Ladies and Gentlemen from all over the Final Fantasy Universe,
Welcome to the next segment of the most FABULOUS blog out there. We’ll be discussing the RIGHT and WRONG things to do when it comes to fashion and other things. I will be accompanied by my fabulouspartner in crime, Barthandules, as we lead you onto the right path if you want to be just as fabulous as us.
Today’s topic: Eyepatches – Health issues, or just badass.
I have two examples within this segment, Gippal from the oh so hated on Final Fantasy X-2 and the other example is from the newly released Final Fantasy Type-0, Qator Bashtar. Let’s go in order by game, starting with Gippal.
Now, look at that picture there. It seems that the eye patch on the young man seems to add a statement, something saying “Hey, look at me, I’m badass.” But my real question for these eye patch donners, is this. Is this all for show? Or is there something beneath that the world doesn’t need to see? Well, considering what I know about X-2 – which is absolutely nothing, I will not question Gippal for wearing an eye patch, and really, it does compliment his outfit nicely. The red and black and then a black eye patch? Yes, it certainly completes the outfit and makes him look like a far more interesting character than he probably is. Way to go Square Enix! You did do something right to help this game didn’t you?
Now, onto our latest victim. Qator Bashtar, a Brigadier General and Antagonist in Type-0
Just look at that very fabulous military attire. Now, from my knowledge of Type-0, there was an accident which caused the eye patch to be important, who would want to go around showing off a scar over one’s eye? Or worse! That would be so uncool. Another prop for this character is well…he’s an antagonist. The patch over his eye just adds to the feel of him being a bad guy working for the bad side. Of course whenever someone really does think of the word ‘eye patch’ what do we really think? Do we think of Qator Bashtar? Do we think of Gippal?
No, I don’t think so.
Ask anyone on the street and when you say ‘eye patch’ they’ll come back with some sort of pirate remark. But just to humor myself, we went around both Spira and Oriens looking for a statement for this bad ass fashion trends. Coming across an obnoxiously annoying young blonde girl, we asked her about Gippal, this is what she had to say. “Gippal? The eye patch looks nice! Makes up for his slight meanie-ness at times!” Well, isn’t that lovely, I’m pretty sure she said something else but it was in Al Bhed so…whatever we don’t care. When we got back to Oriens we happened to stumble across a very lovely and very kind gentleman named Kurasame. We asked him about Qator and his eye patch and he gave us the best stare down the world has ever seen, along with a few words along the lines of poking someone’s eye out, or something silly like that. So really, our time had been wasted.
My advice: Keep the eye patches guys, it makes you look bad ass and so much better than you would without them, no offence of course. But my question still remains, and I’ll leave it to you guys to decide.
Eye patches…
Health Issues?
Or just badass?
