The brunette’s footsteps were light, almost silent. She had just gotten away with a small amount of materia. Yuffie had got it from a little hideaway in a cave in Wutai. It was deserted, and had been for years and years before. Nobody had stepped in there for decades. She had been the first person in ages, and it had taken her days just to get through. There had been lot’s of overgrowth, and she had got a few cuts from all the plants. She’d tried her hardest to wrap them up as best she could, but she wasn’t an expert at things like that.
Clutching the small bag, she looked around her surroundings. She wasn’t entirely sure of which way to go. These caves were filled with tunnels and dead ends. Legends of people dying in these caves weren’t rare to hear. Her father’s advisors often spoke of not trying to reuse the caves, against Godo’s wishes. She shook the little bag, watching the small orbs shake and hear them click. She released a sigh, and her eyes flickered. Five tunnels. Four weren’t right. One was. Her heart skipped a beat, and he started to feel a little creeped out by all of this. She held her breath, and sprinted down some tunnel.
The brunette rounded a corner, and she skidded into a stop. Yuffie groaned. She had run in a perfect circle. Her hands twitched. Now she just wanted to leave. Leave and go anywhere. She didn’t care. She didn’t want to be stuck in some cave, or stuck in Wutai for that matter. She’d do anything to get out of what she was used to. She wanted out of routine. That’s why she came here. It was a change. She needed adventure, and this had been the perfect opportunity. That was until she realized that it had been a bit of failure. Yuffie had never actually been very good at directions. Unlike some people.
Brown eyes closed for a minute. She had a sort of feeling she should go for the third tunnel this time. When they opened, she almost feels like a pulsing was coming from over there. Well, it seemed logical. But also illogical at the same time. Her eyes opened, and she sprinted down the tunnel. A sense of déjà vu went through her mind, and she didn’t notice anything around her for a moment.
A drop.
Nothing was supporting her, and she fell. Nearing the side of a cliff, she reached out and tried to grab anything. ”Holy sh-“ She was cut off. Her frame was thrown against the rocks, and she tumbled down, landing on her back with an echoing thud.
The shinobi groaned, before trying to pull herself up into a sitting position. Her raised a hand up to her head. Her head felt like it had been smashed against a rock. But then again, it had. She tried to stand, when a sharp pain shot through her leg. Yuffie hissed in pain, and looked at her leg. A deep, long cut from her knee down to her shinbone was layered in blood. It didn’t look the nicest, and it hurt like hell. ”Great~!” She whined, before flopping down on the ground. The grass felt mysteriously soft.
Wait a second. Grass?
She sat up abruptly, a little in awe. The place around her wasn’t like any place on the Planet she had been to. It all seemed a little strange. Yuffie rubbed her eyes for a second. ”W…where…?” She shook her head. That wasn’t important. She felt a little confused. How did she get here? She flopped down on the ground, once again.
”I think life hates me.”

Well this was a bust so far. Rubbing his face, leaving marks without realizing it, Maqui flew the hoover he was sitting on, keeping one hand lazily on the handlebars while his other hand tapped on the touchscreen pad he had propped up on the front, glancing up periodically to make sure that he wasn’t going to run into one of those flying monsters that liked to try to eat him when he wasn’t paying attention. Seeing nothing in front of him, but keeping track of the ones to the side in case they got any ideas, Maqui bit his lip and peered at the coordinates that he had typed into his GPS – as well as many other gadgets included- device and sighed, slowing the hoover down until it was simply doing what it was named for. Hoovering in the air. Without moving, Maqui glanced from the little touchscreen and then leaned over the edge, looking down at the ground and wondering if he could be in the right spot. The beeping made him think so, but it didn’t look like there was anything down there. Aside from the grass that covered this whole area. So…much grass.
Even after living in Gran Pulse for years, Maqui still wasn’t really used to how nature-y this place was. Having grown up in Bodhum had helped with the whole adjusting thing, but Maqui really wasn’t used to beasts around every corner that could eat him in an instant. Yes, coming out here by yourself was risky to say the least, but he had enough experience with guns –one of which he had placed in his scabbard of sorts, built into his hoover- to be able to take care of himself. If he needed to, Maqui could always take off in his hoover. That would help to get away from all the ground creatures. The flying beasts could present more of a problem, especially since they moved so fast. But he had beat that too. Having had a close call plenty of times with the vouivre, Maqui had placed jet boosters in his vehicle, so as to be able to get a little extra speed. It was still exciting, but at least he didn’t think he was going to get eaten.
Landing, Maqui shuffled around, lifting the touch pad and got off the hoover, shutting it off and sweeping the little machine in his hands back and forth over the ground. At one point the beeping increased rapidly. Raising his brow, Maqui glanced at the screen, seeing what he needed flashing there. "Woah...why here?" Why were the deposits of the metal he needed here? Of all places to be…the Archyle Steppe was definitely not one of the places he had figured it would be. But…well, he had to check it out since he had come all this way.
He was just prepared to start digging when a bright light flashed through the sky. Throwing up a hand to shield his face, Maqui closed them and then opened them when the light had finally passed. What…what had that been? Blinking to rid himself of the spots on his features, Maqui threw his things on the hoover and hopped on, curiosity leading him to turn it on and get higher into the air. He wanted to go check it out! He could always come back to dig up the metal he was after, a certain type-…well anyways. Yes, he could come back at some other time. Kicking his machine into a higher gear, Maqui started on his way, keeping a lookout for somethi-“Woah, what’s that?”, he questioned finally, narrowing his eyes to peer forward. What was it that he was seeing? Looked like…somebody? The next moment he noticed the pack of Gorgonopsids that were stalking whoever the person was. “HEY!”, he shouted out, revving up the engine to get to the person quickly. Hopefully in time to get into firing range. Leaning back, Maqui slipped the gun he had in it’s little scabbard and propped it up against he handlebars, trying to get into firing range quickly. Snow would be able to be the hero in this situation! So he should too! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 879 Muse:; Great! Tagged:; Yuffie Outfit:; Click!Location:; Archylte Steppe's? She didn’t know what to think, or do. She didn’t know anything about this place, and she felt a little vulnerable. Everything seemed so foreign. Yuffie wasn’t even aware if there were any sort of dangers, and she wasn’t expecting anything. Her eyes were glassy for a while, before they widened at the sounds. Definitely strange… She thought it was. She wasn’t used to this, and she didn’t like feeling like that. She sat up, and hugged one of her knees, keeping her cut leg straight. She couldn’t help but wince at the sight of it. It had to be around eight inches, and pretty nasty. She sighed.
Yuffie searched her pockets, and looked at what she found. A tissue, her phone and her materia. She smiled a little. They were useful things to have in pockets, especially with her predicament. She turned on her phone and she looked through it. She glared at it. It was practically useless out here. She stuffed it back in her pocket, a little unhappier than before. Then her attention moved to her materia. She opened the small bag and counted each glowing orb. They all seemed to be accounted for. It would be rather annoying if she had dropped some during her fall. She had worked hard to get that materia, and she wasn’t going to let it go that easily.
An animalistic noise echoed, and her eyes widened. Just when she thought things were bad, they had to get worse, didn’t they? Had she done something bad in a past life that made her have such bad luck? It wasn’t entirely impossible. However, she had already decided whatever had made that noise was almost definitely hostile. It sounded like bad news, and she didn’t fancy becoming some animal’s dinner. It didn’t appeal to her one bit. She slowly stood up with her eyes squeezed shut. After standing steady, her eyes opened and she could see what things were so loud. Whatever they were, they didn’t seem very happy. Her eyes searched for her Shuriken, before spotting it a few yards away. She hadn’t been noticed. Yet.
The shinobi moved towards her Shuriken and gripped it; pulling it free from the ground it had been embedded it. A little bit of earth stuck to it, and she brushed it off, looking at her targets. She knew her throw wouldn’t be direct. She felt a little off, and she almost prepared herself for the worst.
”Hey!”
Yuffie looked at whoever shouted. Her eyes quickly shot back to the Gorgonopsids, and the same eyes widened. What he just indicated, was that these were a threat. Her grip tightened on the Shuriken, and she released a deep breath. In a way, she was almost relieved. She didn’t like the thought of being the only person around here. However, the situation was a bit more important. But then she looked him again. She grimaced. Just looking at that thing made her feel sick. Anything that she had to go on, that moved made her motion sickness act up. That’s why she preferred good old walking. She had to obviously travel on some vehicles sometimes. But she didn’t particularly like to. Then her sight caught the gun he had. Seemed this guy was trying to play hero.
She bit her lip when the Gorgonopsids turned their attention to them both. They had both been noticed, and they didn’t seem like they wanted to make friends. She lifted her Shuriken behind her head, and squinted her eyes.

Zooming toward the beasts, Maqui flipped his machine gun out from its holster behind him. Driving with one hand, Maqui steadied the gun on the handlebars and looked through the scope at the beasts. A pause, a breath, and then he squeezed the trigger. One of the animals roared and fell to the ground. Legs convulsed momentarily before it lay still, stretched out. Maqui turned his attention toward another one right after that. He had dealt with plenty of monster in his day. Heck, that was all of what NORA was about! Keeping Bodhum, and then New Bodhum, safe from harm. Except…he wasn’t with NORA anymore, not really. That had all changed when Maqui had moved to Academia. Wanting to get out there and make a name for himself, Maqui had done so, and now he worked with Hope and was…well basically an inventor for them. A prestigious job. Sometimes he felt inadequate to do so, with all the other inventors having gone to fancy colleges, but…then he had something placed in front of him and it was all fixed in his eyes.
Still driving toward the beasts, Maqui turned his eye down the scope of the gun yet again. Hesitating, he squeezed off another shot, another beast jumping in the air and yowling, before dropping down and dragging its leg. But still it was going to attack. Maqui really did hope that thi-…was that some sort of weapon she held in her hands? He really hoped so, because he wanted her to be okay. And then he was right there, lowering the hoover toward the ground more. “Hey! Give me a hand,” he half shouted at her, reaching his left hand down, while trying to balance the hoover and keep the gun in his hand and hold his left one out at that same time. Holding it steady with his elbow, Maqui heard the snarl of the beast right before it jumped at the hoover. Without much of a physical reaction, Maqui snapped up the rifle and fired off a shot. He knew how to use a gun, knew how to use one well, and besides that, he’d had years and years of practice with these type while in NORA.
Still, the girl had to grab his hand so he could pull her up and onto the hoover. Down there, she might just get eaten. Yup, that meant that she had to get up and onto the hoover so that he could pull up and they wouldn’t get eaten. Maqui wasn’t going to kid himself. He knew that these beasts could very well eat him, and he also knew that they should probably get away as soon as possible. “It’s okay, reach up here, we’ve gotta get away from them.” Maqui had no way of knowing that the girl would hesitate because she would get motion sickness. And if he had known, Maqui might not have suggested that she clamber up behind him. The last thing that Maqui wanted would be puke running down the back of his shirt. Nope, he’d rather not have anything to do with puke happen today, but they had to get up and out of range. That way he could be sure that she was safe before he finished them off. Really, she could just be some random girl that had gotten lost…out in the Steppe’s? Well…anything was possible.

She knew these things were hostile, just by one little look. Yuffie could just tell by the way they looked, the way they acted. She didn’t know what they were though. She didn’t have them in her world. Or, if she did, she had never ran into them. They were a mystery to her, and thus, didn’t know how to beat them. Put her up against a Bahamut, she’d be fine. However, she was at a disadvantage against these. Yuffie gripped her Shuriken, before launching it at one of the monsters. It slashed them, and it wailed. That was when Yuffie grimaced, before looking at the hoover. She knew her motion sickness would make her less alert, and not as good at fighting… but would she rather get eaten? No question there! She thought, before going to grab his hand. She would have to risk being sick. She didn’t overly fancy becoming monster chow. If she did, she would’ve been eaten ages ago. And that would just be a waste, wouldn’t it? However, Yuffie hesitated a little bit. What was to say, this guy was more dangerous than the things on the ground? It was unlikely, but anything was possible, right? She couldn’t be sure, but she had a better chance with him… probably… And besides, it wasn’t like she couldn’t handle herself. She could easily get herself out of trouble.
Yuffie threw her Shuriken once more, before quickly making her way over to the hoover. She was about to take his hand, when he swerved a little. She looked at the monster about to swipe at her, and jumped backwards, landing on her hands before throwing herself up in a standing position. When would these things give up? However, this time she dived for his hand and gripped it with her right one. The sooner she got off the ground, the better, right? Well, she hoped so. Yuffie clambered up behind him, and put her hands on his shoulders to support herself. If she fell off, it would be a nasty fall, and a possible messy business. She placed her Shuriken behind her. ”Watch it! Those things don’t seem to want to give up.” Yuffie released a breath, before groaning. Her stomach was churning, and she felt like she could be sick. That, and she didn’t overly fancy being sick in the air, or on somebody else for that matter. It would be majorly embarrassing for one thing, and gross. Still, Yuffie swallowed, and leant behind her to touch her Shuriken. She needed to make sure it wouldn’t slip, or she would be weaponless, except her tiny ninja stars and ninja daggers. She put her forehead against his back, trying to stop it from making her feel worse. ”We need to…. We need to get out of here…” She muttered.
Yuffie then brought her head up for a second, to throw her Shuriken towards one of the ‘things’ as it leapt up to try and knock them out of air. She wasn’t sure if it worked or not, since it only seemed to have knocked it out of the air. However, it seemed to have quickly recovered, and it seemed to be angrier than ever, it that was even possible, of course. It spat and snarled, and Yuffie felt like it was going to attack once more. Once her Shuriken returned, she put it back behind her and her hands were placed on his shoulders. ”We need to go….now.” She whispered, a little unsure about everything. She didn’t know this world, or it’s people. She didn’t want to expect, so she was preparing for the worst. That was the best thing to do, right? That was better than expecting the best. She shook her head, trying to rid herself of any thoughts. Yuffie needed to focus on this. This was most important, what was happening now. What would happen would happen. There was nothing that could predict that. She just hoped that whatever controlled the future would be on her side. She already had bad luck, she didn’t need anymore! Yuffie had bad luck at getting lost, and even landing on wherever she was. That reminded her, she would have to ask where she was.
Yuffie bit her lip slightly before speaking. ”Hey..uh…where am I?” However, as much as she would have loved to make conversation, the monsters were glaring at them. It seemed, almost, that they were planning something. What they were planning, Yuffie did not know. And honestly, she would have rather not found out. After all, like mentioned before, she would have rather not become monster chow. It did not appeal to her. Then, her stomach lurched and she groaned. Stomach felt like it was in her throat. Yuffie winced visibly before looking over his shoulder. This had to be one of the different worlds everybody kept speaking of, you know. The ones you walk through the portal and end up somewhere different each time. But she would have not rather gone to all of this trouble just to see all this. Still, the landscape had been a dead give-away. Yuffie had practically gone all over the Planet. She knew it like the back of her hand…right? Maqui was glad when the girl came running toward him and the hoover. He had never been the most level headed person of a group when it came to situations like these, but after years of being in NORA and taking care of beasts and monsters that went on the rampage, it was almost like he was just putting himself back there. He knew what he had to do. First, make sure the civilians were in a safe location. The civilian would be this girl. Second, take care of the situation. That would be shooting the monsters. Unfortunately, the girl hadn’t clambered up behind him yet. Trying to shoot with one hand and keep the hoover steady was a challenge, but thankfully Maqui had always been the mechanical and technology oriented one of the group. He’d never been more thankful for that then he was now. And feeling her clasp his hand and hop up behind him made him worry less. This whole hero thing was hard! Very hard! Too hard!
With a grunt, (Which always helped and made these situations more dramatic!) Maqui swerved the hoover away from the monster that had jumped up to try slashing at the young woman and at the same time tried to swing her up behind him. That actually seemed to work, and a moment later, probably due to her good reflexes and quick action; she was seated behind him on his little hoover craft. Her statement made sense of course, and he nodded wildly. “Got it! You hang on tight, alright?” Swerving a little to the right, Maqui leveled his high powered machine gun and took a few more shots at the monsters that were still trying to jump up to reach him and the girl. A few didn’t connect, but he hit enough so that they yelped and eventually started to scatter, going here and there to try and get away from the person that was inflicting damage on them. “Oh ho yeah!”, he called out lightly.
She seemed awfully concerned that they needed to hit the road. Not quite sure why she was so adamant about leaving, he just shrugged and agreed. “Kay! We can leave, no problem,” he said in good nature, shifting around slightly to hand her his gun. “Can ya do me a favor and shove that back down underneath my leg? I can’t reach with you sittin’ there,” he explained, motioning toward the scabbard that was underneath his leg on the right side, built directly into the machine.
Then she asked a weird question. Where was she? Keeping his eyes on the horizon as he flew through the skies away from any danger of the monsters, Maqui thought for a second. Well…they were from Cocoon, even if they had been here for roughly three years. Maybe she’d just wandered a little ways from home? “This is the Archylte Steppe's,” he mentioned with a smile. “Did you not read any about history in the three years since Cocoon crash landed here on Pulse?”, Maqui teased, not realizing that she was from a different world. She looked normal, sounded normal, and seemed to dress normal, so he had no other indication that she would be from another world or anything like that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 703 Muse:; Great! Yuffie managed to push down her motion sickness for a while. Despite still feeling a little nauseous, she didn’t think that she would puke everywhere. That was definitely a good thing. However, that still didn’t help her situation. Yuffie was somewhere she didn’t know, which meant she was more vulnerable here than she was back in Wutai or Midgar. Usually she could use her training to her advantage. Scaling buildings, that kind of thing. That seemed to be an entirely different case here. She wasn’t really used to this kind of terrain. Even Wutai had dirt roads and a lot less grass. It felt a bit weird, though. But Yuffie couldn’t complain. She was just glad this guy came before she became monster chow. She might have been able to handle herself, but she was used to different monsters. Everything seemed like a huge surprise. But this was not a nice surprise. No way. It was definitely a bad one.
Her eyes flicked down at the monsters, trying to figure them out slightly. She didn’t recall seeing anything like these. That seemed to puzzle Yuffie slightly. But only slightly, of course! She slipped a ninja star out her pocket, and held it in her hand. She threw it at the closest target, and watched as it lodged itself in its shoulder. ”Yes!” She cheered, grinning slightly. They both seemed to be hurting the monsters, making them back away slightly. That was definitely a good thing. Yuffie nodded, and her grip tightened slightly on his shoulders. She didn’t need to be slipping off and falling. She already hurt her leg; she didn’t need anything else to happen. Yuffie released a breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding when the monsters backed off even more. It was a relief. Still, it was still a dangerous situation they were in. Was it really that bad that she wanted to get out so quickly? She just didn’t want anything seriously bad to happen to either of them.
Yuffie cocked her head as his shrug to begin with, and then she relaxed a bit. She released a sigh of relief. Finally. Her posture slackened a bit more, and she took his gun. ”Sure.” Clasping her hands around it, she slipped the weapon into the scabbard beneath his leg. It was obvious she was a lot less tense now.
Yuffie shifted slightly in her seat, and winced slightly at the uncomfortable shape of her Shuriken digging into her back. ”Hey…” Yuffie scratched the back of her neck, sheepishly. ”Thanks for…uh… picking me up back there.” She put her hand back on his shoulder, and went the tiniest shade of pink. But then she was confused. What was Cocoon, and Pulse? Yuffie didn’t know anything about what they were, and that was that, really. ”… what’s Cocoon? And what’s Pulse?” She definitely knew she wasn’t on the Planet anymore. That’s when a thought hit her. Did he not know that she wasn’t from here? Maybe that’s why he was teasing her a little. That seemed to make sense. Well, to Yuffie, anyway. ”I think I ran through a portal by accident…” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 708 Muse:; Really Good! They sure made short work of those monsters! Maqui expertly maneuvered the hoover he was on back and up, taking it into the air and away from the threat of the beasts that roamed Gran Pulse. Even after three years of living here, Maqui still got caught by surprise when it came to the power of the beasts that resided on Gran Pulse. When he compared it to the beasts that had been on Cocoon, there was hardly anything you could even compare. Not only were they made up completely differently in genes, but just…there was a brute force behind these beasts that there hadn’t been in the more domesticated beasts of Cocoon, even if they were just that, beasts. They hadn’t been so hard to dispose of when they needed to, and Maqui had had to make serious adjustments in his abilities when they had been forced to live on Gran Pulse. Now, he would rather it down here, but he knew to simply avoid certain beasts, knowing that he couldn’t handle them on his own. What he needed to do was rig his hoover with a high powered gun that he could fire large bullets from. He made a mental note to complete that as they flew through the air.
He lifted a hand in a thumbs up when she took his gun and slid it back into its scabbard, built right into the machine they were now flying on. Maqui was just thankful that she wasn’t one of those people that asked a million questions about a simple thing like that. He found himself relaxing a bit too, and feeling a girl sitting behind him. That made his years turn red. He didn’t often have a girl sitting behind him on a hoover. So what did you say in this situation anyway? Not that he was noticing her while he had his eyes peeled ahead of them, but he still felt that familiar feeling of not having a clue what to talk about when there was a girl around. He wasn’t a girl, and hadn’t had any sisters, so the only times he’d really been close to a girl was Lebreau and Serah, and in his eyes, they weren’t really girls. But her thanking him did feel good! “Hey no problem! I’d hate to have seen ya get all eaten up or something, you know? Can’t let that happen, but you’ve gotta be careful around those things,” he said cheerfully.
But when he asked her about Gran Pulse Maqui opened the can of worms. Her explanation caused him to groan. He’d heard about the portals of course, and was working up close and personal towards them with Hope and a few others on the researching team. Though he’d talked to a few people that had come out of the portals, there was still that fact that they were unsteady and they couldn’t just cart these people back through the portals they had come out of to head on home. “Oh man…you’re not even from here?”, he burst out, only mildly distressed. Well that complicated things. He had been just going to drop her back off at home and that would have been that, but…now he was going to have to take her to the Academy. “We’d better get you back to the base so we can sort it out,” he mentioned dryly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:;[/color 735 Muse:; Great! Well, this place sure had it’s surprises… Yuffie knew that much. Monsters, blonds and hoovers all in the same place. There was a lot of change from what she was used to, that was for sure! It all seemed rather odd, and she wasn’t used to it at all. If she had been in her own enviroment, like Wutai, those monsters wouldn’t have lasted one minute! Actually, it all depended on how many there were. She was sure she could take two in one minute, or three in one, or was it one in three… or something like that! Long story short, they wouldn’t have had a chance against the Great Ninja Yuffie, Single White Princess. They were bloody lucky beggars now she was in the air. If not, it would be monster butt-kicking time! What was a huge monster, when she had the Leviathan as her guide? However, Yuffie wasn’t at her best fighting point here. The enemy had the upper hand. Well, not for long. She was positive she would get used to this kind of terrain, and be able to be her usual kick-ass self! Just a matter of minutes… well… maybe a little longer than that. She was still feeling a little disorientated from the fall to begin with…
Yuffie looked at his thumbs-up and pressed her own against it. She did it all the time with the kids in Wutai, after teaching them a few shinobi tricks, of course. It was just a habit she had… like a high-five really. Not that much of a difference! Except it had a different body part and everything like that… but that wasn’t the point! Her eyes squinted. Were his ears turning red? Oh… She smirked. So, this was a new experience for him then, yes? But, Yuffie decided she wouldn’t tease him about it just yet. Hold onto the moment, keep it in the box, open it on a rainy day. ”Yeah, I have to say… Getting eaten doesn’t exactly sound like a good idea to me…” She shrugged, and grinned. Getting eating was definitely not something she had high on her list of ‘Things to Do Before I Die’ list. Yup, it was unranked, so very, very low down. ”Careful, huh? I’m afraid I don’t know the meaning of the word.” She joked. Eh, she could be careful when necessary. She just preferred not to… was that so bad? Yuffie chuckled a little, before shuffling. Stupid, sharp, shuriken spike digging into her back.
Yuffie tilted her head. Was it that bad that she came from the Planet? Surely it didn’t mean anything, right? Still, she didn’t like being judged because of where she was born. It wasn’t a decision, nor a choice. It was annoying her now. That’s when it hit her. Of course! Even she was wary of people who fell out of portals. She just forgot she was know one of those people. She crossed her arms. ”Yeah, what of it?” Yuffie then quickly wrapped her arms around his waist. Nope, letting go was not an option, or a good thing to do in the slightest! You just felt like you would fall off. Talk about scary! She shook her head. ”Nuh uh! No way! Not gonna happen!” She sighed. ”I’d be fine by myself! I was handling it!” Yuffie insisted. The truth was, she didn’t really want to meet more people and get stared at by them, and asked numerous questions! That would be awkward. ”And no way, am I being questioned over and over!” Questions made her feel a little strange. Like an interrogation. Well, it kind of was. But that didn’t change the fact it made her feel awkward! And she tried to change that whenever possible. However… so far? No luck. Maqui grinned when she mentioned that being eaten definitely didn’t sound like fun. “Nope…not at all. You never know, some people might have getting eaten on their bucket list. What a…way to die? Being eaten. I guess it’s better than, say, spontaneous combustion?” Hey! Who wouldn’t want to die of randomly bursting into flames? At least they’d go out in a blaze of glory. HA! Blaze! It was funny, because flames…and blaze. Yeah! It was super duper funny, and had him laughing to himself over it. Perhaps he needed to get out some more, because the oddest things had been making him break out into laughter. Well anyway, he didn’t doubt that the word ‘careful’ didn’t seem to be in her vocabulary. Honestly, she sure as heck didn’t seem to care if she got herself into trouble. That being said, she also seemed able to get out of it herself, what with that giant shurikan at her disposal.
He should have known that she would be adamant about not going in to the base. Almost groaning aloud, Maqui contained himself and continued to peer ahead of them. “Heeeeeey, calm down, alright? They aren’t going to bite your head off or anything when we get back to base. They’re good people there?”, he mentioned hopefully. What could he do if she really decided to…like, throw herself off the hoover and lay there not moving until he left? Well, not much, but he could try to drag her along or something. Riiight, the best option around women that didn’t want to do anything was to simply drag them along or try and force them. If there was anything he had learned from Rygdea keeping that wild Pulsian woman, Fang around, it was that if a woman didn’t want to do something, then they didn’t want to do it, and that was that.
He could still remember when the ancient woman, still preserved in a nice body of course, had literally dug in her heels when Rygdea had been trying to get her to do something. Maqui couldn’t even remember what it was, but he just remembered that Fang had literally stood there glaring at him, not budging an inch, until he had acquiesced and had told her she didn’t have to do it. Come to think of it, Maqui decided it had been that one time, when she had thrown some poor soldier through the wall after he had forgotten to say the ‘Gran’ part while he was talking about Pulse. To her credit, she had asked him kindly to add it, and hadn’t thrown him through the wall until he had questioned why anyone had to put it in their speech. Rygdea had told her she needed to apologize…but yeah, that hadn’t happened, obviously. Instead, he had learned that you simply tried to…persuade them. Not that he was that great at persuading, but hey, it was a work in progress.
Sighing lightly at how stubborn she sounded, Maqui decided right then and there that it might be a lot easier said than done. “They’re not going to question you over and over and over,” he said a bit desperately. “A few questions, yeah, but more importantly, they can set you up with a place to stay while we try to figure out a way to get you back to wherever it is you came from. They’ve got the best equipment possible for the situation, so your best bet to getting anywhere, would be to come to the Academy. I promise they’re not monsters,” he pleaded slightly. The sooner they got there, the sooner Maqui could get back to his shop and work on mechanic things instead of having to talk to some girl he had never met before. Another reason why he needed to talk to Snow about women, because they sure confused him.

She tilted her head to the side, and almost snorted at his comments. Yuffie shook her head, holding back her laugh. So, now they were talking about ways of dying? Well, that was a very odd conversation subject, was it not? It seemed they were just filling up awkward silence, then. Still, that would be better than just sitting there with nothing to do, right? Awkward silences made Yuffie just want to do something spontaneous. ”Hm, thanks for the idea. Guess I’m addin’ that to my list.” She teased, elbowing him gently in the back. Eh, it was all in good fun, right? Besides, it couldn’t hurt to have a few laughs. Before she found a portal back to Wutai, or even the Planet would be fine enough for her. She knew her world well enough to navigate a route back home. Could take her a while. After this hoover ride, she would try and avoid all types of transport for a long while.
Yuffie ‘hmph’ed, before she frowned. She wasn’t sure about this guy. It was, like, she mostly trusted him. He had just saved her from some monsters! But, at the back of her mind, there was one part of her that just screamed ’Don’t trust him!!!!’ Yuffie made a small noise at the back of her throat, confused and slightly distressed. It had only just really dawned on her that she was in a different world, and her cell was more than likely broken from the fall. So, no way of calling her kith or in, either. Yuffie leant back, crossing her arms. ”I told you. I can handle myself. Besides, I don’t trust people without a reason.” That part was true. She trusted Tifa, Vincent, all of those lot. She trusted Ethan, and even this guy. Because of reasons. Whether it was a joint attack on PSICOM or being saved from monsters, there were reasons. Yuffie clutched her stomach slightly. She felt nauseous again, only this time, slightly worse.
Yuffie was stubborn. Most people around her knew that. And persistent. Once she had an idea in her head, she would do it, and nobody could persuade her otherwise. Like, the way she had to restore Wutai to it’s former glory. That was something she would do for certain. Not just for kicks, or herself, or Godo, for that matter. It was for all the Wutaiians. She didn’t want their home to be a tourist attraction anymore. It was just awful. Still, Yuffie was getting along with it. She was trying. She was sure there wasn’t that far to go. She had already gathered 3 years’ worth of materia, and all sorts of things. Plus, her father had been gathering materia, but not in hordes, like herself. But, maybe she would have her home back to it’s old self. Not long.
She gave a sideways glance to him, before looking down at her feet. ”How do you know that they won’t, huh?” Yuffie countered back. She then looked down. A place to stay, eh? That wouldn’t be so bad. She would need to sleep somewhere, right? The ground wasn’t comfortable, she knew that from experience… ”Fine! Fine!” She huffed, looking out the side, before gulping. She looked back forwards. Nope. Looking down was out of the question. Not. Going. To. Happen. ”I don’t know you, or where I am, for that matter. However, I just about trust you.” Yuffie straightened her back. ”One mess up, and I’m gone, got that?” She spoke in a serious tone. ”I’m holding you to that promise, by the way.” The people back on the Planet were much easier to understand than the people here. Mind you, she did know most of them. In Wutai, anyway. Not in places like Edge or Central Midgar. People just couldn’t sit still, right? But, that was kind of hypocritical of Yuffie. She hadn’t staying in more than more place for a long while. ”I still don’t know your name. Or specifically where I am, to be honest. Mine’s Yuffie.” She held her hand out in front of him, for a brief shake. It was a habit she had, to always shake hands when meet people. Guess those lessons were really drilled into her mind. ”I come from Wutai, on the Planet… Uh, I guess I mean Gaia.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 930 Muse:; Great Tagged:; Maqui Outfit:; Dat one that I linked :3 Location:; Archylte Steppe’s Listening To:; Mad World by Adam Lambert Notes:; Hope dis is ok :3

She was going to be difficult. He could just somehow tell, and he was used to women that were difficult. The problem was that he wasn’t at all used to dealing with the women that he knew were difficult. All the women he knew, he didn’t really…well, he wasn’t so good with girls that weren’t Lebreau or Serah. The women that were around Academia were those like Fang, who…was just insane, so he didn’t know if he even wanted to understand her, and Vanille, who wasn’t much better in the whole ‘sane’ area. Jihl? That was a laughable thought. The only one he thought wasn’t insane was Alyssaa really, at least of the prominent female figures around Academy. So unfortunately, Maqui wasn’t very used to girls and thus, this probably wasn’t going to go well with this female. But he would try!
“I’m sure you can handle yourself, but…but the folks at the Academy will give ya’ a nice place to stay where ya don’t have to worry about being eaten everywhere you go.” He tried to persuade her that way, not really thinking she would be buying it. Hopefully she would, he was just trying to help her, not drag her down or anything, so she would have to realize that, right? RIGHT?! Right! He was a good guy anyway, just trying to be like Snow and be a hero in his life. Well…without the fuzzy head of chocobo hair Snow had gotten along the way. Maqui didn’t want to be like Snow in hair choice. Well okay, so she didn’t want to trust anyone. He could understand that, but…but that didn’t mean…well whatever, he just wasn’t so sure how to deal with her.
So now she was interrogating him? With a little sigh, Maqui glanced over his shoulder at her, still wishing he was back in his shop, underneath some machine and fixing it, rather than trying to talk some girl into coming to the Academy. “Because a good friend of mine is one of the most prominent figures in the place, and he wouldn’t do anything like that.” Yeah, Maqui doubted that Hope could ever really do something bad to someone that didn’t deserve it. If only he knew what the silver haired youth had tried to do to Snow…
But she surprised him! With a grin, he nodded when she determined that she would actually trust him, but that she would be gone if he tried to pull anything on her. Well he could deal with that, after all he wasn’t going to pull any funny business, so it didn’t really matter, did it? “Alright! Well you don’t have to worry about me or anyone, they’re all nice, champs actually.”, he said confidently. And he could understand where she was coming from, as she had mentioned, she didn’t know anything about where she was. Yuffie? Interesting name. “Well Yuffie, it’s nice to meet you! My name is Maqui, and you’re on Gran Pulse right now! Home of everything that likes to eat you,” he said with a grin while he piloted them. Poking at her arm, he then pointed ahead of them at the looming city. "And that, is Academia!"

Yuffie’s brown eyes darted around, trying to find at least one thing that looked familiar. But alas, it all seemed to foreign, it was strange. Even the flipping air seemed different! Talk about weird. She bit her lip slightly. What if the portal had closed up by now? What if she couldn’t get back to Gaia? Yuffie would always say to her father ’Leave me alone!’ However, the thought of not having him around still frightened her. But only a little. There wasn’t really much point in feeling scared, was there? Maybe Maqui was right. Maybe they would help her get back home. However, she would still try and find her own route if they seemed untrustworthy.
Yuffie sighed. Ok, she wasn’t giving up, or waving the white flag. Nothing like that! She was just… Oh! What was the phrase? Temporarily going to the other side! That must be it. ”Ok… I guess..” She shrugged and shuffled in her seat slightly, before tensing up. Goddamnit, those stupid monsters had made her senses even more alert than usual. That was annoying. Her grip tightened, and shuffled herself closer to his back. Just a precaution! She wasn’t scared of the monsters, or nervous of meeting these people of anything! Ok… maybe she was a little, but not a significant amount, right? Yuffie released a deep breath. She was glad her motion sickness hadn’t been as bad as it usually was. However, she would definitely need to empty her stomach of it’s contents straight away when she got off.
Yuffie nibbled on the left corner of her bottom lip. Nope. She did not like this feeling she was getting in the pit of her stomach. Or was that sickness? Oh god, she should’ve known better than to flipping tempt fate! She groaned, before putting her forehead on his shoulder. ”Can we go faster please? Like now!” She pleaded. Yuffie put on hand over her mouth. Keep it in, keep it in! Do not puke! Don’t you dare puke, Yuffie Kisaragi! Her pep talk to herself seemed to be temporarily working. Key word: temporarily. She was sure that same damned feeling would come back rather soon. ”I just hope your ‘good friend’ doesn’t mind me puking in his place. Aw jeez…” Ok, this just had to be bad karma. Ok! Ok! She was sorry for all the times she disobeyed direct orders from her sensei, and all that. Just stop it!!!
The brunette nodded. Maybe, it would be better if she trusted this guy. After all, he seemed pretty much decent, and that was good, right? Then again, never judge a book by it’s cover. Eh, but she wasn’t entirely judging him. She’d known him –what, fifteen minutes? Less than that? And he seemed pretty cool. Yuffie out anybody who saved her into her good books, so all was well. ”Ok, Gran Pulse. Now that I think about it, it sounds a little familiar. It wasn’t where Vincent came, that was Valhalla, so, maybe it had been somebody else?” She mumbled the second part under her breath, before sighing. ”Jeez, all these portals are annoying.” Yuffie felt small poke in her arm, and she looked over. Her eyes then widened, and she whistled. ”Woow, I was not expecting that.” She chuckled lightly. It was even better than the ShinRa building, or even Yuffie’s home! And her home was big… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 750 Muse:; Great Tagged:; Maqui Outfit:; Linked Location:; Nearing Academia Listening To:; Inside Out by Hillsong Notes:; Nada!

Maqui didn’t quite know why she sounded so weird, but when he turned his head to look at her slightly, he knew that something must be up, after all, she was sitting there with her face practically tinged green, looking like she was going to throw up all over him. Maqui had never had anyone throw up on him, but he could clearly remember the one time the student in school had thrown up all over the school nurse. The kid had looked just like the young girl with him did right now. Oh boy…oooooh boy! He really didn’t want to be thrown up on! At all! So when she mentioned throwing up, a somewhat horrified expression came across his face. It wasn’t that he hadn’t seen blood or guts or something, but he really didn’t like the thought of being thrown up on. That was what mothers had to do! And why he wasn’t a mother! “Awww jeepers creepers, just try to keep it in for a little while, would you?”, he begged, subconsciously increasing the speed of his hoover so that they would get to Academia faster, all the while hoping internally that she wouldn’t throw up all over him.
Thankfully she seemed to be able to hold it together slightly, and didn’t look quite so ready to puke when he mentioned where they were. Well, it was shocking to find people from another world, but he couldn’t say that it was all bad, at least not if they would just learn to trust him after all. For heaven sake, he wasn’t going to hurt anyone that came to him needing help, especially not people from other worlds. He would probably spend more time trying to get away from the thought of being around people than do anything to prolong his being around and harm them. But…they didn’t know him from anyone, so he could see, he supposed, why it was that she might think that he would do something to harm her.
And here all he wanted was to just avoid being puked on.
Wait. Woah, woah, woah. She knew someone that had gone to Valhalla? “Valhalla is kind of a….world between worlds around here. Nothing ages in Valhalla, as time doesn’t exist there…it’s crazy you know someone that ended up there.”, he commented slightly, glancing over his shoulder at her, mostly to judge if she was still going to throw up all over him or not, but also because he wanted to see her if she started to talk about her friend that went to Valhalla.
He felt a little pride when she expressed that she hadn’t been expecting anything like Academia. He didn’t think most people did around Gran Pulse…as the land was as savage as possible, and fiercely rugged, untamed. If Oerba Yun Fang, one of the only remaining ‘locals’ had any say in it, nothing would ever change and there wouldn’t be huge cities like Academia. Thankfully, she didn’t question Rygdea and Hope’s decisions much-…well, okay, that wasn’t true, she did, but she usually at least begrudgingly agreed by the end of their long debates. “Yeah, she’s something isn’t she?”, he asked while he piloted them through the beginning of the city. Instead of continuing though, Maqui pointed out a large building. “That’s the Academy, we’re gonna hop off there.”, he said in explanation while he glanced around them and started the process of landing. “Just hang on tight and try not to puke before I get us down,” he warned, still worried she was going to throw up all over him.

She would’ve put both hands over her mouth if it meant she wouldn’t start to fall off the hoover. The hoover. That was the thing that had started this whole sickness in the first place. If only she hadn’t got on. That might’ve helped. But then again, she would’ve been eaten instead. She felt green, and groaned a bit. Stupid motion sickness! Damnit! It just had to act up at the worst possible moments! She half-listened to him, before looking over his shoulder. Yuffie managed to suppress her sickness just a moment, to giggle slightly. Really? Seriously? Jeepers creepers? She giggled a bit more. ”I’ll try…” She said, grinning slightly. She couldn’t help it. Who said that nowadays? Yuffie then squeaked at the sudden speed change and screwed her eyes shut, holding on tighter. ”Not helping!” Did this guy actually want her to puke all over him? Because so far, that’s the road they were heading!
Yuffie tilted her head at him, confused. A world between worlds? That was strange. Perhaps like the Lifestream? That was between the space and Gaia… but then again, the Lifestream was kind of the Planet, in a sense. Maybe she’d ask him if it was like that. At the moment, she was just holding her stomach in. But then, if nothing ages in Valhalla, it suited Vincent perfectly! Especially since the guy was about fifty but looked in his late twenties. Talk about some freaky science. Yuffie shrugged slightly. Valhalla had now sparked her curiousity. Hopefully she’d find a portal that lead there… NO! WAIT, what was she thinking? Go through all of this again? Hehe, no thanks!
Yuffie shrugged. ”I guess Valhalla suits Vincent well if nothing ages there. Told me he met somebody there. Can’t remember her name though…” She pondered on this thought for a second, before shrugging again. ”Eh, I dunno. I guess Valhalla is like the Lifestream then, you know.” This was just a guess Yuffie was having. She didn’t know if the Lifestream stopped people aging. She hadn’t died yet, thank Gaia! ”’cept I’ve never died, so I dunno what it’s like. However, there are some rumors about it…” Surprsingly, her sickness was dying down a little, but she still felt a little nauseous. Stupid sickness. Why couldn’t it effect Cloud more than her? Still, he did say she could grow out of it. Eh, one could hope.
Yuffie nodded, and looked at the Academia. It sure was impressive. ”You’re telling me. It’s great.” She admitted, whistling again. Jeez, it was a sight to see. Then again, this whole world was. Talk about a major change of scenery! When they started going down, Yuffie’s stomach lurched. ”Aw jeez!” She groaned and really hoped he would land the damn thing quickly. Soon enough, the thing had hit the ground and she scrambled to get off. Landing on her knees, she groaned and looked around for the nearest thing and saw a bin. Within seconds she was puking her guts up inside of it. A few moments later and stood up straight and groaned. ”Hehe, sorry ‘bout that.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 696 Muse:; Great Tagged:; Maqui Outfit:; Linked Location:; Academy, Academia Listening To:; Inside Out by Hillsong Notes:; Nada!
