lightning, but the other former L’Cie as well. She was by no means stupid, she knew exactly what was going on and she certainly feared it. She just didn’t want to make anyone else dwell upon it, so of course her sunny disposition just needed to help somehow, even if it meant completely faking her emotions. Smiling over at Hope, Vanille nodded some and just kept her happy mood going. She knew he probably wouldn’t be trying as hard as she was to remain carefree, but at least she was making an attempt to keep the happy moment alive. “Don’t you worry, everything will turn out just fine. Trust me.” Oh so typical of Nille, as she had stated once before…’I’ve told so many lies.’
That was one of them.
Hope had brought up an excellent point. What if Barthandules was one of those things that just wouldn’t go away? Even if they destroyed him physically…he would just end up coming back once again. He had this time, but not everyone had an unlimited supply of lives or anything, this wasn’t a video game! (lulz ) There was no ‘retry’ button in life, you die…you’re gone…at least in most cases. Raines was alive. Rosch was alive. And Barthandules. Was there some sort of weird unknown loophole in death? It apparently wasn’t eternal…and it was causing problems. “I don’t know. Guess what means we’ll just have to defeat him over and over and over again, doesn’t it?” she squeaked before looking back at the chocobo who really seemed to be enjoying the attention. Gazing at the feathery creature, Vanille smiled slightly, but not near as extreme as before, petting the bird’s neck and reaching towards its beak, it softly kewed and fluttered its wings a bit. There really was no way to shake this off was there? Somehow…Vanille knew that this would be a never ending battle between humans/L’Cie and the fal’Cie. It was an endless cycle of death, battle, and a never occurring victory.
“Perhaps there will be more people on our side this time around. After all, I don’t think anyone wants to go through the chaos that happened last time. Might as well stomp out the fire before it spreads.” Vanille shrugged her shoulders before dropping her hands to her sides and gazing at the chocobo who began to move around. Glancing over at Hope, Vanille then clasped her hands together as she thought of what else to say. “If we can get more people to understand what’s going on, then maybe…just maybe Barthandules won’t come back! The world against him, everyone.” It was a good idea, but how would they make people see that the real threat was the fal’Cie? And not anything Pulse related? Well, if you get one person convinced, then it just means that anything is possible. One person could turn into a handful, that could turn into a crowd, and then from there…an entire population against the fal’Cie would pose a threat to the old fal’cie, it had to. If not that…than what else could they do? “What do you say to a subject change? I think I’ve killed the mood enough today.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 910 Muse: Good Tagged: Hope Wearing: Tribal Outfit Listening To: Nothing Notes: Sorry it took awhile for me to get up o.O

"Maybe we should have known it would be like this. I mean, we were always fighting a god...and gods are supposed to be eternal. We got caught up in the fight and forgot that the fal'Cie were the ones that formed the worlds we live in. I guess as long as the worlds exist, the fal'Cie will too. Doesn't mean we can't stand up to them, but...." Hope reluctantly added to his depressing points, but saying all these things out loud at least kept the weight off of his shoulders. He knew what it felt like to have too much baggage, in the form of anger and sorrow, hanging from his shoulders. Telling someone what he really felt, even if it was something the other person wouldn't want to hear. "...they'll always outlast us anyway, won't they? Humans can get old....and, well, you know. Fal'Cie are always going to be around."
Actually, something ironic occurred to him. Again, instead of keeping it to himself, he kind of thought out loud, his eyes just kind of wandering along the ground. "Heh...they're kind of shooting themselves in the foot with l'Cie...they just make those humans angrier and give them the power to fight back against them. Now that we've showed people that a l'Cie can beat a focus, Dysley might think again before trying to use people. If he's supposed to be a higher being, he should be smart enough to figure out he's just wasting his time trying to fool people." It kind of helped to think about Dysley as the stupid, stubborn one, when he liked to think his 'piteous l'Cie' or whatever he'd called them were the foolish ones. He also seemed less imposing when you thought about him as a ranting old man who was set in his ways. After all, he pretty much was a ranting old man, even if he did have godly powers. But as long as he kept giving humans godly powers, his own abilities wouldn't matter much.
He already felt a lot better about things, and thinking about an entire world's worth of people against a corrupt fal'Cie like Barthandelus only made him feel better. The corruption of fal'Cie was no longer a secret now, as it had been when the brand sat on Hope's arm and marked him as a Pulse l'Cie to be feared. People knew what the corruption had done to Cocoon - they could see their planet looming above them every day of their lives and knew about Dysley's plot now. Even though they tolerated the Pulse fal'Cie like Titan and Atomos mainly because they minded their own business, they were still unhappy with fal'Cie in general for orchestrating the destruction of their home. If they saw that Barthandelus had come back to bother them again....it would be a much different story than last time. "Yeah." Hope chimed in, finally managing a genuinely optimistic tone and looking Vanille straight in the eye. "He's just a coward. Once he finds out people won't let him control them anymore, he'll give up. And if he doesn't...everyone will show him why humans control their own fates now."
A small, absent grin actually crossed his face, with him almost able to see Dysley's face if a million people or more stood up to him. Would he really have so much power with so many people against him? Hope didn't think so. His power was built on fooling people, and he wouldn't be fooling anybody anymore. Hope meant to say something to Vanille about that, but when she recommended changing the subject, he gave his head a slight nod in agreement. "Yeah, I think that's a good idea." He answered, his good mood mostly renewed. He glanced again to the chocobo that he'd temporarily forgotten about, scrunching up his eyebrows in focus and thought. "Do.....you think there are any more around?" He asked, not betraying his reasoning behind asking. Words - 738 Muse - Good! Notes - Yey. I don't know why I'm so horrible at moving this thread forward with Hope going on and doing something else useful but I am. >>

How could you stay positive? Well, no matter what, Vanille could twist any negative subject into a positive one! Or at least she’d try, but sometimes it was just too damn hard! Almost wanting to stomp around and huff a bit, Vanille just kept herself contained and forced a smile upon her face still looking at Hope, taking his words in and once again twisting them into something positive. Even if the fal’Cie were eternal, that didn’t mean someone didn’t have a chance standing up to them, look at all the times she, Hope, and the others had taken down Barthandules! The fal’Cie from Taejin’s tower, Anima, Orphan…all of them. If that couldn’t prove something then well, she didn’t know what could. There was always hope, not to be making puns or anything, but it was a true fact. “I guess that’s one way to look at it, I still believe that we can live in a world without the aid of the fal’Cie, it may not be today or next week, but in the future, I’m quite positive things will turn around.” She squeaked in her accented voice with optimism. They may have to battle their entire lives against the fal’Cie, but who knew what the future would bring? Fate had a funny way of messing with people, twisting and turning onto different paths that no one would’ve expected, that was how Vanille saw it.
What Hope said then did make Vanille think. If Dysley really was as smart as he seemed to be, you’d think he’d lay off and leave the L’Cie alone, but then again, in Fang and Light’s case, they had been branded by the fal’Cie Titan. Was this some sort of indirect war from Pulse vs Cocoon again? The Sanctum fal’Cie vs the Pulse fal’Cie? Vanille would have to ask one of the two what their focus specifically was before deciphering this down to the last detail. Shrugging some and nodding in agreement, she continued to stroke the chocobo. “I wonder if the citizens of Cocoon have finally realized that Pulse isn’t such a bad place after all, and that the Pulse L’Cie never were the enemy…though knowing what they were grown up to believe, it would be hard to convince someone otherwise.” She said with a bit of disappointment in her tone. Oh well, if at least one person would believe, then maybe that could spread to another person…because as she had said before- to Hope ironically- ripples can makes waves! It would be a domino effect, a chain reaction! Something like that at least…all it took was a bit of good convincing.
Patting the chocobo’s beak lightly, Vanille smiled and looked away from Hope, gazing back at the city of Oerba. Things were finally quieting down, people were getting on with their lives once more, who was Barthandules to strip that newfound happiness away from them? Keeping silent she simply nodded at Hope once more, listening to him instead of chiming in with her own optimistic words, there was a time when she needed to be quiet and just let the moment roll onwards, this was that time. Instead of being a bubbly bouncing bundle of optimism, she could sit by quietly and just agree with whatever was being said, not that it was negative, Hope was completely right. Soon the fal’Cie would have to realize that humans weren’t as weak and powerless as they had believed. They were no longer pulling the strings, it was the people who were in control of their own lives. “Right.” She spoke happily, agreeing and believing what he said was right. And it seemed after that, it was the end of the topic and the attention turned back on the chocobo, still enjoying himself as he was getting stroked.
Looking around, the land seemed to be growing once more. There was still crystal dust all over, but grass and flowers were now poking through the sand, It was enjoyable to see, reminded Vanille of the good old days. The new growing nature would certainly draw all the cute fuzzy animals back to Oerba would be fantastic! And perhaps it would draw the cie’th away, at least those that continued to wander around here. “Hm? Oh I’m sure if we look in the right spot we’ll find more chocobos!” She squeaked before completely dropping her hands from the bird and giggling a tiny bit. “Not near the city of course, but they should be around, why? Did you want to go find some? They are lovely creatures aren’t they?” and…Vanille’s happy-go-lucky-talkative mood was back! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 888 Muse: Good!
