"For the moment, yeah," Cole pessimistically answered Fang's question, brushing himself off. Yeah, they were up shit creek without a paddle right now on top of being blind. The amount of oxygen in this room wasn't going to keep them from suffocating on their own fumes for long. But Cole was completely jumping to conclusions. The good thing was, at least they wouldn't lose track of each other...and if there was a way out, they wouldn't have to waste much time in finding it. Cole reached out and ran his hand cautiously along the fallen floor. Okay, that was one wall. He moved a few feet to his right. Okay, another wall. He got distracted from his work by some sort of horrible work Fang was doing elsewhere in the room. "Fang?", he asked the darkness, once, before he figured she was doing something odd with the lance she'd been wearing and continued on looking for the next wall. Before he got there, though, he reunited with Fang's invisible form. "It'll be cute if one of us ends up out of here while the other rambles around in the dark for the next month with no food," he chimed back, scratching his elbow. Now, for the actual getting out of here.
The draft Cole could feel was pretty obvious, but what wasn't obvious was the direction of it. The falling floor had completely disrupted whatever natural flow of air had been occurring before, so now the warm air that resulted from the newly-shaped size of the room was screwing up the air flow. Cole listened for a whistling to assist them in finding the source of the air, but couldn't hear anything. Apparently, the hole from which the air was coming hadn't been covered in debris. Good thing. Cole nodded at Fang's words about luck absent-mindedly, forgetting she couldn't see him, and went on about his searching, making sure his footsteps were heavy so Fang could hear him and follow. He moved off one direction he thought the air was coming from...then slowly started in another...then doubled back on himself, having to pick his way around Fang as he did so. Her exclamation to damn her...Alice, probably...caused him to stop and wheel around before he actually processed what she said, and he let out a sigh at the false alarm. Heck, he thought Fang was being eaten alive there for a second. He didn't bother saying anything to her, though, at least not until he'd crouched down by the wall and started feeling for the air. "You can beat on her all you want to once we're out of here....and we will be in five....four....three....two........one..."
With every number of the countdown, Cole came a couple of feet closer to finding their source of air. He had to pause before he reached the last one, reaching up high and he could just...barely....perfect. "Got it!", Cole reported, proudly, able to get his index and middle finger over the lip in the wall that was producing the air. "I can't tell how big it is, but...it's pretty high on the wall," Cole released it and stood back about a food, eyes turning to where he thought Fang was based on the sound of her breathing. "I'm gonna have to give you a boost...in the dark. Yeah, this won't be an easy exit," Cole said with a sigh. And they would do all this without even knowing if the hole was large enough just yet. Cole put his hands on his hips and let his shoulders droop with another, louder sigh...that was cut off almost as soon as he'd released it.
Growling. There was a growling somewhere behind them. Cole whirled to see...but obviously, he couldn't see. The growling seemed to be at least a ways away from them...but honestly, he couldn't tell one way or the other. A growling creature in a completely dark room? Hell to the no to that situation. "Okay...now it's really time to get out of here," Cole informed Fang, before turning and easing his back up to the wall. This was going to go miserably, but maybe more incentive to get the hell out of here and away from invisible things that growled would provide them with some speed and skill. "Find me and I'll give you a step up...just don't step on the face." Though he supposed getting it stepped on was better than having it ripped to shreds by whatever had just revealed itself to them. ...But only slightly.

The look on Lightning’s face was far less than pleased. She had her fists gripped tight, scowling, almost seething at the red head in the dark. She so badly wanted to launch herself at the girl and just start hitting away. Rarely did Lightning ever feel that angry, normally a punch or angry stares would suffice, along with silence, but right now, her patience had been thrown through the roof and she was ready to bail. She couldn’t leave the others behind though, Cole, Fang and Rygdea…they were all in this together, though only two were current L’Cie, it was still something Lightning had committed herself to. Besides, she was also the only medic, so should something happen if she bailed, she would feel guilty in the end. She wasn’t as heartless as people seemed to think. “Had I been paying more attention? I’m not your damn babysitter, Alice.” She scowled in a dark tone before the ‘Princess’ remark only made her frown more, her knuckles purely white under her dark navy gloves, ready to strike at the girl’s face.
And that’s exactly what Lightning did.
Unlike Snow, Alice got the blunt of a fist to her fast. Lightning usually hit Snow in the side of the face, not wanting to crush his nose into his skull or anything, but Alice…ha, she nailed the red head square in the face and could feel the crunch of her nose from beyond Light’s knuckles. Pulling her fist back and starting to rage even more, Light kept her fists tightened, her teeth gritted tightly, ready to raise her fist and strike her good again, but Rygdea stepped in, and perfect timing as well. Still feeling her fingers tight into a fist, she lowered her fist to her side and pulled herself out of an aggressive stance, outstretching her fingers was hard to do when you really wanted to ‘clock someone good’, but she managed just fine before huffing, Rygdea’s words getting through her stubborn skull and causing her to take a breath to relieve herself of all that built in anger she’d wanted to clobber Alice with. “Tch.” She simply responded with rolled eyes as her arms went across her chest, figuring now would be the best time to be childish and ignore the red head for the rest of the trip. If she got in any more danger, don’t expect Lightning to lend a hand and do any healing, that was as cold as she was going to get, if it was possible to be any more cold towards the red headed troublemaker.
“Fine.” She mumbled low under her breath before taking a few steps, walking past Alice and not regarding her existence whatsoever. There was no need to anyways, there were far more important things to take care of, like finding Fang and Cole alive and well. It was hard to imagining a strong Pulsian huntress like Fang getting hurt, or a man like Cole being taken down by a caving in floor. Shaking her head, Light dismissed the negative thoughts that had entered her mind, she wanted to think of them as safe, and if they needed aid…they really did need to hurry. Pulling the flashlight up into her hand and clicking it back on, Light began to scan the surrounding area with a bit more seriousness, looking for where they could exit, or any signs of their allies. Turning in a circle, she didn’t see much for a clear exit, but what Rygdea had found, she saw was their only chance at getting out of here without having to break through walls…which didn’t seem possible with the strength of the stone. Flashing her light at the small opening at the top as Rydgea asked her opinion, she pressed her free hand to her chin before taking a few steps on the rubble. “It seems to be our only way out. If we can knock a few pieces off for us to crawl through, maybe we’ll find the others on the other side.” Not that it really answered the question, but sure enough, her next statement did.
“Get digging.”
Lightning clicked off her flashlight as she neared the top of the pile of rubble, keeping clear from Rygdea so she could try and get a few pieces of the rubble off with her feet before getting her gunblade out and prying pieces away like a crowbar. The more they got rid of, the easier it would be to squeeze through and go searching for Fang and Cole. Moving some pieces, hearing them crumble to the ground, Light felt a small cool breeze coming from the slightly larger opening. “We’re getting there, slowly but surely. If we can get a bit more off the top, it should be plenty large enough for us to get through.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 917 Muse: Great! The Guardian Corps, she thought that that uniform of Lightnings look familiar. She had just not put two and two together yet. ‘And thank Etro for that.’ was what she wanted to say, but kept her words to herself for now. Sitting down on the rock that she had so graciously made loose from the floor in her feeble attempt to just be curious, she took in a drink from her canteen. It was bad enough that she now had a headache and everything around her seemed to be spinning, but now that she reaped the consequences of her actions there was nothing more for her to do. Wiping away the last of the blood from her face, or what she could feel anyway, she stuffed all of her things back into her bag. Yeah yeah, brawling, it was not the time for it, but Lightning sure seemed to think so, so Alice would reciprocate by thinking the same thing. But of course she also knew that when they met back up with Cole and Fang that they would have another fight to break up. By they she did not know what she meant, but she was sure that neither of them would be happy and that someone would not break it up at all. All in all, Alice was screwed and she knew it.
Listening to the Captains words she with a great feeling that everyone was now against her even more so than that of her driving skills, she stood up to help them dig. And once she could see the sun, or the moon again she would leave the little crew to piece together what they had found, if they had found anything between now and the time that they got out of here. As Lightning said that if they could just get a little more off the top, Alice looked around for some type of foot hole that was not the rubble. Upon finding a stable one to climb on she continued to climb, until she was at a safe position to kick in the wall, hell she had already caved the floor in, what else could she screw up? Gripping at the ledge, or what ledge there was, she kicked at the loose wall on top of the rubble with both of her feet. She was not into asking permission right now, nor did she care for that matter. With the hole now created in the wall Alice looked down to them, “Come on, times a wastin’.” She said with a shake of her head as she swung down to the other side.
Peering around the room that she was now in, Alice would back off now. It was her place to do the more simpler jobs, like kicking in stone that was a million years old, or fighting something, or making floors fall in. Ok Alice stop it, yeah sure you screwed up, but they might not crucify you for it if you start acting like a normal person and not screwing up everything thing you touch. And she thought was a decent way to start looking at things. With a shake of her head to herself as she waited for them to come through the hole. This was going to be a long trip back, and here she was thinking that this was going to be a simple trip, boy was she wrong. Or she had just made it more complicated than it needed to be. Moving forward in the room with very much caution she looked around. The room was rather large but it seemed to be empty as well, but for some reason Alice got the feeling that something was about to happen, but that hole was their only way out, this was their only way out.

While wiggling her lance and trying to free it from it’s prison, Fang heard Cole questioningly acquire about her and grunted in response, though she was too busy focusing on getting her weapon out to pay him much attention. When she finally did though, she yawned and rolled her shoulders, completely relaxed and ignoring that they could have just been crushed under tons of rock. It was only after freeing her lance that she answered him. “Wha’s up handsome?”, she asked out, feeling around to make her way back to his side. She didn’t know him all that well, didn’t know if she’d like him at all or if he was a good guy to have with her in this situation, but even she realized that it was better to stick together. The gang should damn well be proud of her. She’d learned at least one thing on their long voyage together. Bumping into him with her hand, Fang stood by him, poised yet relaxed, unable to stop the smirk that came onto her lips when he sassed her right back with his cute schpeal. This guy wasn’t half bad…not half bad. “I ‘ave Lady Luck on moy soide, so I’d get out an’ yer ass would be stuck ‘ere fer the next few months.”, she teased him.
When he left, she found herself following. This wasn’t something she was used to, following someone else’s lead, but hell, there were first times for everything. Besides, it didn’t seem like he was the incompetent type that would get them killed instantly. She could have his back, and he had been right in his sarcastic comment about one of them getting out. It would be a damned shame to get split up and one of them end up starving to death down here. A damned shame. Keeping her ears open, Fang grumbled about the lack of lighting and wished he had that fancy light thing he’d had before. That would be handy right about now. Too bad he didn’t have it. Probably crushed underneath the same rocks they could have been crushed under. He made enough noise. Etro sake, did he want to wake the dead? After her cursing about Alice, Fang forced herself to lighten up, cheerful that he had given her the permission to beat on her. “Ya make enough noise fer a behemoth, ya know tha’? An’ I will probably beat ‘er, if Loight hasn’t already. Ya’ll think she can keep up tha’ controlled act, but ya’ve got a lot ta’ learn about ‘er.”
When he triumphantly stated that he had found the air draft, Fang smiled, but turned her back toward him, scanning the area – despite being unable to see- and made sure that it was all alright. She would leave the checking out work to him, she had his back while he did so. Standing with arms crossed, she blinked and looked left and right, checking here and there, before she finally answered him. “Noice job there Handsome. Let’s jus’ hope it actually leads ta’ somewhere, ya know?” A boost? Well, she could handle that. Nodding towards him, –like Cole, forgetting that it was dark and he couldn’t see her- Fang made her way closer toward him, until she was right there beside him, ready to get this over with and hopefully have a way out of here. Turning to try and find the hand up he was offering, Fang heard the growl just as clear as he did. “Oh shit,” came out under her breath, before she made the last few feet to his side. She felt the urge to stand and fight whatever the hell was making the noise, but she knew that would probably end badly with no lighting.
“Yer face’s already messed up,” she shot out at him, before scrambling to find the hands he had linked together for her. Placing her sandaled foot into his linked hands, she felt him give her a boost a moment later. Jumping, Fang hoped she found something. In the dark, hands frantically searching, she finally settled onto a ledge above them. Clinging to it, she swore and grunted when she pulled herself up the rest of the way, rolling over. Whipping out her lance, Fang slammed it down, wedging a crack into the rocks to secure it and wrapped her heels around it, body over the edge slightly, reaching her arm down to give him a hand up. “Cole! Get that ass up ‘ere now. Gimme yer hand.”, she urgently spoke out, waving it around and trying to reach him. Curse the darkness. “Ya gonna stand there all day an’ look pretty before ya get eaten?!”

Rygdea nodded at Lighting and started moving rocks himself, picking them up and throwing them back down the slope behind him. He didn't talk, he just wanted to get the doorway cleared in as quick a time as possible and get moving. He was anxious for Fang especially, even though he tried to be blazè and tell himself she was tougher than he was and she'd be just fine, he wouldn't be satisfied until he saw her with his own two eyes. Fang might be tough, but tough didn't help much if a two-ton slab of rock came down on your head. L'cie or not, they were still mortal humans. At that point Alice kicked through what was left of the loose rubble at the top of the door frame and slipped through to the other side. Rygdea indicated to Lightning that she should go next, before kicking the hole a little wider to let his own muscular frame fit through. The room they found themselves in was dark, but fortunately Rygdea and Light both had torches. Rygdea wondered if Fang and Cole were stumbling around in the dark. Hopefully Cole had managed to hang onto his torch in the fall.
Pointing his torch at the walls, he saw they were inscribed with symbols, ancient Pulsian lettering by the looks of it, but Rygdea wasn't familiar with it. Certainly not familiar enough to make sense of the words surrounding them. Damn this was frustrating, this was probably exactly what Cole was looking for, but both he and Fang were in the other party. Rygdea suddenly wished he had been more serious about learning Pulsian script. He had started since he arrived on Pulse, but work had taken up his time and he had only advanced so far. He could read basic sentences, but this decorated old-timey script? No chance. He made out the phrase "mighty God Pulse", mostly because it seemed to be written in the stone-etching version of block capitals, and the words for "time" and "gate". Then he felt like he was going to get a headache. "We need to remember this place," Rygdea said to the two ladies beside him, "I think Cole an' Fang will want to look at it when we find them. I'd hate to have gone through all this trouble for nothin'." Directing the light from his torch up the tunnel, there was clearly still only one way to go. "Just watch out for traps." An inaudible 'Alice' seemed to add itself onto the end of that warning. They all knew it wasn't Lightning he needed to remind about being careful.
Rygdea was starting to think very carefully about fulfilling his focus now. It was one thing to be looking for answers, but on the first day of their expedition they had almost been killed. In fact he still didn't have proof that two of them hadn't. They really needed to all have radios, although that could only help so much. The signal might not carry through 300 tons of solid rock. The point was, getting killed was not a better alternative than doing his focus and finding portals. That said, he would continue with the expedition all the same. He'd promised to come, he wasn't going to leave Cole hanging out to dry, and you never know, they might just find what they were looking for. But it was always good to have a plan B.
The corridor turned and the path divided into 3. One led down, one straight on a flat plain, one led up. There were horrible chittering sounds faintly sounding out of the downwards stairs. It sounded like creatures of the Pulsian dark that Rygdea was in no rush to become acquainted with. The temptation was to head up, but dashing to the surface and possibly leaving Fang and Cole behind didn't seem very chivalrous of them. There were 3 of them and 3 tunnels, but the idea of dividing themselves further seemed just stupid. Rygdea wished, again, that Fang and Cole were here. They'd probably be more informed as to the layout of these ruins. "Why don't we go forward?" Rygdea questioned, after pondering for a moment, "If we find nothin' we can turn an' go up." In all honesty, Rygdea did not like being underground. He was not exactly claustrophobic, but the walls leant in on him and he was very aware of the enormous weight of rock above his head. However, he was nothing if not brave, so he would stay down here as long as it took to get Fang and Cole safely reunited with the rest of the group. Cole wasn't the biggest believer in not getting everyone out of the collapsed chamber when he had the chance to, so he could only smirk and shake his head when Fang made another mention of Lady Luck getting her out of here. Yeah, if it was up to Lady Luck, Cole would have died in that collapse with the way his fortune had been lately. So, yeah, getting them both out of here without much luck involved was the name of the game for right now and was exactly why Cole dug around for them a way out. To the tune of rambled cursing about Alice, of course. Lightning beating on people? Yeah, he could see it, because he'd seen her fight. But Light had that "I'm not stupid enough to screw everyone over just because I'm pissed about something" thing going on, it seemed to him, so if the others were all grouped together he didn't think she'd be putting Alice in a death lock or anything of the sort. Well, not until they got out of here. Then they could do whatever the heck they all wanted to each other. Right now, though, they needed a little solidarity among them. It sounded like a good thing Fang didn't have her hands on the redhead...
And then he found their way out...hopefully. So maybe some good news would avoid any beatings once they all got back together. If they all got back together. Fang's comment had merit, but as usual, Cole had to make at least partial light of it. "Well, it'll lead somewhere. Not necessarily anywhere we want to go," he said, looking up at the spot he found as if he could actually see it. "But somewhere has to be better than here."
And on cue, the growling. Cole audibly groaned.
But even in the worst of situations, Cole could put out a line. "Then I think you have some confusion about the word handsome," he said, grunting out the last few words as he felt Fang planting her foot in his hand and he made a smooth motion to boost her up. She apparently found her hold. He felt her pulling up and away and lowered his arms, taking a quick breath. The growling continued...and now, even over the sounds of Fang apparently scraping her lance against the rocks above, Cole could hear the mysterious creature pacing all too close. "Please tell me it's gonna work up there," Cole said anxiously and loudly enough for the brunette to hear, but not loud enough to spook the creature to action. When Fang said for him to get his ass up there, he wasn't about to have an argument for the proposition. Spinning around, he took a couple of steps back to give him enough space to jump and rushed forward, hearing the creature's growls turn into an all-out roar. This was gonna be hard in the dark...really hard really hard....
He jumped and planted a foot into the wall to give him some sort up upwards momentum, reaching a hand out to try and find Fang's own. He missed with the first swipe. The second, though, caught her wrist full-on. Cole did his best to give her help pulling up, putting both feet in the wall and finding the lip of the crawl-through. He pulled himself up with the help, able to hear the creature clawing against the wall just beneath him. Getting up wasn't the totality of the problem, though. They still had to find a way to maneuver themselves so they could both fit in and get their bearings. "I got it...back up," he told her, through partially gritted teeth, before he pulled in his upper body far enough that he could just lie half-inside and stop straining. Yeah...rest. He'd just rest here, in the dark, with a woman who carried a lance and with a creature literally nipping at his heels. Yep, five seconds of rest...he'd take them.

With the pile of rubble slowly coming downwards, Lightning stopped for a brief moment to notice Alice kick in the weak wall with her feet. Lightning was good to keep herself from exploding, giving her redhead an evil look as she was facing her back. Shaking her head and sighing, exhaling a deep breath that calmed her nerves, she simply trailed along inside the next room, glancing from Alice to Rygdea and from him to the path ahead. They were set with an ultimatum. Whether they were to go forward, down deeper into the ruins or up higher and possibly finding an exit. Pointing her flashlight to the forward path, Lightning took the lead and started her stride. She wanted to find Cole and Fang alive and soon, so the faster they moved the less time those two would spend on their own. As she stepped along the path, Alice in tow, but Rygdea had his gaze on some ancient words written on stone. Turning around and hearing the path beneath her start to crack, the pinkette gasped and looked to the ground, seeing distinct cracks in the thousands of years old floor. Ugh, not good!
“Rygdea!” she called over the cracking but there just wasn’t a chance of him catching up, the floor was crumbling right where the former soldier was standing. She had to take steps back as the path crumbled downwards, the ceiling going with it and blocking off the path. “You guys go on ahead, I’ll meet ya out of ‘ere!” she heard the faint call from Rygdea, it sounded slightly panicky but who wouldn’t be panicked. As Lightning skidded to a stop to where the floor had stopped collapsing, leaving her and Alice in a narrow hallway, she took a deep breath, her flashlight looking at the pile of rocks and debris that blocked them from their ally. He would be okay, he would go up and out of the ruins, Rygdea would survive, of that Lightning was sure. Forgetting about her anger with Alice for the time being, Lightning turned to the redhead, her expression serious, dead serious. “Looks like it’s just us from here.” She said before taking the lead again, starting off without a glance behind her. “Rygdea will be fine. We’ll find Cole and Fang and be out of here in no time, just keep your eyes open for anything and everything.” She advised, hoping the other unnecessary tool – much like herself – could do that.
The ruins were dark, and now that they were down a light, Lightning was more hesitant about where they were going. She occasionally hit her boots against some large rocks on the ground, nearly toppling over, but instead caught herself, wishing she had a bigger and brighter flashlight on her. Keeping quiet, she heard the whining of stone again, just as it had been when the floor was collapsing, but it was a heavier sound, as if the path that started to crack wasn’t finished. Turning around, she pointed her light back the way they had come and frowned. She saw the crack in the ground simply following them wherever they were standing in this narrow hall. Apparently their combined weight on the fragile ground was too much for the structure to take. Taking swift steps that led to a light jog, she started forward again, seeing the entrance to a new room ahead that looked to have a more solid ground on it, if she and Alice could get there without dying, then that was another job well done. “Come on!” she hollered for Alice, running as fast as her legs would take her, the ceiling caving in as she prodded the girl in front of her faster by gently pressing her back some to get her to pick up the pace. If anything, Lightning would be the one squished first if it really came down to it.
At the last moment though, Lightning could see the ceiling ahead start to crumble. With a gasp, knowing they’d be dead meat if she didn’t do something, Lightning took an extra large step forward, grasping the back of Alice’s shirt and practically throwing her forward and out of the way of the collapsing rocks, once that was said and done, Lightning leaped and flipped herself forward, her cape snagging on the rocks that fell, tearing as she rolled over a bit, feeling the aches and pains on her body already. With her palm pressed flat onto the ground, she gritted her teeth, moving her shaky right hand to her chest she grabbed around for her flashlight, pointing at her palm where a sharp fragment of a rock had entered her skin. “We…need to keep moving before the rest of this place collapses on us.” She said, still laying on the ground before slowly getting to her feet, cradling her hand near her stomach and chest, still shaking as she looked to Alice. “You alright?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 941 Muse: Great! Once on the other side, she then took into consideration that it was not any better than the other side. But it was the fact that they were moving on through the caverns that kept her going. She arched a brow at Rygdea as he stalled looking at the ancient stuff written on the wall. She peered over his shoulder to get a small look at what was there, as if etching it in her brain as he spoke. She stepped to the side again closer to Lightning looking at the rest of what was written, but it was now hard to concentrate when the ceiling was now coming down again. She clenched her fists as she jumped to clear the first wave to where Lightning was. Sliding under the last bit of falling rock she heard Lightning call out to Rydgea, “Damnit!” She said as she stood. Hearing his voice, at least he was ok even though the slightly panicked voice. She brought a hand to her forehead shaking it. Turning to look back to the pinkette she gave her a nod of her head. “Lead tha’ way.” She told her in all respects as she pulled a hand out behind her.
Moving about the narrow hallway she followed Lightning, about to say something to her but then hearing the floor crackle at her feet, “Ohh you’ve got to be kiddin’ meh!” She was the only that came from her mouth. She gave a dart and started running down the hall. Pushing her legs to move faster in the dark she had no idea what lay ahead, or even if there was floor on her next step, which made her move a tad slower. She then felt a light shove on her back but she was still a bit hesitant about where she was stepping. Jumping to clear lose debris in her way, she gripped at the cantina strap around her chest, she dropped her bag free from her shoulders so she could run a bit faster. But not fast enough for the pinkette, and clearly not fast enough to save her own skin. It was then when she felt a hand gripping on her own shirt. Losing her balance as she was flung forward. The low beam in her midst that she had managed to dodge, too close for comfort, as she twisted her back so to avoid it. It was the next one she did not avoid.
Jumping again to push herself the last distance, she felt contact, against the side of her face. As if she had been punched again by the wild soldier running next to her, but the force had jolted her so that she spun around in a circle hands going instantly to her head. “What the fuck?!” She let out before even thinking about it. She fell over then, giving another few choice words under her breath. The coldness of the rock below her sent a chill up her spine, blinking rapidly to regain her self. She turned over and sat up slightly sitting there for a small moment. Once that was done, she stood again, out of breath as she bent over now hands going to her knees. The side of her face bleeding more than her nose had been, that headache coming back instantly. She looked down to Lightning as she spoke, “Yeah, righ’ o’ course, before more collapsin’.” She retorted blinking her eyes a few times to adjust to her vision again. The pure adrenaline caused her not to faint from the rock blow to the head. Not looking up as she asked if she was ok, “Yeah yeah, I’ll live. And thank’s fer tha’ by tha way.” She said with a small laugh that come from her lungs, referring to the part where Lightning had flung her from being crushed by the falling rocks.
Standing straight up then she looked to Lightning then, “And you?” She questioned. Things could have gone much worse, how she did not know, even if she did she would not speak of them. Pushing back the hair that was in her face now she looked down the narrow path again, hearing a faint roar come from behind her. It did not sound like a pleasant roar at that. She turned to look back at Lightning, “Well that’s jus’ great, what else could I piss off today?” She questioned herself more than anyone. Little did she knew that that roar was already threatening some other people. Pointing in front of her now and past Lightning, “Yeah you are righ’. Best be gettin’ a move on before it decides to show its’ ugly face.” She remarked with a shake of her head, as she waited for Lightning to take the lead again.

Fang was all of a sudden glad that it was Cole that she had been stuck with after that damned redhead had pulled that stupid move and had the floor collapse under them. Of course, out of the possible options, she wouldn’t have minded getting stuck with any of the three that weren’t the woman. Then again…she could have obliterated her and no one would have known the difference. So-…well, she probably shouldn’t think any more of those thoughts with some beast in the dark sharpening its fangs to try and eat them. Yeah…okay so first propriety wasn’t punching some stupid woman right now. …Later.
Right now, what she had to do, was get her ass over to Cole and get a hand up and get his sorry carcass up there and rescue them both. Almost running into Cole, Fang’s hands came down to find his linked together. A second later she stuck her foot in and felt herself be pushed upward. She would have made some retort about his handsome, but she was too busy scrambling to find something to hold onto so that they could get the hell away from whatever it was that was trying so hard to eat them. As far as she knew-…well, they could just say that Fang would rather not be any lunch for some hungry beast, and she was sure that Cole would rather not as well. Managing to find a place to grab onto, she clung there for a minute before she pushed herself up and rolled over the edge. Instantly she was getting herself ready to haul Cole’s ass up behind her, slamming her lance down and wrapping her feet around it as an anchor. Leaning practically all the way off the ledge, Fang held her hand down. “It’d better work, damn it. I just hope ya’ can jump pretty boy, because you’d better be doin’ some jumpin’ now.”
“Shit,” was uttered from her lips when the first swipe didn’t connect, but he managed to get it on the second, her own hand tightening around his wrist and arm with an iron grip. Fang was getting his sorry ass dragged up there if it was the last thing she did. “What’dya do for a livin’? Eat?”, she puffed out then, before pushing herself up and to her knees. She could tell he was trying to help as much as possible, but she would be doing the grunt work here. Grunting out lightly, Fang managed to get her feet unwound and centered onto the ground, before pulling with all her might, wrapping both hands around his arm and yanking him up. Thankfully, the doughnuts he must eat on a regular basis didn’t deter her, and they both ended up flopped onto the ledge.
Acknowledging his words with a small grunt, Fang rolled away from him, pushing herself into the small tunnel that came out of the rocks and then leaned back against her elbows, head cocked back. “Ya sure do pick the worst places ta’ go an’ get us into, ya know tha’ Cole? Hell, I think ya rather loike this whole woild an’ bat-shit crazy loife.” Eying the figure that she knew was there but couldn’t see across from her, Fang took in a few steady breaths and placed a hand against her head. Damn, but this was the exciting life. Very…very exciting. Hell, Fang hadn’t had this much excitement since they’d been saving Cocoon from its fate. Rolling around and onto her hands and knees, Fang reached a hand forward, feeling her way ahead of her. “I wonder where this goes. Ya ready ta’ check ‘er out Handsome? Or ya’ need a few more minutes ta’ rest tha’ saggy ass of yers?”

"Less talk, more pull!" was all Cole could muster himself to say as he did his damn best to get up onto the ledge without having Fang break her back or end up being pulled out and on top of him. Oh, and he didn't want to get eaten by monsters of darkness and doom, either. Cole was pretty darn sure that if he felt anything so much as breathe on his legs, he was going to suddenly become the strongest man alive and heave himself up onto the ledge by some mysterious power. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately for Fang), that never happened, and after a fair bit of straining and struggling he had joined Fang in a a heap at the top of the ledge, both of them trying to find enough room enough not to kick or punch one another in the top of the head. But, hey, they were up and in the place they needed to be. Cole could hear some growling and slobbering going on down below, but unless dog-things or whatever that was after them had suddenly grown suction cups or something on its feet and learned how to climb walls, they were perfectly safe up here. Well...as safe as two people in a teeny tiny pathway inside of a ruin that was slowly falling apart could be. All of a sudden, he didn't feel quite so comfortable.
So he shifted, trying to get himself back up into a seated position, though his height was just enough to make his head bump against the top as he tried to prop up. "...Perfect," he said under his breath to himself, before his eyes were brought up to where Fang should have be- wait, he could see her a little now. At least, the outline of her. Apparently, there was some kind of very faint light coming from somewhere on the other end. He could figure out what it was...in a second. "Oh yeah, it's fantastic. I love almost getting eaten while wandering around in the dark. Don't know how I'd live without it," he responded to her, sarcastically, as he tried to shift himself into a position to lean past her and figure out if there was anything to see at the far end of the little tunnel. As he did just that, he kept speaking. "It'd be just fine with me if you could find some way to blame Alice for our being in here, too. Talk about bat-shit crazy." Nope, it wasn't Alice's fault in particular that they'd been forced in here, but if that's what Fang wanted to believe then...great for her.
Cole was recovered enough to be ready to leave once Fang got up and started feeling her way forward, so he would have recommended they get going before Fang did if he hadn't suddenly wondered about their arrangement in the tunnel. "Let's not do too much talking about asses right now," Cole responded, looking at everything but the woman getting ready to crawl along directly in front of him. "Or this gets reaaaaally awkward. Or not awkward. I don't know you well enough yet to say which one." But, yeah, they needed to get moving. "Let's go. There should be a light source somewhere we can judge by if we have any branching paths. The light has to mean something good, so it shouldn't hurt to head straight towards it." Unless it was lava or something else really hot and really deadly. But, yeah, that would almost be better than being cooped up in here...view or not.

Well, this just went to show that Lightning really did have a heart. She wasn’t as cold as ice as many seemed to think, it was just difficult for her to tolerate certain people in certain situations. Who could blame her though? Easily though her concerns for Alice were long gone, replaced by the concerns of her friends, even concern for Rygdea! Shaking her head as she had a moment to relax, Lightning clutched her hand close to her stomach and chest as she carefully cast a bit of cure magic towards it, healing the wound for now, but it would still prove to be a disturbance in the future, at least so she thought. Turning slightly, Lightning wasn’t one for sentimental thoughts or words, but she gave the redhead a small nod. “You’re welcome.” She mumbled in a low tone before facing the narrow path ahead, knowing they needed to continue onwards to find Cole and Fang, she could easily take the lead and find them…they couldn’t be too far now.
Hearing the faint roar within the room, Lightning furrowed her eyebrows and gazed at the path ahead where the sound seemed to be coming from. Listening to Alice, Lightning rolled her eyes slightly before trudging off forward, heading down the path with that soldier stride she held onto so well. She wasn’t running away from whatever beast lay ahead, after all, if it was after anyone, it’d be Cole and Fang, Rygdea was behind…thus it couldn’t be him, it was the only logical answer she could come up with. This was the direction they needed to go anyways, it wasn’t like there was much of a choice. So, to fight and find their friends they went, Lightning leading the way with her flashlight now out and dimly lighting the path, it was nearly dead with as many hits as she’d taken thus far, being thrown around in these ruins like it was nobody’s business, the sooner they find what they came for, the better…if there was anything to find.
Continuing forward in the narrow hall – where it got darker and darker due to the dying flashlight – Lightning kept quiet, and surprisingly Alice did too it seemed. The pinkette didn’t have to tell her to be careful, after all they’d been through thus far you’d think she would’ve gotten the message to be careful. After a few minutes of walking around in the near complete darkness, Lightning stopped her stride, placing a hand on her hip and whacking the flashlight against her other hand to try and knock it into working a bit better, but it simply died out, light bulb and all. “Tch.” She ‘said’ before tossing the flashlight aside, it being completely useless to her now, so turning around to start speaking to Alice… “We’re going to have to deal without light for now-“ but no one was there. Blinking a bit in surprise, she took a few extra glances in front and behind her, there was no sound…no footsteps, only Lightning. Alice…must’ve taken a wrong turn and wasn’t looking as the light started to go out. How far back was the redhead anyways? With a deep and frustrated sigh, Lightning pressed a hand to her forehead and shook her head. Frustration was weighing down on her shoulders heavily now. “I can’t…go back. Is it too much to ask for competent people to travel with?” she grumbled before turning back the way she needed to go, trudging off by herself in the darkness…which was only somewhat creepy.
Somewhat.
Escaping the narrow hallway, Lightning appeared in a room that seemed to have a little bit of light in it, there was a hole somewhere in the ceiling area from where a bit of light was peeking through the stone, and as she felt around, she felt a torch on the wall. Hopefully it was still able to be lit. Pulling it from its spot on the wall, Light conjured up a simple fire spell and cast it towards the torch, lighting it up and lightening up the room as well before she placed it back on the wall. If anyone was near, they’d see the light, right? All she had to do was wait now, and hope that someone came this way…if not…she wasn’t sure whether or not to try and find her way out of these ruins or to just continue searching. Moving towards the edge of the room on the opposite side of the light, Lightning sat down on a stone ledge, crossing one leg over the other as she leaned back against the wall, giving herself a few minutes of rest and a few minutes to wait and see who would come this way, if anyone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 900 Muse: Good! Less talk and more pull?! “Less complainin’ an’ more help!”, she bit back out, setting her heels in and grunting when she dragged him up and then plopped back and onto her heels on the tiny place that they had available. Luckily, Fang didn’t really give a damn about the lack of personal space in situations like this. Life happened, and as long as he wasn’t actually on top of her, then she was fine with it. Generally speaking anyway. Besides, it wasn’t like he was hard on the eyes, so it wasn’t so bad. But anyway, Fang got her breath back for a few seconds and then scooted away, carefully sitting up and feeling the rock above her with her hand. Carefully moving around, Fang peered forward to see the outline of Cole. Well that helped her to get her bearings a little bit, and prepare herself for moving more. So once she got herself ready to go and all prepared, she turned her questioning to Cole to see if he was feeling the same way.
And got quite the amusing answer. Chuckling a little bit at what he was sarcastically mentioning, Fang nodded. “Hell yeah, what better way ta’ spent the evening then with some ankle bitin’ boogyman snappin’ at yer heels?” Leaning forward and slapping his shoulder, or what she hoped was his shoulder anyway, Fang then shifted back and behind her to study the little passageway that had been cut out perhaps centuries earlier. Cole leaned past her then, and to assist him with looking, she moved gingerly to the left to see if she could make more room for him. Unfortunately, the ledge that they were sitting on right now had a tight space, so moving around too much was basically impossible. Also unfortunately, he had to bring up the red head again. Instantly she felt like punching her. “She ain’t worth waistin’ brain cells on. But next toime I see ‘er...”
She left it at that, before crawling forward to see if she could start going through the tunnel. On her hands and knees, Fang started going forward calmly, keeping one hand up at all times to feel in front of her. His reply to commenting about his ass caused her to press against the wall to her right to peer over her shoulder, a laugh escaping her lips. “It’s always a damned good toime ta’ talk about asses. An’ dontcha forget it,” she cheerfully said before starting forward more, peering forward to try and see if what she was seeing was a light or just her eyes playing tricks on her.
Cole cleared that up when he mentioned the light as well. “Oh good, it wasn’t jus’ me that saw the loight. Thought I was goin’ crazy there fer a moment, ya know? Good thing ya mentioned it, or I woulda been crawling up here an’ thinkin’ I was goin’ crazy.” The rock was hard on her knees. Moving forward, she set it down on top of a sharper part of the rock. “Ow, god damn it.”, she muttered out, placing her knee in another position to continue on. “Who’s idea was it ta’ come out ta’ this damn blasted place anyway?” A moment of silence before her good natured sarcasm came again. “Ooooh yeah, it was you. The hell’d ya get us into this for anyway?” Still, the light was getting brighter, maybe they were getting somewhere.
A few minutes of silence. If you called her cussing over the hard rock, breathing, and the scraping of clothing and skin on rock silence. And ever present was the light that continued to get brighter and brighter. “Looks loike it ends up here Handsome!”, she said over her shoulder, before the tunnel ended and a ledge looking over a strange room was upon them. Stopping suddenly, Fang stayed still on her hands and knees. “Damn! Would ya look at tha’ Cole?!”, she burst out. Obviously not paying attention to the fact that she was blocking his sight with her backside. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 855 Muse:; Great! Tagged:; Cole, Light, Rygdea! Finally, someone that could keep up with his banter. Cole had known he liked Fang at first - strictly for male reasons - but damn if she wasn't a good bit more interesting conversation than most people here. That Rygdea had done a good job. "Should I make a list of things or just name off whatever comes to mind in the next ten seconds?", he sarcastically asked Fang, at her mention that things trying to bite you in half were part of a good time. He thought she was trying to slap him once he'd said it, but she ended up just popping him on the almost-shoulder...more like the neck, which didn't feel all that great. A part of him thought another attack would come, but once it didn't he leaned forward to take in the situation and decided they really only had one way they could go anyway, so why bother studying it oh so much? The answer was, there was no point. Weren't they all just so glad they had Cole around to tell them to take the only path that was available to them? Well, they very much should have been.
But once they were moving, or at least in the right position to start moving, there were...round things, yes, and they weren't Cole's own as Fang had mentioned. Cole had been in this same position before, but most times he hadn't had the possibility that the darkness could lead him into a face-full. Yep, he'd be keeping his distance as they crawled along... "Fine, fine, talk about them all you want to...I'll just be here, reconsidering my life." And so Cole forced himself to keep eyes up so they wouldn't have a sudden rear-end collision, feeling like he needed to stay stiff and rigid to avoid things getting awkward suddenly. Yep, because being stiff and rigid was definitely the way to avoid things getting awkward...it would help so much. Stiff and rigid was also not a great thought, so Cole just tried to bore his mind free of any thoughts at all, save for listening to Fang talking about seeing the light up ahead and wondering where they'd end up once they were out. Yep, keeping his mind occupied sure helped. Suuure did...or if it didn't, he was going to focus enough on it to think that it did.
Bumping himself against a sharp jut-out in the wall, since he was at taking up at least four or five more inches shoulder to shoulder in the little tunnel, Cole mumbled a curse before answering Fang's question. "Because I'd rather not die when I'm twenty-six because of some stupid god that isn't even my own god?", Cole retorted, rhetorically, surprised at how easily bringing up Barty could get him worked up. Well, surprised at how much he could get him worked up even after this much time had passed, at least. The only point to it would have been if Barty had been right in front of him and he could wail on him...and the only wailing going on today, apparently, was going to be Fang-on-Alice once they all got back together. That was perfectly okay wailing for Cole for any number of reasons...too bad it wouldn't be as playful as what he managed to talk Layne and Chloe into sometimes...
Damn did he wish they were here.
Cole didn't say anything when Fang mentioned she saw the end, just made a few grunts of effort that hopefully sounded affirmative to her. They kept on at their usual clip, Cole being dang glad he didn't have claustrophobia, until the light became enough that he could fully see Fang before him and his hands underneath him. Yep, they were right where they needed to be...but Cole couldn't exactly see anything...and apparently, Fang had forgotten that. And apparently forgotten that stopping all of a sudden was a bad thing. When she put on the breaks, Cole almost couldn't do the same fast enough, but thankfully stopped...though he was still at a very interesting range. "Um...yeah....you definitely....work out your glutes....", he told her to remind her of his situation, awkwardly, while rubbing at his neck. "What is it? I can't see a thing but all of you... I mean, it's not a complaint, but..."
Maybe but wasn't a good word there...

Lightning needed more patience. It was amazing she’d made it this far without bailing on everyone and telling them to figure it all out themselves, but hey…she was alone now. Having gotten separated from everyone, literally everyone, she simply was a sitting duck. SHE was the sitting duck. How awful was that? With a bit of discomfort being the only one – kind of funny since she was definitely the ‘lone wolf’ type – she simply gazed around the room she was in, looking around and seeing the light of the flames on the torch flicker against the darkness of the walls. She was waiting. What for? She wasn’t exactly sure. Maybe Rygdea would find his way around that wall of debris and find his way into this room? It sounded too simple in her head. Maybe she’d finally run into Cole and Fang, after all, they couldn’t be too far now…unless…something bad happened to them- ‘Stop. They’re fine.’ The pinkette chided herself, still…there was worry lingering.
Shaking her head with a deep sigh, the former soldier needed to be on her feet again. Standing up and looking around, she folded her arms across her chest, looking at the dull and dusty walls, looking for anything that would grab her attention. Nothing jumped out at her though, in fact…she was pretty sure this was the most boring room within the entire ruins. Lucky her, hm? Shaking her head, she removed the torch from its resting place on the wall and looked towards the end of the room, where she hadn’t yet checked out. There was another pathway to a room on the other side, and if she hadn’t ran into anyone yet…what was the harm in checking it out? Perhaps that would be one step closer to Cole and Fang, or even Rygdea. Whatever it was…she was checking it out whether anyone liked it or not.
Striding forward, watching her step as she went, Lightning entered the narrow pathway, actually having to turn sideways due to it being so small and narrow. The walls had crumbled a little due to some erosion and left the pathway even a little too close for her. Scooting along the wall sideways, shifting herself yet keeping the torch aflame, she finally saw and felt an opening ahead. There was a cool draft hitting her in the face, and that really did mean there was another room ahead. Moving quicker, she pulled herself through the narrow pathway and out into the open, straightening her uniform as she then looked around. It was definitely more spacious than the last room, and definitely less boring. A furrow of her brows occurred when she heard something, it sounded like muffled voices, but she couldn’t quite make them out. “Hmph, it’s probably nothing.” She told herself, moving towards the center of the room, but then veering off towards the side to check out a nice looking carving on the wall, not that she could read Pulsian, but whatever it was…it looked nice, nice as in…if Fang were here she’d be able to translate it easily.
“Tch, figures.” Lightning mumbled with a roll of her eyes before the sound came to her again, this time a little clearer. She had been hearing voices, there was no mistake of that this time. Turning around and placing her free hand on her hip, she remained there by the edge of the room, waiting, her eyes searching carefully but she had yet to see anyone. They were close, very close actually…now the real trick was actually finding them in these blasted dark ruins. “Coulson? Fang?”she mumbled a bit, not wanting to attract any unwanted critters her way…but hey, so long as she found her companions, all would be well…right? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 730 Muse: Good! Fang didn’t even hesitate when he asked her if he should come up with a list, but gave him a husky laugh and slapped him lightly on the shoulder. Damn, it was hard to dislike this man. Very hard to dislike him. Hell, she actually liked him, as indicated by the sparkle in her eyes and the mirth in her laughter. “If ya come up with some better ways ta’ spend some time, ya let me know.” Another man who could take the banter and not get all righteous about it, she liked that. Hell, there were enough people with sticks up their backsides. And he was taking her concentration off ripping some poor innocent creature to shreds and focusing her attention on some humor. She could appreciate that he had almost instantly lightened her mood. Perhaps she should be worried to death over Lightning and Rygdea and if they were alright or not, but she wasn’t. They were damned strong, if anyone was going to survive this, it would be those two. Lightning had dealt with every possible adversity as was possible, and Rygdea was just too plain hard headed to get himself killed. So instead Fang could focus on their own problems. Thankfully Cole didn’t seem like a complete tenderfoot now that she was traveling alone and could actually observe him. Hard to give someone the time of day when you had a sky pilot to observe.
Another slight laugh came from Fang as she started to crawl inside the tunnel system. Damn, but he sure didn’t want to talk about asses. “Don’cha think it’s a bit late ta’ be reconsiderin’ yer loife? ‘Soides, I had ya pegged as someone that could handle it,” she challenged, a grin on her lips she knew he couldn’t see. The rocks bit at the skin on her knees, but Fang ignored it the best she could and focused on getting from point A to point B. She didn’t know about Cole, but she sure as hell wanted to get out of this damned tunnel and find the others as quickly as possible. Then she could breathe easily. Unfortunately, there didn’t seem to be an end right at the moment, so they had to continue on and hoped there was an end. Otherwise they’d have to go back and face beasty, which wasn’t such a bad idea in her mind.
Fang made no reply at first on his muttering about how this wasn’t even his own god that he was going to die for. Instead she continued to crawl, muttering out curses at the rocks that continued to scrape at her knees. A few seconds after, she turned her head slightly and tried to see behind her unsuccessfully. “Don’t sound so down ‘bout it, huh? Just look at it this way. Ya get ta’ die fer a creepy ancient pope man probably dressed in frilly underpants under that big gown.” Her voice was thick with amusement. “Don’t tha’ make ya feel better?” Bantering fell away as soon as she hit the end of the tunnel and looked out below her.
She hadn’t been thinking about his situation when she had put on the breaks, and just settled there on her hands and knees waiting for his affirmation that he was seeing what she was. His reminder made her shift to the side and glance over her shoulder to check back on him. The look on his face had her chuckling all over again. “What? Feelin’ uncomfortable Cole?”, she devilishly asked, before taking pity on him and shifting out of the way so that he could crawl forward and be on the same ledge she was, overlooking the same room. “Sure does seem loike what we’re lookin’ fer, don’cha think?” A movement to her right caused Fang to glance down at the figure that decided to grace them with her presence. “Well I’ll be damned! If it ain’t Loight!”, she called down, looking past the pink haired woman to check on Rygdea and see if she could beat the hell out of Alic-…where were they? She didn’t honestly care too much about the red head, but she felt worry when she wasn’t seeing the pilot swaggering after Lightning. Quickly shifting until she had dropped off the ledge and was holding onto the edge with her fingers, she grinned up at Cole. “See ya below.” And then she released her hold and dropped to the ground, bending her knees to absorb the shock and turned her head to look at her friend. “The hell’d ya leave Ry at?”
