Oh confound it all.
That hadn’t gone well…it really hadn’t gone well.
Chelsea was really sick of this happening to her. This time it hadn’t been her fault though. Once she had gotten too involved, there had been no way to get back out successfully. That, unfortunately, was the danger when it came to the field she was involved it. Being an intelligence agent, fooling people and going undercover was all great, fine, and dandy-…until you got caught. Before Rude, Chelsea had never been found out. Now though-…well it was almost as if that one time period had soured her to the entire business. No use thinking about it, but Chelsea was now in another situation at the moment.
Wiggling her wrists, Chelsea huffed angrily, grunting slightly while trying to get her hands free from the ropes that bound them, before giving up again. Her arms were sore from the constant flexing and moving as she strained and tried to get loose from the bondage. This was…a terrible situation to be in. Resting her head against the wall behind her, Chelsea closed her eyes for a moment, wishing to rub them with the fingers that were connected to the hands that were currently tied behind her back. How had she gotten into this situation again? The WRO had sent her to get in with these men, cause them to trust her, and then give the WRO the information they needed to be able to move in on the small time group that had stolen something from them. They had taken something from ShinRa too, from what she heard. Great…the last thing she wanted to do was to get caught up with ShinRa again.
Though she probably wouldn’t mind the company of one ma-…well, this was definitely not the time to start thinking about that. Really, really not the time. Right now, she should be thinking of some way to escape these bounds, this little place, and then get back to the WRO headquarters with the information that she had found. The planned attack on the headquarters was clever, that she had to give to them, but if she could get out in time, then she could warn them and they would have nothing to fear. Despite the clever idea, this organization lacked the fire power that it needed to be able to take on such a well established organization. If…that was, she could get out on time to warn them about it. ShinRa would need to know as well, because they would be next.
Before that, though, she was going to just have to get out of this one. Struggling against her bonds, Chelsea glanced around her, blue eyes trying to find some object that would be sharp enough to cut through the bonds. That...was the first step to this dilemma. After that, she could continue on and try to get away from this place. It’d be nice to have a little bit of help!...
Not likely.

Because Reno was the brightest crayon in the crayon box – yes, a pun regarding his hair color – he decided it would be wise to take on this dusty mission alone. He’d found it deep in a file cabinet, aka, right at the front that was probably going to be next assigned, and because he was going to be having a family to take care of soon, the gil this mission would give him was quite a hefty amount, thus he was willing to take the risks, besides, he was a smart guy really, a sharp witted Turk and very dedicated to his job, like the rest of the Turks for the most part. So, to start this mission off right, he’d trailed from the chopper he’d parked in a brush filled area just outside of the Wutai area, out of sight and out of mind for anyone who’d seen it. He did his best to remain stealth, keeping low to the ground and avoiding any contact with people, not that he saw any, but he was sure to see someone here soon. All he knew was that there was a small village that he needed to explore.
And explore that village he did.
Lurking around the outside of the village, Reno watched a few armored men move their way around the outskirts, looking for anyone and anything that could be a potential threat, but Reno did well to keep himself covered even with being the bright red beacon that he was. With a small smirk forming on his lips, he quickly scampered across the ground and into the nearest building, a dusty looking building that hadn’t been lived in or even occupied in a few years, how different things were these days. Moving through this small little building – most likely a storage area – he trailed forward still, catching sight of another larger building that looked to hold a bit more in store for him. ShinRa was far from stupid, they were well aware of the confrontations this organization could bring with not only ShinRa, but the WRO as well, it seemed that the big names were getting big pests on their backs these days, and Reno was one of the few who was able to take care of things like this, he wondered if the WRO even had a clue as to what the hell was going on.
WRO…
That simply reminded him of one girl whom he hated with every fiber of his being. “Chelsea.” He mumbled out very quietly with a roll of his eyes, thinking back on the woman who had taken the heart of his best friend and nearly shattered it into a thousand pieces. Man, women could be so cruel, and Reno considered himself lucky to have a woman like Cissnei on his arm. She was sweet, kind and caring…pretty much anything a man should ask for…but to go and break someone’s heart like that, to lie to them and only get close to them for information, for the sake of AVALANCHE…that was low, and Reno wasn’t buying any apology she wanted to give, and he hoped Rude wouldn’t either, but hey, love made a man do crazy things didn’t it? Whatever, he’d give Rude a stern talking to should he ever associate himself with Chelsea again. Ha, a stern talking to…he was really picking things up from Cissnei these days, wasn’t he? How silly, but anyways! Back to the task at hand.
Moving quickly across the small parting from building to building, Reno opened the door and slid himself in, closing it quietly behind him without so much as a creak of the hinges. Moving into the room, he heard nothing, it was darkish in color, and it didn’t look like much of anything particular, but he did see a few things, he saw a wad of rope on a table and some identification cards. Moving over towards the table he picked up a few cards, some pictures that looked to be taken without the targets’ knowledge were shown, giving information about them and where their loyalties lied. He recognized one as…himself, Tseng, Rude and Elena…the four main Turks that lasted just before the Geostigma occurred. A mental sigh of relief escaped Reno as he didn’t see Cissnei’s name anywhere, but he did recognize a few more faces. Reeve, Vincent Valentine, Yuffie Kisaragi…and…he heard a noise.
Dropping the cards, he ducked down at the table and started moving, easing himself around a few barrels and boxes that were stacked up alongside a wall, and that’s when he saw the first face he recognized around here and almost wanted to give a groan. His aquamarine eyes moved around, not seeing anyone else in the building or hearing them, so he stood straight up and started over towards the brunette whom he held no kindness for. Still…she seemed to be in quite a bind. The puns, they continue I swear. “Looks like you’re a little tied up right now…what’s…landed you ‘ere, Chelsea?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 939 Muse: Great! She needed to find a new profession.
It was really true. As Chelsea sat there, she couldn’t get that thought out of her head. Normal people didn’t get stuck in some weird room with their hands tied behind their back while some terrorist military group was planning to take down two huge important organizations in this part of the world and awaiting execution or something. Chelsea sighed. Oh yes, this was just the best day ever. Finally getting tired, she stopped struggling and sat with her head back against the wall. Her wrists were killing her, rubbed raw from her struggles to escape. But that was what happened when you were faced with death, you wanted to get away. She knew she sure did. These men were ruthless, all of them. She had quickly figured that out for herself, but as soon as she had started her mission, there had been no backing out. They had taken her out to the middle of Wutai. Chelsea could just be thankful that her mission hadn’t involved anything like toying with their emotions. When they had come to her and asked for her to complete this, she had only asked one question. 'Do I have to have them fall in love with me?'
Nothing more had been asked, and she had only accepted because they had said no. Chelsea might make her living off lying to people and going behind their backs, but she did have morals. Ever since that last mission before she had escaped AVALANCHE , she refused to do anything like that. Toying with emotions had been just a job to her before that, but not after. No, after she had fallen for the man she was supposed to be screwing over, she refused to do anything like that. She still wished things had gone differently. Either that her and Rude could have met under different circumstances or that she had never fallen in love with him. Either one of those options would have been fine, but it had happened. Even years later she had regrets about that mission. Still, she didn’t regret having gotten to know him. Besides, the last time she had met him at that gym, after the initial panic on her part, Chelsea had just realized all over again why it was that she had fallen in love with him. Perhaps that was the part that hurt the most.
Groaning at her thoughts, Chelsea once again turned back to trying to get out of her bonds. “Great!”, she muttered out in anger, kicking her legs a bit, as she was tied by her ankles as well, hands not only tied together but also to a bar on the wall. These men really didn’t mess around. One kick accidentally hit a chair that was sitting there, making it skitter away a bit, and causing her to freeze, wondering if the men had heard that, and hoping that they hadn’t. After a few moments of them not coming to find her though, Chelsea simply returned to her struggling, concentrating on getting free, biting her lip as she struggled. She would get out of these bonds and get back to Edge in time to warn the WRO abou-
Had she heard a sound? Freezing again, Chelsea put as serene of an expression as she possibly could muster, waiting for the strange men to come storming in and drag her away. She wouldn’t doubt that they would kill her, but she had no guarantees that they wouldn’t do more before they finally did. Chelsea was ready to deal with that. ‘Deal’, as in use any means she could to escape. Thankfully she was resourceful, so it shouldn’t be that big of a challenge. But she couldn’t let them see that she was intimidated in the slightest. When she saw who it was that walked in she almost wished it was the men that were there to kill her. The serene look dropped in favor for an extremely annoyed look. “What brings your wonderful self here Reno?” Chelsea at the same time was looking behind him, wondering if his long-time partner was there as well. That she wouldn’t have minded quite so much…

Sneaking around by yourself was never a good idea, Reno knew that as well as anyone within the Turks, or as well as anyone with common sense, but you know what…he figured he’d be fine. He was a fantastic Turk no matter what anyone said about his attitude, he hadn’t gotten to being Second in Command due to his perfect and polite attitude. He had skills, and that was enough to make him cocky enough to think that he’d be okay out here by himself. Hearing the first noise though while snooping through a few pictures and informational papers, he’d ducked down and gotten out of view quickly, moving and not seeing anyone…until he rounded a few crates and barrels, seeing a face he knew. He didn’t like this face, but she didn’t look to be in the best of shape right now. What should he do? Keep going? Make himself known just to annoy her? The latter seemed like the most amusing, so for now, he’d go with that idea.
Reno, first class genius I swear.
Smirking at Chelsea’s oh so friendly greeting to him, Reno shrugged his shoulders and folded his arms across his chest, feeling a bit too amused here as he looked down at her. “Oh you know, just hangin’ out.” He said with a small roll of his eyes, looking to see that her hands were bound and that she wasn’t really going to be going anywhere like that. “And you? It looks as if you’ve gotten yourself in a wee bit of trouble, Chelsea.” Very observant he was, but most of his tone was just being sarcastic and not very friendly. After what this woman did to his best friend, it was just a grudge he continued to hold instead of growing up and being able to let it go. Had Rude been here with him, they probably would’ve set her free and helped her out of here, but Reno wasn’t that nice, he wasn’t going for that just yet. In the end though, he’d probably think about helping her at least out of the binds that her limbs were in, that could be his good deed for the day, could it not?
Hearing the sound of a door creaking open, Reno looked like a deer in headlights for a moment, his eyes going wide as he ducked down to the floor next to Chelsea. He shot her a glance with a small almost irritated frown before speaking quietly. “I don’t want to help you, but you leave me no choice.” He said before pulling a simple pocket knife from his pocket, flicking it open and cutting the rope bonds that had her wrists together before flipping it shut and pocketing it again, instantly going for his EMR and standing up as he did so. Hearing footsteps approach this way, he stood still, not making a sound as he hoped that the men would head in a different direction, but seeing as they had a prisoner here, they’d probably come to check on her, or worse. Taking a few silent steps back and behind a stack of crates, Reno ducked himself close to the ground again, remaining silent, but able to see Chelsea from where he was. If she was smart, she’d remain where she was and wait for the element of surprise to be a good idea.
As he waited, he could hear a few mumbled voice. Some of them speaking of the girl they’d captured, some speaking of ShinRa and the WRO. Two companies that this organization seemed to hate, they were simply becoming a thorn in Reno’s side, but whatever, he was going to make sure they knew that ShinRa AND the WRO were onto their cases. If that meant helping Chelsea and working with her until they were out of this place with enough information for both of them, then so be it. He wasn’t going to like it, but sometimes you had to do things you didn’t like…for the sake of the company who he’d remained loyal to after all this time and all the crap they’d been through. This would earn him a bonus, it had to. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 804 Muse: Great! Chelsea couldn't imagine a worse situation.
Blowing out her breath in frustration, Chelsea eyed at the red haired man that stood there sneering at her. She would love to just slap the smug look right off him. If she could get out of this mess, then she might just do it too! Honestly, he needed to be taken down a few notches. If it was left up to her to do so, then she would. She couldn't think of anything that she would rather do-...okay, that wasn't true, there were plenty that she would rather be doing. Being around Reno was just about the last thing she wanted to do with her life. Normally a master at keeping her emotions in check, Chelsea didn't even attempt to do so right now. Instead, she scowled openly at him, eyes shooting daggers. Oh if only her hands weren't tied...
And then he added insult to injury with his stupid comments. Looking at him stiffly, Chelsea could imagine her hands around his arms, throttling him. Oddly, the mental image made her smile, which ended when she heard Reno's annoying voice again. With a disgruntled little sigh, she turned her vision back to him. "Of course I'm not in any sort of trouble. WRO agents don't get in trouble, we just have detours. It's cocky Turks that get into trouble, usually when they're just 'hanging out' somewhere." Chelsea had attempted a smile, but that honestly wasn't working so well, as it had fallen quite flat on her lips. She couldn't help that he was an annoying prick. Hadn't he picked anything up from his years of having Rude as a partner? Promptly she pointed that out. “With all those years of having Rude as your partner, it’s really surprising to me that you picked up absolutely none of his good qualities.” It really was true. As calm, easy going, kind, and relaxed as Rude was, Reno was equally temperamental, problematic, unkind, and pig headed as he possibly could be. How anyone saw anything in him was beyond her.
The next second, with the door creaking, Reno was beside her. Much too close for comfort in her mind. Honestly, she didn’t want to have him anywhere near her, let alone actually touch her, so when he mentioned that as much as he didn’t want to, he would have to help her, Chelsea instantly bristled. “Well I don’t want your help either, you ignorant brat.”, she snapped out in a soft hiss. When she felt her bonds loosen though, she instantly raised her hands in front of her to rub the circulation back into them. She even begrudged him a "Thank you.”, as well. Gosh was she proud of herself, even giving him a thanks. Prick. Still, she knew how it went, and so she continued to sit where she was, shooting her eyes over toward the red head, who had flattened himself down to the floor. Before she placed her hands back behind her, Chelsea threw her rope at Reno, hoping it would at least cause some annoyance. She knew he brought out the worst in her, but honestly, she couldn’t bring herself to care all that much. He was just a five year old in an adult body anyway. “I think you should be the bait,” she whispered. “You make a much prettier girl anyway.”
It seemed to be her destiny in life to be some sort of bait.
She resigned herself to that with a sigh. Scooting back slightly, she remained where she was, her serene expression once again back up on her face. An instant later the two men burst in the door. Eying them with the same serene expression on her face, Chelsea didn’t bother to look scared or terrified or anything like that. They weren’t worth the trouble anyway. “You ready to talk sweet cheeks?”, came the rough voice of the first man. Daintily lifting her shoulder in a shrug, Chelsea didn’t reply, which only made them angry. “Listen Honey, we’ve taken it easy on you. Hell, we might even let ya live after we’re done with you here…if you talk." Chelsea had no question in her mind what their intentions were, and it didn’t involve her walking out of here alive. Still, she remained silent until he had grabbed her by the waist and started to haul her to her feet. Seizing the opportunity, Chelsea balanced herself on her feet, and clasped at his arms. While he registered in surprise why her hands were free, Chelsea slammed her knee into his groin, before turning and elbowing him as hard as she could in the face. His howl died in his throat when she kicked him hard in the stomach, his breath leaving him in a ‘whoosh’. She hoped Reno was being useful and actually doing something with the second man. That would be great.
Reno? Do something useful?

Reno was on the border with how he was feeling right now. He was slightly amused by this…yet also slightly irritated with simply seeing Chelsea. Seeing her reminded him of the wrong she’d done to his best friend, and even though Rude seemed to think that it was nothing, to Reno it was…just…friendly protection? He was trying to look out for his partner within the Turks, if Chelsea had been pretending before and turned heel and broke his heart, who was to say she wouldn’t do it again? One couldn’t be too sure, and even though the redhead should lead Rude to his own life, he really didn’t care what Rude chose to do. If it lead to his own sadness then so be it, but that didn’t mean Reno had to like Chelsea by any means, and any sort of friendship wasn’t going to blossom between the two, not in this lifetime and certainly not in the next.
Looking towards Chelsea with a seemingly thoughtful look on his face, he tilted his head slightly and gave her a small frown. “I’m not the one tied up and helpless. Wanna rethink that statement?” he said as he raised an eyebrow at Chelsea, moving his arms to fold across his chest as he looked at her, shaking his head and wondering where to go from here. It really was a good reason he’d come alone, good for him, yet somewhat stupid. Should something happen…who was going to know? Putting a bittersweet smirk on his face as Chelsea continued to run her mouth, Reno shrugged his shoulders. “And after all of these years, I can’t believe he’d even give you a passing glace for what you did to him.” he said in a darker tone, if they were going to battle ‘I can’t believe Rude hasn’t/didn’t’ against one another, there would be no kidding around coming from this redhead.
This wasn’t about winning arguments though, Reno knew when it was time to bicker and when it was time to be serious, no matter what people within the office or even outside the office had to say. He was second in command, he wasn’t stupid most of the time…and even when he was being risky or completely idiotic, he could see the big picture and where these crazy ideas would lead in the long run. He knew people would be heading this way, and upon hearing footsteps in the vicinity, Reno went into action. As much as he hated helping someone like Chelsea, it would be in both of their best interests if he helped her. With an unamused look, followed by a very sarcastic chuckle at her, her stupid comments about him being a prettier girl…well at least she knew he was a better looker than she was…even though it was an insult, it was simply better for Reno to brush it off and not want to choke her. Instead, he helped her, untying those bonds around her wrists and making himself scarce, putting himself off to the side out of sight, waiting…and relying on Chelsea to play her part in all of this.
Watching…eyes steady as he eyed the men coming to Chelsea to converse with her, Reno remained low to the ground, reaching into his jacket, patting his EMR where it was strapped securely at his waist, but his hand didn’t go for that weapon. Shifting for the other side of his jacket, he pulled out a handgun that all Turks seemed to be issued with, at least for basic protection and enough to work as a plan B if all else failed with their uniquely established weapons. With one eye closed, he was aiming, watching as Chelsea was hauled to her feet, but instantly she went into motion, taking care of the first man, and Reno, felt a smirk of amusement form on his lips as he watched the second of the two men go to try and help his buddy, but Reno couldn’t let that happen. Momentarily he and Chelsea were working together, as scary as that sounded. Whatever, call it…being nice, or a truce...it didn’t matter. After all was said and done here, they’d be back to whining and bickering about one another…just like normal!
Pressing his finger against the trigger, Reno watched the second man jerk around a bit in pain as the bullet had hit him in the shoulder, but to ensure that he wouldn’t still try going for his temporary ally, Reno stood up fully and shot another one to the man’s leg, watching him go down to the ground with a painful wail of a cry. Those two would be down for the count, not dead, but down enough to not even bother going after Chelsea or Reno. Waltzing over towards the WRO Agent, Reno twirled the gun in his hand and looked towards her. “This should buy…us some time before more goonies arrive. I HIGHLY suggest you and I get the hell out of here before that happens. I’ve gotten all the insight I needed.” He shrugged, taking a few steps past Chelsea and starting into a different direction. He was going to get out of here…no way in hell he was being held captive or killed here with Chelsea to witness a failure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 996 Muse: Great! Chelsea prided herself in being a patient woman.
Or so she thought. In her line of work, you had to have the patience to know when to act and when to wait for someone else to act. Yes, she was used to sitting back and waiting for others to act, even causing their reactions to people while she herself remained calm and collected. That was her entire life, from the time that she started in her business that was how it had been. And now here she was. What was it about Reno in particular that made her throw her patient attitude out the window and want to strangle him? He so easily made her put her feathers up and want to snap back to whatever he said. She hated that he could do that to her. Didn’t they say that there were people that just brought out the worst in others though? That must be Reno for her…must be. Well, she would just try to ignore him as much as humanly possible.
Or she could beat him once she got out of these bonds.
Yeah, that seemed like a great idea, especially with him taunting her about it. What kind of sick pig taunted a woman like he did? Ugh, and one of his fellow Turks had married him? How could she stand being around Reno so much? Every day, all day…what a miserable existence. Chelsea wanted to meet this woman to give her a hug and ask how she even managed. Was there any redeeming qualities that Reno actually possessed? Usually people, no matter how big of jerks they were, had something that redeemed them, but with him, she sure hadn’t found anything. Didn’t they say that love was blind though? It certainly was in this case anyway. Or at least she thought so.
And she couldn’t stand his self-righteous attitude right now. She had made awful decisions, sure, but didn’t everyone? Reno had been involved with killing thousands when they lowered the plate, and he was here preaching to her about everything she had done? Oh hell no, she was going to take him down a notch. When he mentioned about Rude, Chelsea shrugged and put as serene a face as she could muster. “You really don’t know your own partner do you. We’ve actually had several conversations lately,” she said calmly, looking him directly in the eye when she said it. Really, they had only had one deep conversation, but Chelsea had managed to apologize and even tell Rude that the mission had been more than just a mission. And Rude had seemed mildly surprised anyway.
But it was time to put that aside when he helped her begrudgingly. Like it or not, they were in this together for the moment. As much as she hated having to work with Reno, she could bite her own tongue and deal with it. …Maybe. He was an insolent prick, but whatever, sometimes in your life you were going to have to deal with people like him, she just hoped that she could survive the day without strangling herself. She probably should be grateful for his showing up, but she couldn’t make herself be such.
Attacking the man that had come for her, Chelsea kicked him back and instantly followed it up as he stumbled back with fist to his cheek and then her left fist caught him on the other side. The martial arts she had chosen to learn had come in handy right now, while she spun to kick him in the side of the head. He dropped to the floor, and-…oh look, Reno had actually made himself a little bit useful. Wasn’t that surprising. Checking the man she had taken down, Chelsea slipped her own gun from his waistband and expertly clipped him on the temple to lay him out cold, before checking the rounds in her own gun. As much as she hated to admit Reno was right, she had to. “Well then why are you standing here?”, she asked righteously, before walking past him, rubbing at her wrist still to get the circulation back fully.

This was so odd, Reno was doing his best at having somewhat of a mature attitude. You had to give him a little credit, at least he was trying, and so far it was going well, he had to commend Chelsea for her effort as well, this would never be an easy thing to deal with. They never saw eye to eye, and normally they would be at each other’s necks, but today…was just way too odd. Oh well, the more they…worked together without killing one another, the faster and easier it would be for them to get out of here unscathed. Having shot the girl a glance, Reno felt a bitter grin form on his lips. “Let’s just not talk about Rude. Though I worry about his…judgment, He’s a big boy and can handle himself, just…watch yourself.” He knew that at some point or another he needed to leave well enough alone. The sooner that day came…the sooner Reno wouldn’t have to worry as much.
Having assisted Chelsea, which went better than Reno had imagined, he was ready to get the hell out of here. Putting his gun back where it needed to be, he rolled his eyes at her comment and just continued to walk along, matching her pace as he kept his eyes open, he was ready for anything, able to grab at his gun or his EMR and fight in combat, and hopefully things would go smooth from here. So far it was going good, and Reno was proud of himself, but he wasn’t going to gloat or anything, it was time to be serious. With his blue-green eyes moving around he didn’t see much, moving out of this area and into the next. It wasn’t a glamorous walk either, this place was dark and gloomy, and it was perfect for this organization.
It was then, Reno spotted something out of the corners of his eyes. He looked towards Chelsea with a tiny smirk. “I think we’re being followed.” He said with a hushed tone, that way he didn’t alert the person who was practically stalking them. Whoever was wandering behind them was going to get a real treat. He kept his gaze flickering to Chelsea and then ahead of them. Stopping abruptly, he heard the footsteps stop just as he did. “Maybe we should head back the other way, I’m sure we can find some way out of here from a different direction.” He said in a slightly louder tone before turning around slightly and catching a glimpse of their stalker. A stark look came across his face as the goonie that had been followed them froze as he had, being shocked that he’d been discovered. A coward of a man as he fled, he shot another glance towards Chelsea, a shrug on his shoulders as he wasn’t expecting that one. “What exactly does the WRO know about these guys? Anything? Because…I sure as hell don’t understand their grudge against ShinRa or the WRO.”
Sighing, Reno looked around once more, not really having paid attention to where they were going, he was focusing more on who was following them and keeping an eye out for anyone follow them or attack them.
