Appearance
Deuce is a short girl standing at about 5’3”. She has brown hair that reaches just past her shoulders and is cut in layers, and large emotive green eyes. She keeps part of her hair tied back with a blue band but leaves the rest loose. Like all Class Zero members, she wears a uniform that consists of a black jacket, a red skirt, and a red cape. Deuce's cape wraps around her neck and shoulders like a scarf.
She can usually be seen with her instrument hanging from a cord around her neck and in the company of her stuffed moogle, that unlike popular belief, she does actually use for serious things such as combat rather than just taking it to keep her company.
Personality:
In general, Deuce is a very sweet and caring girl, always willing to offer a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, though not many people see this side of her due to her quiet and reserved nature. Unlike some of her classmates, Deuce doesn’t make friends easily, and it takes her a while to fully trust new people due to her experiences with bullies. Once she considers you a friend though, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more loyal comrade.
She is very loyal to her duties at Class Zero, and she is kind-hearted and good-natured even if she can be a bit stubborn
Because Deuce’s weapon is so different from those of her classmates, she still spends a lot of time alone despite the fact that she trusts and even likes most of them. She doesn’t always have a choice in the matter, whereas her classmates have to practice their skills in a gym, Deuce has to practice hers in a music room. She enjoys silence and can often be found sitting outside under a tree or by a river or something. Those that know her know that rather than looking for her should you need something, you need to listen instead, because she’s often playing her flute even outside of classes.
Because playing a musical instrument requires a lot of attention and focus, Deuce can really concentrate on her work, and won’t easily be distracted from the task at hand.
She has extremely good hearing and doesn’t enjoy loud noises much, as sometimes she feels like she hears them twice as hard as other people. After studying with Class Zero for a while though, she’s managed to deal with louder voices, since some people (Cinque, among others) aren’t known for their silence. Sounds of construction work or loud spells still tend to work on her nerves though.
Although she might not seem it, Deuce has a more mischievous and curious side to her. When in the company of other people with this trait, she might lose her willpower and give in and listen in on conversations and such.
History:
Like most of her classmates, Deuce grew up in the Rubrum Kingdom, born as the first and last child of one of the most prim and proper couples on this side of the globe. Her father is a police officer, and pretty much drilled a sense of lawfulness into the little girl’s head from the day she was born. Her mother is an opera singer who heavily influenced Deuce’s choices so far. Ever since she was little, Deuce has had an affinity with music and sound, and this is often attributed to the fact that her mother continued to sing and come to the opera hall even during her pregnancy, nearly giving birth during a rehearsal.
Because of her parents’ choice of careers, Deuce was picked on quite a bit growing up. Up until the age of 10, she barely had any friends. After she joined a school music group, she gained a few friends due to their common interests.
Eventually, her father decided it would be best for Deuce to be around other people rather than spending all her time with either her mother, or other shy and quiet people; she needed to come out of her shell at some point, after all. Though it was her family’s decision to have her enrolled in the Peristerium School of Magic, it was Deuce’s own talent and determination that landed her a spot in Class Zero.
During her childhood, the four nations had coexisted peacefully under the Pax Codex until Cid Aulstyne, High Commander of the Milites Empire, broke the peace treaty and staged an invasion using advanced military technology developed with the power of the Byakko Crystal. With his armada of airships and magitek armor, Cid easily conquered Lorica and Concordia, then moved on to Rubrum where he faced a strong resistance due the nation's magical defenses. Hoping to force the nation's leaders to surrender, Cid staged an attack on Rubrum's Magic Academy, Peristylium Suzaku.
However, Deuce and the people in her class managed to retain the powers from their pact with the Suzaku Crystal. While Cid attempts to negotiate with Rubrum's president, the students of Class Zero are busy organizing Operation Apostle, a covert mission to recapture the crystal and defeat the Milites forces.
Abilities:
- Deuce can cast stronger, more effective spells when using her flute, though it costs more energy to cast them. Her spells are guaranteed to have the desired effect, but the stronger ones might take up to nearly twice as much mana than usually. For this reason, Deuce only casts stronger spells this way when the situation is truly dire.
- She can transfer her magic into her moogle, Mog, and cast through him. All the spells Mog can cast are spells Deuce herself can cast, and they still take up mana, since she’s still the one casting them.
- It seems as if manipulating the pitch of her instrument will cause different effects in battle. Her special ability “Concerto” will create an opening in which you will be able to attack an enemy targeting her.

Role Play Sample:
“Books… check… calculator… check… pens… oh great.” Deuce frowned a little at the discovery of her missing pens. How in the world was she going to take notes during class without writing utensils?! She might as well not go, if she couldn’t find any.
“Mog, where did you hide my pens? You sneaky little bastard?” she mumbled in the direction of her stuffed moogle as she sat on her knees and peered under her bed. Of course, the toy didn’t respond. How could it? It wasn’t alive, and couldn’t even move unless manipulated through magic… Deuce had no delusions about that, but talking to the toy was an old habit of hers, one that died hard, it seemed.
“Come on…” she muttered irritably as she tossed all sorts of crap aside in an attempt to find what she was looking for. As she flung a final pillow away, she finally spotted a pen.
“Yes!” she laughed as she grabbed it and went to test it out, “…no.” of course there was a reason the pen lay beneath the bed rather than on a desk; It was out of ink!
“Ooh, forget it!” she groaned as she got back up and grabbed her flute from the desk before playing a single tone, bringing the previously inanimate moogle into motion and hanging the instrument around her neck, “Maybe the teacher has a spare…” walking over to her moogle, she tied a small stop-watch around its neck and headed for the door.
Unlike her classmates, Deuce’s ‘weapon’ of choice didn’t require her to run around quite as much. In fact, hers was a pretty stationary position, one couldn’t properly concentrate on their music while simultaneously running around, after all. And so, the girl couldn’t rely on training classes to keep her in shape, so she ran a few laps around the surrounding area each morning. Even if she didn’t need to move around much in battle, she’d still need to be physically fit in case of an emergency, where she’d have to run.
She quietly made her way through the hall, Mog floating silently beside her. Summer was coming, and so the sun rose much earlier than usual, meaning there would be more students up at this hour.
Deuce had never been fond of crowds, as they usually meant trouble for someone like her. She’d lost count of all the times her peers had mocked her and annoyed her about pretty much everything they could think of in the past. If they didn’t howl weird sounding opera lines after her in order to mock her mother, they’d call her names for having a police officer as a father, who in their eyes, just existed to spoil their fun by sending them to school when they planned on skipping class that day, or whatever…
This school wasn’t as bad as the previous ones, but her past had still left a smudge on her personality that she had difficulty shrugging off at times. The fact that she was the only one in her class who headed for the music room rather than the training gym in order to practice her skills didn’t really help in making her more sociable and laid-back either.
“At least I have you Mog-cakes.” She snorted at herself. Talking to a toy, how much deeper could one sink? At least Mog didn’t mock her for her somewhat strange habits… heh… Mog mocks…
Thankfully, luck was on her side today; the hall was mostly empty, and she made it outside without running into anyone who knew her. Score!
Deuce smiled triumphantly as she walked down the path leading away from the school, shaking her arms and loosening the muscles in her neck a little to prepare for her jog.
Though part of her felt happy that she’d avoided any type of contact for the moment, she had to admit that she was getting a little lonely. Especially when looking back at the small groups of friends slowly but surely gathering around outside as she walked away from the building.
She missed her parents, and her friends at her music class back home… they’d been similar in temperament; calm and respectful. They’d fit each other like gloves. But now that time was over… she’d have to get used to dealing with other types of people while here, people she might not have approached in the past. Her classmates were mostly nice people… maybe she’d have to be more open for contact with them.
“Let’s see…” she began messing with the stopwatch as she thought about how far she wanted to run today. Maybe a mile? Maybe two? Nah, one was plenty for now.
After she set the watch, she began to stretch her legs while listening to the chirping of the birds. Even if she was far away from home, at least this place had a calming atmosphere that she could appreciate.
“Pffft…. Right…” she sighed exasperatedly. She really didn’t feel like running today, but hey! You couldn’t get lazy if you wanted to stay in Class Zero. “3… 2… 1… GO!” just as she took her first step, she felt the ground shift beneath her feet, nearly knocking her off her feet before a loud bang filled her ears.
Shrieking at the sudden noise, she clasped her hands over her ears and bent her knees slightly before finally looking up with wide, panicky eyes.
What was that? Did it come from the school? Did someone mess up a quake spell or something? No… those didn’t sound that loud, did they? Her questions were soon answered as an enormous shadow formed overhead. An airship? What was an airship doing here? And why was it heading towards her school? It didn’t take her long to realize, the school was under attack. The airships were attacking her new home!
Every muscle in her body told her to run. Run away and never look back. The place was likely doomed already anyway, besides, would any of the students risk their neck if she was the one in danger?
Deuce didn’t manage more than three steps before her conscience weighed down on her heavily, causing her to stop.
No… running away was wrong and cowardly. She couldn’t just leave her classmates or even the other students, to fend for themselves… not when she was in a position to help. And though she was skeptical about the students, she’d like to believe at least her classmates would try and help her if she were the one in trouble…
Her father would’ve gone back, he would’ve done whatever he could to help salvage the pieces… even her mother would’ve gone back, and they’d both raised her to face problems rather than running away from them... though so far, she hadn’t really put that into practice much, had she?
She bit her lip harshly before squeezing her eyes tightly and turning on her heel, sprinting off towards the school instead. Damned conscience… though she had to admit, she felt relieved over making the decision to go back and help. Maybe there was hope for her after all.
