Ceodore tapped his foot over and over on the carpeted floor. He was waiting for Edge to show up. It had only been recently that some guy had attacked his world, and the other had suggested that they went out for a bite to eat. And now... he was late. Well, only by a couple of minutes. It wasn’t hours, or anything like that. And it wasn’t that Ceodore had somewhere to be. It was just a bit of an observation. The blond was a little curious, to see if Edge had anything he particularly wanted to talk about, or if it was just a casual chat. Not that it really mattered. It would be nice to get some company, right? Better than being stuck at home with nothing to do. They were always the days Ceodore disliked the most. They just went so slowly that you felt like you would go mad from boredom. Ceodore looked around. This place was usually quiet. Only on big occasions and holidays that it got overly busy. It was very select on it’s customers, to begin with. When he was younger, Ceodore didn’t understand entirely why some people could come in and why other could not. As he got older, though, that’s when he started to understand it all. It was all for those of higher ranking than the average person, in a way to put it. As he was very high up, there wasn’t really many places Ceodore couldn’t go. But, he didn’t really like to use his title as a way to do what he wanted. And if it were only that simple. There was etiquette, and how a prince should behave and such. It was a little boring, but it had to be done, after all. He didn’t really mind though.
Ceodore looked over at the door, and he let out a small sigh. How long was Edge going to be? He hoped it wouldn’t be that much longer. Sitting by yourself was a little boring. You had to entertain yourself, and that was sometimes easier said than done. Unlike when the attack had first happened, the action had been a little low key. Well, for Ceodore, anyway. Thus, days had been slow. Lot’s of things had happened during that attack, most of them bad things. It was scary, how people could just attack with such heartlessness that they had no consider to the damage they were causing. It was almost like they had no care for anything. That was always a bit worrying. Worrying for that person’s sanity, and the safeguard of those around. It all depended on people’s actions. Within a blink of an eye, things could go upside-down and things could easily change and turn manic. Ceodore rested his elbow on the table, and rested his chin on his palm in thought. All of the events recently had caused him to think a lot more about things, and definitely try to look after those things he cherished a whole lot more. A lot of thinking. Snapping out of his daze with a few blinks, he straightened his back a little. All that leaning forward slightly wasn’t good for your posture. Painful backs and all that when you’re older was something he would definitely not enjoy when he reached that age. Thus, he was trying to prevent it as much as he could as soon as possible. He rolled his shoulders forward, before shaking his head, clearing his thoughts.Ceodore looked over at the door, and waited for Edge. Hopefully before he lost his sanity. At least things were calming down.
The city was still primarily in shambles, especially on the outer portions just within the walls, but all in all the disaster that had struck Baron was being resolved. Cecil had been found, which was the first good thing. All of the stragglers from the Cie'th force of the bastard who'd attacked them had been dealt with. Things were returning to normal. The only bad part about it was that it meant Edge and Rydia were going to have to be heading back to their own home soon, now that they were no longer needed here anymore. Edge had already provided all the engineers and spare soldiers he possibly could for the cleanup effort, and aside from that and a little help with some administration and direction (mostly before Cecil had been recovered), there wasn't too much more he could do. The unfortunate truth was that he and Rydia were needed back home in case Eblan too was attacked in the same way. So while their visit hadn't come under the best of circumstances, it was still a bit bittersweet to have to leave.
But Edge was going to make sure he at least spent some time with everyone here he could while he had the chance. Obviously, he'd been working with Rosa almost the whole time, attempting to help her. He'd checked on Cecil a few times when he'd been getting checked and patched up upon his return. That left Ceodore. Edge could easily say he'd never had more respect for a boy in his mid-teens in his entire life. Of course, Edge didn't need to look any further than Ceodore's parents to see where he'd gotten that respectful persona, like one didn't need to look any further than Edge and Rydia to probably see...whatever they saw in their own children. Unfortunately, though, the last few times Edge had been around Baron, Ceodore had been in the field training. They'd said a few words to each other but nothing more. Ceodore, though, was becoming a man a little along, and that meant he wanted to find out some things...there was a big difference between thirteen and sixteen, so Edge wanted to see what had changed. It was a man-talk he had in mind, but he hadn't informed Ceodore of that when he'd informed him to meet him. Cecil could give the kid a man-talk, sure, but Cecil wore lipstick. Edge thought he could give a little more...potent swing on things, if they conversed.
And so Edge had not forgotten about their meeting, even if Rydia had held him up a few seconds with those distracting ways of hers. Edge slipped his way, silently as ever, into the place he was set to meet Ceodore, spotting the top of the boy's head across the room, his back turned to him. Right, good. Glancing at a couple of the other patrons, though the place was primarily quiet, and Edge kept silent as he stepped over to the table and dropped smoothly into the seat, propping an elbow on the table and smiling across at the still very-young man. "I hope you don't mind the food here, Ceodore," he spoke up, glancing towards the back of the place where the kitchen was. "You should never tell Rydia, but I first found this place when I was a few years older than you and had come here on a goodwill mission for my father." He leaned back in his seat, shrugging a little. "I remember nothing but that the waitresses were gorgeous." Yes, he'd been a muuuuch younger man then...and of course, at the time, he'd never even met Rydia or known she'd existed. Funny to look back on those times now...and realize how stupid he could typically be at the time.
But this wasn't a meeting about him. "How are you lately?"

Having Edge quickly arrive had made Ceodore jump slightly He wasn’t sure how he managed to stay so quiet. His boots had always made a bit more noise than he liked to hoped. It wasn’t very helpful when he tried to be silent… like a ninja. Especially in combat, or in the field. It would definitely give away his position, would it not? That was always a bad thing, right? ”I’m sure it will be fine.” He nodded. It looked nice enough, and that was all that mattered. But then again, he shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Ceodore never liked it when people treated him differently because of status. It wasn’t that important, couldn’t they just treat him like anybody else? They judged him slightly, and so, to not be hypocritical, he didn’t judge when he could help it. ”Hm? Well, I’m sure that secret can stay between us two, Edge.” Ceodore didn’t think Rydia would appreciate Edge saying that.
Cedore tilted his head to the side, and chuckled a little. ”Really? I didn’t notice, to be fair.” It was true. Maybe he was a bit too caught up in battle to think about things like that. They just go straight over his head. He just thought that other things were more important. Was that so bad? Still, for Edge to think that, he must have been much younger. Rydia would not be impressed if he knew. ”I’m sure Rydia would not be amused.” That was a bit of an understatement. Ceodore looked down at the table for a moment, deeply thinking. Rydia must’ve not been in the picture at that time, or did Edge not even know she had existed at that point in life? Hmm, that seemed possible. He smirked slightly. ”I understand.” He nodded. He just hoped that little secret wouldn’t come out anytime soon. If it did, well, everybody, take cover. The world is about to end in a pit of fire. Well, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration.
Ceodore put his arms on the table. ”I’m fine. I’ve been training a lot more, trying to build up my strength. I need to be ready, right?” He shook his head to himself slightly. Yeah, he needed to protect his family, both Mum and Dad. Cecil and Rosa. ”How about you, Edge? I haven’t seen you around for a while.” Well, maybe that Ceodore’s fault as well. His attention had been taken up an awful lot with training, and sorting out numerous things. He couldn’t specify things, but he had been busy a lot. Thankfully, and fortunately, he had been free a lot more now. Ceodore rubbed his eyes with his thumb and index finger, before putting both of his heads down on the table. ”How’s life been going on your end?” [/size] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 641 Muse:; Great! "Good thing," Edge told the younger man, on the subject of Rydia. "She has a whip, you know." Of course, they did have that conversation before they'd come to Baron on how she'd beat back these young women that still occasionally bothered Edge if she needed to. Now that might be an entertaining thing to have happen...inconvenient, perhaps, but still entertaining. Besides, she already knew she had his eye...well, both of his eyes, squarely on her at all times.
Of greater interest to Edge was that Ceodore said he didn't notice the waitresses, which Edge took as a way of Ceodore admitting he didn't notice women much in general. The king's expression dampened slightly as he regarded the young man before him, arms crossing over his chest as he did so. Ceodore wasn't really a man yet, despite having the same kind of frame as Cecil. But he was still a kid, so that would come in time. He did have a good bit of Rosa's looks on his side, though, which would be enough, combined with the fact that Ceodore already looked the part with a sword in his hand and armor on his shoulders, to have women interested in him. Heck, he probably had half of the noble's daughters swooning already without even having tried. And here he was, saying he wasn't paying them much mind. Or...well, he wasn't saying that, but it was what Edge was inferring, and he thought he had a basis for assuming such a thing. Even now, all these years later, Edge wondered how Cecil had been able to woo a woman as beautiful as Rosa. Like father like son was possibly the case here.
But Edge didn't start pounding the kid about the comment just yet. Instead, he was going to be tactful about it, and bring up the conversation where it best fit. He dropped his elbows on the table as Ceodore explained he'd spent most of his time in training lately. Edge nodded in agreement to the younger fellow's rhetorical question. Well there might have been an explanation fo why Ceodore wouldn't pay women enough attention. Too busy training. Edge could understand what it was like to be the only son of a great warrior - two great warriors, actually. Edge had felt some of the same conviction to better himself to live up to the precedent his own parents had established as king and queen of Eblan. So he couldn't blame Ceodore for putting himself underneath the chisel in an attempt to carve himself out as a worthy heir to the throne.
But Edge knew as well as anyone that there was also time to be a prince, too, and in a way, that time probably was a healthy thing.
When Edge's question was returned to him, he leaned back in his seat slightly, returning his arms to a comfortable position on t. "Equal parts busy and pleasurable," he said, looking off at the back wall as he considered things. "All of it good for the most part. Everyone in the family has decided I'm apparently an old man now that I'm over...that age." He shook his head to himself, looking down at Ceodore. "I don't look a day older than when you were old enough to recognize me, do I? Rydia just doesn't want to admit I age as well as she does."
He poked a finger at Ceodore's chest, narrowing his eyes on the boy. "When your father turns forty, I expect you to ride him high about it, too. Tell him his hair is turning a whole new shade of white."

Ceodore’s eyes widened slightly. He wasn’t really expecting that, not from Rydia. Mind you, he didn’t know what she was capable of. Just the mental picture of Rydia chasing some people –mainly girls- with some whip was a funny picture indeed. He wouldn’t put it past her, after all. Women could most definitely be scary when they wanted to be. At last, he had known from observing.
He was a little confused about Edge’s comment nearer the beginning. That, and the look on Edge’s face showed Ceodore that the king hadn’t expected that reaction. Had it been something he said? Surely it couldn’t have been that bad, right? He felt rather confused now. Oh… Oh~! He got it now. Was it the fact that Ceodore had said he hadn’t noticed women very much? Well, it was true. He was much more focused on other things, such as training and planning. At the moment, his heart belonged to the battleground. That wasn’t that bad, right? He wanted and needed to be strong. For his parents, and his people. However, strength wasn’t just physically. He had to train his mind mentally daily also. If you can’t be stable in the mind, what point was there to train physically? It made sense, after all. Ceodore was only rationalizing things, as all. Now that he thought about it, a lot of the nobles were talking to him about marriage. Subtle hinted perhaps? That, and so were their daughters….
Training was definitely the main thing on Ceodore’s mind at the moment. Everything was behind that. He needed to be a god heir, a worthy heir. Nothing less would be acceptable, in his eyes. Ceodore had his father to follow. And his mother, too. He didn’t have the time to think of other things. Wake up, train, eat, train, sleep and repeat the process. That routine was stuck into his mind, fixed and etched. Both of his parents had set up a high standard that he needed to achieve. It was difficult, and required a lot of hard work, and a fair share of blood, sweat and tears. Battle plans and theories were the only things that had plagued his mind recently, having to be completely flawless before he would even think of initiating them. Not a single thing could go wrong. Ceodore needed certainty.
Ceodore clicked his fingers, and nodded a little in turn. He rested his forearms on the table. He scoffed and laughed lightly. ”Trust me, I will.” He sat back and crossed his arms. He shrugged. ”To be honest, I can’t see the difference between then and now.” He shrugged again. It was, but he could’t remember much when he was younger, anyway. Most people can’t remember many faces, and Ceodore was no exception to that. But, Edge hadn’t really changed much from when he could remember.
