Finally. Finally.
Noel wasn't sure at what point he'd stopped saying the word out loud and started repeating it in his mind. But...finally.
He released the biggest sigh of relief he thought any man could ever muster as he dropped down into the chair in front of the...gigantic window, bigger than any he'd ever seen, that looked over Academia. Just seeing the city with the sun shining on it and people walking around and everything else Noel supposed a city should have was the best example of how far they'd come from where they were at the start of their last fight with Caius. There wasn't any more power from the Heart of Chaos keeping time suspended. The ritual had worked on Serah, as Noel's bandaged left hand reminded him. Lightning was back, able to come and go from Valhalla as much as she wanted to. And even Yeul, after all she'd been through, didn't have to worry about...anything anymore, really. For right now...Noel didn't want to jinx it....everything was right again. Well...almost right.
That future Noel had been fighting for? The one with people in it? Well, it probably existed now, but Noel couldn't get back to it. Neither could Yeul. Recent events had locked time gates to them. There wasn't any getting them back to their time period right now. Not until Hope maybe figured out how to get his time machine to work again, if it ever would. It was kind of bittersweet. Noel didn't mind being here, in this city, with the people he now knew and considered easily the best friends he'd ever had outside of Yeul. He could be very happy here, he was sure. But knowing there would be people back in 700 AF and knowing he wouldn't be a part of that world anymore was kind of hard to take. What if the Caius living there now was a genuinely good man that Noel could look up to? What if...what if Noel's grandmother lived to see him grow up to be a man? All unanswered questions that would probably stay unanswered for now... Too bad Hope's Oracle Drive had stopped working as well. Whatever was out beyond them, in the timelines they'd managed to fix, was on its own.
Noel seemed to be, too. Hope had given the people who didn't have places to live - mostly just him and Yeul, though the others had been in here for a time - an apartment for temporary purposes. It had...this one huge window, that much Noel knew, even if he couldn't use half the appliances in the place even with Hope's detailed explanations of each and every one of them. He did know enough to be able to make food and stay clean, though, which was all he really needed to do right now. The television thing...that one he could save to figure out later, when there was a little more comfort involved. As he remained perched in the chair, elbows resting on his knees, he assumed himself to be effectively alone in the apartment, though no one was ever really alone in a city this big. It was kind of early, so he thought Yeul might have been sleeping or went to see Hope about something or anything else that might be occupying her. In his people-watching, his eyes skimming over those who passed below on their way to work, he wasn't making much noise or fuss, so if Yeul was here she probably wouldn't be roused by knowing he was around. It was all good with Noel. After all that they'd been through, just sitting and doing nothing productive for at least a few minutes seemed like an okay plan. Noel could figure out what to do with his day later. Words - 678 Tagged - Yeul! Muse - Excellent! Place - Apartment, Academia Outfit - Usual Notes - Yes I gave you a Dixie Chicks thread title.

Green eyes opened slowly.
Sitting up in the bed located in a room that still wasn’t familiar to her, the young woman furrowed her brow and glanced around, taking a moment to adjust. Swinging her legs over until she was sitting on the side of the bed, she turned her head to peer at the machine sitting on the table by her bedside. Early. Still very early. This still didn’t seem real to her. Gaze dropped until she was looking at her bare feet and wiggled her toes just to see movement. It took a moment for her to stand, but finally she did, moving toward the wardrobe that held the very small amount of possessions she owned. Not much was in there. Honestly, Yeul wasn’t used to having anything, ever. A priestess didn’t usually own much. As soon as the thought popped into her head she chided herself for it. ’You’re not a priestess anymore,’ she thought. Well then what was she? Reaching inside, she pulled out her clothing. Pulling the white shirt over her head, she settled it on and then slipped the skirt over her legs, adjusting everything until it was properly placed on her body. This was so foreign to her. Up until this point, she knew what she would do with her day. Yeul would do her duties as a priestess and help Caius protect the timeline. She would see things, see the future events, the paradoxes, and she would help protect it, often dying in the meantime. Service toward Etro had always been a challenge, something for the young teenager to bear constantly. What…was she supposed to do now? Who was she now?
Normal.
What an odd term. What was normalcy anymore? Yeul couldn’t say she disliked not having the…blessing? Curse? Of being a servant of Etro any longer, but it was so hard to adjust. She had been with Caius, with him by her side, for hundreds of years, constantly. And now she might not ever speak to him again. He had been wrong, yes, completely wrong. But there had to have been good in him. He tried to destroy the world, and accomplished it to some degree, simply to try and save her from her fate. But it was Noel who had fixed things, she reminded herself. Noel who had given her the future she had asked him for. He hadn’t let her down, and yes, they had met again. It seemed so odd, to be stuck in one time line for a lifetime. Her lifespans had always been so short, living as a normal human was nothing but a dream at best, a fantasy. Yet here she was. Cosmos had made sure she had been freed from her duty as a priestess, but in the process, Noel and herself would be staying here from now on. It didn’t bother her, not really. She had lived in each of the times, she had seen all the timeline, and this wasn’t a bad time to live.
And for the first time in her life, Yeul didn’t know what the future would bring.
It really was unsettling. She couldn’t imagine what Noel was thinking. She had never had a family, but he-…well, would he feel as if he was missing out? What better way to find out then to simply ask him? What a smart idea. Shaking her head, Yeul slipped on her bangles and jewelry before she slipped into a pair of sandals she had bought. The little money they had been given she hated to spend, but Yeul also figured buying a new pair of inexpensive sandals wasn’t going to use up the money. Buckling them up, she finally straightened to look at her appearance in the mirror, sitting down to brush her hair and make sure she looked presentable.
This was still very…interesting.
What did normal people do with their time? Standing up and opening the door, she slipped out and tip toed around the house, not wanting to wake Noel if he was still asleep. Again, what did people do with their time if they weren’t seeing the future and protecting the timeline? Well what were some things she liked to do? …
…
……
She hadn’t ever thought about it really. Garden? Yeul liked flowers. She knew that for certain. Perhaps she could find some place to garden. …In the city? Well scratch that idea. With a heavy sigh, Yeul wandered into the kitchen and leaned her hands against the counter top. Why was it that doing nothing scared her so much? Glancing around the kitchen, she saw the cupboards and suddenly an idea dawned on her. Hope had taught them both how to use the technology that scattered its way through the building. Some of them she hadn’t touched, not wanting to break them. Like the television that stood in the living room. She was slightly afraid to use it, just in case she might harm it in some way. But the stove. She could use that!
Going toward the refrigerator, she opened it cautiously and peered inside, seeing a bunch of ingredients. She didn’t really know a great deal about cooking, but it couldn’t be so hard, could it? Getting out eggs, milk and a few other things she thought she might need, Yeul wandered around the kitchen to find bowls and spoons. Cookies sounded delicious, and she thought Noel might like them. After all, they hadn’t ever had anything like cookies when they had been in the Dying world, that was for sure. Was there a recipe book? Searching in the cupboard for it, she finally found one. Flipping until she found the first cookies she saw, she peered at the snicker doodle cookie recipe. She could follow a recipe, couldn’t she? Well…here went nothing. Seeing the apron, she settled that around her slender waist and put her hair into a bun to get it out of her eyes. Washing her hands, Yeul finally had to continue searching for the things she would need, trying to be as quiet as possible. When closing a cupboard door with the sugar in hand, Yeul’s hand slipped and it slammed shut on her finger, clattering shut with a sound that to her, seemed to penetrate the entire house, as little as it was. Gasping lightly, she quickly placed the sugar on the counter and pulled her hand back, seeing the red spot on her finger. “Oh my,” she uttered quietly, before rubbing it gently.

Yeah, Noel was starting to think he could get used to life here. It wasn't the kind of extremely personal community he was used to - with so few people in his time, everyone knew everyone and they all needed to if they planned to survive. But the people here were usually friendly, even if most of them kind of stuck to their own families. That was a good thing about Serah and Snow and Hope and all the rest...they were kind of a big, extended family that didn't actually have any blood ties aside from Snow and Serah, which Noel understood completely. He just...didn't understand the way certain ones acted around each other. The main source of his confusion came in seeing Snow and Serah together, and Fang and Rygdea, and Hope and V- well, yeah, the majority of them in pairs. How did someone come around to deciding they were going to have that sort of relationship? It had been kind of in the back of his mind for a while now, but he'd never let it be something he thought all that much about while he was traveling with Serah. And he didn't want to really bug her with questions about it. Now that the world wasn't ending, though, it kept popping back up again. Maybe he needed to talk to Hope about it...it seemed like a thing he shouldn't ask any of the women, especially not the ones he didn't know as well.
And there was no way in Pulse he was asking Snow about it.
A light, faint banging from deeper in the house - one only a hunter would hear - roused him slightly, causing him to turn his ear to listen for a moment. No other sounds reached him. He peered around the back of his chair. "Yeul?", he asked the open air, not surprised he didn't see the girl to whom the name belonged in the room behind him. Noel energetically popped up out of his chair to go explore the apartment for the source of the noise. It wasn't as if it was going to be a waste of time. What was people-watching from a giant window, while thinking about a subject he clearly didn't understand, but a waste of time itself? So, yeah, running around the house to figure out what had caused some most likely coincidental noise wasn't much of a downgrade. Noel wanted to stay quiet, though, in case Yeul was still in bed. With the lightest steps someone of his stature and manner could muster, Noel slid quietly out of the living room and moved on towards the rest of the apartment, like the room he'd been sleeping in - he'd never had a bedroom before, always just sharing cots with others - and something they called a "laundry room" where Hope had explained people were supposed to wash their clothes. The machine inside was fal'Cie-big, but Noel had figured out well enough how to use it...he hoped. He was able to wear the clothes he'd washed in it, though, so that was a plus.
Still picking up some quiet sounds, Noel started to figure out they were coming from somewhere...near the kitchen. Yeah, the kitchen...king of all places where he couldn't figure out much of what was going on inside it. He knew how to use a stove top, because they did have rusty versions of them in his world. And he knew the refrigerator was what the people in modern society called an ice box - all the cold food went in there. Take stuff out of the ice b- the refrigerator and put it on the stove top. Clean the food in the sink, which was like a well, if it needed to be cleaned. Yeah, Noel could do all of those things just fine. It was when the toaster and the microwave and the dishwasher and all of those things he'd never seen or heard of before in his life came into the equation that Noel started to have some trouble. So...as long as he could, he would ignore those things. Especially since everything that came out of that microwave box seemed to have turned into rubber...
But, still, Noel made it to the kitchen, stepping in without taking a peek first. The familiar stature and hair of the person inside told him that Yeul definitely wasn't in bed anymore, though he couldn't really say he knew what she was doing. Well, aside from apparently...cooking something? She had pans and...bags of stuff spread around her in the kitchen, plus a book. Not wanting to spook her in case he'd really managed to be quiet with his sneaking around, Noel turned and rapped his hand on the door frame a few times, providing a light smile. "Hey, morning, Yeul!", he greeted, before stepping further into the room with his eyes on what she had gotten out of the cabinets. "What're you working on?" Words - 873 Muse - Excellent! Rubbing her finger once more, Yeul ignored the slight throb and leaned up against the counter, just the right height to place her elbows easily on it and lean on them. Peering at the words that were written there – somewhat foreign to her compared to the language of the Pulsians – and read down the ingredient list, checking periodically at the ingredients that she already had out on the counter. Eggs. Check. Butter. Check. Sugar. Yes. Cinnamon? …Yes. Nutmeg? Yes. Salt? Why on earth did cookies, sweet cookies, need salt in them? Checking to make sure she hadn’t read it wrong, Yeul tapped the counter top with her nails, wondering if they had gotten the recipe wrong. Well…she’d try it anyway. If they turned out salty instead of sweet, then she was blaming the book and that was that. Then again, she wasn’t exact a chef. That would come in time. Right now she just wanted to make Noel something nice.
How did one say “Thank you for saving the entire planet and saving me from a hundred year old curse.”? On second thought, this probably wasn’t going to cut it. Of course, it was a start! Well, what else did she need? Baking soda and flour. Well that seemed normal. –aside from the salt of course- Bending over to where she had seen the bag with ‘flour’ on it, she got it out, trying to be careful not to let the door slip out of her grasp and clatter shut like the previous one had. Slipping it onto the counter, she surveyed the mess of things on the counter, wondering how she went from all these scattered things to the sugary sweets she was determined to make. Well…she was going to try! Look at her, being all normal and stuff! What would Caius think of her now? He had tried to destroy anything so she could have this life. A life free from dying constantly. Well here she was, wishing that it hadn’t gotten that far in order to obtain it. Would she ever see him again?
Standing quietly, Yeul restlessly shifted a spoon around in her fingers, remembering what he looked like. When had he become so obsessed with rescuing her? Not that it really mattered. That chapter in history was gone. Rewritten to a future that wouldn’t bring about the destruction of the world by allowing chaos to spill over from Valhalla. ’Oh Caius…’ But they would meet again as well. Caius would come back and she could see the man that had been her companion for hundreds of years.
So deep in thought that she didn’t hear his approach, Yeul was dragged out of her thoughts by the sharp noises and the familiar voice behind her. Subconsciously straightening her clothes, Yeul turned her head, a gentle smile on her face. There stood Noel, as energetic and happy as ever. How many times had that same smile helped her get through her despair? “Good morning Noel,” she cheerfully spoke out. Glancing from him down to the things scattered on the counter, she had to shrug. It had been so long since she had been honest about her feelings, that she didn’t quite know how to talk about what she was feeling. “I’m not entirely sure what to do with myself now that-…well I was trying to make cookies. I thought you might like them,” she said somewhat shyly. “You can come in and have a seat if you’d like,” she mentioned, pointing toward the seat that were pulled up to the table like counter at the end.

Just being able to greet someone and not having to worry about dodging subjects with them - like how everyone was dead - seemed foreign to Noel. How many times had he come around the village to tell everyone good morning and realize Yeul was the only one around to hear it? And then he'd realize he'd need to be chipper in spite of it all. Now...even if Yeul was the only one here in the apartment with him, he knew there were people...out there. There were people in the next apartment, and there were people down on the streets, and people at the Academy. For Noel, it had always been "where can I possibly go to find someone to talk to?" Now he couldn't go anywhere without having someone to talk to. It was a great problem to have, though Noel had learned not everyone around here wanted to interact all that much with strangers. In the Dying World, strangers didn't exist. With all these people, he guessed a person could pick and choose who they wanted to know. Seemed kind of impersonal to him, but Noel was okay just knowing everyone he'd met since becoming a time-traveler...for now.
After managing an even wider grin at Yeul's greeting, Noel turned as she did to look at the odd boxes and bags of ingredients that this living world had in droves. No hunting for food here...at least not purely for survival. They had everything a man or woman needed to cook pretty much whatever meals they wanted. It was weird, though, how they had all these "spices" and similar things here, yet the food didn't have much punch to it. So...what did this all add up to? He saw...sugar. That was something he'd never had much of. The only other thing he recognized immediately were eggs, because obviously he'd seen a few eggs in his time. The rest, well, he either didn't know what it was if he could see it or he couldn't read the label on it. The written language of Noel's time had ended up being some sort of mashed-up combination of Pulse and Cocoon script. He could capably read some parts of both languages, but not enough to make out words that were specific to either. So most of the ingredients spread around in front of Yeul? Noel would have understood them as well as if a behemoth was trying to explain to him what they were.
Now that Yeul mentioned she didn't have anything else she could think to do with herself, Noel fully realized what she'd be going through here in this "normal" world. He blinked at her a few times, studying her face. All her life - or lives - she'd basically just been going through the motions and waiting for the day when her sight of the future would kill her. She hadn't exactly had to go around finding ways to fill in her life. Her duties as a seeress and her attempts to fill up fifteen or sixteen years of life with the experiences of a full lifetime had been enough. Now...would she get bored? Would she think just hanging around this place with Noel was enough? He wasn't sure...but for right now, she seemed pretty happy, not to mention motivated. Noel knew what cookies were, yeah...but he'd never really had them. Not the real thing, at least, like his grandma had told him about. And here was Yeul, trying to make some of them. Noel's face lit up with something he thought might have been pride. "That sounds great," he told her happily, moving to occupy the seat she'd pointed out in his usual, improper way with a leg tucked under the other one.
After settling in and tapping his fingers together a couple of times, taking in the many oddities of the kitchen for the eighth or ninth time, Noel's eyes raised to Yeul again. She looked pretty at home shooting around like this and doing the kind of thing people in Academia did every day around their houses. It made him wonder to himself if any past Yeul had been especially known for her cooking. He also wondered at what the artificial light did to make her hair color seem a little different, but he figured she didn't want him making her paranoid while she was working on the cookies. Keeping silent wasn't going to cut it, either. He decided what he'd just been thinking about was as good of a means for conversation as any. Besides, he was curious. "I can't remember seeing you cook anything other than the meats we hunted. You'd always be preparing things while all the rest of us were out finding the next meal." Words - 840 Muse - Excellent! Notes - I agree with this mental image.

The sudden appearance of Noel didn’t scare her, but she hadn’t been expecting it, though she should have. The place was small –granted, not as small as they had had in the Dying World-, and Noel had always been more of a social person. At least, he had tried to be. There wasn’t much socialization when there were only three people that were living. Everyone else had died in the years before. The point being, that she should have known he would be coming to talk. Perhaps she had known, in her own way. How silly of her to think that he might still be sleeping. She forgot at times, of the real hunter that Noel was. The ability to forget was just as silly as her thinking he might still be slumbering. Just looking at him, you could tell what he was. The swords didn’t hurt on that subject either.
Out of the corner of her eye she noticed him making his way over to the seat she had pointed out to him, relaxing a bit as he did so. Perhaps it was because he had been a guardian of sorts that she felt comfortable around him. There was the knowledge that she would be protected. From what? Glancing toward the window on the south side of the small kitchen, she saw the city beyond. There was no reason for her to die anymore, and so no need to have a guardian. Still, it was a comforting thought, and she left the thought like that.
As she subtly glanced at him quickly, Yeul noticed the happiness that radiated from his features. "I like you like this," she started quietly. "Happy." It was impossible not to. She had to be careful or she would be caught simply gawking at him. Forcing herself to look back at the printed language in front of her, telling her how to make the cookies, she couldn’t help the small, secret little smile to herself. Despite being out of her league, a bit confused as to what to do with herself, and slightly overwhelmed at simply being ‘normal’, she felt an inner calm that she hadn’t in many, many years. The knowledge that the timeline was fixed helped her so much, and she had Noel and everyone else that had made it possible to thank for that. In due time, she would return to each of those that had helped and thank them in some way, but for now, the one she wanted to thank was sitting there close to her. She had asked for a new world, full of happiness, and he hadn’t failed in his promise.
Catching herself, Yeul sheepishly realized that she had reread the same instruction over and over again without getting what it was telling her. Focusing once again on the words, she wet her lips and cracked the eggs, somewhat clumsily using the fork to whisk them. This might not turn out so bad after all. She knew both Pulsian and the language of the Cocoon citizens, and though she might perhaps be more at ease with the Pulsian language, this book was straightforward and easy to make heads and tails of. Simply following the directions couldn’t be all that hard, so she continued on in companionable silence. She wasn’t sure what to talk about, that coupled with her concentration caused her to not say anything to him. There was so much to say, and yet she didn’t know how to put it all into words to tell him.
It was then that Yeul realized that there was a tiny bit of shell in the small bowl of eggs. Using her fork, she tried to fish out the egg shell, biting her lip in concentration. It took a bit, but she finally got it out, triumphantly setting it down and continuing on. Cinnamon went in, the sugar and flour, and then finally the eggs. Right after that went the melted butter. Stirring it all together, Yeul went through the steps that were needed to make the dough.
When he decided to talk, Yeul paused and looked over at him, unable to keep the amusement from her features when he had mentioned that she had just cooked meat. Well, yes, she had, and it had all been pretty bland tasting. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to cook better, but the limited resources – none of which included seasonings – Yeul had just tried to make food that would nourish them. “Desire has a way of being present even when the ability is not. Out of the limited resources that the Dying World could hope to produce, there was nothing aside from the meats you brought home to cook with. Fortunate was I to be blessed with two of the finest hunters to provide that much for this seeress.” Picking up the bowl as she spoke, Yeul walked over toward where he was sitting in front of the counter. Placing it down in front of him, she reached back for the cookie sheet she had found. “Want to help?” Giving him an encouraging smile, she pointed toward the mushy cookie dough and then to the pan. “All that’s needed is to roll the dough into little spheres and then place them on here,” she said, then dug her hands in to start. “At least, the recipe book told me such, but perhaps it could be saying a lie.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 1122 Muse:; Great! Yeul's comment...well, it kind of surprised Noel, but he figured he should have expected anyone in the whole world to notice how happy he was now. He'd finally done everything he'd promised Lightning he'd do for her, and even if he'd completely messed up along the way, she didn't hold it against him. "I've got plenty to be happy about," Noel told her, resting his elbows on the table to prepare himself for rattling off a pretty long list. "We brought Serah back, got Snow out of the Coliseum, found Lightning in our world, stopped the Chaos and maybe finally helped Barthandelus and Caius figure out that people aren't just going to stand by and let them take their future away." A slightly saddened expression crossed Noel's features at the mention of Caius. Why couldn't he have figured it out before the end? Nothing Caius could do to break the timeline was ever going to save Yeul. Now Yeul was really saved and Caius was too far gone to appreciate it. Noel was going to learn to deal with Caius' insanity, though, even if he couldn't fully understand it. The smile immediately returned to his face again. "Having you here and...not having to worry about things that could happen is probably the best part, though," he informed her, leaning back in his seat slightly as he did so. Hah, Cosmos had done so much for all of them and this wasn't even her world. He needed to personally thank her sometime...when she wasn't busy trying to hold the timeline together, of course.
Noel lapsed into a silence, seeing that Yeul was trying to focus on her cooking. He watched her with an inquisitive expression. She was doing...something with the eggs, but he couldn't exactly tell what beyond breaking them into a bowl and hitting them with a fork. The hunter knew how to cook...not in a Cocoon kitchen, but out in the open air. He knew how to clean meat and make it so it would keep, more than anything, but he'd also thrown some food on a spit and put it over the fire a few times in his life. Heck, he could even cook some greens back when his world had been lucky to still have any kind of edible plant life. These cookies, though? A total mystery. Noel witnessed Yeul just dump everything into one place, on top of the eggs. All the different things smelled good, but did they go together? Noel had no clue. It wasn't that he didn't trust Yeul, he just didn't trust Cocoon food...
Listening to her words about cooking in the Dying World, Noel decided that, before he'd come to meet Serah and Lightning and the rest, he hadn't really understood how beautifully Yeul could word things. You were always...forced to listen to her because of the way she spoke and give her your full attention. It was a far cry from Noel's way of speaking, though he guessed he was pretty sure people listened to him, if only so they could yell back at him sometimes in disagreement.
Though he was going to say something sheepish about them being the only two hunters to playfully deflect Yeul's compliment, her offer for him to help jarred him from that thought. Heck yeah, he was willing to help with this mystery. He wasn't so sure how much help he would actually be, but he was sure going to try and learn what he was doing when it came to cooking something like cookies. "Yeah, I think I'm up for flattening out a little dough," Noel announced, even though Yeul could have probably gathered he was game to help when he popped right out of his seat and pushed his chair away easily with his foot. Giving her a smile at her comment about the recipe book, Noel shrugged his shoulders before taking up some of the dough in his hand, inspecting it as if it were some deadly weapon before he started to roll it up. "Something tells me there wouldn't be much of a point to lying about cookies." Words - 751 Muse - Excellent! Notes - SOAD for Yeul...

Yeul felt a contentment deep within her. Something had settled deep inside her. Before, she had felt rushed. She was rushed through her short lives, barely having any time to enjoy them, before the time would run out and then she would once again feel the life seep out of her body. Could she even remember how many times that had happened? Looking back, she couldn’t remember. Still, hundreds of years had passed, and she had never lived past her twentieth birthday. That meant that she had had to die hundreds of times. By the last time, she had been so tired…so tired of the continuous cycle, the continuous ‘blessing’ that had been bestowed upon her. Perhaps one reason why Caius’ idea had been so terrible in her mind. Yeul would have never wanted anyone to suffer because of her, least of all just so that she could live free from her curse, but she had also wished that she could just stay dead. Having to be reborn all the time and go through it over and over again had put a strain on her. She had never really had a ‘life’, never gotten to live one, so the prospect of staying dead had never been a bad one. What was living like she had anyway?
And listening to the feats only reiterated in her mind that…they were all free. Yeul wanted to thank them all. Thank everyone that had been involved in saving the world. Noel in her mind was the main reason, the one that had fixed things, but the rest too. They had saved her, saved them all. Everyone owed so much to these few people that had made this world possible. This world that she had hoped for, for so long. For hundreds of years, Yeul had seen this image, of a future that would be free from the suffering…she had seen the vision of running up to Noel for a hug. And then…it had been clouded, distorted. She had lost hope for a time that it would ever come about, but Noel had refreshed that hope. And here they were. That prophecy had come true, the timeline had been freed from the distortions. Still, the happiness that came, and him stating about Caius and Barthandelus, caused her face to fall slightly, eyes glancing down at her hands. Caius…for all his wrong thoughts, she missed him dearly, and wished that he had never been forced over the brink of insanity. She had pushed him to that point, she knew she had. Forcing him to watch her die repeatedly for hundreds of years would put a strain on anyone. He had snapped…the Caius that had caused those problems, that…that was not the Caius that had been her guardian at first. “Yes…wherever he may go, wherever he may be, Caius-…” Yeul stopped and paused in her cooking, her eyebrows furrowed. Finally she continued, her voice soft. “Caius needs the realization within his mind, the knowledge that the actions of those trying to take the lives of thousands of people, just for the sake of a single being, is contemptible, and the reign of such thinking can never be allowed to continue.”
During her speech, Yeul’s gaze had become somber, green eyes watching her hands, but what he said then, able to become cheerful again and mention having her back was also happy, caused her mind to be taken off her sadness about Caius. Not worrying…no more would Yeul be able to foresee her own death and be able to do nothing to avoid it. At first she had been overwhelmed by not seeing the future, that she hadn’t quite known what to do with herself. She still didn’t…but, it was better now. Noel was in the ‘learning process’ of figuring things out too, so it didn’t alienate her so much.
The silence was oddly comfortable, but finally Yeul broke it. She wanted to include Noel in this process. She didn’t know why. It was laughable to think that a strong, competent hunter would want to join her in the kitchen and roll some mushy sweetness into spheres. Really, it was, but she could try anyway. Perhaps it was just because Yeul wanted him to stay around for a bit longer that she offered for him to get involved. But whatever it was, she did offer, taking over her supplies and setting them down so that they could both reach them. She was delighted when he agreed though, and smiled up at him, green eyes shining with pleasure. Really, Yeul just couldn’t get over how happy he was. Not that he hadn’t always been, but Yeul knew that in the Dying World, he had been weighed down with sorrow from the humans dying and them being the only three left. It saddened her to see him so upset about it, even more then her own sorrow for the people that had to have that life.
Her laughter, -a very rare occurrence while a servant of Etra – came from her lips, softly filling the room at his comment about the recipe book. Lifting her amused eyes, she placed the first rolled ball of dough onto the cookie sheet and proudly looked at her work. After she did, Yeul glanced over at Noel, noting just how he handled the dough, almost like it was some monster that was going to jump up and eat him. Leaning closer, she felt the gentle little smile cover her features. “The dough, you have to worry not about if it will attack you.”, she teased. Handling it though, Yeul became curious. While Noel continued on with the rolling, she pulled out a spoon and scooped out a bit, nibbling it off the end of the spoon to try it. As soon as she started chewing it, Yeul sighed in enjoyment. Washing it and then drying it, Yeul scooped out some more and handed it over toward Noel, offering him some as well. “It’s good, you want to try it?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 1208 Muse:; Great! Noel couldn't help but notice Yeul's subtle reactions to his mention of Caius. He almost wished he hadn't brought him up...but they kind of had to face what the guardian had turned into eventually. His head lowered, Noel listened to her words about him, knowing she probably understood and accepted the situation better than he did by the sound of it. Noel cared for Yeul too - as much as Caius, he believed - but he couldn't...go ruining the lives of a billion people, even ones he'd never met, to find an easy path towards saving her. It just...agh, was it a betrayal of Yeul to think he couldn't go to the same lengths as Caius to save her? No, it probably wasn't, and she would be the first to tell him that. It would still be something he'd do a lot of thinking about over the next few weeks, though. His next few weeks in this world that wasn't his own with a lot of people he didn't know and didn't understand. That left him with one question, though, that he had to ask Yeul. "Yeul...are you happy with the way everything turned out? Can you be...content, living here in this world?"
...Well, if today was any indication, she was. Laughter. She actually had a chance to laugh. That simple action that was an everyday occurrence for most people really made the fact that they were finally past all the death and the destruction. It really felt good to breathe for once. And...to roll up cookie dough, apparently. Noel cut his eyes at Yeul at her comment about the dough as he placed his first circle of it onto the pan beside his companion's. "Who's worried?", he said back with a light tone of sarcasm and a grin to match it. "It can't be any worse than a flan, after all..." At the comment, he took up another section of the dough and formed it out with a curve at the top and a flat bottom before poking two eyes and a mouth into it in a decent representation of a flan. Proud of this small success at making the most ridiculous thing possible, Noel showed it off to Yuel before breaking out into some light laughter and doing the job right again with the formation of another sphere.
As he worked, he had to watch curiously and see what in the world Yeul had in mind with the spoon she was holding. Spoons weren't exactly something in Noel's repertoire, though he did know what they were and what they were used for...soft foods. He hadn't exactly been around too many soft foods in his day. Not since he was a little kid...but that was another thought entirely. Finally, he figured out she was going to try some of this dough with it. It didn't look all that appealing like it was now, but hey, if Yeul was brave enough to give it a try he wasn't going to stop her. He laughed a little again at her reaction. "Must be pretty good," he commented, before she went on to wash the spoon and confirm that he'd been right to assume she'd liked it. Apparently, she wanted him to try it too. Putting the bit of dough he was working on into the pan, he took the spoon from her and eased it into his mouth, surprised by the texture but deciding Yeul was very, very much telling the truth...it was really, really tasty. "We should just eat all the dough," he told her, nodding. "It would save you the trouble." But the recipe wasn't for that, so he figured there was some strange reason why these city people didn't eat the dough by itself. He wasn't sure he could say exactly why, but it would just be another one of those things he probably wouldn't understand for a long time. Words - 709 Muse - Excellent! Notes - Nothing!

Yeul hated to think of Caius, at least in memory of how he had been toward the end. She had loved her guardian as a father figure, a brother perhaps, but…that had all changed. Even if his actions toward her specifically hadn’t been different, and he had still cared for her, been kind to her, held her up through the bad times, there had been the quality about him that was new. She hated to admit that he had been insane, but insanity was where it had led during the end. She had been to blame really. It was hard watching your companion, perhaps your best friend, your guardian, slip into insanity. She had done just that, and looking back caused a weight to settle on her chest. A deep sadness, one that went beyond simply that superficial feeling. Still, dwelling on that emotion, those memories, would do her no good. She had asked Noel for this. She had asked him for a brighter future, and he had given it to her. Even back then, the young woman knew what she had been asking. Knew that it could involve the destruction of Caius. But it hadn’t even been the ‘real’ Caius that had to be destroyed. It was a shell of the man, twisted and embittered by the years.
His question though, it was something deeper. Taking in a breath and gazing at him, Yeul studied his features that were so familiar, before nodding slowly. “Caius was no longer the man I remember from times past there at the end. He could no longer continue in his present state. This saddens me at times, Noel, but the future that was obtained has been worth the pain to my own heart in that area. Joy comes from knowing that those that live in these lands can be free from worry that their lives will be taken by chaos. You’ve brought me a new world, as I asked of you. Happiness comes from being to share that world with those in it, living alongside them as more than a simple servant, a slave to death. All time is a home to me. In every era there has been Yeul. Which era was no consequence to this priestess. But you…Noel. I ask the same of you. Can you be content? Your family…” Yeul trailed off then. He would have family seven hundred years in the future. Would he be upset that he had to give that up for her? For her life, for the lives of the others, he had given that up. Would he regret doing so?
She felt a huge settling of guilt resting on her shoulders then. Hated the thought that he would be unhappy. That he would have to be unhappy just so that she herself could be happy. If that was the case, then she would have rathered that she remain unhappy so that he could have happiness. Her nature was giving, to the extent to give up her own life or happiness so that others could have theirs. It was a constant concern.
Not so much so, however, that when the opportunity presented itself, that she couldn’t laugh. She was learning that more and more as the days went on. Lightening up wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. If anything, it was good for her. This was the prime example. Because truthfully, she wouldn’t have to worry about anything she had before. The problems would be ‘common persons’ problems, just dealing with life instead of being a servant. It was a humbling thought, one she was working hard to obtain. To rid herself of her previous thoughts and concerns and instead just simply deal with her current ones. Not that she had many at the moment, aside from the adjustment. That in itself seemed like a trial. Simple things. How did one…how did they laugh? She had grown up a very serious child every time, laughing was a luxury she hadn’t afforded herself, and yet now here she was, able to laugh at a whim. Household tasks. Sure, she had always taken care of things, cooking simple meals, but now she had to deal with things like the television, and…telephone. These things caused her some apprehension, even if she didn’t let it show.
Simple things seemed to be the hardest things to do.
The familiar surroundings-…or surrounding, helped. Noel was even worse than her with technology it would seem, and having his companionship in this area helped immensely. She might not know anyone really, or much about how to live in a nice house with nice things, but she realized he was in the same learning process as her, and that helped. They could learn together.
Like…cookies!
And flan, apparently. Having been paying attention to what she was doing then, Yeul was forced to look at him when he showed it to her. Blinking once, Yeul stared at it for a moment, wondering at what he had made, before his laughter became contagious and she found herself softly laughing along, eyes bright. Shaking her head, she brushed some hair from her face with her forearm and glanced back down at her own cookies that she was forming. “I think hunting has been your prominent way of life for too long a time period,” she teased, (Another quality she was working at gaining) placing another cookie down on the sheet. And of course, they had to try it themselves.
Gently shaking her head back and forth, she used up the last of the dough to make the last sphere and placed it on the sheet. “We’re supposed to cook them, Noel. Patience,” she said quietly, smiling while she shifted to open the oven and place the sheet inside, careful not to burn herself. Shutting it, she placed her small hands on her hips and surveyed the mess that was there on the counter. This part she knew how to do well. Starting the water going to fulfill her secondary duties, she looked at Noel. “So…what do normal people do? I’d like to learn how, well, to be like that.” Dipping her hands into the soapy water, she started washing while she waited for him to answer the question. And it was a valid one. When Yeul spoke, she had a quality to everything she said that made Noel just have to stand there and listen. Not that he wouldn't listen to begin with, but the years of moral leadership of the village of Paddra must have given her the ability to hold people's attention unlike anyone else really could. He watched her intently as she spoke about Caius. As usual, her own thoughts matched with his own...though he couldn't say he'd really been the one to fix things for her, like she'd asked. He wouldn't be hard enough on himself to say he hadn't been able to help at all, but really, it had been the efforts of the Academy and the former l'Cie that had really fixed everything in the end. Noel had already failed with his way of putting things right, before Hope and the rest got things reorganized and found out what it was they needed to do from Lightning. So Noel couldn't really accept that part of it...yet, anyway. He still had the memory of Serah dying in the back of his mind, and of the Chaos spreading..but he'd get all that sorted out. No one blamed him for it, so why blame himself?
Almost as if on cue, she turned the question on him. Noel blinked a few times, looking at his hands. It was true, he'd thought about how healthy and alive his family could be now that everything was set back to normal, and he did think he'd miss them. But he was happy, there was no doubt about that. Coming to that conclusion, he looked back to the younger girl, smiling. "I might miss them sometimes...or, I know I will," he began, crossing his arms over his chest thoughtfully, "but I already had my time with them. Things might not have been as good as they could have been, but what was important was the time itself." Boy, should he know how important time was these days... "I've made a new family here, and I'm still getting to know them...so I can be happy with that." And he really knew he could be...heck, he had a whole world to try and turn into his family...some might have been more impersonal than others, but there had to be some out there as nice as the people he'd met so far.
Something else that could add to his happiness? Actually having more food to choose from. He did love all the meats and the couple of veggies the village had been able to acquire, but things like cookies? Pastries? Ice cream? Noel thought he'd died and gone to food heaven. And with this food, he could even make shapes! A kid-like thing to do, yeah, but he kind of earned a little immaturity after all this, hadn't he? He thought so. It was worth it to see Yeul smiling so brightly, anyway. Once the joke was up, he started shifting the flan back into a round shape for the cookie, nodding in agreement with her words. "I think you're right...I still see monsters everywhere." Noel did enjoy his hunting, but sometimes it did get to be something he found himself doing in his dreams and his bathing and everything else that came up... Now though, he could turn hunting into something for entertainment or for when they wanted something fresh. And wasn't Fang a huntress? Maybe he could join her sometime...see how they hunted back in her day.
And before long, they were done with the whole process...and yeah, Noel guessed they should actually follow the directions. Raw food was pretty bad for a person, anyway. He'd learned that trying to eat some raw behemoth meat before...he'd been sick a week and a half. "Riiight, riiight," he responded to her cheerily as she urged patience, before turning to stare at his hands. Time to make use of that weird sink thing that served as a well. Taking a quick second to spray off the sticky feeling, he turned to Yeul at her question. And it was definitely a good one. As he started grabbing at a pan that he could dry after she'd washed it, Noel thought it over. "I don't know, really," he admitted, before his eyes shifted to the hallway that led back towards the living area with the windows. "Hope says...people watch television when they need something to do....I don't know how it works, but I guess we could always try it sometime?" Words - 817 Muse - Excellente! Notes -

When had she started to worry so much?
Yeul found herself worrying as soon as she asked how he would do without his family. Really the only people aside from Noel she had gotten close to had been her guardians, she was used to the passing of time and her death cycles taking her away from people, but his life was seven hundred years in the future. Would he grow to resent that he had been taken from that future with his blood family? Would he begin to loath the life he had now been given, just as Caius had? No...it wasn't in Noel's nature to do so. She didn't have to worry he would despise his life as Caius had. Even so, she found herself holding her breath and keeping her focus riveted on the counter where they were now working while she waited for him to answer her.
Her muscles relaxed when he finally did. He was being honest with her, she could tell. Of course he would miss them, she was glad he hadn't just bypassed that and told her that it would all be perfect. He was so...human, it was refreshing to her after being in the company of Caius for so long, especially there at the end when he had been plagued with anger and thoughts of destroying the world. Yes, Noel's honesty comforted her, he wouldn't suddenly go off the deep end and have his entire personality change. But his little speech tugged at her heart strings. "I wish there was a way to," hesitating, Yeul wondered if talking about them would upset Noel, but decided to continue anyway. If he was honest with her, shouldn't she do the same for him? "Bring them here.", she finished quietly. Yeul had known his family before they had died. They had all been good people. Very good people. Yet like all the rest, they had gone as well. Even she missed them, she couldn't imagine the ache he felt. Memories of her own family, decades ago, had dimmed until there was no one beyond Caius and her previous guardian to ever have been a part of her 'family'. And Noel of course. Etro had chosen her at such a young age that she had been forced to give up any thoughts of a normal life or her family. Duty, after all, came before family.
Thankfully Noel was a distraction for her heavy thoughts by forming the dough into flan. Her laughter was something foreign. After all, how long had it been since she'd honestly felt free enough to laugh and show that release of emotion? Teasing him about his nature, Yeul felt a bit of contentment settle, before she finished up and put the cookies into the oven. So what next? The goddess Cosmos had warned her that adjustment to this life might be challenging, and though Yeul had said she was prepared, now that she was faced with the actual need to do so, she found that it was even harder then she'd imagined. Unfortunately Noel didn't seem to know what to do for entertainment either. While she scrubbed at the dishes, she pondered over it, surprised when she felt the dish taken from her and seeing Noel start to dry. It took a special sort of person to lower himself down from his position as a hunter to do such a menial task, but the companionship felt nice, so she didn't comment on it as she continued to ponder what they could do.
But Noel finally came up with something to do. The television? "We could try that!", she replied enthusiastically, before handing him the last dish and draining the sink. "I've never used one either, but it can't be too hard, I'm sure we can figure it out." Right? Though Yeul didn't consider herself a genius by any means, she would at least say she was somewhat smart, and Noel was smart. Of course they would be able to figure it out. Yeah...of course. Smiling over it, Yeul put away the ingredients while he dried the last dish and then stepped back to survey the kitchen. Time to go see if they could get the television working. Turning around, Yeul slowly made her way toward the living room, her eyes glanced wearily at the device. Noel had to stop and ponder again on Yeul's mention about his family being brought here. It wasn't really possible, that much he was almost certain of (unless Hope had another weird device he could build that would ignore what Cosmos had done to straighten out time), but it was something he probably did have to think about from time to time. Would he bring them here if he could? He may have wanted to, but he knew the answer wasn't that simple. He took a few seconds, rubbing at his head, before responding to his friend. "If the future really has been fixed by what we've done here," he began, "I'm sure they're happy where they are now. Or...happy where they will be when their time finally comes around." Yeah, they weren't anywhere now...technically. Getting used to imagining time again as a single, continuous unit would be tough after he'd gone from year to year like he was walking through a set of doors. With the time gates gone, there was only the now, wasn't there? The future couldn't be reached and it hadn't happened yet. Which gave him another thought. "They may not even know who I am. At least they...wouldn't have to miss me?" It was a slightly grim thought, but it was true. Noel could handle being here and having memories of his family in the back of his mind so long as they didn't have to experience the same sort of thing.
Noel hoped they could enjoy having a chance to make cookies they'd never had before and all of the other things he was doing now that, when the world had been dying, he'd barely even known normal people had ever done. Even if he didn't get this whole baking cookies thing altogether, he knew well enough that he could make himself useful...and he knew things that were wet needed to be dried, too. Plus, he knew what in the kitchen he was supposed to dry them with. That was two things he wasn't completely confused about so far. Well, there were obviously more, but none of them really applied while they were here in the kitchen, not yet using anything strange like the microwave that sat ominously beside him. Noel stared at it and the strange set of buttons on it until he'd finished the current plate, before he pushed the plate back into the cabinet and looked to Yeul for the next one.
The microwave actually helped him remember about the television when Yeul was asking what, uh..."normal" people did. Despite the fact that it was really the first thing that came to mind that didn't involve them having to go all the way out into the wilderness, Noel couldn't quite understand why people would think a set of images in some kind of box that you couldn't...interact with and that told about people you didn't know anything about would be something they could spend time on. It just seemed...odd to him, but he was always willing to try anything once. Yeul seemed excited enough about it, anyway, so as Noel took the last of the dishes it seemed she had to clean up, he gave her a nod about it. "I was able to figure out a few things like it while I was helping Serah... Something like that can't be so complicated, can it? Everything here seems to run off a few button presses."
Little did Noel know what all went into making those buttons work, but as he pushed the last plate into place and dried off his own hands, he was pretty sure they, together, could have this television thing figured out.
By the time he'd trashed the paper towel he'd been using, Yeul was slowly on her way out of the kitchen, and Noel followed behind her, eventually sliding past once they got to the living room that still seemed like it should be little more than a rusty old cot and a few mostly-broken tables scattered around with nothing much but a few old books or board games for entertainment. The big cushions, comparatively soft floors and giant television sitting in the room definitely didn't come anything close to familiarity, and Noel knew it would be a long time before they did. Without fear, though, he made a move towards the television to begin looking for the buttons he expected would be able to give the machine life. "How do they get something this flat to run right?", he asked no one in particular as much as he asked Yeul, as he peered down over what the television had to offer. He was used to anything that ran with electricity to mostly need big generators from his time in Paddra...and even some of the stuff here he saw had big power sources. This little thing...was so odd. It looked like it belonged as a floor panel, which was probably how something like this that hadn't run anymore would have been used back in the village.
After a few seconds of searching, he saw said row of buttons on the side of it, all of which said something above them that Noel couldn't interpret all that well because he didn't know what they were supposed to say. He glanced up at his companion, a slight cringe on his face. "Yeul...it says something here, on the side...."

Yeul wasn't sure how to respond to what he said about his family, except to nod along and remain quiet. He was right, really, no matter how much he wanted to see them, they were in the future and he was here. Though she still worried that one day he would severely regret that, for now she let it be. There was nothing they could do about their separation other then proceed and carve a new future for themselves. Yeul was pleased that Noel would be in hers, and hoped that he was as alright with it as he mentioned he was. She knew that parts of him or some different times, such as perhaps certain days that were associated with his family, would ache for that close fellowship, and she couldn't blame him in the slightest. Then again, he had already mourned the passing of each member, which had to help in regards to being alright with how things had turned out. It had to hurt to think that they might not even know him though.
But if he could get over it, then so could she. Remaining quiet, which wasn't overly uncommon for her, she tidied up the kitchen they were in while Noel finished up with drying the dish. Finally she stepped back to Survey it one more time while she listened while Noel said that he'd figured out different things while he had spent time with his female companion. Sending him a small smile, she tipped her head in a nod, "I'm sure you can.", she said gently. Yeul put her utmost confidence in Noel, and so if he thought they could accomplish something, then they must be able to do so. He hadn't failed her yet, so what did she have to base disappointment on? She had asked one thing from him, and despite it being a huge task, he had completed it. Though more people were involved then just him, Yeul firmly believed that it had been Noel that in particular that had given her a future that she could be happy in. That they could all look forward to.
So it was time to get into the living room and put their words into actions. Glancing at the object they were going to attempt to tame, Yeul paused and edged to the side so Noel could get past. When he did so, she followed him until they were in front of the television. Pressing a hand against the front, Yeul marveled at it. Sure, she had seen a lot of different eras in time and a lot of different technology, but she only just realized that she had almost never worked any of it. Caius had usually done so, and she had only to watch him. She realized that Noel was by no means adept in this skill as he was with hunting or sword-fighting, but she trusted that they both had the intelligence to work it. His comment about the flatness made her make a 'hmm' sound, before she nodded. "I marveled across hundreds of years at how advanced everything was.", she said while she slid a hand gently across the front, studying it with her bright green eyes.
When her companion spoke, she turned to look at him as he studied the side of the television. It was only then that she remembered that the language was different in this time then when he had been alive and that he probably couldn't read it. One thing she could do! Scooting toward him, Yeul stuck her head past his arm to study what he was. “Menu…volume increase, volume decrease, up and down channel buttons, input…I’m not exactly clear what that means. The last one…it looks like what they call the ‘power’ symbol. Maybe try that one,” she said almost to herself, before reaching her slender hand out and pressing it. AND-…
Nothing.
"Hmmm..." she mused aloud, before drawing her arm back, a slightly confused look crossing her face. "That didn't seem to work..." Well...what now?

It was sometimes hard for Noel to remember that the culture shock he was experiencing, Yeul had been experiencing over...who knew how long by now. He looked to her from his position in front of the television, as she also stepped up to it. She was having to adjust to thousands of different eras of technology and new things, and he imagined that once she got used to one thing, something else was pushed into her hands to make her learn all over again. All he had to do was get used to all of this once, and he was fine. Hopefully, she wouldn't have to learn about anything new beyond what they had before them now, either...unless someone invented it while they were alive and they could get used to it along with everyone else on the planet. How had anyone gotten used to a little device like this one in the first place, though? It didn't seem...like something that would turn out to be common. Noel had known they existed before, but...to have one sitting here in front of him was something different entirely.
And even reading what was on the side was going to be a problem. He leaned back again from the writing he could sort of understand in parts - he got increase, decrease and channel in theory - to let Yeul take over and figure out this great mystery he'd been presented with. But...most of what she said didn't make much sense either. Input? Menu? What did those have to do with operating this television? Noel raised his eyebrow at all she was saying, getting ready to follow up by asking her what any of it was supposed to mean, before she spoke up to say she'd found something that looked like the power button. Now power, he understood. Every machine had to have power. "Go for it," he encouraged, quietly, as he watched her do just that. His gaze shifted from her hand, reaching for the button she'd indicated, to the screen to see if anything replaced the bleak, black image that currently filled it. He waited, extremely patiently, for something to happen, but there was nothing to see. No images like Hope had talked about, or even the sound of the thing starting. Just the click from the button Yeul had pushed and nothing else.
"Okay then...", Noel said under his breath, giving the top of the television a light pop to make sure it just didn't need some coaxing, as with so many machines back in Paddra. Not a thing, aside from his wondering that if he actually hit it if it wouldn't break in two... It certainly wasn't a sturdy machine. Noel stood back from it, resuming his position beside Yeul and staring at it like one of those damn clock puzzles he'd tried to solve with Serah. He'd hated those things, and they'd even been less confusing than the sleek little device in front of them. So...yeah, that was saying something. But Noel wasn't one to let things like this beat him. If there was a monster he didn't think he could fight, he went out and sought a way to defeat it. If there was an issue with weather in Paddra, he figured out a way to get people and important things sheltered. Now...he was going to figure out this television if it was the last thing he ever did, forgetting about unimportant it probably was.
"Hope said it runs off of some kind of a signal that brings in the pictures it shows," Noel announced, suddenly remembering that part of their conversation because it was one of the few he fully understood. "Something with a...receiver, like an antenna but...I dunno, he called it something specific when he was telling me." His eyes settled on Yeul again, shrugging. "Maybe we need to get that signal going before we can turn it on. I remember, back in Paddra we had to get signals for some of our radios by moving them around to different places or putting them at an angle...I would guess that might work?" Setting his jaw with that in mind, he stepped up to the television, inspected it, and started to lift it off of the stand it was sitting on. It wasn't heavy (not that it looked the part), so he easily moved back a little bit, in front of where Yeul was standing, and sat it on the floor before her. With that done, he plopped down on the floor with it and went for the same button she'd pressed. Again, a click, but nothing.
"Maybe that...wasn't far enough? Or we need to turn on the signal?" At this point, he was just spitballing, because he had no clue whatsoever.
