Externally, Cole simply regarded Fang's comments with an ever-so-slightly raised eyebrow. Internally, he sighed at almost every sassy retort. He didn't mind what she was saying, of course - he found he had thicker skin than one of those adamantoise things - but a little voice in the back of his head informed him this woman is going to drive you out of your poor little mind by the time this is all over. Cole supposed Fang might have been feeling him out. Trying to get a handle on his personality or something. So long as she didn't start handing out physical abuse in addition to her verbal abuse, he could deal with it. In fact, he almost coughed out a laugh at her "Lady Luck" comment. Yeah...he had been so blessed by luck these past few weeks, he was really counting on a rendezvous with Lady Luck. He kept the thoughts to himself, though. He didn't need these people to realize they were within a few feet of a guy who wouldn't know luck if she dove in his bed and- well, he'd end the analogy there.
Rygdea, on the other hand...he seemed to be Cole's kind of person, if a bit more sky-pirate like. Yet he was supposed to be military, wasn't he? Weird contrast. Regardless, he seemed to be just as serious as Cole was about this expedition, with some of the same doubts and reservations. And he apparently thought Fang would somehow see that they were all killed before this was all over, too. So yeah, Cole felt he had a level playing field with the other man. "I have no idea, to be honest," Cole responded, with a wave of his hand, to Rygdea's question about skirting their way around the focus they'd both been given. His eyes fell on Light momentarily. "But I think if it could be done once, it can be done again. History repeats itself." If Light, Fang and whoever else could complete their focus and still be living and breathing to this day, why couldn't someone just do away with a focus altogether?
Well, that was the question that needed to be answered on this exhibition, wasn't it? And heck, if they could solve a few other problems while they were at it (like the whole idea of a fal'Cie screwing up the life of whomever it chose), then that would be a great bonus.
Cole was jarred from his thoughts with the sound of a side mirror breaking off and skittering down the road behind them. He looked to Alice incredulously, wondering how in the hell she'd managed to cut so closely to a tree, before his eyes turned to the road to make sure that they wouldn't hit the next tree dead-on. "I don't know much about these land vehicles, but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to stay away from the giant objects that are in your way..." Thankfully, they weren't too far off from their turn, which meant it would be a straight shot and a short drive to their next destination. Hopefully they wouldn't be wrapped around any trees before then. He cocked his head at Rygdea's remark about driving. "No complaints from me..."
Holding the odd little datapad thing in front of his face and trying to make out the display in the glare of the sun, Cole shook his head at Alice. "We got about a quarter of a mile to go...I'll let you know when." He paused. "I'll let you know well ahead of time. Let's try not to go flying past it and decide to turn at the last second. That would be great."
And so, after a few more seconds of staring at the screen, Cole gave the word, and the little band skittered off deeper into the wilderness.
-----------------------------------------------------
And shockingly, they arrived at their destination without anyone being gored by a tree branch, thrown from the truck, or dead of a heart attack.
Cole rolled himself out of the passenger seat and felt very glad to be standing on solid ground again, albiet extremely uneven solid ground. Placing his hands on his hips, Cole surveyed the area. They were in the right place, alright. Nothing but trees, trees, trees...oh, and vines. And a pretty good-sized, obviously man-made ruin of a...well, a something. The point was, it was really old, and in Cole's experience, really old things (at least those built to last) tended to house really important, old things. Hopefully, Cole would not find that Gran Pulse was any different from Ivalice in that regard.
"We need to find a way in," he told the others, once he'd turned back to them. "Don't overthink it too much. There's probably a door." He started trotting towards the ruins as he finished speaking, already pulling away vines and leaves.

Lightning kept pretty quiet through the drive, the rough drive, as she sat in the bed of the truck with her arms folded, her gunblade resting in her lap and her eyes closed. She just wanted to get to their location and hopefully figure something out. If this was a wasted trip and nothing came up…well…there wasn’t much one could do about that, but at least they’d tried right? Light, Fang and the rest of the gang didn’t go this all out when searching for answers the first time around. They simply traveled to Oerba where Dysley had been waiting for them and from there, it was off to Cocoon again to save the world, or something along those lines. If they did find something out here though, it’d be a miracle. What if there were some old analects that led to the ‘cure’ for the brands? What if one could really defy their focus and just rid of it altogether without having to worry about becoming a Cie’th? Lightning sighed quietly, her eyes still closed as she felt a small frown tug at her lips. She didn’t like the fact that this wild redhead was driving, it was only a matter of time before they drove straight into a tree or off a cliff…what a lovely thing to think about.
Hearing the snapping of the side view mirror, aqua eyes flashed open before she turned around to face the red head through the window in the back, a scowl on her lips and irritation simply skyrocketing. “How about you try getting us there in one piece huh? I’d rather not end up horribly mangled by your careless driving, pay attention.” She hissed before turning back away from the front of the vehicle, her muscles tightening and that scowl still resting on her face before more conversation was made. She still kept silent, not saying anything. There wasn’t much to say to begin with. She was merely along to make sure that no one got mauled by the wild life of Pulse, and maybe to help, adding in the legends of Pulse and Cocoon that she had been taught as a child before her parents’ deaths, if she could help in any way already she could, but if there was nothing to say, she wasn’t going to talk. Well that, and she was just praying mentally to Etro and any other god out there that Alice didn’t wrap the car around a tree. If that miracle wish could be granted, then it seemed that anything really was possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the vehicle came to a stop, Lightning stood up, sheathing her gunblade in the pouch behind her as she leaped out of the back and onto the ground. Sweet, still, motionless ground. She hadn’t appreciated as much until now. As her eyes scanned the scenery, looking for any signs of danger more than simply sightseeing, she folded her arms again like usual, taking a few steps away from the truck and just slowly looking at things. They were old ruins, covered in moss and other greenery. If this was their first stop on the trip…well, she wondered what else would lay ahead for them. This certainly had the concept of expedition down to a T. Crumbling ruins, looking for answers…it was like some sort of action flick, and the action hadn’t even started yet, if any were to arrive aside from the drive here. It made Lightning stay more alert than she should have been, and as she began to wander away from the truck, looking at a taller piece, ruins covered in nature, she tilted her head a bit, stopping and gazing at it. Where would a door be? Obviously somewhere hidden, or even covered by these mossy plants, she didn’t see much, a few crumbling pieces of stone here, a few there, but nothing simple like a door. Maybe there was one on another side? Tch, whatever. Taking a few slow steps towards the side of the figure, she watched carefully. “Guess they aren’t making this easy on us, hm?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 779 Muse: Pretty good! Alice now gripped the steering wheel tighter as she heard each of their comments about how shitty her driving was. Get us there in one piece, next time I am driving, stay away from giant objects, get us there in one piece again, man it was like critique city out here in the middle of nowhere. She shook her head at this and looked around as if she were looking for something, “Ohh I am sorreh, I must have misplaced my ‘Give a Crap’ meter.” She said then throwing her hands up in the air, thus letting go of the wheel. “But if ya’ be findin’ it let me know. Last I checked everyone’s head was still attached.” She retorted as she continued driving, placing one hand at two and the other at ten on the wheel. She could tell even by these miles that this was going to be an interesting trip, and she knew who the bad guy here was going to be. She looked to Cole as he explained that he would give her the word, the whole time he went on about not driving by it at the last second, and whatever else he decided to throw in at her, the speed of the truck never changed and she never took her eyes off him until he was finished. And hopefully she had gotten her point in as she had not hit anything through his ‘well ahead of time’ speech. She smirked at him and then turned her head back to the road with a nod.
Alice pulled the truck to a more than gentle stop; in fact she wasn’t going more than five miles per hour as she heard Cole say to turn. She planted a quirky smile atop her face as the wheels finally after what seemed like forever come to a complete stop. Now she was just being a jerk, but it was too easy. She reached back after everyone had got out of the truck and grabbed her bag to avoid glares, which she knew she would get. She slung it over shoulder as she stood up in the driver’s seat looking at the ruins. Arching a brow as Cole stated that they needed to find a way inside, well now he was just being captain obvious. She smirked as she jumped from the truck, don’t over think, right. Alice pulled herself up to the first inclined step, then the second one and finally she had managed to get to the top of the ruins. Alice arched her brows again as she watched the other four, she then looked down to where she was standing.
Exploration had never been her thing; in fact for the most part she had been a non-social human being for most of her life. Yet here she was being as social as she could be, and even that was not much. It was then when Alice felt the old brick below her shift, she looked down again and then it happened, quickly. The roof to what was left to the ruins crumbled under her and she soon felt herself free falling to the ground, if there was a ground below. She hit the said ground with a loud thud; thankfully all the brick had broke her fall and decided not to crush her face. She blinked her eyes a few times looking at the now entrance above her. “Thanks ohh mighty Etro, Thanks!” She said with a shake of her head, as if cursing under her own breath, still catching her breath from the blow to the back. Alice blinked again going to stand up, “I think I’ foun’ your freakin’ entrance!” She said in a slight yell, more to Cole than anyone else. She dusted off her pants along with her shirt and went to pick up her bag, pulling it from under a one of the bricks. She then flung it back over her shoulder going to stand up properly again trying to get a look around, “I hope’ some bodeh’ decided to pack their torch today.” She said in an ‘I actually forgot that torch’ tone of voice.
"But I think if it could be done once, it can be done again. History repeats itself."
Fang pondered about that, tucking her hand up under her chin and shrugging her shoulders. Though he was directing the comment at Lightning, she felt it included her. After all, they had both been there, when they had taken Barthandelus and Orphan down. Then, Fang had thought it had been for good. After that, the rule of the Fal’cie had been broken, and yet here they were. Obviously, though they had thought they had fixed things, there were obviously some things left for them to fix. So what now? “History moight repeat itself…but then again, it moight no’. We’ll see ‘bout tha’ when we cross that bridge. Don’ get yer hopes up though.” Fang, always the realist. Talking about hope, that was the job for Snow and Vanille, and Sazh. Her, Light and Hope had been the ones that had always questioned more. A good balance, when you were talking about the old crew. Still, Lady Luck might be on their side. If it was, then they might have a shot at this.
"I don't know much about these land vehicles, but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to stay away from the giant objects that are in your way..."
With a snort, Fang crossed her arms and shook her head. That comment right there had just earned him some more appreciation and respect from Fang. She thought the red head just a little bit insane. Sure, she’d do crazy stunts on Bahamut, but as far as she was concerned, they were in a contraption she wasn’t especially fond of. The woman should leave it the hell alone and actually concentrate. Still, Fang did nothing but roll her eyes and sit back further in the seat. With a little yawn, Fang relaxed her body, rested a bit against Rygdea, and settled down for the remainder of the ride. If they survived and came out on the other side alive, it would be a miracle. Then again, she’d bail out of this damned contraption if she had to, and quick at that. She wasn’t very fond of it…at all. But whatever, it rattled and shook, gears ground too much, but all in all….well whatever, it would do if it had to.
---------------------------------------------------------------
”Don't overthink it too much. There's probably a door."
Fang shrugged and jumped out of the vehicle. More then glad that damned trip was over, Fang crawled out and stretched her body, yawning slightly, looking somewhat like a feline just woken from her nap. Running a hand through her hair, Fang leaned against the ruins, a bored expression on her face. Sure, she was the Gran Pulse expert, but Fang was gonna have just as much fun as possible. If they were going to put her in that damned contraption and haul her around, then she was going to relax while they found the damne door. As far as she was concerned, they should just go through it, any way needed. But if she suggested that she was sure at least some would give her a funny look. So she just shrugged and stood, waiting for them to do their stuff. Leaning her lance against the wall in front of her, Fang studied it, noting that a few places needed a brushing up to get it sharp again. Well hell, she needed to take care of that now didn’t she.
“I think I’ foun’ your freakin’ entrance!”
Perking up slightly, Fang turned her green eyes toward the red haired woman. Moving away from the wall, Fang moved toward where she had last seen the woman she couldn’t bring herself to care that much about. Still, she was there, and if she found the door, then that meant that once again they were going to move. Jumping and clambering up, Fang finally got to the top and knelt, peering down at the woman. Resting against her lance, she raised her brow, green eyes watching the woman. That was…one way to find an entrance. Shrugging, Fang glanced at the hole she had created. “Hellova way to find an entrance.” Shaking her head, she moved, jumping in. Falling, she absorbed the landing by bending her knees, and peered around her, waiting for the rest.
A faint smile touched his lips as he heard Cole rebuke Alice for not trying to avoid 'the giant objects' in their way. He remembered a similar conversation he had had with a cadet once on a flight simulator who was so convinced that he was the greatest prodigy ever to emerge from the academy that he had developed a habit of not paying attention and therefore tended to miss rather important things - birds, incoming missiles, other ships, the sun - little things like that. Apparently after Rygdea's 'little talk' the cadet had sharpened right up, probably because the sound of Rygdea's voice had echoed in the furthest reaches of the Academy for about three days afterwards. That tended to remind up-starts who was in charge around there. Unfortunately that was not an option here, mostly because Rygdea wasn't in charge here, but he was quite happy to give up the burden of responsibility for a while. He had his own focus to fulfil, even as he tried to help Cole and the others. His own quest was not so reprehensible as to be unthinkable, there did not seem to be any mass destruction involved, so although he was not happy about it, Rygdea grudgingly accepted it was better to be an angry crystal than a very noble cie'th, which is ultimately what would happen if he resisted Titan's orders for too long. If people had been getting hurt that was a different matter, but these Pulse fal'cie maybe were a little better than those on Cocoon. Yes, Rygdea still wanted to see the day when men could live completely apart from fal'cie rule. No more l'cie. Ever. But he was still a practical man and if he was right about Titan's focus for him, it was to protect people and not hurt them, and in the face of all his ideals, it would be foolish to resist the call. Other people needed him and he would really like to not turn into a monster. Perhaps Cole would succeed on finding the answer though, and that was just fine with Rygdea. He didn't particularly want to be a crystal either. Perhaps the most stupid part about this whole thing is that if Titan had simply spoken to Rygdea, and it was not as if the gigantic fal'cie could not talk, then Rygdea would have been very inclined to follow these orders anyway. It made good sense, at least if he had to do what he thought he had to do...
They made it to the ruins without dying, or even serious injury, which was pleasantly surprising. Rygdea nodded as Cole told them they needed to find the entrance, "I didn't think we were just here for the view." He moved upwards and around to the back of the building, wondering if a door would even be obvious to them. The ancients took decades to build these kind of places, he knew that much from his history classes, and if you spend your entire life chipping a temple out of solid rock, you don't fix a slap-dash wooden door on the front. Most likely the entrance would fit so closely with the rocks around that it would not even appear as a door on sight alone. As he moved around he noticed Alice already up on the top of the structure. That was probably dangerous, these were ruins after all, but before he could try mentioning that to her, the roof of the structure inevitably swayed and collapsed inwards, with Alice falling down into the hole she had just created. Rygdea swore and scrambled up after her, but she was evidently just fine, and he felt a grin on his face as she pointed out she had found the entrance for them in that blaze manner of hers. Rygdea jumped down, landing catlike on his feet next to Fang. "Smooth entrance," he joked to Alice, his eyes along searching around them, taking in the ancient stonework and looking for the way forward.
Upon Alice's request for a torch, he unclipped a small panel on his wrist and it spun, unveiling a little torch which popped up about half an inch from his cuff. A small but extremely powerful beam of light was thrown onto the opposite wall. This was why he had worn his uniform - these suits weren't just for show, they contained any number of useful tools that regular civilian clothing couldn't match up to. Not to mention it was armoured and dying was not at the top of his 'To Do' list right now. As he moved his hand the light tracked his movement, although while they were still under the broken roof there was plenty of light to see by. There appeared to be a couple of corridors running off of his chamber, how far they ran for was unknowable at this stage. Rygdea could only assume whatever secrets Cole was looking for would be buried somewhere deep within this place. But which way? WORDS; 855 TAGGED; Cole/Light/Alice/Fang MUSE; Back! Woohoo! "They wouldn't have any fun laughing at us from the afterlife if they made it easy."
Cole made his aside to Lightning as she walked past, searching for the entrance as the others had spread out to do, but he was more intent on dusting off some sort of crevice he'd spotted in the rock. After scraping at it a few seconds, he figured out there was nothing to it. None of the rest seemed to have found anything much of use, either. Oh well, they'd only been peering around a couple of minutes, and it wasn't as if the entrance would have flashing lights that read please come in, the bathrooms are on the right, where you see the bushes. Cole took a few more steps around the side of the structure and kicked at a rock that didn't want to move, only grunting lightly at his failure.
The crashing informed Cole that someone had found something. He whirled around, seeing dust rising from atop the ruin, and started counting off heads so he could figure out who had caused the disaster or if anyone had caused it at all. There was Light. Rygdea. Fang. All three of them stood looking up at the top of the ruin. Well, that left one person, and Cole wouldn't be remotely surprised if she'd crawled up to the top and started hopping on a broken piece of the roof or something else immensely dangerous. "...Great." As he started climbing up towards the top to investigate, he could hear the sound of Alice's voice coming muffled from out of the inside of the ruin. He felt a little relief. Wouldn't that have been great....someone gets killed before they even really get started with the search. Cole would have to reconsider his career....not that the career mattered much now that he was a l'Cie.
He stared down at Alice half-amused and half-distressed, watching the others start to drop inside after her. Cole kicked down a half-cracked piece of the roof and followed it down, landing only smooth enough that he didn't fall over, but caught himself on a hand. He straightened up and dusted the hand off, glancing up above them towards the makeshift entrance. Okay, so no harm done so far, and they were inside. Cole could deal with this, even if he was going to have to make it clear to Alice that climbing around on top of things wasn't going to be healthy for anyone here, much less the person doing the climbing. As he made his way over to the rest, he said as much. "Next time, let's leave the 'make a hole in it' tactic as the last resort, alright?", he told/asked of the redhead, before his eyes diverted to the open room around them. "But if we're in, we're in."
Cole would have reached for the couple of flashlights he was carrying on him if not for witnessing Rygdea doing something with his wrist before a souped-up light-projecting object popped out of it. "Fancy," Cole said as he stared at it, apparently enamored. He had to get himself one of those. He looked down at his little flashlight. For now, it would have to do. Cole clipped it into his belt and flipped it on, poking his hips towards a darker corner to make sure it was shining properly. "Evil ruin-lurking creatures usually flee at the sight of the groin light," Cole commented, realizing he'd never picked the best spot of all time to keep his flashlight. Oh well, if it worked, it worked. He was using that phrase a lot today...
He held up the other flashlight. "You ladies can fight over the other one if you want," Cole informed them, before putting it in Lightning's hand and trotting off towards the two open passages that were ominously staring at them (and blowing almost cold air in their direction, as if breathing with new life). Cole stared down the length of what he could se of one, then the other. He turned to the rest and pointed down the passage further to the left. "Our entrance was that way. This one goes up." He moved his hand towards the other passageway. "And this one goes down. Guess which one we're taking."
Turning and easing his way into the passage, Cole ran his hand along the ground to make sure it was all still stone. He led the way own down the passage with his groin light until it started dipping further and further down and they came to a staircase that was....not really a staircase anymore, since all the steps had worn off. He turned to the nearest person behind him in the narrow passage. "I'll check it out." Cole eyed the way down until he decided just to lie on his back and slide his way down, having horrible memories of sliding down a mountainside just before he'd run into Barty and this whole mess got started. This time around, though, nothing too bad happened, and Cole spilled out into the floor of a completely dark room. He shined a light all around him, seeing nothing of immediate concern...but the room seemed pretty big. "Alright, it's all clear!", he called back into the open staircase, before walking deeper into the room and moving a hand over the gun at his belt, juuuust to be sure.
He walked a little farther until he came across a rock jutting out of the floor, carved clearly by something other than the random ways of the universe. And yep...sure enough, as Cole's light passed over it, he could see some drawings and writings on it, which he brought his face down closer to. Turning around, he could see the forms of the others in the room and their lights and hoped they weren't going to touch something that got them killed. He only called one name. "Fang?"
After surviving the drive there – Lightning wasn’t in the greatest of moods after that bumpy ride – she had already gotten out of the bed of the truck and began looking around the base of these ruins, looking for some sort of entrance. Of course the old people who built this thing wouldn’t have made it easy, otherwise it wouldn’t be much of an expedition now would it? Didn’t these things come with traps, unexpected battles and lots of crumbling rocks just waiting to fall on you? Yeah, this would be some good time. She still kept asking herself why she’d agreed to come on this trip, nothing was really effecting her no matter what happened, but…maybe she just had a soft spot, she knew what it was like to fact a fate that you wanted no part of. Since the L’Cie mess with herself, Fang and the rest of the gang, she’d softened up, not keeping her emotions so bottled up like she once did…maybe that was the real reason as to why she had tagged along. Whatever happened to ‘forget about sympathy’? Guess she was failing to listen to her own advice.
With arms folded, aqua eyes looked up as the crumbling sounds of brick and stone were heard by pretty everyone. All that was missing was the redhead, who had found the entrance by falling through it. That didn’t surprise Lightning all that much. At least it was a start though, and by the sounds Alice’s voice, she hadn’t been wounded, and if she had, well Lightning was the only medic here wasn’t she? How wonderful. Should they come into any injuries, then it’d be her job to help fix those. Moving up the ruins, carefully with her footing so she wouldn’t slip or step on any weak spots and fall through like Alice had, she made her way to the top, watching as Fang and Rygdea had jumped in after Alice, and Lightning walked over before jumping down herself. Hitting the ground on her feet, she bent her knees before standing up straight again, folding her arms and moving out of the way so the last of their little crew could make his way into the ruins as well, and then…well then they could get started.
Down in the darkness, Lightning then blinked as a bit of light finally helped her eyes adjust. Soldiers and armies were given the top tools to get around just about anything, but Lightning…it’d been so long since she’d been with the Guardian Corps, and the things she swiped off PSICOM weren’t necessarily helpful for this mission, all she really had on her was her blazefire saber, her own personal gravity device built into her gloves, and a few handheld gravity devices, just in case something should come along and there’d be a great drop far too difficult for the average person to handle. After getting a few more lights situated, one being placed in Lightning’s hand, she flipped it on and kept it pointed to wherever they were walking, and occasionally checking a few dark corners just in case. One wouldn’t say she was scared or anything, but she wasn’t comfortable. Heh, of all things, who would think Lightning to be afraid of the dark? No, it wasn’t the dark itself, it was the things that could easily kill you while lurking in the shadows.
“Trip would be cut far too short if we went back up.” Lightning commented with a small shrug, not really making herself humorous today, but trying not to seem like a complete crank would be nice. Since Cole had a light, and Rygdea had a light of some sorts, Lightning decided to be the caboose of this little…train of people heading down the passageway, slowly and carefully as she pointed her light this way and that, making sure nothing jumped out at them or came from behind, she was waiting their tail, one of the most important jobs a person could do. Stopping through behind the line of people, Lightning peered past them, and just waited for a signal that everything was okay up ahead. This was just getting creeper to her, it seemed darker now than it did before…and it probably was since they were going deeper. No one could get too comfortable yet seeing as these things usually didn’t start messing with your heads until you were far from the exit, yet far from the destination point inside. Once everyone else started to move when the coast was clear, Lightning bent her knees, slid down the used to be stairs and just remained at the back of the group as she had been doing for quite some time now. Normally she was a leader of sorts, but she’d decided that since this wasn’t her battle, it was just best to stay in the back and help when needed.
Walking around the room, not moving too far from the rest of the gang, Lightning shined the light at the wall, looking for anything suspicious or something that could give them an answer, it was all dusty stone to her eyes, and even as Cole called upon Fang for help, she was focusing on seeing if anything else in the room should be brought to her attention. “Do be careful, these ruins…you never know what sort of traps they have in store for explorers.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 1007 Muse: Great! Alice proceeded to dust herself off as they one by one jumped in the hole that she had created. “Yea’, Yea’. Next time I will make sure ya be askin’ for an encore.” She said with a smirk atop her face as she watched Cole’s rather half assed entrance himself, but she kept that bit to herself, the smirk still lingering as he spoke. She replied with a twirl of her hand just over her head accompanied with a small bow, in his direction. She stood back looking around as they got the lights situated and what not. She placed a hand to her head with a shake of it as the Comedian bucked his hips in an upward fashion as the light made parts of the room flash with a small dash of light. Alice stood with a hand on her hip as he explained, but the thought of going underground, just right out gave her a shiver up the spine. It was not the dark however that turned her skin cold, it was the fact that they were more than six feet under and it just was not natural. She walked over to where he was standing and looked down the rather narrow passageway going downward. “Tight spaces.” She said with a small break in her voice, “Just adjust tha’ groin light’ and let’s be gettin’ a move on. Bein’ underground gives meh tha creeps.” She said as she followed him in second.
This however did not stop her from being a total child in a somewhat serious situation. Alice cleared her throat as she watched Cole’s light, she could not help herself. She released from her throat multiple low moaning noises, as if something that would come from a cheap horror flick. If anyone said anything she had ignored it, still watching Cole’s light. Though as he turned to face the group, she did stop her childish annoyance. She gave a slight smirk and and a nod to the ‘staircase’. She awaited but not long as he gave the all clear. Alice however took the direct approach, sliding down on her feet, it was only when she had reached the bottom that she had tripped over a rock, stumbling forward. She did as well manage to turn and kick the rock away, only to grab at her foot, letting a few loose words come from her mouth. She turned to face the Comedian as if nothing had happened and moved from the way of the staircase.
Alice’s attention was however distracted after that, at least once Rygdea had came down the case with his own light, she had caught glimpse of something on the far wall. She turned on her heel as she heard Cole call for Fang and started to walk to what ever it was that she had seen. The constant movement of the light did not help, but she moved on anyway, as she ran her fingers along the wall for guidance. She tried to get another glance at what she seen as Rygdea’s light passed over again, clearly immersed in her own world, thus not spotting the low beam, cracking her forehead on it. “Son of a..” She trailed off as she grabbed at her head. “Utterly fantastic!” She mumbled as she continued to walk, sure to miss the beam this time. But it did seem that ceiling was getting lower the further that she walked. Alice was well away from the group now, at least furthest away from Cole and Fang. She arched a brow as she knelled down in front of what she was seeing, an elbow atop of her knee. It was a small gem of sorts. She picked it up as she brought it closer to her face so that she could see it more properly, it was a bright bluish color. t was then that she heard Light’s voice, this and that about traps and all.
She stood back up, as she turned to walk back to the rag tag team of explorers. It not until she had stepped on it that she heard a rather loud rumbling noise, and the far side of the room started to shake. She halted not moving an inch as if the world had stopped below her. Finally able to take her eyes off of the ground she looked up to the rest with an arch of her brow as the noise continued.
One by one they dropped in beside them. After her initial comment however, Fang ignored Alice and simply walked away. It would take a few moments for her eyesight to adjust, but as it was, it was starting already. Strides took her out of the light that filtered from the hole that Alice had created. Beyond that not much could be seen for the moment, yet she narrowed her eyes and felt a portion of the walls with her hand. Rough, but she had guessed that. Fang didn’t know exactly what this was. Hell, she’d never seen it before, but if she could see some Pulsian language, she would be able to read it and know what exactly it was. As green eyes adjusted to the lack of lighting, she started to make her way back to where the group were standing and remained more or less silent. Rygdea brought out the technology that Fang hadn’t used before to make them a light. By now though, she was used to him pulling out technology that she’d never seen before, and just went with the flow of things. Looking to the side with the new range of vision they had, Fang continued to remain silent, simply crossing her arms over her chest.
When a light was given to Light, Fang shrugged and glanced around again. Though she couldn’t see so well, she decided to go off by herself. Starting to the side, Fang stepped lightly and carefully, eyes adjusting once more to the darkness. The lights bobbed in the hands of those that actually had them, but she didn’t honestly mind not actually having one herself. Then again, she was the only among them that could read any of the writings they found, and that was supposed to be her ‘job’. Hands brushed along the wall and she studied how it was laid out. The architecture was more or less what she was used to. A few centuries older then her maybe, but she could recognize the layout, and so when he mentioned that they were going down, Fang found herself agreeing. “Anythin’ of importance’ll be down, so probably the way t’ go.”
Walking back, Fang came close just in time to see the figure of Cole slip into the passageway and disappear. Going after him, Fang took her time, feeling the wall for anything carved there. Faintly she heard Lightning warn the others about traps and such. She was right, the Pulsian’s had very much liked to make things tricky, and so there could be switches and levers different places. She wondered then why she had never heard of this place, or seen it in her travels. She had been a huntress after all, most of Gran Pulse had been explored by her. Still, she reasoned that it was just too big to be able to see everything. Despite the heat that had been on the outside, she could feel the cool air that being in these dark rooms provided. Dusting some of the grime and dirt from off her hands, Fang moved on, but stopped when Cole said that he would check it out. Shrugging her shoulders, she remained where she was for the moments when he went down in and yawned, waiting for the go ahead. The way he went down made her shake her head. He reminded her of a big kid sometimes. Yet she waited, If anyone was going to be eaten, why not him. He seemed willing for the job. Then again, she doubted there were any boogymen down here.
Getting the go ahead, Fang started down, picking her way down instead of sliding like he had. As she went though, the ground started to slide beneath her with the loose gravel. Increasing her stride, Fang jumped and skidded down the path, one leg extended and a hand placed lightly on the ground behind her in order to stabilize herself. Spilling out at the other end, Fang dove the remaining few feet, landing with her knee bent, second knee almost touching the ground and her hand, before straightening back up. “Hellova tour guide,” she grumbled out, before dusting off her hands once more. Cracking her fingers, she continued after Cole in whatever direction he had gone. Her name being shouted back at her caused her to pick up her pace a little bit, but she also rolled her eyes. “Keep yer panties on Handsome, I’ll get there in a second.” Turning and finally managing to get to where he was, she flipped her ebony hair over her shoulder and came closer and closer.
She’d just gotten a glimpse of the symbols and lettering that were on the walls before she heard the groaning. Finally she could feel it beneath her, green eyes cutting toward where Cole was. “Son of a- Get yer ass movin’!” Turning on her heel, Fang took off back toward the ‘staircase’ that they had come from, but the shaking as the floor collapsed threw her to the ground. Swearing, she jumped to her feet in time to be knocked down again. Rolling to her knees, Fang balanced herself and watched the doorway disappear. Hell, the whole damned floor was giving out. “Oh hell,” was all the utterance that left her lips. If they survived this it would be a miracle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 1059 Muse:; Great! Rygdea fell in behind Alice as they advanced down the tunnel, ahead of Light who was content to bring up the rear of the group. For some reason he felt the need to keep an eye on Alice. He had known her for a little while now and although he liked her he certainly didn't trust her, especially when it came to not getting herself (and all the rest of them) into trouble. She had been in enough trouble herself when he had first met her. Once they came into a larger chamber he continued to follow Alice out of the corner of his eye as she wandered away to the far wall. However he was distracted as he turned his attention to whatever Fang and Cole were trying to do, since it seemed like the more dangerous thing happening right now. That was a mistake, but he was not to know that until it was too late. Alice had wandered back over to them already, but of course no sooner had Fang approached the dais did disaster strike. The entire floor began to give out, supports groaning as they began to give out under the pressure. Rygdea could hear supports as thick as trees snapping like twigs and tearing the room apart. This... was not going to end well.
However, for all his attitude and apparent laxity, Rygdea was still a military man and one of the best at that. In the moment that everything began to fall he had a few moments of clarity where most civilians would still be being running around and panicking. His options were limited. There was no use running for the door, he would never make it, but the roof above seemed to be holding firm, so Rygdea pressed another of the buttons at his wrist, aiming for the strongest wooden beam he could see and a piston fired out from the underside of his wrist, snagging the beam, trailing behind it coils of fine wire, thin and light, but stronger than steel. As the floor collapsed he threw his free arm out to Alice, who was closest to him, and managed to catch her around the waist as they fell, but the wire caught them short and they swung in midair as the rubble and the others tumbled down below. Lightning should be fine, she had her gravity device - just as long as there weren't spikes or some other nasty surprises waiting for them down there. This is why Rygdea had gone for the winch, it seemed the safest opinion at the time. Now to lower them down to safety.
"Y'alright there?" he asked Alice, in case she was freaking out about everything, as he slid them down the wire. It didn't quite reach the ground, but at least it was in sight, but there was no spikes to be seen. He didn’t see any of the others, but that did not mean they were not there, the dust was still settling from the collapse. Safe to attempt a landing, with the help of his own anti-gravity device. Lightning he was not worried about, but Fang and Cole... he was anxious to know that they were both safe. Particularly that sexy Pulsian huntress with the personality of a saber cat. He liked her a bit too much already to go losing her. Rygdea warned Alice of what he was about to do. "I'm gonna drop us now. Don't worry 'bout it. Just don't let go." Pressing the same button again, the piston popped off of the beam above and the wire retracted at great speed. Freed from their suspension, Rygdea and Alice began to fall, but he snapped his fingers and the usual anti-grav bubble appeared below them, slowing their descent until they softly reached the ground as though they had done no more than jump off a step. Alice's weight unbalanced him and he landed down on his hands and knees, but a dignified arrival was the least of his worries. Now, where were Lightning Fang and Cole? They were nowhere in sight, but the piles of rubble did obscure his vision. Getting to his feet, he put one hand to his mouth and called out, "Fang? Lightnin'? Cole?" Well hey, they'd just gotten in here and Cole already found something pretty interesting. Or...he assumed it would be interesting, once Fang could tell him what all these scribbles meant. Cole could only muster a sleepy smile at Fang's comment, wondering where in the world they'd dug up this woman, and how she and Rygdea were involved...and everything else about her, because about all he knew was what other people told him. They'd have to chat some later when they got the chance. Holding in a retort, he instead turned back to the mini-monolith and ran a hand along it to figure out what it was made of. Smooth, but thick. Definitely carved out of here on purpose. Cole could only guess what it was for until Fang reached him, leading him to step back a foot or two and give her some room to expect it. His eyes skimmed over the others in the room, who were tending to stick close to walls and crevices (which was a good thing in his experience), so he turned back to...stare at the back of Fang's head until she had something for him.
Then came the rumbling. Cole met Fang's gaze as soon as she looked back at him. As soon as he'd started to turn and make a break for the staircase that had provided their entry, the first loud crack sounded. The floor was going, and it was going fast.
"Shit, shit, shit! Run for the walls!", Cole yelled, barely able to practice what he preached. Every step he made was matched by a tilt of the floor, to the point that he had to reach for a crack just to keep himself from tumbling down. Judging by the fact that Fang was no longer beside him, she hadn't even gotten as far as he had. Seeing the opposite side of the floor plus Light, Alice and Rygdea slowly disappearing, Cole let himself slide down the huge chunk of floor far enough that he could reach Fang and keep her from getting crushed underneath pieces of floor, taking a swipe at her foot but only able to rake across it before losing his grip on her as well as his own footing at the same moment. As he had many times in similar situations, Cole resigned to the fact that he was going to die once everything finished falling apart. Didn't matter if it was a ten-foot fall or a hundred-foot fall or a ceiling fallling apart or whatever. Cole started sliding down the incline slowly at first, than more quickly when the entire floor broke off and smacked onto the next floor of stone below. He kept himself from being thrown forward and continued sliding until he hit something upright and flipped sideways. At that point, sliding wasn't going to work anymore, so Cole threw himself forward. Thank the gods the floor wasn't too far away, and Cole only bounced against the ground once before he smacked into a second human body and all momentum was stopped. Judging by the breasts, he supposed he'd probably found Fang.
"Son of a bitch," he said, through a groan, as he rolled off of Fang. "You alright?" The falling floor quickly settled in place aside from a few smaller pieces of debris rolling and falling nearby. Not that he could see them. Heck, he could barely see his hand in front of his face. Cole reached down in search of his groin light, but it was probably long gone. What else was long gone? The other three. Cole couldn't hear anyone but Fang in the room with him, and despite the light, he could tell by the heat of the room that it wasn't too big. Over the crackling of debris, Cole could hear an extremely muffled male voice, but couldn't make out a word he was saying. Perfect. All separated, without Cole knowing if everyone else was alright. This couldn't have gotten any better.
Cole turned his head to where he believed Fang was though he couldn't see her. "Stick close. We're screwed if we get separated," Cole mumbled to her, holding his arms out to feel the air around him. "There should be some sort of way out of here. There's a draft, you feel it?" Cole walked forward a few feet, hoping he wouldn't run head-long into Fang when he did so, feeling for the air around him again. "We gotta figure out where it's coming from."
Lightning stood in the back of the room near one of the walls, examining it and looking for anything that could hold some sort of ancient stories in some Pulsian writing that even she couldn’t understand, but nothing had really caught her attention though as she placed one hand on her hip, the other held the flashlight she’d taken from Cole. Frowning slightly after her warning to the group about watching themselves, she glanced over as Fang made her way to help Cole inspect something, letting Light go back to her own inspection. Or, at least she would’ve liked to go back to her inspection. Blinking, and feeling something was wrong, that premonition of hers, that ability to sense danger was skyrocketing. Her eyes instantly went to Alice, the red head whom she didn’t trust, it was like taking a child to a store, telling them not to touch anything, and what did they do? Tear the entire aisle apart bit by bit. That was Alice in Lightning’s mind. It was really tough to get on her good side, the majority of this group had the honor of being on Lightning’s good side, except for one unfortunate red head.
Hearing the whining from the supports beneath the floor they were standing on, Lightning whipped around as her eyes pierced through Alice, like daggers as she wanted to start shouting about how stupid and careless she was being, but there was no time for that. The floor slowly started to crumble, making Lightning ease her back into the wall as Cole shouted to get back towards the walls, which she had no problem doing since she was already there. Clicking the flashlight and quickly putting it in the pouch that was strapped to her leg, Lightning needed both hands just in case this got messy. As she gazed over towards Cole and Fang, it was soon that they were out of sight, and the floor just caved in. Snapping her fingers, a pink aura surrounded around the former military soldier as she grasped for anything against the wall, a small broken hole in the wall had worked for now, allowing her to catch herself there and press her feet against the wall to balance herself, holding onto the side of the wall with one hand as the floor crumbled to the next level. She could see practically nothing since there was no light, not even the pink aura around her body gave off much light.
As the silence settled with only a little bit of debris finishing their way to the ground, Lightning grunted a bit as she shifted herself from looking down at the ground to the wall she was clutching to, pressing her feet against the wall before jumping off and heading towards the ground easily. Her gravity device made it so she could land with ease, so once she hit the ground, the aura faded and instantly her eyes were looking for the others. In this darkness she couldn’t see much, and over the roar of the floor falling, she hadn’t heard much of anything else either, had someone tried to speak or yell, whatever it was they wanted to do. Once voice was clear as day and it caught her attention, at least she knew one person was okay. “Rygdea?” Lighting spoke more than questioned as she carefully pulled the flashlight from her pouch and clicked it back on again, shining it around before she caught sight of the brunette and the red head next to him. Scowling, she turned to gaze at the destruction. No sign of Fang or Cole, they must’ve gotten separated, or worse…someone could’ve gotten seriously hurt.
This was all Alice’s fault.
Old feelings stirred up within Lightning’s blood as she turned and even as she flicked the flashlight off, stuffing it between the straps of her pouch since she’d want it again shortly, she trailed across some small piles of rubble and watched her footing as her steps were tough, they made sounds and obviously could say she was mad, without her actually saying anything herself. Clenching her fists as she let her eyes adjust to pure darkness, she made out the figure that was Alice. Stepping up and not seeming all that pleased, Lightning reached forward and grasped the collar and front of Alice’s clothes, gripping them in her fist tightly as she tugged the girl a bit in frustration. “What did I say?! Does ‘be careful’ mean anything to you? When someone warns you not to touch anything, you DON’T. TOUCH. ANYTHING.” She hissed before releasing Alice and letting her stumble as much as possible. This was déjà vu, as if she were going head to head with Snow once more after Serah got crystallized. With a few deep breaths, Lightning turned away from Alice and Rygdea, but stopped. Thinking about Fang and Cole. She hadn’t heard a peep from them since the fall, causing her to fear for their safety, Fang was a good friend to her, a woman that had her respect for being so tough and unwilling to give up…if she was hurt…no, there was no ‘if’. Lightning was one for having a hot temper and letting the fists fly when that temper was exposed. Ask Snow, he’ll tell you the same thing.
Whipping around once more, pulling her fist back and letting it fly across Alice’s face, Lightning then pulled her fist back after the connection. It’d been a long time since she struck someone with a good old fashioned Lightning-Falcon-Punch. “Fang and Cole could be hurt! Or worse! Someone could’ve died, did that ever cross your mind, Alice?!” huffing and feeling the need to put a second strike in, Lightning just kept her fists gripped tight, her eyes never leaving the figure of Alice, wanting to just continue using her as a punching bag, and should the red head start to get mouthy…well, Light could not guarantee anyone’s safety. Kind of funny she was the only medic of the lot, yet she was the one hoping she broke some part of Alice’s face, or at least left a mark, a nice black bruise would suffice…for now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 1159 Muse: o.o great Tagged: Alice, Fang, Rygdea, Cole Wearing: Guardian Corps Uniform Listening To: Click Click Boom: Saliva Notes: She mad, everybody run! >>; (and huzzah! Still not moving, Alice cut her eyes at everyone in the room even though they might not have been able to see her. What she had just done had clearly been a bad idea. Alice accepted that. As she watched the group practically scatter she did not realize that the floor below her was moving as well, by the time Cole had let out warning, being in the middle of the room she had no chance. Dropping almost as quickly as she had stepped on the plate, her hand went to what ledge there was, which was about the size of a two by four, hitting her chin on the way down. Alice hung there as what support she had also started to give way. It was only when she lost her grip that she had felt someone grab her. Hearing Rydgea’s voice she gave a shake of her head not saying anything as she felt the line catch and it had come to its stopping point. Readying her feet as they landed on the bubble she soon felt her feet hit hard ground, but vision stinging as the dust settled in her eyes. “Thanks.” She said to him, as she brought a hand up to clear them, but soon felt other hands on her that were not Rygdea’s.
Hearing her voice she gave a light shake of her head, even in the dark she was practically yelling at her in the face. Alice spoke up then even while her collar was still being invaded. “Had you been payin’ more attention, it was not the whole me touchin’ ANYTHIN’ tha’ caused it.” She gave a small dark non-humorous laugh because Lightning was sure being serious. “It was my not’ paying attention that caused it, we all make’ mistakes Princess.” Alice said as she felt Lightning push at her letting go of her collar, causing her to stumble backward. Catching her balance it was only then when she felt a fist clash with the front of her face sending her doubling over on her knees. She did not need to see her nose to know that it was now broken, warm blood now pooling in her palms. “Son of a bitch!” The words flowed from her mouth as her eyes started to water greatly, and her vision now more blurred than what it had been before. The words coming from Lightning’s mouth she had just barely heard for the pain that shot up the bridge of her nose and around the back of her head.
Alice was about to advance on Lightning when she felt a hand on her arm grabbing it, she turned shooting a glare at Rygdea but let her advancement go as she stalled, “Well then how abou’ we go an’ find them, instead of you clockin’ me a good one? Cause clearly yer angry efforts need ta’ be put elsewhere.” Alice said clenching her jaw afterward, though this was a bad idea as well, for she had forgotten that her nose was just broken. Stepping backward away from the two Alice pulled off her bag off of her shoulders, sitting herself on one of the nearest rocks she could find. She then pulled off her top shirt laying it across her lap. Yeah Alice had just backed down from the beast below. That would be her new name for the woman that had just decked her in the face. Opening up the bag she pulled from it a water bottle and going to wet her shirt as she brought it up to her face, to at least clear away some of the blood that had gathered. Alice open and shut her mouth hearing the loud pop in her ears from where she had clipped her chin, only to now notice that she had bitten her tongue as well. “Fantastic.” She muttered as she took a drink from the water swishing it around in her mouth before spitting it directly in front of her.
Looking to her armband then to pull out a cure spell, she pressed a few buttons on it, then seeing that it was not working. Alice clenched her teeth, feeling them grit together as she took in a breath, placing the bottle back in her bag alone with the now wet and blood stained shirt. It was not clear as the dust had begun to settle that the blood had gone through her first shirt and was now on the second. Ripping the armband off of her wrist she tossed it in the air catching it again as she chucked it at the nearest rock, hearing the screen shatter. However Lightning had been right. Cole and Fang could have been hurt and they would not have known the wiser. It was then when it hit her as she stared at the crumbled rocks in front of her. That worry about them had begun to sink in. Sure she had just met Fang, but if Alice had caused death that would be a big problem, she was not out to harm anyone here, especially Cole. Now that was thinking a lot, but now she knew that she had gathered feelings for the appointed leader of this parade. Would she right out and say that? Hell no. The headache now settling in, Alice zipped up her bag and stood, looking to them both. She wanted to get out of here, now more than ever. “Let’s just be findin’ them, do what we came here ta’ do and get tha’ fuck out of here.” She said with a shake of her head, as it started to spin on her. That was her way of saying, ‘Yeah sure you just punched me in the nose, who gives a shit?.’ But now, Alice would put herself in the back of the flank from here on out, not wanting to cause any more damage than she already had.
Run for the walls? Hell, nice in theory, but the actual accomplishment of that was far harder then you would think. As the ground rumbled and bucked beneath them, Fang felt herself flung to her knees over and over. “Son of a bitch,” she muttered out again, keeping her hands on the ground so she could balance herself as the rocks below shifted and crumbled. The whole getting away thing was easier said then done, but hopefully Cole had at least reached safety. She might survive this, but she didn’t know just how strong he was. Really she knew nothing about him, so he could be killed for all she knew. Well, hopefully he’d live through this too, in her moment of ‘have a heart’ that she didn’t normally have. Keeping her intense green eyes down, Fang prepared herself. If she had more room, she would summon bahamut and keep both of their asses safe. Unfortunately, with the debris and the limited amount of space, bahamut wouldn’t even fit himself in here. After a moment head came up to see if Cole was somewhere to be seen. Instantly he seemed to be right there, trying to grab for her, before falling back. “Cole! Damn it,” she shouted, before rolling back to her knees and trying to locate them. Hell, they were in this together now. When it slammed into a lower level, Fang was jarred and thrown to the side like a rag doll. Catching a sturdy rock outcropping, she hung there, cursing, hoping again that she wasn’t going to find a dismembered body when this was all over with. If she even survived.
Another jarring knocked her loose and slammed her into the ground. With a ‘crack’ and shudder as it hit the floor beneath, Fang groaned slightly, lifting her head and starting to roll to get to her feet, when something heavy and warm fell on her. Blinking and trying to come back to reality from the ringing in her ears, Fang reached up to lay her hand on the object and ran into the solid chest of what had to be Cole. Grunting from the impact, she reacted instantly. “Get the hell offa me!”, came out sharply, hands reaching up to shove him off before he did so himself. Groaning slightly, Fang rolled over and onto her hands and knees, swearing under her breath, hearing his cursing as well. Hell, this was a situation to swear about, she didn’t care who you were. One onto her knees, Fang took only a moment before she was on her feet, pressing a hand to her side, which had been slammed up against some jagged rocks at some point. His question made her shrug, but then again, she couldn’t see a damned thing. “Hell if I know, I’m sure I’ll live. You still breathin’ handsome?”
Blinking, Fang narrowed her eyes in an attempt to see through the darkness. No such luck. And Cole didn’t seem to have his fancy dancy, new fangled light with him, or else she was sure he would have had it out. Her lance had come off at some point during the fall, and she cursed again, before bending over and starting to search for it. She’d be damned if she was going to leave her lance behind. The odds of her finding it had been slim, but thanks to Lady Luck, she did. Swinging her hands, she came in contact with the blade of the lance, realizing a moment before what it must be and jerking her hand away. Exploring hands then reached down to settle on the handle, before she pressed a foot against the rocks that were trapping it face up. Jerking and tugging, it finally came loose, and she explored it with her hands, trying to see if it was still in shape. Thankfully it seemed alright.
Now she could turn her attention on the other pressing matters. Retracing her steps carefully, she followed the sound of his voice as best she could, her own hands searching for him. After a few careful steps, her hands settled back against the same solid chest she’d felt before, and then dropped down to rest on her own hips. Were the others okay? Light would have lived. Knowing her, Fang never questioned that. Not only was she just too damned stubborn to die, but she had the strength and know how to stay alive despite what was happening. Rygdea…well hell, she didn’t want him to die. She would miss the banter and the tension that seemed to follow them everywhere. Still, despite that, she had a feeling that he would have survived as well. He was resourceful, and given a time to think, he could have probably made it out okay. That left…Alice. Fang didn’t give a damn if she was okay or not. It took a strong person to survive, and hadn’t been all that impressed by Alice. Not by Cole either at the start, but hell, he’d proven he wasn’t any cry baby, and he obviously was either too dumb or stubborn to die as well. “Yeah, stick together. Ain’ tha’ cute,” she muttered out, running a hand through her hair then, scrapping it back. Lifting her hand then, Fang remained motionless, feeling the air. “Yeah, I can feel her, I don’ really know if it’s comin’ from far above or from the side. We’ll hope Lady Luck is on our soide, an’ that it’s actually comin’ from somewhere close.” It was then her mind turned completely onto the situation they were in. What had caused the floor to collapse? Obviously it had to have been triggered, nothing so sturdy just crashed down without any reason. Lightning? The thought was dismissed from her mind instantly. Light knew how to handle herself, and was careful. Hell, she wouldn’t go poking her nose in places that would create this. Rygdea? Possibly, but he should know better too, damn it. This wasn’t a play pen to push buttons and see what the hell they did. “God damn her!”, was angrily spoken out. It had to be that damned red head that had done this. Just wait until she got her hands on her. Fang was going to throttle her for this, and throttle meant club her with a lance, punch her, or shove her down some dark hole. “Just wait ‘til I get my hands on ‘er.” It was a promise, not a possibility. She’d be damned sorry.
Rygdea was relieved to see that Lightning was indeed fine, although that didn’t solve the mystery of where Fang and Cole had got to. Simply separated? Or buried under 50 tons of rubble? Rygdea tried to convince himself it was only the former answer, but when Lightning started yelling at Alice for her negligence to their safety, he didn’t choose to intervene. In the end, she had done something wrong, and out of the two of them, Lightning seemed like she would be at the best at rebuking her over the issue. However, Alice was mouthy right off the bat and Lightning’s temperament was not built to withstand the redhead talking back to her. Rygdea almost felt a slight satisfaction in that punch - he was worried for the safety of the others as well, after all - but that was just childish. Giving Alice trouble for her mistake was fine, descending into a general brawl was definitely not. They didn’t have time for this right now. Stepping between the two women, Rygdea grabbed Alice by the arm to stop her advancing back on Lightning to retaliate, then he frowned at Lightning, giving her a reprimand with the tone of authority that a man only gained after being in command for several years, “Lightning Farron, you were once a Sergeant of the Guardian Corps. Behave like one.”
Rygdea knew fine well that Lightning had gone far beyond the military in terms of rank - guardian of Etro if you believed the tales, which he did - but for most of her life he had outranked her in the army, so if she had any respect left for that institution, then she would listen to him. Or at least, she might calm down enough to see that beating Alice to a pulp would accomplish nothing. He in no way meant to anger Lightning, simply talk some sense into her, hopefully she would recognise that. It had only been an accident, no matter what had happened, he didn’t believe there was any point in punishing stupidity. Malevolence or incompetence, yes, but stupidity was one of those recurring things that you couldn’t really beat out of someone. Although he might have to repeat that to himself a lot if anything really had happened to Fang and Cole, but for now, they had 3 people with them, there was no point pushing the odds against them any higher by eliminating one of the group. “If you would like to settle your differences with blows after we get out of this and find the others, that’s none of my concern, but I won’t have you both scrapping like wild dogs while Fang and Cole might need our help.” What authority did he make such a statement on? None really, his position carried no real weight with anyone here (with the possible exception of Alice - she did owe him for setting her free), but he was still a man and was not going to allow their escape to be hindered by squabbling and fist-fighting amongst each other. “If either of you need to scrap before we can check if our friends are still alive, then you can fight me. Now let’s go.” Alice had voiced similar sentiments herself, but Rygdea was not particularly in the mood to listen to them. He was not any more happy with Alice’s immediate mistake than Lightning was, the only difference being that he had a greater control on his own temper when it was not advantageous to him. If he had learnt anything from Cid Raines, it was that. It might not be a lesson he always managed to adhere to when his emotions really let fly, but he tried his best.
With his light back on his wrist again and the wire he had used to descend wrapped back away, Rygdea looked around the cavern they found themselves in. They were, essentially, stuck at the bottom of a vast hole. However, the rubble stacked up around them, obscuring any ways out for the moment. He strode off towards the nearest wall, his light pointing to different areas as he searched for any signs of a tunnel or door leading away from this chamber. After a minute he passed over an ormentally carved piece of stone and looked back, examining it more closely. “This is the top part of a door,” he said to the others. Rumble obscured most of the doorway, save for the top right corner. Climbing up the rubble, he looked through the small hole. There was a tunnel beyond, leading upwards. That seemed like a good start. The rumble was loose rocks, it could be moved, but it would take some effort. Rygdea looked to Lighting, taking her opinion somewhat more seriously than Alice's, “What do you think? Dig through here, or look for another way around?” WORDS; 814 TAGGED; Cole/Light/Alice/Fang MUSE; Good!
