Yeul, though perhaps slightly more knowledgeable with technology, was just as lost as her companion. She knew what the standard power button was, and yet...yet she had no idea what had gone wrong. Yeul had thought she knew how to turn this odd machine on to, but apparently she didn't. When she drew back to look at the screen, she saw not even a flicker of life. Usually there was at least a tiny flicker before it died if there were problems...right? Well it wasn't as if she was an expert, but that's what she would have thought. "Hmmm..." Yeul pondered over what to do next without really having any idea about it. They had to....had to...uh...oh dear. This was difficult. Ironic, that her biggest challenge in the warning Cosmos had given her about fitting in had come from a little television box. Noel's idea to give it a little tap seemed like a valid idea, since many of the appliances in the Dying World had needed a little extra...encouragement to work. Unfortunately, that hadn't worked either, and so they were back to square one. That, and Noel just might break it if he hit it any harder. It seemed like it wasn't that sturdy.
She was standing there with no real ideas until Noel spoke again. Glancing over at him, Yeul concentrated on everything he was saying. She hadn't really been given too much of an explanation on these different inventions, so his guess was probably more educated than hers, at least if Hope had tried to explain it to him. It all sounded complicated, even with her deeply thinking about his explanation. Because the entire explanation was somewhat out of her league, Yeul took a moment to think about it before she said anything. "That might work, we should at least try it." She watched him and stepped back when he lifted it and moved it around, her eyes shifting back to see if the screen would light up. She dropped down to her knees, a hand on his leg and leaned in with interest when he plopped down and clicked at the power button again. Again...nothing. Sitting back on her heels, Yeul furrowed her brow and sighed. "Well that just doesn't make any sense..." They had to be doing everything right! They had shifted it around, given it some encouragement and tried the power button. Wasn't that enough?
Well now she was thoroughly confused. Propping her hand up under her chin, Yeul thought about it for a moment before scooting past him, her face stuck close to the back while she looked at all the wires and such. "Maybe...these wires make it start?", she asked hesitantly, before she poked a wire that was freely flopping around into a random plug in and pressing the power button again. Nothing! Well this was just frustrating!
Nibbling on her lip and sitting back again next to him, Yeul raised her eyes to look at Noel. "Maybe...maybe you didn't move it the right way. Wouldn't the signals be floating around in the air? So then wouldn't we have to get it higher in the air?" Pushing herself off his shoulder lightly, Yeul shifted to the side where a large class case was standing beside a big sofa. It had to be a lot higher up than the previous stand, and it looked like the wires would stretch that distance. "Let's try putting it up here." Yeul clambered up on the sofa while she asked, picking all the items off the top and then tottering a moment on the sofa cushion, before half falling to get back down, landing on her butt on the sofa and scrambling slightly to get off. Good thing it was just Noel here to see her when she did that. Piling all the little items on the floor, she studied the glass case. "Do you think you can use the sofa? Or do you want a more sturdy chair?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 883 Muse:; Great! Tagged:; Noel Location:; Apartment Outfit:; Tribal Notes:; XD They really are. Noel could beat Caius Ballad in a duel, yet he couldn’t turn on one little tiny machine. Yeul hit the behemoth right on the head when she said it didn’t make any sense. Noel’s hand anxiously moved to rub at the back of his head, his mind straining to pull back one more little tidbit from Hope’s explanation of the television that could help Noel get this machine on so he and Yeul could actually see what was so great about it before they were a hundred years old…even if realizing that they both had a chance to be a hundred years old wasn’t a bad thing. Noel studied the girl at his side for a few seconds, trying to figure out what was going on behind her eyes as she studied the machine, because he was completely out of good ideas aside from figuring out that signal thing, and…well, he didn’t think that what he’d done had changed anything at all. They hadn’t even come any closer to getting the device running.
And then, Yeul was on the move. Noel leaned back a little to grant her passage to the back of the machine, easing himself over to her side and looking at the…things that she was inspecting very closely. Noel saw little…holes that looked like an insect’s eyes, all different colors and some of them with strange, thick-looking wires sticking out of them. There were also…ridges that looked like someone’s perfect little rows in a garden and…a few panels that looked like they would come off with a little coaxing. Essentially, it all screamed don’t touch me or I’ll break to Noel, but Yeul did have a good idea. He watched silently as she grabbed a wire that looked like it should have been in one of the strange insect-holes. Expectation again hung to Noel as she pushed it in and hit the button again. He leaned around the end of the television to look at the big blank screen again. Nothing. Not even a hint that they were getting closer to guessing right on how to activate it. A slight sigh of exasperation left his lips, as he leaned back again and drew his knees up closer to himself. ”What on Pulse does it want from us…”
He resumed staring at the wires, having the sudden desire to aimlessly rearrange them like some little board game from his more boring days in Paddra, before Yeul came up with a far better idea than his urges. The signals would be higher in the air…that did make perfect sense. Hope had said they came from some sort of…tower, and others from a sat…sat something that he’d explained was up high in the sky too. Content to be a prop for a couple of seconds to let Yeul rise to her feet, Noel shifted his gaze to look at the still-mesmerizing back of the machine before slowly pushing himself up to follow her. ”I sure hope they don’t make people stand in place and hold these things above their heads…that could get annoying really quick,” Noel commented a little absently, before Yeul pointed out a glass case that was up above them. Studying it for a few seconds, he nodded his head just as absently to show her that he agreed, though Yeul was already in the process of working on getting to it. Without even thinking about the need to do so, Noel stood beside the sofa, planning to make sure that Yeul didn’t fall off of it and hurt herself. She did fall once she got the items off of the top of the glass, though not towards the floor thankfully, only the end of the sofa. Noel let loose a few chuckles, grinning at her. Then, it was on to inspecting the way to get the television up onto the case. It was definitely high enough to catch signals that were up in the air…so, it was up there it would go.
Standing with his hands on his hips, Noel glanced between the sofa, the case, and Yeul as she spoke to him. ”I can get it up there with the sofa,” he announced with a touch of confidence, turning around to grip at the television as he had before and lift it up into his arms. ”Grab the wires for me so I don’t get tangled up?”
And with that, Noel raised his foot and planted it in the sofa that was still the softest seat he’d ever come across in his life, pushing himself up once he thought he had his balance. He wobbled for just a few seconds to make sure he had enough balance to start shoving the device above his head, and once he did, Noel started heaving the television up over his shoulders and in the direction of the glass case. And…just a little more….and it was up there! Secure? Maybe not quite, but it was at least in place and they could tell if it would come on or not.
Noel became aware of a small problem with that. ”Oops…”, he muttered, wincing a little at Yeul. ”The power button is on the other side of it…”
