Instantly he slowed when she yelped that the increase of speed wasn't helping. "Sorry.", he muttered out. As much as he would love to get there as quickly as possible, the threat of her puking all over him was enough for him to slow it down again. No way on Pulse was he actually going to do anything that might encourage the behavior. Gulping lightly, he kept begging internally that it wouldn't happen. Like he'd said before, blood and guts didn't bother him, since he'd had to see plenty of that, but vomit? No thank you! He'd witnessed a girl in the Academy throw up and he'd had to run for the bathroom himself. Maqui hated the thought even, and instantly blocked it from his mind. Surely there were better things to think about than throwing up anyway. Like...anything but that. Literally, anything....absolutely everything.
Thankfully she seemed to become distracted from being sick when they started to talk about Gran Pulse a little bit. Maqui himself relaxed a bit, thinking that the danger had passed completely. Breathing a sigh of relief, he could then concentrate on her having known someone from Valhalla. Well that was strange...though why not portal there? It wasn’t like you couldn't anyway... Her pondering about this man having met someone made him rub at his head. "Uh...uh...was her name Lightning? Yeul? Serah?" All of those girls could have been the woman that this Vincent had met. Lightning was the most likely option, but it could have been someone else too. And what was a lifestream anyway?
Before he could ask, he pointed out the Academy. Hardly any time left and they could be on solid ground and he wouldn't have to worry about being puked on. Expertly piloting the hoover, Maqui turned them around and started to land it on the pad that was laid out just for hoovercrafts of the Academy, many times where Maqui came in after he had been on a long expedition, though he still tended to take Cookie out with him as well. Her words made him feel that the urgency was back. Hardly had he landed when he felt her bail off. Maqui slumped against the handlebars, extremely glad that he'd managed to make it back and that he wouldn't be puked on. So..so-oh God! Maqui caught the noise that she made while she was retching. Almost instantly he felt bile reaching his own throat too. Opening his mouth wide, Maqui inhaled deep breaths to try and calm his own stomach. While he battled it down -which was hard considering he still was hearing her- tears came to his eyes, and his hands eventually linked over his stomach.
Just when he thought he might lose it though, she stopped. Maqui finally, after some more calming breaths, managed to find the courage to actually look at her. Thankfully there was no vomit all over the place, though he was still dizzy. When she apologized he waved it off, not trusting himself to speak really for a few more seconds. Finally he thought he had a grip and gulped. "No...it's okay...just makes me sick myself.", he explained, before dizzily getting off his hover. Gulping again, Maqui started to walk it toward the garage, still not trusting himself and trying to mentally block it out again. "Yo Maqui!" Maqui looked up at the officer that was walking toward him, and then glanced over at his companion. "Pick up a friend Maqui?" He nodded, still suppressing the tears and cleared his throat. "Her name's Yuffie. A portaled girl.", he added, instantly getting some recognition. "Hello Miss!" Almost instantly he turned back to Maqui. "Commander Hope is away," he said sadly. "Apparently miss Vanille got him to take a bit of a vacation.", he commented. Great...the one day he really needed him. "How about Rygdea?" "He took off with that she-devil of a huntress and said something about not being bothered." ...Well wasn't that nice. "Okay, thanks Jeff. I guess we'll go and see a few of the researchers," he commented thoughtfully. "They've been making quite a bit of progress lately, so they should be able to help. Oh! And before I forget, Yeul called and asked if you would come and explain to her how the television works again since Commander Hope is away." Maqui nodded. "Sure thing! Hey, wanna put this away for me?" With the soldiers agreement, Maqui tossed the keys over and turned to look at Yuffie. "Oh...and welcome to Gran Pulse miss.", the soldier said with a smile as he drove the hoover away. "You ready to go?", he asked with as big a smile as he could muster.

Yuffie’s green face faded a little, turning back it’s normal colour. Slowing down the hoover had made a bit of difference. She didn’t feel quite so nauseous, but throwing up had proven useful in some cases. She screwed her eyes shut, but knew it was no good. It was going to happen. She was going to vomit. Yuffie had tempted fate, and now it was hitting her in the face… with a chair… repeatedly. ”S’ok.” She mumbled, holding her insides in. Aw, please hurry up hoover. She didn’t want to get it covered in her puke. That would mean she would have to do something to fix it… maybe. Well, not really. She could just go portal-hunting for something. Find some way to get her home safely. Couldn’t be that hard, right? Just wander in and out until she finds the one back to the caves. Not so hard, right?
Valhalla. She wanted to go see their now. If Vincent spoke of it, then it must’ve been pretty cool. He didn’t speak about much. That was something she didn’t know why. It was weird. Yuffie coughed a little, before shrugging. He had mentioned a name, but it would take a bit of thinking to get it out. It was something easy to remember, she knew that. Something similar to Cloud, perhaps? T was something similar to that. Then Maqui said Lightning. It hit her like, well, lightning. ”Lightning! That’s it. I knew it was something similar to Cloud.” She grinned to herself. And who said Yuffie was bad at remembering things? Pffft! Weren’t they wrong. Point one to the The Single White Rose of Wutai! Others, nil. Okay, she was starting to exaggerate this a little too much. It was just remembering something. Not an overly big deal, right?
Yuffie felt terrible. And that was a flippin’ understatement. She felt worse than terrible. She felt horrorific, horrible, and whatever other synonyms there were for classify the word ‘bad’. She shuddered. Why was she the one that had motion sickness? Why couldn’t it be Barrett, or Tifa, heck, even Cid, and that was saying a lot. Know that she thought about it, she hadn’t seen the engineer for a while. Might have to go pay him a visit when she got back to the planet. Not if, just when. She was definitely getting back. Yuffie heard somebody say her name, and then a hello. She held her hand up as a ‘hello’, before slowly standing up straight. Well, she did feel a little bit better, getting that out of her system. Mind you, it was easier to get sick on an empty stomach. Oh.. just blast it all! Yuffie nodded, and slowly walked over to Maqui. ”As ready as I’ll ever be.” She shrugged, and kicked the ground lightly. ”Where we goin’?”

Oh…he was so glad that Yuffie was no longer throwing up. He just couldn’t believe that he had actually managed to hold it all together while it had been happening. Usually even the thought of puking made him…made him…oh Etro, he was almost going to throw up right now just by thinking about it. Instead, Maqui pressed his hands against the sides of his head and took in deep, gulping breaths to try and tone it down again. Oh man…oooh man was he going to be thankful to be at the point where he wouldn’t think about throwing up an-…WHY DID HE KEEP THINKING ABOUT IT?! It was like some awful song you got stuck in your head on repeat and it wouldn’t go away, except he was going to puke all over if this one didn’t go away! Happy thoughts…happy thoughts.
Like something that didn’t involve pu-
NOT AGAIN!
Okay, he needed a better topic in his head. Like…liiiiiiiiiiiiike…oh yeah, so she’d seen Lightning. She wasn’t sure if she meant a person or just a cloud when she mentioned that it reminded her of cloud. Who named their kid cloud anyway? Someone that had a serious obsession with the sky or something, that was probably who. At least Lightning wasn’t her real, given name. That too would have been kind of a strange name. And Snow…what was with everyone naming their children after elements anyway? He didn’t quite understand. If he had kids, he would name them super awesome names! Like…Maqui, or Gad-…no, never mind, those names were already taken. How about…Jackson? No, he didn’t really like that name. So that left….hmmmmmmmmm……a lot, but why on Gran Pulse (had to fit the Gran in there or else Fang would probably somehow know and try to obliterate him) was he thinking about names for children anyway? It wasn’t like he was going to be having kids anytime soon…unless-…well it wasn’t possible! He didn’t know much about-…well, that, but…okay really, puking was almost bett-
WHY?!
He was really going to throw up if he kept thinking about it.
Thankfully, she was ready to go. Nodding his head toward the direction that the soldier had taken his hoover, Maqui held out a hand to beckon her toward him. “Come on then, I’ll show you inside the Academy. Hope and Rygdea, the leaders, are off having…dates with their women right now apparently, and that generally is the one thing that they never like being disturbed while doing, so until they get back, I can show you a place to stay and everything, just so you feel comfy. If you decide not to stay or something, I can always help you…get someplace else to stay in the city?”, he asked questioningly. Almost instantly Noel and Yeul’s temporary apartment came into mind. If she really hated it here, he could always go over and beg those two to allow her to stay the night. Noel might not be so for it, but Yeul was a sweet, calm, nice person. She would let her stay, and he had no doubts that whatever Yeul wanted, Noel would do for her. That seemed to be a common theme between people that were dating…or…well yeah. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 711 Muse:; Good! Tagged:; Yuffie Outfit:; That one I linked! Finally, that feeling was gone! She hated the aftermath of motion sickness, whether that included puking or not. It was just nasty. Especially the taste afterwards. That was bad. Terrible, even. Yuffie spit into the bin quickly, and then shuddered. Yeah, not nice. She could name all the words to do with that, and she would be feeling it. Yet, there was a small lingering feeling of excited, and nervousness. Jeez, was she feeling conflicted! She would have to make herself think of a different topic. Yuffie shuddered again. Stupid aftertaste. It was GROSS! Like, seriously! Still, she had a feeling that she partly wanted to find a portal to go home, but also to stay a while, even if it was just a while. Couldn’t hurt, right? But, then she also had responsibilities back home. Then again, when did she care about responsibilities? Surely Vincent could hold the fort at WRO for a while. She had for him, so then it was fair!
And, it wasn’t like she had to rush home back to Wutai. Godo could definitely wait. Hadn’t he wanted to speak to her about something important when she got back? Aw well, it was probably something silly, like ‘etiquette’ or ‘princesses are not ninjas’. Did she ever listen? HA! No way! Yuffie would be a ninja over a princess any day. Even when she was about four years old. Most girls wanted to be a princess, she wanted to learn how to use nunchuks. Yet, alas, she had not learnt until her thirteenth birthday. And she had kicked ass with them. It had been expected. Yuffie hadn’t used her nunchuks for a while. They would’ve been useful in her situation earlier. Oh, it didn’t matter. She could just get some here, right? If this place had them, anyway. If not, Yuffie could just go and practice when she got home.
Yuffie approached Maqui, with the slightest bit of caution. No harm in that, right? Sure, he couldn’t hurt her… maybe… but there was no harm in taking some precautions. See? And people said she was reckless and careless. PFFFT! She raised an eyebrow casually, and just shrugged. ”…Ok? So, my choice is either staying here, or staying in the city?” She sighed, and shrugged once more. ”Guess it’s better than sleeping out there, right? Or fumbling around looking for portals…” Things weren’t really in her favor right now, were they? They certainly didn’t feel like it… ”Can’t be too bad, right?” Yuffie asked, and, in a way, she was pleading for some reassurance. Reassurance that she wouldn’t get eaten in here, instead of out there. Nope, that was not appealing. Nuh uh, no way. She’d rather listen to Cloud brooding…
And that was saying something!

Maqui found that he was slightly holding his breath while he waited for her to decide what she was going to do - either stay at the Academy or out in the city. Honestly it didn't really make that huge of a difference. All he knew was that he couldn't wait for Hope or Rygdea to get back so he wouldn't have to take care of this by himself. It wasn't that he disliked Yuffie, no, it wasn't that at all. The problem was that Maqui wasn't a social butterfly by any means, and he hadn't really been dealing with the portaled people at all. His job was to study and try to come up with a way to fix this problem, not try to play the mother figure and find them places to stay. And it wasn't that he disliked helping people either...it was just...uncomfortable for him.
Rygdea was the charmer around here anyway, and Maqui would admit it whole heartedly, and willingly. He was a little in awe at that man and how easily he seemed to get along with people...and how he had gotten Fang to fall for him. That was a battle axe of a woman, and he was still slightly-...okay really afraid of her. The point was that Rygdea was so much better equipped to deal with something like this, and Maqui felt a little uncertain now that he had figured out that both the big figures of the Academy were gone for the day. Perhaps...he should go find the other blonde inventor around the Academy. Alyssa was a whole lot better equipped to take care of people and actually know what to do with them.
At least she seemed to have caught on! Nodding eagerly, Maqui gave her a big grin when she mentioned that it had to be better than sleeping out in the elements. "Oh yeah! They have food twenty four/seven, so you don't have to worry about going hungry, and they really do provide things for everyone. We can get you a nice place!", he said enthusiastically. It was true! People around here seemed great about giving you what you needed! He had been surprised actually; about how nice the people were around the city, even though he had been pretty nervous about coming here.
When she asked him about it, he nodded and stopped at the doors of the Academy. Giving her a glance and smile over his shoulder, he nodded to her about it. "Oh yeah, everything's great around here. I live here too right now! In fact, I'll be just a few doors down if you need me or anything.", he offered to her while he reached forward to punch in the code for the door they were entering. Though you could get in the front fine, anywhere on the back or side you had to punch in your code and use your tag to get in. Opening the pad, Maqui typed in the numbers and then swiped his card. "Access granted.", the electronic sounding voice spoke, before the door unlatched. Opening it, he waved Yuffie through first. "Come on, I'll show you around!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 690 Muse:; Good! Tagged:; Yuffie Outfit:; That one I linked! Location:; Academy entrance Notes:; -- Listening To:; Rush
