The future…
It was in grave danger, Lightning knew that very well. Etro was going to die, Caius Ballad was going to die…everything was going to change. From her seat in Valhalla she had seen everything and fought to change it, but things had only worsened in the process. Snow was lost somewhere, Serah was doomed to die just as Yeul would. Seeing changes in the timeline…it wasn’t fair, and it made Lightning angry, it made her scared, she wanted to protect the future, her sister, and anyone else she could. Ha, this was funny, she was starting to sound a lot like Snow now, wasn’t she? So, where was she exactly? The only place where she could reach people and succeed. The dubbed ‘dream world’ was where she strode, donning her Valhalla guardian armor as she strode across the beach of New Bodhum within this world. It was her dream world, there were no people on the beach, and she had to tap into the powers and gifts granted to her from Etro, she needed to put them to good use to ensure the safety of the future.
How was one supposed to protect a goddess that was doomed to die? A silly and very wild idea had come to the pinkette only a few short hours ago, and she’d spent quite some time hammering out the details, trying to figure out what to do and how it would work. If one ultimate power was to replace another, then everything would be fine? Lightning would be free of service at times, and perhaps Serah could be saved, along with anyone else cursed by all this chaos. The Goddess of Harmony, Cosmos, had come to her mind. Who better to control chaos than one who was against it? To make things better, she needed Cosmos at Etro’s throne, but she wouldn’t be bound there for life, and hopefully the golden goddess would agree to even hear Lightning’s request, her story, and her pleas. With a deep sigh, Lightning pressed a hand near her chest, over the bird-like crest on her armor as she lowered her eyes and head to stare at the ground. She focused all of her energy on Order’s Sanctuary, on Cosmos and her faithful Warrior of Light, whom she knew was at her side at all times.
Opening her eyes, she found herself, her dream world had changed to the watery domain of the Goddess of Harmony, she sitting on her usual seat, perched, and her warrior of at her side. If she was getting this right, then they could see her as well, it wouldn’t last long, things like this were complicated, but with the power of this dream world and the power of Etro combined, it did buy her a bit of time. Aqua eyes stared at the Goddess as she then spoke softly, her mind still focused on where she wanted to be. “Cosmos, Goddess of Harmony…I come to you in a dream-like form, I come seeking your help.” She said in almost a shaky voice, unsure of where her words should go, fearful for the Goddess’ rejection. Getting the attention of them wasn’t hard, even Warrior of Light’s face seemed concerned as she peered at them both, a hand still over her heart as she stood up as tall as she could, her face revealing her obvious worry, her voice doing just the same.
“Please Cosmos, hear my pleas. My world, the future of many worlds is in grave danger. A dark being called the ‘Chaos’ is escaping from the shores of Valhalla, without the Goddess Etro at the throne, there is nothing to control these horrors from escaping, and I fear what will happen to other worlds with the portals. I come here asking if you will please…find it in your power and heart to take over Etro’s throne, Valhalla needs a supreme being, that is a roll I cannot fill.” She said with a saddened look in her eyes. It wasn’t like Lightning to ever plead or beg for something, but this was something she’d get on her knees and cry for. She knelt down to one knee and rested one arm on her propped up knee, showing Cosmos the most respect she deserved by bowing. “Please…” she quietly spoke as her eyes were focused on the water of Order’s Sanctuary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 843 Muse: Great! After all the travelling she’d done lately, both willingly and unwillingly, Cosmos had mixed feelings about being back in Order’s Sanctuary. Of course this place felt like home to her, the sound of streaming water always calmed her nerves, and the peaceful silence helped her focus on the problems at hand, which was usually Chaos and the upcoming cycle. But on the other hand, it had lost some of its charm now that she’d seen other, much livelier places, such as that little seaside village she and Warrior had ended up in after the manikin attack. Even so, this was where she was supposed to be, and both she and the Warrior of Light seemed to understand that. For some reason, she felt stronger here than she’d felt anywhere else, and the goddess wasn’t sure if she was just imagining things, or if this particular world really did boost her powers a little.
With a sigh, the golden haired woman rested her chin on one of her hands as she looked around the solemn world of order, her expression remaining mostly stoic until her eyes finally landed on Warrior, which brightened her mood a little and made her smile for a second. Leaving the Sanctuary to explore other worlds had been one of the most exciting things she’d ever done, but that wasn’t the only good thing that had come from leaving her home. It was still somewhat hard to grasp that they were actually ‘together’ now. Looking back at when they’d first met, it was incredible to imagine just how far they’d come together. Her smile faded some when she sensed someone else entering her realm, not because she was worried about another enemy, but because she sensed great distress from the person who had come to pay her a visit. Of course she knew who it was before the woman’s appearance had fully formed before her, she was, after all, Cosmos’s warrior. She could recognize her warriors anywhere, at anytime.
As she’d already suspected, Lightning hadn’t come here without a reason. She needed help, and she needed it badly. With a frown, Cosmos nodded her head for the pink haired woman to continue on and request whatever she had come here to request. As she spoke, the only thing the goddess of harmony could do was listen and occasionally nod her head understandingly. Those portals… Cosmos had been worried about those portals before today, though not for the same reason Lightning worried about them. Back when the manikins attacked the Sanctuary, Cosmos had feared that they would somehow be able to use the portals as well, transporting them to other worlds and wreaking havoc there as well. But Chaos pouring through the portals and corrupting, perhaps even destroying worlds? That was far worse than the manikin problem.
What Lightning was asking of her made sense, but at the same time, it was a lot to ask. This Sanctuary was where she was supposed to be, from here, she was supposed to guide her warriors in the fight against Chaos, time and time again. This was the only safe haven in all of Dissidia, well… up until recently anyway, and it was difficult to imagine herself monitoring the fight from a completely different location, a potentially dangerous location, as far as she knew. But then, at the same time, what was the point of fighting her old enemy to restore balance in all the worlds when those worlds were getting destroyed? And didn’t she owe it to her warriors, whom had abandoned their homes and friends numerous times to help her with her fight, to help them with theirs now?
“I… understand your plight, Lightning…” she started uncertainly, still debating the decision in her mind. This wasn’t normally a decision she’d make with haste, normally she’d take the time to properly think things through, but from what Lightning was telling her, there was simply no time to debate this for too long. Chaos was spreading now and it needed to be contained now before there were no worlds left to save. “…and I will grant your request,” She spoke finally, glancing over at Warrior for a quick second and offering him a quick nod of her head as she stepped down from her seat and walked over to Lightning, kneeling down in front of her so they were both at the same level. “I know it isn’t easy for you to remain here in this form, but please, before you go, tell me… how do I reach Etro’s throne? And how has this horror come to pass?”
Back in the good old days, Cosmos would’ve likely figured out a way to get to this… Valhalla, was it? By herself. But the last cycle had weakened her, and some of her powers weren’t what they used to be. It was a heavy price to pay, but she had paid it gladly to see her warriors succeed in their struggles against both Chaos and themselves. At times like this though, Cosmos wondered if it had been the right decision to make. But what was done was done, and one could not simply go back in time to do things differently, not unless they were willing to change the entire timeline, which was a dangerous thing indeed. No one could be foolish enough to do something like that and expect everything to turn out alright.

Lightning was no fool, she knew this was a lot to ask and she expected a rejection, or at least she had prepared herself for one, but even simple words of wisdom from the Goddess of Harmony would be much appreciated, still…this was another way to save her sister, somehow…she’d make things right again, everyone would live peacefully together whether they liked it or not. All Light really wanted these days was to be home with her family, to be a part of the world like she once was, not some forgotten memory that was stuck fighting a mad man in Valhalla who was trying to destroy time and what not. Life was never easy on Claire Farron, never. Her parents had died, she had to take on the roles of parents for Serah, the l’cie thing, and now this? How much did one have to sacrifice before peace was finally restored? What more did they want to take from her? The very air she was breathing, perhaps.
After having appeared to Cosmos and her most faithful of warriors, the Warrior of Light, Lightning did her best to briefly explain and not waste the goddess’ time as well as her own. It was difficult to remain in this form and maintain contact, everything about this was complex, but she struggled and used every bit of power she had to try and save the future, to save her sister. With a pleading look on her face, the pinkette stared forward at Cosmos, trying to read her face before aqua eyes flickered to the Warrior, a man whom Lightning had come to call a comrade, a friend of sorts as they fought alongside one another during the Dissidia cycles, if not Lightning, then maybe the Warrior of Light could talk to Cosmos about this? Should his feelings be towards helping that is. She knew how protective Warrior was of Cosmos…so throwing her into a new battle that wasn’t even hers to fight wasn’t smart, but…would he go for it?
Hearing the words from Cosmos’ mouth though caused Lightning a bit of shock. A small gasp escaped her lips as she looked up at the seated Goddess. Hell, even the look on Warrior’s face was shocked as he turned to Cosmos, raising an eyebrow and giving her a questioning tone. “Cosmos?” he’s spoke almost hesitantly, wondering if she knew what she was getting herself into. Oh well, wherever Cosmos went, Warrior was sure to follow. How did one get to Valhalla anyways? Well, at least Lightning could provide that much information, it seemed that she had this all thought out, even if the answer was going to be a no, it was always nice to have things thought out beforehand. At least they could get straight to the point and be on their way to Valhalla in no time.
With Cosmos at eyelevel, Lightning took in a breath, trying to maintain a good connection with Order’s Sanctuary. A good way to be brief about all of this…well, there was no brief way, but she’d have to make due for a short response, Lightning was straining enough to keep herself here for the time being. “The timeline…it has been ripped open. The Goddess Etro, killed. Time has stopped and taken over Gran pulse, releasing the Chaos from Valhalla’s shores. A man, Caius Ballad seeks to continue this for the sake of one girl, Yeul. A high power must be at the throne to contain the chaos, to…make things right, this isn’t just for me…the worlds themselves are in jeopardy.” Lightning spoke quietly before looking up, standing up and directing her attention towards the Warrior of Light as he took steps closer to be near Cosmos and listen in. With a steady gaze, she gave him a small nod, figuring he would be going with Cosmos to Valhalla, so…how to get there? “From Pulse there are many gates, it is basically Valhalla itself…find the right gate, and you’re there. I’ve got someone who can help you…he can meet you on Pulse and help you guys there.” “And who is this fellow?” Warrior asked as he could tell Lightning’s connection here was starting to weaken. “Snow Villiers, you can trust him, I promise. So Cosmos, Warrior…thank you. I’ll…see you on the other side.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 841 Muse: Great! Lightning coming to her for help always put Cosmos on edge, because the pinkette wasn’t one who asked for assistance lightly. The woman seemed to prefer working alone over working with others, and she was the type who fixed her own problems rather than running to someone else. When she did come to you, you could be sure that whatever her situation was, it was bad. Probably very bad, because otherwise she would’ve handled it herself.
Cosmos swallowed almost nervously when Lightning approached her, her eyes remained intently focused on the other woman’s face as she waited for her to speak of her troubles. It was quite clear that, whatever means she’d used to come here to the goddess, it was draining her energy, and fast. With this kept in mind, Cosmos decided to remain quiet as Lightning explained her situation to her, and then made a request that many would’ve denied. After all, she wasn’t asking for something small. She was asking for Cosmos to take on even more responsibility than she already had by replacing another goddess and using what powers she had left to contain a strange force of chaos that was pouring through the portals, corrupting everything in its path. Truthfully, Cosmos wasn’t even certain if she could contain it at all. Doing so would require a great deal of power, and a lot of the goddesses power was lost during the last cycle. Nevertheless, her duty had always been to protect the worlds against Chaos’s influence. So what if they were different entities? Her duty remained the same, whether it meant fighting a person or a force of nature.
Both Lightning and the Warrior of Light seemed startled that she so easily agreed to such a major request, but to Cosmos, it was only logical for her to agree. For centuries, she’d fought to create a better world for everyone. Now this ‘chaos’ threatened everything she’d ever fought for. If she couldn’t contain it, then there wouldn’t be any worlds left to fight for. The cycles would end, and Cosmos would lose her sole purpose. All of the sacrifices not only she, but all of her warriors, had made would be a vain. All of these years of fighting would have been for nothing. No, Cosmos couldn’t walk away from this. It was just out of question. A light smile broke through her usually peaceful and somewhat stoic expression when she heard her most loyal of warriors speak her name in a questioning tone. Reaching a hand out, she lightly patted his shoulder as she passed him by, “I know,” she told him simply, “We can speak of this later.” Right now, she needed to get some answers out of the pinkette that still kneeled down before her, before the warrior lost her connection to this world and faded away again. “Time has… stopped?” she repeated with a gasp and a look of shock. Things were worse than she’d thought if this chaos had stopped time itself. The goddess looked down into the water for a second as she thought on how she could possibly hope to fix this mess, her head occasionally nodded to show Lightning that she was still paying attention to her words. Cosmos was a goddess, but that didn’t mean she could do everything. Fighting Chaos, that she could do. But fixing time? That was something she’d never had to do before, it was something completely out of her league, and the golden haired woman had no idea whether she even had the power to deal with something like that. Even so, if she was the only one who had even the slightest chance of putting this right again, she had to try. Maybe being in Valhalla would give her an idea of what to do?
“Be strong, Lightning,” she spoke quietly as the woman disappeared almost as fast as she’d appeared. Even with Lighting gone, Cosmos remained in her position as she thought about this some more. So what they’d have to do was meet up with a man named Snow Villiers, who would then take them to Pulse and then to Valhalla? And then once they got there… then what? Cosmos frowned when her mind was unable to come up with a possible solution to all of this. She’d have to find one though, she’d already promised Lightning that she’d take care of it. She’d given her warrior hope, and she couldn’t let that hope turn out to be false. “Time has stopped…” she spoke again when she got back to her feet and turned towards the Warrior of Light, “Chaos is spreading through the portals…” she crossed her arms and managed a sad smile, “Does all of this sound like a cruel joke to you as well? For so long we’ve been fighting here to ensure that a situation like this wouldn’t happen. And now it’s happening anyway…” it was all just really disappointing. It felt like nothing she’d done in the past had really mattered at all, because everything she’d wanted to prevent had still happened. Cosmos couldn’t help but feel down about this. Hopefully they really could make it right again.

This was so weird, so unexpected, and so unlike Lightning. Warrior stood at Cosmos’ side remaining quite for the most part, his mind racing, his eyes glued to the pinkette but occasionally looking back to the Goddess of Harmony. Did Lightning even realize what it was she was asking? It was a big favor for someone of even Cosmos’ status to fulfill. Still, Warrior couldn’t deny that he probably would’ve done the same thing. Lightning seemed desperate and out of options, he could respect her reaching out to someone and asking for help, and since Warrior was a faithful leader, a representative of the light, there was no way he would sit back and let all of this take place. Whether it was his world or not, in the end everyone would be affected. The chaos needed to be stopped, Light needed to be restored to the world of Gran Pulse, and maybe with Cosmos in Valhalla, all of this could be accomplished?
Feeling the pat on his shoulder as Cosmos passed him to speak with Lightning more up close and personal, he still kept his stance, staying back where he was next to Cosmos’ seat within Order’s sanctuary, standing tall like any soldier – or in his case, knight – as he waited to see what Cosmos would say. She’d agreed, and Warrior didn’t figure she’d do any different, of course the quick decision had brought a bit of concern to his face, that didn’t matter though, being slow when danger was spreading right now was not what should happen. Hearing Lightning explain everything, about how time had stopped, it brought Warrior’s mind and logic to a screeching halt. Was a timeless world even possible? Apparently it was, and it made him more interested and determined to aid in any way he could, Lightning was a fellow comrade, Cosmos was his goddess to protect, he was not staying behind and that was final, not that anyone would object. He assumed that the more help, the merrier. If he had to raise his shield and sword to protect the light of another world, then he’d gladly take the beating it was surely going to lay out for him and the rest of the warriors fighting for Gran Pulse. It was settled, between Cosmos’ agreeing to help, and Warrior’s inner determination, things were going to turn around.
“Thank you…” Lightning had commented with a small sincere smile, something Warrior had seen but once in his time knowing her, and he was happy to know that their assistance would bring peace to the pinkette. Watching her connection to Order’s Sanctuary fade, he finally moved from his frozen statue state and moved a few steps towards Cosmos. “A cruel joke indeed. But if we can manage to help Lightning and rid her world of this chaos, then we can prove that the light will always prevail.” He nodded towards the blond with a look of encouragement before he started thinking to himself. If everyone in Lightning’s time was running around frantic, how was he to know that this Snow Villiers was going to show? And where was he going to meet them? He could go help Lightning fight, help her comrades face the chaos while Warrior got Cosmos to Valhalla, but of course he wasn’t going to do it alone. An idea came to the knight’s head, and it clearly showed on his face as his expression changed from cold almost stone-like features to one of softness and optimism. “This Snow, he is best fighting at the side of his comrades against this Chaos.” As if someone – perhaps Lightning? – were reading his mind, he watched as a portal-like gate appeared to where the pinkette had once stood. This was a sign, and for him only.
Looking to Cosmos as his eyes wanted to draw back to the portal. He moved over and placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing his hand slightly to assure her of his words. “I shall move with haste, but I believe there is someone else I need to fetch for this journey before we venture for Valhalla. I’ll be back soon, of that you can be sure, and when I come back…I’ll have Firion with me.” He stated before giving her an assuring smile and dropping his hand from her shoulder, moving towards the portal and letting it take him to where he needed to go…he knew it would take him to the right place, it had to. ‘If anyone can make this right…this darkness that is lurking…it will be Cosmos.’ Warrior thought to himself as he went along his way.
‘I sure hope so.’ Lightning had responded within the mind of the Warrior of Light. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 914 Muse: Great! There were some moments in life where you didn’t even need to think about what to do, because the situation was so huge, so important, that you couldn’t possibly sit back and do nothing. That was exactly what Cosmos felt as soon as Lightning finished her story and asked her for help. As always, she’d needed a moment to think things through, but the only conclusion the goddess got to was that there was really no way she could say no to this. Her entire life, perhaps her entire existence was dedicated to fighting off Chaos and bringing forth balance in the different worlds. Whether this Chaos took on the form of a person or not didn’t matter, the only thing that mattered was that it was stopped, sooner rather than later. It had already affected the timeline, who knew what else it would corrupt if left to roam freely through the portals? No, there was no choice to be made here. Cosmos’s choice had been made for her the moment Chaos had been released on Lightning’s world. Thankfully, the Warrior of Light seemed to understand the magnitude of this problem as well, as he didn’t object when she informed her warriors of her decision. He seemed uncertain for a moment, but that was perfectly understandable. Cosmos herself had some doubts about this, but right now was not the moment to dwell on them. Now was the time to act, to save what could still be saved, and hopefully to restore what had already been lost. The first thing they’d need to do was get time to flow normally again, because in a timeless world, nothing worked as it should. They couldn’t hope to reclaim the worlds that had already been taken by Chaos unless they fixed the timeline first. Lightning mentioned a man named Snow… he was going to help them get to Valhalla somehow? Cosmos nodded her head slowly in agreement to her words. If Lightning trusted this Snow, then Cosmos could trust him as well.
The goddess nodded again, and smiled gently when Lightning thanked her. That was something she’d never seen the pinkette do before; smiling. It suited her. Maybe once all of this was over, she would be able to smile more often. When the woman faded once more, Cosmos stood back up again and looked back over to the Warrior of Light, expressing some of her feelings on this matter. She couldn’t help but smile a little at his words. He really was the most dedicated and loyal of all her warriors, wasn’t he? “Indeed,” she agreed, “This is just one more trial for us to overcome.” It was good to know that he wasn’t going to try and talk her out of this decision, not that she’d thought he would… Warrior knew perfectly well what was at stake here. Still, when he’d given her that look a few moments ago, she’d worried a little about what his reaction might be. His dedication to the light was apparent, but then, his dedication to her ran deep as well, and he’d mentioned more than once that he wanted to keep her safe. There was no telling if she was going to be alright after this, Cosmos had never ‘taken over’ for another goddess after all, and who knew what she’d have to do to get where everyone wanted her to be? But both of them understood that those were thoughts for later, and for that, the goddess of harmony was grateful. “I am inclined to agree…” the golden haired woman crossed her arms and tilted her head a little, unaware of the portal forming somewhere behind her, “But who else could assist us with this matter?” she supposed she could summon one or more of her warriors here… most of them would be willing to help, for sure, but she felt like it would be better if they remained on their own worlds to protect it from the chaos in whatever way they could. Of course, stopping the problem before it actually got to their worlds would probably be a much better idea. But who to call then? Was it even wise to use her powers for this? Gods knew she would need all her strength for what they were about to do in Valhalla…
The goddess’s head turned when she felt Warrior’s hand squeeze her shoulder a little. He wanted to find and bring Firion here? That was probably a good idea, Firion would definitely try to help them in whatever way they could, and hadn’t the two of them travelled through different portals before? They’d have a better shot at getting her to where she needed to be than the others, who had never travelled outside their home worlds before. Her eyes widened some when she finally spotted the portal. How long had that been there? Was it save to travel through it? Warrior seemed to trust it, and he knew more about these things than she did. And she did trust his judgment, so… she really should just let him do his thing. He’d never let her down before, and she didn’t see him doing so any time soon either. And so, she nodded her head as she took a step backwards, away from the portal so she wouldn’t accidentally be taken along as well. “Very well then, I will wait here until you return. Good luck Warrior.“ As soon as he disappeared from her sight, so did the portal. It could be a coincidence, but somehow, she didn’t think it was that simple. It seemed like the portal had been placed there specifically for him to use. If so, it was an excellent start to the task at hand, and Cosmos felt a little bit more positive about how all this would work out. She’d keep the possibility of this ending in tragedy in the back of her mind, but she wouldn’t let it cloud her feelings entirely. With both Lightning and Warrior gone, Cosmos slowly made her way back to her throne and sat back down, quietly clasping her hands in her lap. Now, all she could do was wait. Wait, and pray that this story had a happy ending. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Words: 1040 Tagged: Lightning/Warrior Location: Order’s Sanctuary Outfit: Regular Notes: I’d say this one’s finished, no?
