Cecil was a calm and collected man, and he always had been as far as he could remember. He wasn’t one to fly off into a blind panic when things got bad, instead, he was usually a voice of reason for whatever group he happened to lead. A calm voice, a strong voice. That was Cecil for you. But not today. Most certainly not today. Today, the usually calm paladin paced back and forth with the mother of all serious expressions etched deep into his features. Word had just reached him that his wife, Rosa, had mysteriously disappeared. She hadn’t been kidnapped or anything, she’d just… vanished. How was it possible? And where was she now? Was she alright? So many questions, and nobody could provide him with any answers, no matter how many times he asked for them, they just didn’t know. He was still calm enough to understand that people couldn’t answer questions they genuinely didn’t know, and so rather than snapping at them, he’d simply dismissed them from his presence, but he could tell that his calm demeanor was waning. And fast. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Rose to take care of herself, because he did. She had more than proven herself in the past, and he couldn’t think of a finer companion to ride off into battle with when he could get over his protectiveness, but there was a big difference between being out by yourself dealing with enemies you were familiar with, and quite literally being warped away from everything you knew and dumped… wherever she was now. Another world? Another dimension? More answerless questions. Not that these last ones mattered. Wherever she was, Cecil would find her. No matter how long it took and no matter how many monsters he had to slay to get to her, he would find her and bring her home. Count on that. But at this point, words were meaningless. Words wouldn’t find out where she was, nor would they magically warp him to her side. He’d need help with this, help from those he knew to be wiser than himself. Cecil stopped pacing for a little while and looked out the window when he heard voices. It seemed his old companions had received his call for help, and they had decided to answer it by coming here. A faint smile broke through the worried expression as he pushed away from the window and hurried down towards the main hall. Even in dark times such as these, he still had friends he could count on, and no matter how grim the situation looked right now, Cecil couldn’t help but feel happy about that. With their help, he would definitely find Rosa again. He was sure of it.
“My friends,” he announced his presence with a saddened smile as he walked down the stairs towards them, “I am grateful you saw fit to assist me with this matter,” he didn’t dwell on his thanks and instead cut right to the chase. “As you all know, Rosa has disappeared about two days ago. Search parties have been sent out, but so far, there doesn’t seem to be any sign of her yet.” He looked away for a moment, ”Please gods, let her be safe,” he turned back towards his companions with a determined look once more, “Some of you may have heard, or even stumbled across them. Strange portals have started to appear throughout the world, seemingly at random locations, though we are still investigating that. I… believe they might have something to do with Rosa’s disappearance,” So far, he hadn’t been able to go through one of those portals himself. He was king now, after all, and he couldn’t carelessly run into the unknown without ensuring that his kingdom was well taken care of in his absence. And perhaps he’d held onto the faint hope that the reports might have been wrong, that Rosa had simply taken a wrong turn somewhere and had gotten lost somewhere in the area. But it had been two days now… she would’ve made it back by now if she had indeed gotten lost near the castle, and if not, the search parties would’ve certainly found her. No, Cecil really couldn’t think of any other explanation any more.
“I have decided to travel through these portals and search for her myself, but…” he turned to Edward for a moment, “I cannot leave this kingdom unattended. I know it is a lot to ask, Edward, but I can’t think of a finer man to replace me during my absence. I ask this not as a king, but as a friend,” he offered the man an almost pleading look and then turned towards the others, “I know not whether Rosa has informed you of this but… she is with child, and she is now more vulnerable than ever. It is absolutely vital she returns home as soon as possible, too much time has already been wasted.” He looked from person to person one last time, and then humbly bowed his head before them, “My friends, my comrades… I must ask that you lend me your aid once more. With your assistance, we are sure to find her and bring her home safely.”
Notes: Remind me to never write Edgar before Cecil again. Their muses do not match well. So yeah, if it sucks, totally Edgar's fault. >__>[/size]
