How to wear heels? The dilemma almost every girl went through at least once in their lives. Cater never thought of wearing heels any higher than her school shoes. Usually, the red head was used to running around at top speed all over the place. Tonight, she was going to have to do without them. Wearing her school shoes wouldn't at all go with the attire she was to wear tonight. The Peristyllium Suzaku Academy was hosting a dance. Just about everyone was going and since it was a formal occasion, Class Zero was expected to be there.
Rumor also had it where if none of the Class Zero members participated, they were going to have to suffer through an embarrassing lecture of the birds and the bees by Arecia. Even if she knew most of the others were going, Cater couldn't help but feel like Mother was going to do it anyway. She was just that spontaneous of a woman and Cater wouldn't put it past her.
Having prepared a week ahead of time, Cater had practiced walking around in a heel higher than what she was used to. Of course, not the ankle breaking stilettos that had heels too damn high that could easily make a girl fall on her face. Cater had gone with some friends to see what kind of heel would be more compatible with her. She managed to find a pair of white leather heeled dress shoes. Where they were moderately higher than her school shoes in heel, she was able to walk around in them without trouble. The only thing that she couldn't do in them was run at her usual speedy pace. They certainly went well with her short, strapless pink bow dress.
The dress itself looked plain in the back but from the front, a bow met at the dress's top center and the frills to the ends of the bow cascaded down the front of it. The reason why Cater chose this over a longer gown was because she felt this would be less likely to trip her up. As for her hair, there really wasn't any way for her to keep it contained. Her red hair just flared out as it pleased no matter what she tried. Oh well, it wasn't like she really cared. She did try to tame it though in smoothing it out a bit so it wasn't as wild as it normally was.
Wandering down the halls, she wondered how things were going to be. She figured once she got there that she'd be able to figure out what to do for the night. Cater was an energetic girl, after all. No way was she going to let her fellow classmates have fun without her! Although, it might be best advised to those with juice to avoid her. She was the type to accidentally jostle someone which would likely cause people to get others doused in juice. She was just as unpredictable as Cinque practically. It was no wonder the two got along so well.
Coming upon the balcony she had once leapt off onto Eight, before turning toward the staircase, her mind drifted to who would be attending. King and Queen would definitely be there. Then there was Ace and Deuce. Trey would definitely be there yakking off anyone's ears if they let him. Rem and Machina would definitely be there too. As for the rest, Cater wasn't so sure. It would be nice to see if they all went. They didn't get to attend such formal occasions all that often here since the Academy barely hosted anything.
As she reached the entrance, after climbing down the steps, she smirked. "Time to party hardy~!" she mused. Hopefully someone she got along well with would be there. It would be interesting to see how he looked during a formal occasion. Even now, as she stepped into the large ballroom where the dance was being held, her eyes scoped the sea of heads for anyone familiar.

Suits.
It was probably a rule of life that martial artists didn't really do suits...especially not suits with ties. Didn't they technically call Eight's class of fighter a "monk", anyway? How many monks walked around in finely pressed suits and ties? None that Eight had ever seen. Of course, most monks were also bald and lived in monasteries without any women around, and Eight wasn't having any of that. He could only make the "monk" claim when it was convenient...like this particular evening, when he was having to fasten himself in with a few too many buttons for his liking.
...Okay, Eight didn't actually mind wearing the suit all that much, he only liked believing he didn't like the suit. What he truly wouldn't enjoy about this evening - meaning the school dance he would be attending, along with everyone else in the school who were afraid of Astley's form of detention and worried about the repercussions of Mother's "birds and the bees" presentations - was the fact that every girl slash woman attending would be in high heels. And Eight...who was already shorter than roughly half of them...would be dwarfed in their midst. Yeah...that was perfect for his self-esteem. Too bad men's platform shoes were out of style these days...he didn't stand a chance among the Amazons of Rubrum.
But he wouldn't worry about it too much. There were plenty of girls his height or shorter he could find to dance with. Of course...that was assuming he ever got to the dance, what with him having lost his shoes somewhere in the dorm room. Originally, he'd been convinced Jack had eaten them before remembering that Jack had more of a taste for vinyl than leather. (Yes, a joke.) He'd spent the last two minutes sliding from place to place in the room trying to find said shoes, looking everywhere from the closet to the bathroom to under his bed to under Jack's bed and everywhere in between. Eight had to start wondering if he had eaten the shoes before he skidded past the bathroom mirror and took a second look at himself.
"...Wow, Eight. I can't tell you how much of a genius you are right now."
Okay, maybe he wasn't as calm and collected for the dance as he thought himself to be. Grabbing the pair of dress shoes that were dangling around his own neck, Eight dropped them onto the floor and practically launched himself into them, taking a really quick gander at his watch before he skidded around the corner out of the bathroom and into the hallway, with a "You've got four minutes, Jack!" before he disappeared out of earshot on his way towards the dance.
It wouldn't take him that long to get there, considering it was...a grand total of one building over. Trotting inside and finding all the usual early birds already spread around the room, some in pairs and some looking completely solitary and lost, Eight started to pinpoint faces and trotted through, mentally making a note of which women to avoid....and by that, he meant the ones who were towering over him. If he tried to dance with said tall women, some unsavory individual would probably ask him if he needed a box or something else ridiculous...and Eight wasn't having any of that. He'd bothered to look nice tonight...people need not rain on his parade.
Passing by Trey apparently flirting with Sice (and patting the archer on the back for support), Eight continued his people safari...before a subject of interest caught his eye. An exotic creature...of the Caterous Class Zerous variety. ...Okay, he would not be saving that for a pick-up line later on. Cater...looked absolutely gorgeous, and Eight couldn't see anything but her back, decked out in pink. Glancing around suspiciously as if he was worried someone would be watching him, Eight sauntered his way casually over behind Cater and poked her on the shoulder, playfully ducking down behind the opposite shoulder to hide once he'd done so.
Everyone else could fend for themselves, Eight had found his focus for the night.

It was a huge turn out for the dance. It looked like the whole school had come to the dance. Even if she had been here for a while, Cater realized that there were still people that she didn't recognize. It was especially hard to spot anyone familiar in all of this. Still, where it initially was an intimidation factor for most, being in the midst of people one didn't know, Cater appeared to be just fine with it. Sure, it would be a bummer to not have at least one other person to hang out with but she would survive. Cater would be a party animal no matter what!
She couldn't help but look around for any of the others though from where she was standing. Where she wasn't the shy type, it still sort of made her uneasy to not see anyone she knew here. Cater wouldn't want to be the only Class Zero member here. If that turned out to be the case, it would leave her wondering where everyone else had gone and didn't tell her.
As her mind wandered, she finally spotted someone familiar. At least, that's what she thought. It looked like she had spotted Trey and Sice. Well, that's good. At least somebody she knew from Class Zero was here. It would suck to be the only one here. As she was standing there, she couldn't help but get the odd feeling that she was being watched. Well, she was a member of Class Zero! She wouldn't doubt it if some of the other classes would be watching her out of curiosity. After all, Cater's class was the cream of the crop. So, she merely dismissed it as nothing. She had no idea who was creeping up behind her right now.
Suddenly, there was a tap on her shoulder. Of course, her natural reaction to being prodded on the shoulder was to turn her head to look over the shoulder of where she had just been poked. It was surprising to her to find that nobody was standing there, like she had thought and yet...someone just had to be there! She could feel someone was there but they must've moved to the other side of her. So, she turned her head over to peer over the other shoulder, her confusion evident.
Well, it didn't take her long to finally find out exactly who it was that had tapped her shoulder. Turning to face him, a smile spread upon her face. Just the person she had wondered about earlier had appeared! The class's martial artist was someone that Cater got along well with. Sure, she might've crash landed on him at one point but they were still cool. Looking at him, it would take some getting used to seeing him in a tuxedo and not the usual class uniform everyone wore. Not that he wasn't good looking, it was just she was used to seeing him in the class uniform all the time. It was a nice change.
"Heya, Eight!" she greeted him with a grin. "Fancy meeting you here!" she added. She did her best to take in all of his appearance. It wasn't often she got to see him dressed up like this after all. At this rate, the night was definitely going to go smoothly. Eight was pretty mellow but also quite playful.
"How're you?" she asked him.

Eight's completely innocent prank worked to absolute perfection, and he couldn't help but let out a light chuckle at Cater's expression as she stared into empty space. Which...probably gave him away, but oh well. He didn't want to make himself too hard to find anyway. Popping back up after she'd spotted him, Eight presented her with a wide grin. She was completely and totally eye-level with him, he noticed immediately. Etro, why did he have to be so short!? Deuce and Rem...heck, Aria of all people...would probably be eye-level with him tonight! ...Okay, so he really wasn't as upset as he could have been, and that last thought was probably a big-time exaggeration. He wasn't that short. At least...Cater was exactly the right size now? Yeah, that would work for compensation.
And she looked pretty. Like, big-time pretty. Like movie star pretty. Like...well, that was probably enough to cover it. Eight stuffed his hands under his jacket into his pants pockets, returning her greeting. "Hey there!" ...Underwhelming thing to say, but it was the first thing that came to his mind. "Yeah! I'm just glad I didn't get sucked into the vortex of Jack's fanclub this time...you know what usually happens when we have a school event." Class Zero members tended to have their little tiny handful of students that wanted to do things for them occasionally, yes, but no one's fanclub was quite as much a carbon copy as the member they "fanned" as Jack's - which meant they were all pretty ditzy if you asked Eight. At least that Kayla girl wasn't in it...of course, she was in every Class Zero guy's fanclub in a way. She probably would have been in their...uh...well...boxers too if they didn't watch out. Scary stuff.
Eight...very much thought Cater was checking him out in his suit. Perfect! He knew the red was the right way to go. Self-consciously, he patted his tie down a bit. Obviously, being who he was, Eight wasn't exactly shying away from noticing everything about Cater, either. But he, with some effort, managed to keep his gaze on her face as she asked how he was. "I'm pretty great anytime there's free food," he joked lightly, with a grin. "I'm just glad everyone has a chance to relax after all the studying and training...though I'm not sure how anyone can relax in an itchy suit," he added, scratching lightly at his neck for effect. His uniform was pretty comfortable...this was not. He wasn't completely against dressing formally like he figured some of the guys were, but he wouldn't exactly go out of his way to dress like this all the time. Cater all dolled up, though? Yeah, that was worth feeling itchy for a couple of hours.
He just had to come up with a way to keep himself around Cater for as long tonight as was possible...especially once the dancing started. Because dancing meant cuddling...and cuddling was a good thing...as long as she didn't already have another guy lined up to dance and eat with her. That...could make things really awkward. "How about you? Didn't bring anyone with you, did you?"

After hearing a chuckle, it hadn't been hard to figure out that there had been someone behind her. Once she spotted Eight, she could see his amusement in her confusion. Cater couldn't help but furrow her brows and mock frown at him in response. "Trying to pull a fast one on me, eh?"she mused.
Now that she looked at Eight, she did note that she was actually eye level with him. Normally, without the heels, Cater was shorter than him. Well, as long as she didn't put heels on that were too high. Cater wouldn't be able to walk if she did since she was new to the whole heel thing. Heels were pretty painful! The ones she had one weren't causing her any discomfort for now. She hoped it would stay that way the rest of the night. Still, it would be worth the aches and pains if she had a fun time tonight.
She furrowed a brow, tilting her head to the side a bit as Eight mentioned Jack's fan club. Everyone from Class Zero had a little group that followed them around. Most of them, depending on the gender of the member, consisted of the opposite gender. Of course, some of them were just mere admirers that wished to be friends and nothing more but you still got the occasional...strange one in the bunch. Kayla was one of those strange ones. Cater wasn't sure if there was even a male equivalent to Kayla. Then again, Cater didn't exactly tolerate people being openly weird. Usually she'd pull out her gun and that would settle things straight.
"Oh Etro, I know, right?! I was lucky to avoid my own little fan club! All because we're from Class Zero!" she replied to what Eight said. All of them had a fan base. Maybe the guys more so than the girls but they all had a fan base. It was cool but also kind of a pain. It wasn't easy to have a bit of privacy now and then. It was especially next to impossible with Naghi and Carla around, blogging everything about Class Zero. Carla had some kind of vendetta, as for why Naghi was helping her out, one could only guess.
Having taken in Eight's appearance, he did know how to dress. The red shirt and everything, even the tie, went together smoothly. His shoes were even shiny! She didn't let her gaze linger too much on his appearance in case she turned the whole situation awkward for them. After all, what girl could resist looking at a guy in a suit? Not many, that was for sure!
Cater wasn't often the one to feel a bit self conscious but around Eight, she did feel a little awkward but that was probably because they were formally dressed and at a dance. Cater always tended to get along well with Eight. As they stood there for a brief moment, a slight moment of silence passing between them, Eight stuffed broke it by saying how he was doing. Typical Eight, free food and he was there, pronto! Cater couldn't help but smile at that. Yeah, it was good to get away from all the studying and having a chance to relax. She couldn't help but giggle a bit when he told her that he didn't know how anyone could deal with an itchy suit.
"Yeah, it's great to get away from schoolwork for a bit!" she agreed.
As they were talking, Cater noted how Eight appeared to be by himself. If he was, they could probably party together! It was no fun being alone, after all. It didn't take long for Eight to question her as to how she was doing and if she had been with anyone. "You know me! Same ol', same ol'!" she answered him. "Actually, I came here by myself...you?" she asked him in return. If he answered he was, she'd most likely suggest they grab a bite t eat. Already, Cater could feel her stomach's hunger rising by the minute.
"Hey, why don't we go grab a bite to eat? Free food and all, not something to pass up!" she suggested. Depending on his answer, Cater would probably grab hold of one of his arms and pull him over to a table. Cater was hyper so this kind of thing should be expected of her. Not that she'd drag poor Eight around all night!
While they were at a table, eating, Cater wondered what Eight had been up to lately. She only really saw him in class. Hardly did she see him outside of it. "You didn't get in trouble over...you know, Trey's birthday, did you? Been staying away from mysterious magic too?" she asked him. Of course, Eight would know what two incidents she was referring to. The time where he got himself terribly drunk and the time his touching unknown magic ended up switching people's bodies. (OOC: You're welcome to move Cater around too as you see fit lol.)
