He petted the chocobo’s head softly, and sighed a little. He usually came to the stables when he wanted to think. A little bit of alone time. Sure, he liked being around his friends, but everybody needed a little bit of time out, right? He liked to think so. The feathers peeked through his fingers. Ace always found being around chocobos calming. And since he was around them an awful lot, he seemed to be always so calm. He patted the chocobo, before reaching in his pockets for a gysahl green. He knew the bird was rather fond of them, and he placed it by it’s beak. Ace smiled slightly as the bird ate it, before he petted it’s beak. The blond always carried some spare, especially if he was out. You never knew when you would run into a chocobo and needed a ride. Better safe than sorry, anyway. That’s what Arecia always told him when he was young.
Ace released a breath. He really should be leaving now, to go train or work. However, he felt too content here. All the more reason to leave… He thought. If I stay any longer, I might not have enough time to do the things I need to. He still had a lot of work to do, and his training was more than vital, after all. Ace would rather be strong enough to fight than not be able to fight at all. He needed to protect people and protect them he would do. The blond nodded good-bye to the chocobo, before making his way out of the stables. When he reached the exit, He started to walk to the training ground. Now that he thought about it, he hadn’t been there that day, yet. If he was in luck, he could train hard and he could train well. Ace trained as hard as he could, but he wasn’t one to go mad with training. He had to think of other things as well. He had things to do, things to plan for, lot’s of things. That, and he needed to make some time for those around him. He smiled slightly.
Ace blinked for a moment, stopping where he was. A thought had just crossed his mind. An almost strange thought. Or a bit more like a memory. A memory he had almost forgotten, but he quickly thought of something else. He didn’t need to be thinking of stuff like that right now. He needed to train, and focus on that. It seemed the best thing to do, anyway. When he reached the training ground, his eyes squinted. He could make out somebody training, but it was too far away to guess who it was. He stood there for a short while. Is that…? He started to make his way closer. Light blue eyes stopped squinting, and Ace looked at his fellow classmate. He should’ve known somebody else would be there. Not that he minded. It might do him good to train with somebody else.

It was that time of day, wasn’t it? With a deep breath before charging forward, bright blue eyes looking at the targeted lines that were spray painted on the field ahead. He needed to test his strength, as always. Nine always liked being the tank of the group, thus, training was important. Usually he came out here to the practice field to throw javelins whenever he was stressed or pissed off beyond all belief, today though…Nine was just frustrated. He’d had to spend a whole bunch of time stuck with Trey and Queen working on some stupid project for stupid class and his stupid group was assigned by one stupid Kurasame Susaya. Needless to say, he thought of the entire day as being stupid. With an angry huff, the hotheaded dragoon threw himself forward, longer legs taking longer strides before a half skip step, and then he launched the javelin with his right hand as hard as he could, squaring his feet afterwards and watching to see where the piece of equipment would land.
With a grin spreading across his face, Nine gave a fistpump and his usual rough sounding grunt. “Hell yeah!” He called to himself before jogging across the large field to retrieve his weapon. Noting its landing spot, he started trotting back towards his release point, ready to try and get the javelin farther than he’d gotten it the previous time. This was a good training exercise seeing as he fought with a lance, able to be used like a spear or javelin in battle. Nine was one of many who depended on strength, especially upper body strength like the arms, luckily being the tank that he was, there never was much of an issue when it came to his strength. Trotting back to the starting point, Nine then whipped around, looking at the marked lines on the field again. Taking a good number of steps backwards and adjusting his grip on the javelin in his right hand, he rolled his shoulder back, doing that every single time that way he didn’t throw his shoulder out while launching the equipment across the field.
Starting forward at a slow pace and carefully pulling his arm back, he picked up his pace, getting to a run, the half skip step and then a launch of the javelin. Rolling both of his shoulders after that, he felt a grin on his face once more, feeling quite satisfied with himself. As Nine was ready to go after the second thrown javelin, he heard his name. A voice he knew well, and didn’t expect to see out here at this time of day. Normally Ace spent his time in the library, right? Oh well. Turning around and placing his hands on his waist, Nine gave a grin, still pleased with himself obviously as he greeted his younger friend with a nod and of course, his rough speech added with it. “’Ey, Ace! What’cha doin’ out ‘ere?” he asked with a small tilt of his head, giving Ace a rather friendly look, but he still wanted to get back to his work out, still, he could spare a few minutes for Ace, it wasn’t too much to ask for now was it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 625 Muse: Good! Ace should've expected Nine to be training. He knew that Nine was one of Class Zero who trained a lot. Still, that was like saying it was easy to expect Ace to be in the library. Not always true. He was willing to let Nine carry on training, and he could always come back later. But wouldn't that benefit them both if they trained together? They couldn't rely on just training by themselves. With company, you could learn to find where the weak spot of a person was, and the best techniques. Ace looked around for a second, before facing Nine once more. Either way, he was going to train today. Whether it be now, or later. Ace needed to brush up on his techniques, and combinations. They needed to be flawless. Or, as flawless as he could get them to be. He had seen Nine's first lance throw, and he had to admit that was a rather good throw. Ace didn't rely on pure strength. He relied on something different; skill and magic, mainly from his cards.
He cleared his throat a little, before nodding at Nine. "I came here to train." He answered. "I can wait for you to finish, if you like." The blond was more than willing to do so. It was good to respect others decision, wasn't it? And so, he would respect Nine's. Plus, Nine seemed like he wanted to carry on. Where was his right to get in the way of that? If anything, he would have encouraged it. Ace was always one to encourage his classmates to improve and get better. It would be best for them, right? Typical Ace, always thinking of people. He tilted his head back at Nine, crossing his arms. After a moment, he hummed a little. Surprisingly enough, it was the only song he managed to memorise. However, after realising he stopped. The song's meaning was right for this atmosphere, not now, anyway. Ace coughed a little, before dropping his arms by his sides, and his head straight forward again.
Ace released a deep breath, before looking Nine. "The weather is good for training today, isn't it?" He asked casually, trying to keep the conversation going for a short while. Although silence was golden in the library, other times talking was better, was it not? Besides, Ace was needing a little bit of human company. Chocobos and books could only do so much. Still, human company wasn't like anything else. Ace put one of his hands in his pockets, the other laying still and unmoving. He wasn't sure what to say now, since he knew Nine wanted to train, and Ace was probably disturbing him. "Am I disturbing you?" He had to make sure. He looked at the javelin nearby them both, and he guessed why Nine insisted on using his lance as different things. Well, he was guessing. He would have to ask later, to check, anyway. Ace clenched and unclenched his fists before smiling at Nine. "Have you begun working on the project?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 541 Muse:; Really Good! Training was almost an everyday thing for Nine, though there were many days where he just lazed around and did nothing, including not going to class. Unlike King, Nine DIDN’T train every day, but with the way he fought and his physical strength, you’d think he was an everyday trainer. Having thrown a perfect strike with his javelin, it was then Nine noticed the new bit of company that was entering the field, speaking to him and drawing him away from the training he was really getting into. Still, there was always time for family, for Class Zero, and Ace was no exception. So, he came here to train eh? Good idea, that kid was a whiz at magic and book learning, but he probably could hit the gym a few times a week, maybe lift some weights under the supervision of a strong person just in case something were to happen. Nine smirked ever so slightly at the thought. “Ah, it’s cool, I was jus’ gonna finish up anyways.” He said with a small shrug of his shoulders, turning back and shielding his eyes from the sun to see where exactly his weapon for the time being had landed.
Still feeling confident, Nine let out a sigh of satisfaction, folding his arms behind his back and grinning foolishly. He was very happy with himself today, aside from the whole being trapped against his own free will to work on a project that he didn’t give a damn about. Hearing Ace again though, Nine dropped his arms and turned back to the smaller and younger blond, nodding slightly and feeling as if the conversation was just a filler. Who talked about the weather these days anyways? “Ah yeah, It’s sure is. Ain’t too hot, nor freezin’ cold, seems pretty perfect t’ me.” He commented, just adding onto the filler of a conversation, it wasn’t as if Ace was bothering him, in fact there were a couple days where he certainly enjoyed the company of his card-dealing friend, but on other days…it was basically a vendetta against everyone.
Some days Nine was happy, other days it was one of those ‘touch me and you die’ sort of deals.
“Nah you ain’t botherin’ me, In fact, if ya want we can spar a bit, work up those skills of yours…and mine.” He gave his younger companion a slight wink before trotting over to grab his javelin from the ground, holding it up and resting it against his shoulder as he came back towards Ace, hearing about the project. That got Nine started. With a painful and miserable groan escaping his lips, his shoulders slumped, his head hung a bit as he shook it from side to side, placing a slightly irritated look on his face as he struck the javelin into the ground and folded his arms. “I was paired with Queen and Trey, of course I’ve started AND finished it already. Great ain’t it? I was only held in the library against my own free will for nearly half o’ the day.” His words dripping with sarcasm. “An’ you?” he asked curiously, raising an eyebrow and figuring Ace had it started, planned and nearly finished. Hopefully he hadn’t been paired with people who were…just not his type. Now, Ace, Queen and Trey…that would’ve been an automatic A for a project. Oh well. “If Kurasame ever expects me to work with them on another project like this one…I’ll…give ‘im a piece of my mind!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 687 Muse: Good! Now that he thought about it, Ace hadn't trained yesterday... well... not much, anyway. He kind of regretted that. But he had been a little bit busy. Schoolwork, mainly. He had been really busy with that. He wanted to excel in school, because that would help his fighting. A win-win situation if he did well. But he needed to train a lot. He was physically weaker than some of the others, and one day, he would need some strength. It wouldn't hurt though, right? It would help him. End of. He really needed to get onto that, anyway. He needed to perfect a few things. Ace had felt like a few of his fighting 'ways' had been lacking an awful lot, lately. Well, that was just him, anyway. "Oh no, it's fine." He nodded, looking at his classmate.
Once he realised what he had said, Ace inwardly groaned. Really? Who spoke about the weather for crying out loud? It was the main question for when you didn't know what to say. He scratched the back of his head, sheepishly, looking down slightly. "Heh...yeah..." He looked back up, and looked at Nine's lance/javelin. He made a mental note not to do that again. It would only spell disaster, after all. It was an unwise move to bring it up again. But he still wasn't sure that he wasn't bothering Nine. There were days when you knew not to bother him, and he really hoped that this wasn't a day like this. It would just be downhill from there, and then Ace would have to try and escape while he could. Joking.
Ace cocked his head to the side, slightly. Spar? That was what he had been thinking a while ago, wasn't it? What, did Nine read his mind or something? Well, he doubted that, but the younger blond nodded, straightening his posture. "That would be good. I need to brush up on my techniques." However, Ace cocked his head a little again at Nine's wink. Huh? Well, then it would turn out this trip wouldn't be a complete waste of time. He would be training, and with Nine. Live target practice? No, Ace wasn't that harsh. Of course, when Nine started being sarcastic about the project, he was a little bit more confused. Until then he understood. Obviously Nine hadn't wanted to hang around in a library, or anything like that. Or maybe he was missing the bigger picture...? Ace shrugged. "I've almost finished. I'll finish it off later tonight." It was true, he only had a little bit to do. Give him half an hour that evening and it would be finished.
Ace laughed lightly at Nine's next comment. "Oh, really?" He chuckled. He would like to see that. "Remind me to be there when that happens." He joked, crossing his arms. Sure, it would be funny to see what would. Like, would Nine actually do it? And what would Kurasame's reaction be, too? He released a breath, calming down after his little fit of laughter. "You know, you could just ask to be placed with different people next time." He commented, still smiling a little brightly. He rubbed his mouth furiously, trying to stop himself smiling so widely. Nine didn’t mind packing it up early if Ace wanted to talk or even use the training field. It wasn’t like Nine necessarily NEEDED the training, he was a big enough tank as it was. Though he wasn’t completely bulky, he still had the strength (and the stubborn personality) of an Ox. Waving his hand around, Nine shrugged his shoulder, brushing off Ace’s words and just figuring it was about time to pack it up anyways. “I was pretty much done anyways, don’ worry mmk?” he spoke, trying to assure the shorter blonde that his words were real, he was going to call it quits soon enough, best do it now before he overworked himself and became sore. Not that Nine was in bad enough shape to really ever get sore, but hey, everyone had their limits, didn’t they?
An idea though…instead of packing it up, it seemed that Ace came out here to train, that’s what he’d said after all…and Nine wasn’t quite ready to give up the training field…why not make this a win-win situation? “Alright, kid. We’ll do some trainin’, but don’t think I’m gonna go easy on ya just ‘cuz yer smaller than I am, and because…well ya can teleport, I can’t.” he said with a small shrug and a cocky grin on his face. Nine always loved a good spar, he was sure that there were many things both he and Ace could work on, you never knew when you were going to come across someone who fought with prominently magic and…cards. Or in Ace’s case, against a strong temperamental dragoon like Nine. All and all, this was going to be interesting enough to say the least. “Jus’ remember to keep yer eyes open at all times, though I can’t teleport like some people, we dragoons can jump very high…so watch yerself shortie.” He poked a bit of fun at Ace, patting his shoulder and turning around to take a few paces away from his card dealing friend, putting some space between them for whenever they were to start their…fight.
On the subject of the project, Nine just didn’t even want to think about it. He was done complaining…not really, he was sure to whine and complain until the cows came home, but whatever. It was all Kurasame’s fault for pairing him up with Trey and Queen, the absolute…WORST group ever. Trey, Nine could handle…but Queen with that attitude of hers? Picking on him and being sure to tell everyone in the world that his ‘stupid’ was contagious…it was just so aggravating. “Yeah, Next time Kurasame has the nerve to pair me with those two…he’s gonna get an earful.” Nine threatened almost darkly before shooting a glance at Ace, wanting to be there to see that, eh? But what really caught Nine’s attention was the words about asking to be with a different group. Nine just couldn’t help it, he snorted out a laugh, a loud laugh as he rested his palms on his knees. “Yer kiddin’ right? Kurasame would slap me across the room before he’d change his plans for me. Next time I plan on skippin’ out on the project altogether.” He admitted honestly before leaning up and standing to his full height, feeling his lance summon into his hand as he rested it up against his shoulder, tapping it slightly there as he looked to Ace, waiting to see if he was ready.

The more time Ace spent standing there, the more amusing the situation seemed to become. However, he didn’t want to become a nuisance by wanting to use the training field. He could easily just come back another time. He could go quickly finish that project, or go see what some of the others were doing. Ace listened to Nine, and nodded. He did perhaps over=think things a little too much. But he was working on that. ”Ok, if you’re sure.” He wasn’t sure himself, but if Nine said it was fine, then it probably was. Ace put on hand on his hip, and rubbed his face with the other. Maybe he hadn’t been getting enough sleep with everything going on. He definitely knew he kept on waking up for some reason. Still, he didn’t put much thought into it to begin with. It probably wasn’t that important.
Ace was ready to spar with Nine. It would be better to practice on live targets, after all. However, what Nine said was true. He might be (regrettably) smaller than Nine, but he could teleport. But, really? Must everybody bring up his height? ”I wouldn’t expect you to.” Ace said, smirking slightly. He had a little…strategy up his sleeve. It would be a rather interesting spar, though. Magic against strength. It would be amusing, to say the least. He was looking forward to it. Ace kept his smirk on his face. He was feeling rather confident about this fight. He looked at Nine, and within moments he was holding his cards. He was definitely going to get a little bit of revenge for all of those shortie comments. However, he wasn’t going to be too hard. ”Don’t worry, Nine. I won’t go easy on you either.”
Ace still didn’t understand why Nine didn’t like being with Trey and Queen. He never had any problems with them. If anything, they got along quite well. He always thought that Nine, Trey and Queen would at least be able to work on a project together, at the very least. ”I don’t understand.” He said plainly. He didn’t understand how working with them was so bad. Surely it would be, in some people’s words, an easy A. And to see Nine give Kurasame an earful? That would be a sight to see completely. However, Ace doubted their teacher would take that without some form of retaliation. He could clearly remember what happened last time Nine gave Kurasame an earful. All in all, it didn’t really end well. At least, if his memory served correctly.
Ace cocked his head to the side in confusion. What was so funny? Still, he wouldn’t put it past Kurasame to slap Nine again. ”What? You really think he would again?” He said, rather seriously. ”But Nine, you know that Cater and I would interfere like last time.” He said. Ace meant that. He didn’t want Kurasame to hit any of his family. At least, he counted his classmates as his family. Ace held his cards in his hand, studying them for a moment. He, then, looked at Nine and smirked. ”Bring it, ‘big brother’.” He knew this spar would be interesting, just by the way they both acted before. However, he wasn’t going to wait for Nine to make the vital first move. That wouldn’t be wise to let the dragoon have a first advantage. Within a blink, Ace teleported behind him and cast a quick Card. That was a rather sneaky attack, but it was one of the moves Ace had been trying to perfect for battle.

This was going to be interesting. Nine wasn’t exactly great at fighting against magic, he was more of a brawn fighter. Physical, basically strength versus strength, that’s what he relied on the most. This was good though, he’d have to progress at some time against his magical foes, even Ace. Not that he ever thought as the shorter blonde to be a foe of sorts, but still, this would be a nice learning experience, better learning than someone like Kurasame could ever teach. Smirking slightly, he had to give Ace a lot of credit and praise, he was one tough kid and had a heart of gold. “Alright Ace! Give it all you’ve got, mmk? I don’t want this to be an easy session for the both o’ us.” He said with a smirky grin on his face. His lance in hand as he rested it against his shoulder, a bit more talk before the spar itself. Oh well, might as well get it out of the way now, right?
Sighing quietly, Nine felt his shoulders droop some, thinking back about that damn project. “I can handle bein’ in a group with Trey, but…have you ever heard Queen aroun’ me? Ain’t exactly the friendly type.” He groaned slightly within his complaints before straightening up and rolling his shoulders back, standing tall and proud, like a dragoon of his rank should. He was ready for battle, only a few complaints he could make more about Queen…or a billion of them…he’d keep them hushed for now, he could complain later, so long as it wasn’t around King, unless he wanted to get shot. “Whatever, it doesn’t matter, I expect a good grade on that project.” He said seriously as he looked at Ace, seeing he was ready to get to battle as well. Might as well cut the chit chat and get down to business, after all, they both had skills that needed to be worked on here!
“Kurasame can just kiss my ass for all I care. Now let’s go!” He said confidently, shifting his weight back, bending his knees and moving his lance around to where it was comfortable for him to hold as he got in an aggressive, almost offensive stance. He was ready to leap, to jump high into the air just to show how much of a dragoon he really was. But before he got the chance to even step forward, Ace disappeared. Damn that teleportation skill he had! Nine knew he had to move, something would be coming, so just upon first instinct, he leaped forward and low, rolling but still holding onto his lance carefully. As he moved to one knee and one foot, he looked back towards Ace and flung his lance towards the card caster, knowing well that he could teleport within the blink of an eye, but he didn’t want his friend to get hurt, he knew Ace was smart enough to teleport, it was all timing, and Nine was sure this ‘small fry’ was going to give him a run for his gil. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 617 Muse: Great! Ace knew that this spar would be unpredictable. He hadn’t really sparred with Nine before, or any of the others, to be honest. He was more theory. And when he did go train, he was usually by himself. This would be a good experience for him, which was a definite. Ace needed to learn the tactics of a dragoon, anyway. It was a learning curve. Always a good thing. Besides, it would probably be a bit of fun, also. It would be interesting to spar with his ‘big brother’, in Nine’s words. ”I’ll keep my word.” Ace smirked, and held a card between his index and middle finger. He wanted to try and confuse Nine with his teleportation. He had a strategy he had wanted to try out, and this was the perfect opportunity. He would keep to his word, and give Nine a very active battle. Ace didn’t want to disappoint. If Nine wanted a difficult spar, that was what he would get.
Ace cocked his head. It was true. Queen had been rather harsh towards Nine at times. He couldn’t deny that. ”Oh…” He said, in an understanding tone. He didn’t really know what to say in return. He had noticed, but hadn’t really thought much of it. Maybe that was the wrong thing to do. Maybe he should have spoken up. Ace felt a little bit guilty now. Was it wrong to feel guilty? Maybe, but that didn’t matter. He slumped slightly. Ace nodded. ”Probably.” He looked Nine dead in the eye. They were about to spar, that was obvious. He gave Nine a look saying ’You ready to fight? Ace could feel the adrenaline pumping before they had barely even begun. Every move had to be strategically executed, and it was like a game. Rather exciting. Ace smirked.
He snorted a little at Nine’s comment about Kurasame. If their teacher knew, Nine would probably get a lot more than a few slaps. However, now wasn’t really the time to be joking around. Ace quickly teleported out of way of Nine’s lance, and appeared a few feet in front of it. He quickly cast three Card before teleporting over and over in different places, trying to confuse him. Ace quickly stopped teleporting behind Nine, and cast another Card. He was right, this was the perfect opportunity to practice this technique. He, then, repeated his previous action of teleporting everywhere. Only this time, every time he stopped for at least a second, he would attack. Ace always kept his word, and he wanted to make Nine work. Just like he said he would. However, teleporting did take a lot of work to do, and it really wiped him out if he did it too much. Ace stopped for a second, looking the tiniest bit tired. But he was still going to fight with some bite, that was for sure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 638 Muse:; Grrrrrrreat! Nine was ready to get down to business, he always seemed to be itching for a fight to help him better himself, and even taking on Ace would help him out. He wasn’t used to dealing with that much magic and teleportation to save his life, but hey…practice makes perfect right? He was going to have to put a little pressure on his younger companion as well, because Ace probably needed just as much practice as he did, they all could do with a bit of sparring every once in awhile, and today was just a perfect opportunity to do so. With Ace having disappeared, Nine moved forward and turned to see his friend already where Nine once was, having his attack been avoided by the leaping dragoon. Nine had just gotten done throwing his javelins, so what better thing to do during a spar than throw his spear like javelin as well? Not that he was aiming to actually hit Ace, it was all about timing.
Call Nine stupid when it came to the real life academics and being a social person, but when it came to the battle field, he was quite intelligent, able to give advice and figure out what it was he himself even needed to work on. He worked hard every time he came out here so he could become better, if not for just to boost his strength and stamina, but to be able to protect his family and friends that he really did care deeply for. He was after all, the tank of the class. Watching Ace teleport away from his lance where it struck into the ground – right were Ace was merely seconds ago – Nine grinned and rose up to his feet, running fast and taking a tumble-dive on the ground to retrieve his weapon as he turned around swiftly, looking at Ace, but then he disappeared, and reappeared multiple times, causing the hot headed dragoon to become dazed and confused for a few moments, looking in every direction trying to spot he card dealer. Okay, if he was just trying to make Nine dizzy then he sure was doing a hell of a good job! Nine couldn’t help but scowl a bit and grit his teeth as he rose to his full height, gripping his lance tightly as he continued to look around him and over his shoulder,
Nine had to keep moving though, he saw a few of the oncoming card attacks, but it wasn’t like he could teleport around and avoid everything like some people could. Moving this way and that, tumbling and rolling out of the way, Nine did get hit a bit, tripping himself up and hitting the ground, but sticking his lance into the ground to avoid face planting into the ground. Looking up he saw Ace stop from his little teleporting parade, seeing the look of tiredness on his face, he leaped up to his face and charged towards Ace. Nine wasn’t going to stab him with the lance, or dropkick him into the neighboring country, but he sure as hell was going to get Ace off his feet, payback time! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 614 Muse: Good Tagged: Ace! This was definitely an interesting spar. Ace had to been quick to avoid attacks from his scarred friend. It would help him when they came to fight a proper enemy, and not each other. Most enemies relied on strength, didn’t they? So, taking on Nine would be good practice for him. He needed to be stronger anyway. In both magic and physically. Maybe he should try dodging a different way? All the teleporting was tiring him out a bit. It took a lot of work to teleport everywhere, and he usually didn’t teleport that much. Not compared to now, anyway. It was a big difference to what Ace was used to, that was for sure. But, that was why he was practicing on Nine, and not using his strongest attacks. He didn’t want to hurt his classmate. He needed to time everything well, anyway. Everything would count in a proper battle, and so, he would need to make every move count also.
Ace straightened his posture, tiredness evident on his features. He had worked hard when training before, and now he needed to work harder. He only regretted not doing any strength training. He savored his energy for a moment, and then teleported a few feet back. Damn. Ace was too tired to move more than just a couple of feet. That wasn’t good. That wasn’t good one bit. He released a coupe of breaths, before shooting an attack, a little more powerful than the usual Card. He needed to make his moves unpredictable as possible. But that meant they would also have to be unpredictable to him, also. He needed to not only surprise Nine, but surprise himself. That would be the tiniest bit hard. Ace was used to thinking ahead, trying to think of flawless plans. Right now, it seemed he would have to rely on dodging normally while he recharged for a moment for two. That would be best, right? Ace already knew that this spar would be difficult, but that was what made it the more fun, didn’t it? Inside, Ace was enjoying it. It was interesting, unpredictable, and amusing. He was glad they had both decided to do this. He smiled when he realized Nine had been confused. All the better for him.
Ace saw Nine’s oncoming attack, but he was far too tired to teleport away. He jumped out the way, narrowly trying to miss the attack. He could tell straight away he hadn’t missed it entirely. He felt a small and sharp pain in his arm, and saw a small cut. Well, that wasn’t that bad. They weren’t trying to seriously injure each other. Ace held his hand against the cut experimentally, wincing slightly. It wasn’t that bad, but a cut was a cut. He shot a quick Dragon Card. ”Hn. You giving up yet?” He teased playfully, grinning. Maybe Ace shouldn’t have been so cocky. After all, his main way of escape was striked out. Still, it was all good fun. Besides, he was going to ask Nine something once they were done, if he passed a little test Ace had. Nine wasn’t going to make it easy on Ace, but he didn’t want to get the poor guy with his lance. How would he explain that one to mother? Oh…Ace got impaled by my lance because I threw it at him. Yeah, that’d settle well. With a smirk on his lips, he’d launched his lance towards Ace, knowing the youthful blonde would move somehow away from the attack, it was all about speed and strategy, wasn’t it? Watching Ace move out of the way with little difficultly, Nine was immediately on his feet, retrieving his lance and taking another crack at his friend, giving him no room to breathe, and ultimately leaving the tiniest of cuts. Well, that was a start wasn’t it? It just went to show that Ace needed to move a bit faster.
Seeing another attack coming his way, Nine stood his ground, putting his lance out in front of him as a transparent force field of sorts surrounded him, making him definitely more of a tank than he really was. A wide cocky smile crossed his face as the next attack had been done with, not effecting the dragoon much as he lowered his lance to his side, still in an aggressive stance as he hand his knees bent, ready to leap. “Me? Not a chance.” He said shaking his head briefly, keeping his bright blue eyes on his opponent, rather than considering him a brother right now, this was a fight after all, you didn’t show mercy on the battle field – even though this was very different. Quirking an eyebrow at Ace, Nine tilted his head slightly. “And you? Kid? How are you not tired yet? I mean…you probably didn’t even take your nap today, you youngin’.” Trying to get a rise out of his younger sibling…how nice. It was all in good fun, sort of….well at least Nine thought so, but this is also the same guy who doesn’t think before he speaks or acts…he simply went on a whim and just…let things fly it seemed.
Shifting back a bit, Nine then took a few charging steps, bending his knees and making a small leap before propelling himself into the air, high and getting his lance into position right against him, aiming downwards towards the ground as he then used all the force he had to slam his lance into the ground, but he’d purposely been a few feet away from Ace, that way he’d only get the impact of the attack and not the pain that really came with it, he’d already given the kid a small cut, no need to smash his skull in during the process. After hitting the ground, Nine realized his lance had been wedged into the ground pretty tightly. A frustrated look came on his face as he began to tug on his weapon, feeling it slowly loosen itself, but it wasn’t doing much for him, he was stuck…unless Ace had taken a fall from the impact of his hit to the ground…otherwise he was going to have to free hand it until they were done. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 612 Muse: Good! Everything was starting a little more serious by the second. Ace could tell that Nine was slightly holding back, as was he. However, he didn't want to lose this. He needed to get stronger. In a psychical fight, he wouldn't do very well. So, that's why he needed to stop relying on magic so much. However, it was a difficult conversion. He couldn't just swap mid-fight. He needed to practice. Maybe asking Nine or one of the other Dragoons would be good. Ace stepped back from Nine. A perk of being a magic-user, you could attack from distances. He clicked his tongue, before shooting Dragon Card again. Bigger attacks took a little bit more energy, so he usually stuck with Card. He thought for a moment, before jumping back a little more. The further he stayed away from Nine, the less likely he would be able to get attacked, right? It was just a thought...
Ace rolled his eyes at Nine's comment. Did he not remember that he was only a year younger? Sure, he was a little smaller, but he wasn't a child. He shot a Card at his 'brother'. "I'm not that younger than you. Besides, don't 'old people' have to sleep as well as 'kids'?" He said, gesturing to Nine, then himself at the appropriate titles. Two could play at that game. Ace smiled a little too innocently, before teleporting behind Nine and shooting three Cards at his back. His teleporting energy still wasn't completely back, but what did it matter? They wouldn't seriously hurt each other, would they? But, it didn't mean they couldn't fight rough. They both could take it, right? "You all bark and no bite, Nine?" He teased, grinning. He knew Nine could probably beat him black and green if he tried hard enough. Still, he didn't think that he would.
Ace scowled a little when Nine started to attack. There wasn't much time to act, as the next minute he found himself on the ground. Damn it! He opened his eyes (which had closed from the impact) and smirked when he saw Nine's weapon lodged in the ground. Sitting up, he fired two Cards, one at each leg to try and knock the dragoon down. Ace stood up, and his smirk widened. "Stuck?" He put his hands on his hips, taking a few deep breaths. It would be best to try and catch his breath while this happened. Still, Ace was always ready to cast another attack. That, and he knew Nine could always use his hands as a weapon. He certainly had the strength for it, after all. He caught his breath slowly, hoping the lance wouldn't suddenly come free. His only option out of that would be to teleport, and he didn't feel up to it. He needed to build his stamina for that. Ace released a deep breath, and braced himself to fight again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 650 Muse:; Great! This was getting mildly interesting. Nine had never sparred with someone like Ace before, usually it was just him out here throwing javelins and testing his strength, or even battling against real soldiers that made for excellent targets that didn’t need to be shown any mercy. With a smirk towards his younger friend, Nine had never been one to think of good comments to make, so when Ace fired something back about being old, Nine felt the smirk wipe away from his face. Damn, he really needed to work on his comebacks and what not. Usually he let his actions do the talking for him in situations like this, but…it was just funny in a way. It was so odd to see BIG TALL SPEAR WIELDING NINE battling smart logical magic using and card dealing Ace, but hey, you needed to be prepared for everything, didn’t you?
“I’m all bark AND all bite.” Nine informed his friend with a bit of a defensive tone before moving to his next attack. A traditional jump attack performed by most dragoons, though he wasn’t directing his attack to land ON TOP of Ace, he’d successfully knocked the card wielder off his feet, but in the process, Nine had struck his lance into the ground and gotten it stuck there. Tugging at it quickly, his eyes remained on Ace, feeling as if his friend was going to laugh or something, but hey, when you were strong and performing jump attacks like he had just tried, it was pretty understandable as to how he got his lance stuck into the ground. The tricky part would be getting it out before Ace decided to attack Nine again. Tugging at his lance, Nine just gave up, especially when he saw the new attack coming. Unfortunately he hadn’t moved out of the way in time and with two attacks going to his feet, he’d easily been knocked off his feet and onto his back.
Laying on the ground his limbs sprawled out, Nine just looked up at the sky, his lance sticking out of the ground still in his peripheral vision as his face was rather unamused. He was going to give Ace this one, he was proving to be a more difficult target than Nine had assumed. Nine had thought this would’ve been a piece of cake, but obviously there was more to magic users than what his simple little mind would allow. Shaking his head some as he sat up slowly, crossing his legs to sit crisscross, he looked over to Ace, running a hand through his hair to get some of the dirt and anything else out of his spiky do. “I gotta give ya this one, ya proved to be a bigger pain in the ass than I expected.” His words were cheery, all said with a grin. It was supposed to be a compliment coming from Nine, which wasn’t exactly rare, but it sure as hell wasn’t an everyday thing. “Yer a good fighter, if I had any advice t’ give ya, it’s just workin’ on yer magic endurance, as well as physical combat but hey…you’ve won this round, kiddo.” He said getting to his feet, dusting off his pants and still keeping a grin on his face. Ace let out a deep breath. This spar was tiring, that was for sure. Usually the Class Zero team divided up to fight whatever monsters best suited them. He wasn’t used to fighting physically. It was all strategic and theory, magic. That was his forte. But, he still needed to work on the other things. Compared to his high level on magic, he couldn’t exactly fight physically… at all, for that matter. However, it wasn’t that simple to just fix up that kind of problem. It took time. Time Ace didn’t have. He was rather busy as it was. But it would be a useful skill. Maybe he could ask somebody who was good in that subject… like Jack… or perhaps Nine himself? But people had their own things to sort out. Still… it wouldn’t hurt to try, right? Maybe he could mention it later on, when they weren’t so busy or out of breath.
Ace rolled his eyes at Nine’s comment, a playful smirk evident of his lips. Bark and bite, eh? Still, getting knocked off his feet instead of seriously hurt seemed something Nine would do. Having both of them on the ground must have equaled to a draw? Ace didn’t have the physical stamina like some people, but he liked the feeling. The feeling of adrenaline had always made him excited… for something… He wasn’t really sure why though. It was just something normal for him to feel in the rush of a battle. ”Jeez…” He muttered, rubbing his shoulder firmly. Landing on that hadn’t been a breeze that was for sure. It was sore now. He rolled his shoulders back and forth slightly, before rubbing his neck, catching his breath. It had been fun, and he decided he would keep this moment of catch-up as long as he could, before they would get back into the spar. If they decided to carry on. That was the big question, wasn’t it? They both seemed a bit whipped. Maybe they could just leave it for the day, eh?
Ace raised his eyebrows at a defeated Nine. He leant over the Dragoon, just to make sure he was ok. He then leant back, and crossed his legs too. It had definitely been worth while. He had a better idea of which techniques to use in which situations, which was always a good thing when necessary. ”Hey, it was a good fight.” He shrugged, before looking at the scratches on his arms. Yeah, they would be fine. And he definitely had a few bruises, especially one on his shoulder. Ace didn’t want Nine to feel down just because of one loss. He had lost his own share of fights, and he knew Nine could beat him if he tried hard enough. If they both went all out on each other, he was sure they would be beaten up badly by the other. Ace rolled his eyes at Nine. ”I’m not sure whether that was a compliment or an insult…” He grinned, before putting his hands behind his back and leaning on his palms. He shrugged. ”Yeah, I need to work on a lot of things. But hey, I’m sure you’ll get me next time, right?” He lightly shoved him, before shaking his head, trying to wake himself up a bit. A small knock to the head made him slightly disorientated, but he was fine now. Just needed to wake him up a little. Ace hadn’t exactly had the best night’s sleep before. He quickly looked up at Nine, and rolled his eyes again. ”Honestly, Nine? I’m not much younger than you, you know.” He looked up at the clouds. Ace felt a little too content to move at the moment. He would soon, just once he wanted to, of course. ”Still… I guess since you are very wise Sensei, due to your age… I guess you know best.” He stuck his tongue out, laughing inside at the name he called Nine. ”Eh, maybe I should take notes from you fighting skills.” He joked.
