Kenji Chan
"Justice will be done. No matter the cost."
Custom Title: The Hand of Judgment
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Family: None worth mentioning, as they're all deceased.
Race: Human
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Home World: The Planet
Alignment: Debateable. He's on the path of justice, or so he believes, so anyone he belives is corrupt will meet their end by his blade or spell. A lot of times, that means he'll be up against villains. But sometimes, he might go too far...
Job: Bounty Hunter / Assassin / Mercenary. Guy's gotta eat.
Items: Just a silver crescent moon necklace.
Accessories: A cellphone for work.
Appearance
Kenji stands at an average of about 5' 10". Asian, he has somewhat short black hair and oddly enough, emerald green eyes. He has a lean but somewhat muscular build, as if though someone had condensed a lot of power and packed it into Kenji's body. His face, although young, belies much more experience than his age, and both his expression and eyes often hold no emotion so one cannot easily tell what he is thinking.
As for clothes, Kenji wears rather ordinary clothes - he wears a black t-shirt with a lightning-blue dragon in front, and a Yin-Yang symbol in the back, jeans and sneakers. He also wears a pair of glasses as he's slightly far-sighed. All in all, he looks like a bit of a nerd - one's first and last mistake. He takes off his glasses when he's in heavy combat, though his far-sightedness doesn't seem to hinder his combat ability.
When he's on the job and/or hunting, he switches clothes. He wears a black robe-shirt (think ninja shirt) with black pants. Over that, he wears a black trenchcoat, unbuttoned to provide easy access to his Blade of Balance, with a hood that's consistently raised to hide his face. There are two reasons for his clothing. 1) Functionality. The trenchcoat could be easily taken off if necessary. 2) Intimidation. In these clothes, Kenji has often been mistaken for the Grim Reaper, and even a second's worth of hesitation from fear could decide a fight.
Personality:
The first impression one gets of Kenji is that he is somewhat cold and aloof. He speaks little and if he does, he speaks with a rather cool tone. It's not from any unfriendliness or hostility, however - it's simply the way he talks. He speaks politely and humbly, though, but is clearly a no-nonsense type of person and is not the type to like small talk.
To those he cares about or trusts, though, Kenji lowers the ice barrier a good deal. He's rather kind and warm, a ready friend willing to aid if needed. He has a small michievous sense of humor, and can be somewhat ill-tempered - though the worst he'll do is dopeslap the offender. Anyone who dares harm those that he cares about, though, better have their will written - Kenji will not hesitate to destroy them brutally and cruelly without any mercy.
Another aspect of Kenji is being a prodigy. Talented and driven, if he seeks to master something, he can and will, given some time. Because of that, he can participate in battles only experienced warriors would join in after only a few years of training and live combat experience.
Honor is something Kenji understands, but he finds it to be a hindrance. As such, he's not above using underhanded tactics, be it taking hostages or breaking rules or such like. He's pragmatic to the core, and not to mention ruthless. He is determined, but also cunning. Honor has its uses, but the reality is that honor is obsolute to all but the most foolish.
A large aspect of Kenji, though, is his sense of justice. He utterly hates corruption and injustice wherever he sees it, and has taken it upon himself to end it however he can. His definition of corruption and injustice is much the same as others, but with some very notable exceptions: Atoners can only atone with their lives, and those who oppose his justice are also corrupt and unjust, and therefore must also perish. He understands grey lines somewhat and can be reasoned with, but most of the time, if you are what he considers to be an offense to justice, you will die. And just as he's capable of incredible kindness, Kenji is also capable of unimagineable cruelty.
History:
Kenji used to be just a young boy living in Midgar with his parents in the slums. Although they were poor, they were relatively happy together, and both his parents and he were rather popular in the neighborhood due to their kind natures. However, they lived right under Sector 7. When the whole plate came down, Kenji managed to make it out. Barely. His parents weren't so lucky.
He was cunning, however, and figured out that ShinRa was responsible for the deaths of so many, and their many inhumane actions. Hatred for their injustice and how they got so powerful with their methods seethed within Kenji. He began training, teaching himself swordsmanship, martial arts, and magic whenever and however he could. He used whatever resources he could to further his power, and that eventually led to researching other fields when he couldn't do any further than wha he could already find out.
Although he was not given the opportunity to exact vengeance, the burning hatred given by his ideals had not quenched at all. He began taking on his work as a bounty hunter / assassin / mercenary. He successfully takes out his targets, but if his clients are corrupt and unjust, he'll have no qualms about killing them either, taking all of their cash to boot as a bit of a karmic punishment for them - sometimes even doing so when he just recieved his payment.
Now that the portals to other worlds have opened up, Kenji wanders the universe, planning and killing each and every corrupt person out there - or at least, though he believes are corrupt. No matter what the cost is, it will be done.
Abilities:
Intelligence - Kenji is a child prodigy, and hence far more cunning than your average person. He learns quickly to the point where he could become a scientist if he wanted to, and is quick to assay different situations in combat.
Summons:
None. Yet.
Magic:
- Haste
- Cure
- Aeroga
- Shell
- Blizza
Strengths:
- Exceptionally intelligent and cunning
- Determined to the bitter end
- Loyal and kind, if one can get to that part.
Weaknesses:
- Has a tendency to see things in black-and-white, with himself firmly in the position of 'white'.
- To those he deems unjust and corrupt, he can be utterly and very brutally cruel.
- A lack of his own self-preservation. He cares little about his own well-being, only caring if he survives or lives if it would serve justice more (and to his conclusion, it often does).
Weapon
A katana, which he named the Blade of Balance, but it is a special weapon that Kenji had gotten from Lifestream-knows-where. It's a special weapon whose blade is black as the void on one side, and silver like a regular katana on the other. It has a golden hilt with a black sharkskin handle. The sword can actually split apart into dual katanas, one with a normal katana blade, the other a void black katana blade. To top of the versatility, it can also be connected by the handles, creating a special dual-bladed staff.
Crushes: So far, none. Kenji hasn't had time for romance.
How did you find us? Really?
Role Play Sample: Since I have no reference to give, despite you probably already knowing how I RP...
Kenji walked calmly through the dark streets of Edge. The rain fell hard through the darkened skies, with the few people still outside rushing for cover or trying to get their business done with as soon as possible. Kenji ignored them. Over his normal clothes, he wore a black coat with the hood raised. It helped him blend in. It also made him look like the Grim Reaper himself descended - an apt metaphor. People will die tonight. Whether it was many or few depends on circumstance.
Turning down a corner alleyway, he moved quietly, the only sounds he was making muffled by the patter of the rain. He reached a metal door that had an eyeslit - probably for the guard to look out and see who it was. Kenji quietly slid his katana, his Blade of Balance, out and knocked, the sound echoing through the alley. The eyeslit opened, showing a pair of irritated eyes.
"Wha? Who is - GAH!"
Before the man coud finish, Kenji had rapidly stabbed through the eyeslit, and withdrew his Blade. Placing a hand on the door, he fired a Blizza spell, and the door was blasted back about ten feet, frozen solid. There were other men attempting to draw their guns in a panic, trying to shoot him before he could get close. Too late. Kenji closed the distance, and with a few strokes, they were all slices to pieces at his feet.
Kenji did not even spare a glance at his victims, striding past their bodies and their blood to another locked door, then deciding to pick up a pistol on the way. Tucking his katana under arm for a moment, he checked the ammo. A full cartridge. Good. Sliding the gun cartridge back into place, he once again took hold of his Blade, the gun in his other hand, and he went into the next room. This time, it was filled with prepared men, armed with guns and blades.
What followed was nothing short of a massacre. Using his gun until it ran out of bullets, Kenji threw the gun next and then sliced up each and every man. HE used a Thundaga, which roasted no few number of men. By the time he was done, the whole room was nothing more than a sea of corpses and blood. Only two men were alive. Kenji and a fat, richly dressed man who cowered behind a chair. The man was a local politician. He had a good reputation, but Kenji had found out that he had been dealing with criminal organizations. He would not be allowed to live.
The man began stammering out something. Kenji did not hear what it was. He had no reason to hear. He knew everything about the man after all his research. No doubt it was perhaps a bargaining attempt - bribe him with money, power, woman, and such like. Kenji had but one indulgence: Justice. Swift and deadly. With a single swing of his Blade, the man's head flew off, and the body collapse, a dull thud announcing the landing of the head moments later.
Wiping his Blade off the dead man's clothes, he sheathed his sword and turned to leave. The blood of the corrupt and unjust flowed below him. But mattered not at all to Kenji. In fact, it satisfied him. In fact, his goal had been achieved.
Swift death to evil.
