The wilderness seemed even more lonely and deserted then it normally did.
Sitting beside a small fire, Leon stared up at the sky. The wee hours of the morning were quiet, aside from the howling of some beast far off into the distance. The sun would rise in the sky soon. The crackle could calm him, but his inner thoughts were creating a heavy turmoil within him. Pulling a knee up and resting his hand there, his second hand was resting on the ground, the handle of his blade resting underneath it. If he needed to, he could quickly come up and be ready for battle. With a pained expression, Leon looked down at his free hand. Holding it straight, he noticed it shaking lightly, and pulled it into a fist. Glaring down at it then, he grumbled and finally rested it against his knee again. What was he doing here? He still had his wound, which had only recently begun to heal. But he couldn’t stay with Maria and Firion. No, not after what had happened. Before, he hadn’t wanted to come back, but after what had happened with Mateus…no, he couldn’t do it. He could have caused Maria’s death. He…he could have been the reason…
He had woken up days later, in bed, stomach wrapped where he had been run through with his own sword. It had begun to heal, but he still needed to watch it. Maria he hadn’t seen after that. Leon had simply found his clothes and things, gotten dressed, and left. How could he face them? They had, of course, taken care of Mateus, but how could he speak to them now? He had needed redemption before this…but now. Now he wasn’t sure if he could ever go back. If he did, then he would always be terrified of what would happen with himself around them, especially Maria. Firion he knew could fight back, but Maria... She was crippled with her sisterly love, and not as strong physically. That could never happen again.
Standing up, Leon sheathed his sword and stared down at the fire. Normally in control of his emotions, Leon felt this rage swirl up within him. How had this happened? Why had it happened? Why him? He had never done anything to deserve this, but here he was. Alone in a wilderness, not knowing if he could ever return to his family. The desire was strong. He wanted to be back with them, but he had to find redemption. He didn’t know if he could ever do that. No…he could never go back. Not like this. How could he ever trust himself? Or they trust him? He would never be able to trust him if he was either Firion or Maria. Especially Firion. Leon was no idiot. He knew that Firion had feelings for his sister. The desire to be there to see that through, to be able to laugh and smile, have his sister and brother back. He…he wanted that badly.
Picking up a piece of wood, Leon stared down into the flame for another moment. Finally he could stand it anymore. With a grunt, he hurled the wood down into the fire, the sparks flying around him, before turning on his heel and walking away, steps making a heavier ring then normal. Unsheathing his sword, Leon stared at it, the reflection of the fire making it glow. “What…can I do? I’ve become a monster.” Speaking that out clearly, Leon finally took in a deep breath, sheathing his sword. Crossing his arms over his chest, he then stared off into the night, wishing for nothing more then to return to his family.
But the time hadn’t come yet. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 817 Muse:; Great! Tagged:; WoL Location:; Wilderness Outfit:; Clickeh!Notes:; None :3 Listening To:; Men at Work - Land down Under

Warrior just had the best luck with portals these days. That was a big fat lie, ask him and he’d tell you the same thing. Maybe it was just bad luck that was lingering around him these days, though it was wrapped up in a bit of good luck from time to time. Finding Cosmos, or rather being led to her via a portal, that was a good thing that had happened, but the hoard of manikins was not good, it left him wounded, sore, and a bit more cautious even in the most seemingly peaceful of times. Anyways, enough whining about bad luck or good luck, at least he’d found his golden beauty, but had to leave her for some time, until the next cycle started against Chaos, he wasn’t sure he could hold off not seeing her until that time came…he just wanted her safe, nothing more. Without any memories or family to fall back on, the Warrior of Light just didn’t find himself belonging much of anywhere, no one to help…and the only place he wanted to be was by Cosmos’ side, protecting her like a true knight in shining armor.
There was a definite change of scenery for Warrior, from daylight to complete darkness with nothing but the moon to guide him along some sort of questionable path to god only knows where. His icy blue eyes gazed at the trail, keeping his hand on the hilt of his sword just in case some creature of the night where to leap out and try to attack him. As his eyes had adjusted to the darkness of this world, he kept his senses alert, listening carefully and looking for any signs of civilization or a structure to take shelter in for the night…it must’ve been fairly late since the moon wasn’t in the middle of the sky, it was nearing the horizon, so morning would be coming soon enough. His attention was grabbed at the smell of smoke, wood somewhere was burning, and as his eyes gazed at the darkened sky, he could see the faint shadow of smoke rising from the wilderness. Either something was on fire, or there was a nearby campsite of some sort. It was probably wise to check it out, just in case there was a real problem, if not…well then hopefully he’d find someone awake and kind enough to at least tell him where he was.
Making a straight line towards the smoke coming from the wilderness, his grip on the hilt of his sword tightened, just in case these were people or creatures were of the unfriendly sort. Moving through the trees and the brush, Warrior gazed forward, seeing the crackling fire ahead, he also saw a figure, one lone figure who slammed a piece of wood into the fire as if he were angry or upset, it made Warrior a bit nervous about approaching, just in case this really was not the person to be talking to. Oh well, he wasn’t going to take any chances wasting this moment. Stepping forward and catching what the seemingly distressed man had said, something about becoming a monster, the Warrior of Light narrowed his eyes. This man…whoever he was, he didn’t seem like a bad guy, but there wasn’t much light to him, he could tell these things after spending so much time with Cosmos and being given some of her own personal light to make him a warrior of hers, whatever this man was distressed about…Warrior could tell it was…something to do with that lack of light within.
“I’ve seen many monsters in my day, you look nothing of the sort. Then again, I’ve met many people you could’ve considered monsters.” Warrior spoke clearly, making his presence obviously known as he stepped out, hopefully not alarming anyone, just giving his two cents in even if it wasn’t necessary. “Sorry for disturbing your camp, I wonder if you might be able to tell me…where exactly am I?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 767 Muse: Great! Standing directly within the circle of light, Leon glared off into the darkness. This was much like himself. There was some light, but it was swallowed with the darkness. Clasping hands together into fists, Leon grit his teeth, angry with himself. Was Maria right? Did he have good left in him? Did he have any light left anymore? Pressing a fist to his temple, the distressed knight felt emotions of the past come up and surround him, threaten to drag him down. A monster. That was what he had become. It hadn’t been a choice. No, he had never wanted to be taken by those dark knight, but it was him they had chosen. He was glad it had been. Thinking of Firion or Maria having to go through the process of becoming a dark knight…it hurt him physically. Finally releasing his forehead from being pressed against, he glanced back at the fire behind him. The light beckoned to him, asking him to come toward it, welcoming. Hesitating a moment, Leon felt this strange thought come to his brain. The fire and the darkness around him had become literal to him in a matter of seconds. Yes, all there was to do now was leave. He had no business being included in the light. He had had plenty of chances to fix the wrong, yet every time he had gotten pulled further and further down until he just couldn’t bear it anymore. The hurt he saw in his sisters face still haunted him. Eyes glanced at the fire once more, and saw it reflected there, her face.
Shuddering, Leon jerked his gaze away from the mournful expression he saw on her face. He couldn’t seem to shake this unworthiness, or the loneliness. He had nowhere to turn anymore. In the back of his head though, he thought of a woman he had met. A woman who knew him for what he was and didn’t judge him. Why was it that now he had the desire to find her? Why did he have the strange desire to see her now? ’Foolish thoughts. Do you wish for her to die as well? Can you drag her into this knowingly?’ Anger came bubbling up with a vengeance then. He hadn’t wanted any of them to become involved. He had wanted nothing of the sort. How could he want any of his family, any of his close friends to have to suffer as he had? That wasn’t what he wanted. A low growl of pain, sorrow, and anger was uttered from his lips then. Whirling then, he turned back to the darkness surrounding the warmer fire. With a set jaw and hard eyes, he started to stride away from the fire and off into the wilderness.
The voice stopped him. Whirling back around, Leon’s sword was in his hand in an instant, fighting to avoid wincing at the pain that shot into his stomach, yet his thinly pressed lips jerked, left hand went up to cover the wrap that covered his wound. The man that entered his swimming vision didn’t seem like a threatening figure. Had this man overheard what he had said? Giving him a weary look, Leon shook his head to clear his vision and held his ground, shoulders straight, jaw set as he looked at the man. “Some wolves reside in sheep’s clothing, as some humans hide underneath a ray of light, when their heart is full of darkness.” Still wearily looking at the man, Leon stood tall, back ramrod straight, wondering what it was that the man needed. Before he could ask however, the man made his inclination known.
Directions? Leon shook his head, a small smile on his features. “If I knew where exactly I was, I wouldn’t be here. My desire was to be in the wilderness, and that I where I came.” Appraising him up and down, Leon tightened his hold on his stomach, feeling the wound start to bleed again. “Are you trying to find Fynn?”

Warrior wasn’t one for eavesdropping, nor was he one for disturbing people out in the middle of nowhere, but considering this was not his world, nor one he knew of well, he figured it would be smart to figure out where he was before he started trotting off in some unknown direction. He needed to get back to Cosmos, wherever she was, they had gotten separated unfortunately, and he was worried to bits and pieces about her of course, as he always was, but the last thing he needed to do was show his worries. She was tough for a goddess, in fact, he was sure no one wanted to face her wrath should that type of power need to be used, but still, he wanted to protect her, he always had, another reason for coming across this campsite and hoping someone would be able to help him. The sooner he found a portal, the sooner he could start his search for the golden beauty known to many as simply the Goddess of Harmony.
Shaking his head though at the man’s words, Warrior stepped forward onto the campsite, a wolf residing in sheep’s clothing, that was clever, but being the Warrior of Light, he was convinced that no one belonged to pure darkness, unless your name was Chaos. “The heart of every man contains darkness, but it also contains light, no matter how little of it exists, it is still there. The rest is up to you.” Warrior said calmly, a confident tone backing up his rather wise words. He himself knew what it was like to have…practically nothing, being simply a shadow or a shell of a man before he came across Cosmos thanks to Prishe, from there, he had gained her light and chose to fight for her, being a warrior of light, a man who fought for the good in life and took out the bad as best as he could, but still, his words were correct. “Wherever there is darkness, there is always a light to guide whatever poor soul has been taken and bring him or her back to the right path.” Such wise words coming from it, almost words to live by, like a guide of some sort. Though he was no preacher of sorts, he still believed his words to be true.
Moving from such wise words to asking about his location, Warrior simply stood his distance, waiting for some sort of helpful answer, but that was not what he had gotten. His icy blue eyes narrowed in on the man where he had a hand pressed against something. He knew that stance, he had been hurt in some sort of physical quarrel, Warrior himself had been in one of those recently, against a nice hoard of manikins, getting himself impaled then saved by Cosmos, it wasn’t something he wanted to repeat. Warrior’s attention was brought back to reality at the name Fynn, it didn’t exactly ring any bells, so he had realized this really was a foreign place to him. Shaking his head and moving a hand to rub the back of his neck, he let his gaze move from the man to the surrounding area. “I have no clue as to what or where Fynn is, to be quite honest and as strange as it may sound, I am not from around here. I come from a place…called Cornelia, at least…I think I do.” His memories still hadn’t come back to him, but that was his home for now, it made better sense than saying Order’s Sanctuary after all.
“You have been wounded, I can tell. I’ve seen many wounds and fatalities in my day, are you sure it is wise to be wandering out here with such a condition?” He spoke, trying not to overstep any boundaries, simply expressing his concerns for the man out here in the wilderness. He should’ve gone to some sort of medical facility, or found someone with a potion or curing spell, that would’ve helped him, rather than reopen a wound time and time again. “Forgive me for overstepping any boundaries, I was just…trying to find a friend of mine.” His tone dropped a bit from there, the worries sneaking back into his mind. “A golden haired woman, a floor length dress of sorts, you haven’t seen her, have you? She is…very important to me.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 832 Muse: Good! Who was this man? Standing there, clutching the wound within his grasp, Leon stared at the man that had made himself known. Something about him was…strange. From the grey hair that came down in long strands, to the armor, Leon didn’t quite know what to make of him, or of his ability to simply come out of nowhere and be able to start talking to him about monsters and darkness and light within a person. What should he make of this man? Who was he? And why was he out here in the wilderness? Leon had come out here intentionally, so as to get away from everyone and simply be by himself. He hadn’t wanted Maria or Firion especially to know where he was. Glancing at him once more, Leon shrugged, lips twitching from the pain that seared through his belly whenever he moved. “If every man has darkness, then they have to learn to control it, or beat it back to allow the light to shine through instead. How would you do that, if someone else is controlling the darkness within you? How do you let the light shine then? Can you answer me that?” Sighing slightly, Leon wanted to forget everything that had happened to him over the past few years. What wrong could come from wanting a few moments of peace?
Back to the light? Leon snorted slightly, raising the hand clasping his stomach up to run through his dark hair. The movement caused a pinching up of his stomach then though, and he returned the hand back to the spot it had been there on his wound. Leon’s wrapping had been saturated with blood from the journey here, so he had wrapped it in the cloth he had taken to get him by. The problem was that it was looser and a little choppy instead of smooth, his outer clothes over top to hide the evidence of the injury. “Sometimes I doubt that the light will ever overtake and defeat the darkness within mankind,” he said simply, fingers still clutching his body. Doubt registered over his features as he felt the same tugging desire to wish that the Emperor had simply ended his life back there in that tower. With no future, no ability to be sure he could control the Emperor invading his thoughts, and the unworthiness to face his family, what did he have? “And what is the right path supposed to be?”, he asked in a wretched voice.
What the man said left him a bit surprised. Raising an eyebrow in disbelief, he glanced off into the darkness and then back to the man. Shuffling slightly, Leon felt the chill in the air and decided that if he was going to stay here, he would rather be by the fire. Gritting his teeth while trying to walk without any hint of his injury, Leon kept his shoulders back and midnight blue eyes hard. He didn’t know what to say to the man that said he was from nowhere near here. Despite not being an expert on locations, Leon had been many places, and thought that he would have known where this Cornelia was had it existed. “I hate to burst your bubble, but I’ve never heart a Cornelia on this planet.” Stopping near the fire, Leon held his hand up slightly, studying the blood that resided on his fingers now, before placing it flat against his stomach once more. “Have you been, perchance, drinking too much?” It seemed highly unlikely, but Leon thought he had to try, otherwise he wouldn’t know what to do to help this guy out.
His head snapped up when the man mentioned that he had been wounded. He wanted to deny it instantly, but he couldn’t, after all, since he was wounded. “Yes,” he answered truthfully, shrugging slightly and wincing once more. “Just another scar that will haunt me of the past which I tried to escape from.” Leon didn’t have time to dwell on it much though, because the man asked about a blonde woman. Pondering, Leon finally shook his head. “I haven't seen her, no.” He was about to leave it at that, but something made him hesitate. “I…could help you find her if needed,” he offered, wondering why he did as soon as the words left his mouth. It was none of his concern, but just the thought of Maria out there, alone, and him looking for her made his stomach tighten painfully.

Leon had brought up a good question. Now, Warrior wasn’t exactly a philosopher or anything, he didn’t have all the answers, then again, not even a god or goddess would have all the answers. With a small puzzled look on his face, he turned his eyes downward, pressing a hand to his chin as he became rather thoughtful, taking the other man’s question into consideration. “I suppose it takes a lot of strength and a lot of mind power to keep someone out of your head. I’m afraid I don’t have an answer for you.” He said with a small shrug, feeling a bit bad that he couldn’t offer more of an answer, but again, he didn’t have all the answers. With a small sigh, he wasn’t sure where to go with his words next, obviously this man had some troubles in the past, and perhaps hadn’t been the greatest of all people, but Warrior saw light in him – figuratively of course – and didn’t believe him to simply be a wolf in sheep’s skin. Of that he was absolutely positive.
“That is the problem with people. They give up hope and let everything fall to pieces. If one doesn’t fight for the light, then it will never prevail. As for the right path, that is up to you, you’ll know whenever you come across it.” Warrior assured him with a nod and a somewhat encouraging expression as he then folded his arms across his chest. Taking in the scenery and the condition this man was in, Warrior raised an eyebrow slightly, but didn’t make a deal out of things. His encouraging light talks wouldn’t do everything, if this man wanted to find the light and the right path, it would take countless efforts to achieve something so amazing. Letting a few moments of silence pass, Warrior began to think of his next words, if he made any at all. He wanted to find Cosmos since they’d been separated, he hoped she was somewhere on this world, but something told him she wasn’t, on the inside he was quite concerned, but on the outside he still held the composure and grace of a knight. Showing worry would only make things worse, if this guy could at least point Warrior in the right direction…then things would go well, and he could leave this man to whatever it was he was doing out here.
No Cornelia? Figures. This wasn’t even his own world, nor one he’d been on before. It didn’t look like Spira, or Pulse…so he guessed that yet again it was someplace new. Shaking his head with an exasperated sigh, his eyes then cut to Leon, a small smirk crossing his lips. “No, no. No drinking, I assure you. Let’s just say…I’m not from around here, as you can tell. And when I say not from around here, I mean a completely different world altogether, as hard as that may be to believe.” And after those words, Warrior’s eyes cut to where the wound obviously was, a small frown now tugging at his lips rather than the smirk. He never liked to see anyone injured, but there were some subjects you just needed to tip toe around. “Perhaps it would be wise to seek a healer, you wouldn’t want the wounds to get worse than they already are, but then again, I’m no doctor.” Warrior shrugged before letting his mind get back to the real task at hand. Cosmos, he needed to find her, and soon, before something bad happened…he needed to stop worrying. She was a goddess after all, she could easily take care of herself, but that never stopped him from worrying.
When Leon responded that he hadn’t seen Cosmos, Warrior frowned and cut his eyes to the ground again. His expression obviously disappointed, but what else had he been expecting? A miracle perhaps. His eyes and attention rose at the sound of an offer, to help him find Cosmos. The more eyes the easier it would be to find her if she were here. Thinking about it for a minute, Warrior took a moment to glance at the dark scenery, imagining Cosmos in this place by herself, it was an uneasy feeling, taking the help was probably the best thing he could do right now. “If you’re sure. I would appreciate the help.” He said in a very thankful tone before giving the man a nod, an appreciative look to match his tone. “Though my name is long forgotten, most just call me ‘Warrior’ or the ‘Warrior of Light’, and what might one call you?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 891 Muse: Good! No answer.
It seemed no one had an answer. Wretchedly standing still, his gaze got a somewhat far away expression. Pain made him feel alive, made him remember who he was. The pain he was feeling from his current wound was almost a blessing to him. He could still feel the pain, and thus he knew he had to be in control of his own self. Those moments were few and far between. There were times he couldn’t distinguish which were which. A fact that scared him more then he would ever admit. He hated not being in control of his own body. Or rather, hated it after it happened. How could he ever face his family again? How…how could he do that? What could he do to fix it though? Like this man, no one had the answers. Would anyone ever have the answers that he so desperately wanted? Doubtful.
Still, his words made him think, which was what he needed to do. He needed to think and then act on what he thought. He needed to come up with some way on getting past this. Yes…he just needed to do something. Leon couldn’t wallow here in self pity. This man, whoever he really was, had been dropped into his lap –so to speak of course- and he was intelligent enough to realize that he needed to take advantage. Light radiated from him, like the campfire, beckoning and drawing people in. With a desperation, Leon felt drawn as well. This man, he was sure, could help him find the light. The wisdom he showed, what he said, calmed him down and made him think that perhaps there really was some way for him to get past this and find the light within him again. Was…there any left? He didn’t know, but he wanted to find out. He shouldn’t be in this wilderness, isolated from those he cared about. Damn it!
Yet his attention was then focused on the man when he told him he was from a differe-…different world? Blinking, Leon simply held his injury and didn’t say much, but he nodded, glancing at the man to see if he was indeed telling him the truth. So far, it would seem as if he was. That didn’t make any sense, but what did? Certainly not the lord of the underworld coming back to life and controlling him. This was minute compared to simply from another world. There was bound to be other places to live out there. And so without a second thought, he accepted it as truth. “Alright, no wonder you didn’t know what Fynn was.” At the mention of a healer Leon stiffened somewhat. “My sister, Maria, she healed me, but I’m afraid the stress has reopened the wounds. It should heal in time though.”, he stated a bit stubbornly. Did he want doctors poking and proding him and asking him what had happened? No.
Warrior of Light? What better person to help him?
Extending his free hand out to shake, Leon looked him in the eye. “My name is Leonhart, most call me leon.” After shaking, Leon pulled his hand back, resting it on the handle of his sword, resting in its sheath. “Warrior, I’ll make you a deal.”, he started out, face deadly serious. “You desire to find this woman. I’ll help you do it, as I know the locations around here. But in return…I need your assistance. The light radiates from you, and I’m in need of some of that. The darkness has overtaken me, but I want to be free. I want to find my redemption, which I’m sure you’re capable of helping me with.” Laying it all out on the table, he watched him with steady eyes, waiting to see what he would say. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 845 Muse:; Great! Already the Warrior of Light could tell that this man was having troubles with something. All this talk about the right path, people in your head controlling you…it wasn’t something that sounded all that pleasant. Warrior of course tried to throw in a bit of optimism, though he didn’t have all the answers, he fought for the light, that was his solution to just about everything. With the light, you could do no wrong, that was his philosophy on it all, and that made serving Cosmos as a warrior even better than one might think. Shaking his head, he was slightly disappointed that he didn’t have an answer for this young man, but sometimes you needed to figure it out yourself, being handed all the answers on a silver platter meant you didn’t work for them. Whatever this dark haired soldier of sorts was dealing with, Warrior truly hoped that the light prevailed in his favor.
Explaining himself slightly was almost laughable. Someone believing he was from a different world, it had never been so easy before. Of course, this portal issue seemed to be on every world he’d traveled to thus far, perhaps it was more common than what Warrior was believing these days. Oh well, it just meant more problems would arise soon. Warrior simply shook his head, happy that this man accepted what he said as the truth, yet he also kept his mouth shut about the wounds. Though seeking a healer would be the best thing to do, it wasn’t really any of his business anymore. He’d gotten his two cents in, and that was it. No need to keep talking when the advice wouldn’t be followed anyways. Still, maybe sometime down the road this man would actually seek assistance rather than suffer every time the wound reopened and caused him pain. It seemed like common sense though, if you’re injured, you go see someone who can fix it up. Who just went around suffering? It was a painful thing not only to feel, but to witness.
Introductions, one of the better topics of conversation so far. Warrior extended an arm to Leon’s and shook his hand firmly, “Nice to meet you, Leon,” he commented before Leon’s words caught him a bit. A deal? This could prove to be a good deal. Remaining silent while the dark knight spoke, Warrior nodded his head slightly, it sounded like quite the challenge. He wasn’t usually the one providing light for people, but if anything he’d learned over his time with Cosmos and her warriors, is that people can change, for the better or for the worst, and the determination this man seemed to have for changing his ways, for escaping the darkness, Warrior could appreciate it, and he’d do his best to assist, to try and lead Leon on the right path. “Alright, you’ve got a deal. I’ll do my best to help you, and…we can search for my friend, Cosmos, in the process.” He said with a confirming nod, a grateful and thankful look on his face as he folded his arms across his chest, taking a look around the area. It was still dark, searching right now would be pointless, but standing around would waste time.
What to do…
Well, what could one do at a time like this? Perhaps it’d be better to help Leon out if he knew what exactly it was he was going to be dealing with. “Well, it’d be pointless to start a search while there isn’t much light. Perhaps this is a good time to…fill one another in. What exactly is it that happened to you, Leon? What sort of darkness is it you are facing?” The Warrior of Light asked as he turned to face back towards his newfound ally, whatever he could get information wise would be appreciated. After all, Warrior was going to be the one help him through the darkness and make it back to the light, knowing the details was pretty important. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 770 Muse: Good! Nodding, Leon made no effort to say the ‘nice to meet you too’ back at the man. Though a gentleman of sorts, he had long since become accustomed to not having to stand by the normalcies of the social world. To say he was rusty was truth, but he still had what his parents had tried so hard to instill lurking beneath the forward outer shell. This was warrior to warrior, he didn’t feel the need to stand and talk like women over tea. Standing with legs spread wide, the young man pressed his hands against his stomach and waited to see what the slightly taller man would say to the deal he had just proposed. He meant what he said. A man of his word, – at least when he was under no outside influence – Leon would definitely try to help Warrior find this woman he was looking for. Obviously whoever she was, she must mean a lot to him. Here he was, making a deal with a man that was shrouded in darkness –and Leon knew the man must know that- to get her back. Was it desperation or did he really want to help her? The dark knight couldn’t lie when he mentioned that he had double motives in offering his help. He was desperate to get his light back, to dig himself out of the darkness that he had been rutted into.
But would he have helped anyway?
The thought bothered him. This was the first step in the right direction. He had tried pulling himself out for the time after that last battle, but he had lapsed, the Emperor having come back and been able to hold the same power over him. Yet he had broken free. That didn’t mean the danger was over. He needed to completely break the cycle. If the Emperor came back again…Leon didn’t know what would happen, but he didn’t want to ever go back to that life again. He hated the feeling of being controlled. Here it would end. Leon swore that never again would be get controlled. He had to save what was left of himself. He might not ever be the man he had been before, but he would be the best that he could be. He would be a brother to Maria and Firion again. And if possible, find that pirate woman. There was something about her… But had he done this only for himself? He wasn’t sure why the thought bothered him so badly. It was human to do things for others. He wanted to do things because he had a desire, not just to get something he wanted.
One step at a time.
At his agreement, Leon nodded as well, relieved that he had accepted his proposition. There was one thing that might go better now. This man, whoever he really was, had the ability to help, he could sense it. It drew him, and so he wanted to get that same light. He wanted to be the man he had once been, not this hollowed out shell, living only to find redemption. Tortured. That was what he was now. But he could change. This man could help him. And this man would help him. A sense of freedom, like he had gotten when he had stepped up on Leila’s ship, came over him. The feeling was almost overwhelming. He would get out of this yet. Forcing his hands to drop, Leon straightened shoulders and lifted his chin, the picture of poise and calm confidence, looking more like the man he had once been. Rich, deep voice spoke out then. “This Cosmos, we’ll find her. If she’s here, then she will be found.”
When he spoke Leon nodded slowly, glancing out at the darkness that was settling in around them. “We’ll stay here for the night. Tomorrow we can venture to Fynn, there we should be able to find information.” At the mention of filling each other in, he stood still, finally agreeing to it. If he was going to get over this, then this man needed to know everything. Feeling a bit weakened, Leon turned and sat back down where he had been before, in front of the fire but not looking directly into the light. When you did that, you became virtually blind to the dark around you. That could mean the difference between life and death. Settling down, Leon pressed his hand against his stomach again, wondering where to begin. “When my sister and I were young, our parents were killed, leaving us and our adopted brother to survive. We did just that, survived, any way it was possible. One day, we were fleeing the city from an invasion, but the dark knights of the Emperor finally caught up to us. We fought as best we could, but eventually we all were unconscious. I learned later that the rest escaped, but I was taken. I don’t know why. Perhaps the dark knights sensed that I was the one out of us four that held the doubts, the potential to be one just like them.”

It was a risky choice to make, to make a deal with someone who had been engulfed by the darkness, but…there still was something rather heroic about this man. Warrior couldn’t quite place his finger on what it was about Leon that made him actually radiate with some light. It was good, yes, but unfamiliar to him. He was no god of harmony, but seeing as he had a bit of Cosmos’ light, maybe that gave him a better understanding of people when it came to the side they chose, whether it be light, dark, or neutral. This man, Leon, he wanted help…and as stated before, Warrior was no god, he was simply a knight in shining armor for one Cosmos, he was no miracle worker, but he knew the light, he knew what it was for and why one was to fight for it, even if it was just knowledge he needed to pass on, words of encouragement, then so be it. He’d made a deal, and to ensure that they’d go looking for Cosmos…he needed to push his mind into high gear, anything to help Leon and Cosmos at the same time.
“I do appreciate you lending me a hand.” Warrior spoke calmly, not even anxious whatsoever. That was a nice thing about him, being able to keep a level head during most situations. Not that this was exactly dangerous or something he should be nervous about, it was just…something that of course could arise a bit of an uneasy feeling. Still, he was confident enough in this dark knight, he was confident that roles could be changed, Leon deserved to fight for the light, there was no doubt about it. Perhaps in his past he’d simply been at the wrong place at the wrong time and gotten sucked into all of this mess? Well, it would be best to ask here soon enough, after all, how was the Warrior of Light supposed to help him if he had no idea what it was he was going up against? Questions could be asked after a brief plan was made, there would be no traveling tonight, unless that it was Leon preferred, it was silly to venture in the darkness though, there was no telling who or what could be out there, the Warrior of Light was a prime example of this.
Tomorrow they’d venture to Fynn, alright, Warrior still didn’t know of this Fynn place, but something told him that there was something familiar here, something he knew, but he just couldn’t figure out what it was. It was starting to bother the warrior, but he wasn’t going to dwell on such feelings, it was best to let things come naturally than force yourself to remember – he knew that feeling all too well, being without memories of his own past – oh well. Moving over towards the fire that Leon had created even before Warrior got here, he took his sword and unclipped it from his side, still holding onto it though as he rested his shield on the ground at the base of a tree stump. Sitting down, leaning his sword next to him, his eyes were drawn to the top flames of the fire, where they crackled and sparked against one another. He listened to what Leon was saying though, taking it all in and imagining it. One word really caught his attention though. Emperor. His mind was drawn back to the Dissidia cycles, there had been a warrior of Chaos, Emperor Mateus…they couldn’t be the same person could they?
That feeling of familiarity was settling in once more.
Nodding slightly and letting his gaze flicker from the fire to Leon, Warrior tried to digest this story. It sounded as legit as they come, and the ending result seemed awfully accurate. Having doubts could turn a man, of course, anyone had the potential to do just about anything. Warrior brought a hand up to his chin, and then he slid his helmet off, sliding a hand through his silvery white hair to loosen it up. “Anyone has the ability to do just about anything. It’s your mindset at the time I guess, for me, my loyalty remains to the light, my comrades fight for the light, I see nothing but pros for it, a few cons always straggle to them as well, but the more you think about something, the more you want to do something, the better chance you have at actually doing it.” He said with a confirming nod before going in to ask another question. “Why is it you really want to fight for the light? To rid yourself of this dark knight title?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 870 Muse: Great! Inclining his head toward the Warrior by him, Leon sat down heavily and kept his eyes above the fire, scanning the area of darkness around them. Never stare directly into a fire. The chances of becoming blind for a short amount of time were high. The danger of that was death, something that Leon had danced with plenty of times. Experience taught you what stories could not. You could be told a million times what to do in a certain situation, but it wasn’t until you had actually dealt with the situation that you knew what to do. How…had he become like this? How had he gotten to this point? True, he had always been an observant child, a more serious child. Still, he hadn’t been like this. Was it paranoia that made him do things? Things like be unable to look directly into the flame of an open fire for fear that he would be blind and unable to defend himself. Experience or paranoia. Whatever it was, Leon wished there could be a world free of anyone having to live like this. Being aware was good, but needing to be aware in the face of death another. He wished Maria wouldn’t have to deal with this same thing.
Waving off his thanks, Leon didn’t speak again, but wished the man would stop thanking him. One should not need to be thanked for such a thing. Wasn’t this simply human kindness that caused one to do something for another? He had been taught morals by his parents on this subject, but such had become obscure in past years. There, floating around in the back of his head, trying to sway decisions, but control over ones mind was a tough thing to combat. Had he finally won? This last time, with Maetus, Leon had been able to break free of the control by himself, but it had only been when Maria had been in danger that he had finally snapped out of it. He couldn’t trust himself. Couldn’t trust himself around Maria, and that was why he had left. Why he couldn’t go back until he figured this out. The emperor was gone, yes, but for how long? He hadn’t stayed dead the last time they had defeated him, so what was there to say that he would stay dead this time?
Finally telling Warrior a little bit about himself, Leon remained motionless, eyes staring over the fire and off into the darkness. His words made sense, and the wisdom of the other man showed. A mindset. That he could understand. After all, when his mindset had been concern over the life of his sister, then he had managed to break out of the mind control and been able to be his own person, instead of a puppet that was carried along by the hands of the Emperor. So how did he have that mindset? It wasn’t like he could just think positive thoughts and rid himself of the Emperors strong power. No, it had to be something else too, right?
“A mindset. You’re suggesting that I can combat the darkness simply by filling my mind with light?” His voice was a bit weary, unconvinced. It almost seemed too good to be true. Still…it must work for this man. Shaking his head at the question of simply wanting to remove the title as dark knight, Leon struggled to put his thoughts into words. “No…a title is a title, it doesn’t make a man. A knight or a dark knight, it matters not what your title is. You can still be a dark knight and not let the darkness effect you. But I…have gone too far for that. To walk the path between darkness and light, to let your power come from the darkness but your thoughts be in the light, is difficult. I…want to be able to look my sister in the eyes and know that I might not possibly be a threat to her. I cannot trust myself around her, and that is where I need help with this.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 883 Muse:; Good! This wasn’t going to be easy. Though Warrior was no life philosopher, he could easily offer a few words of encouragement. All and all, he knew what it was like to not follow the light. Before meeting Cosmos, he’d been simply a shell of a man, or better yet, the perfect manikin, and with the light from Cosmos, he’d seen the right path to take, the things to fight for became easier to see, though his memories were gone, he didn’t mind that so much. So long as he had a purpose in the world, and a good one at that – who wouldn’t want to spend your life with that one person you loved and got to protect on a daily basis? – then everything would be just fine. Still, Warrior was running short on words of optimism for this Leon, something would come up soon enough, but making up random words of wisdom wasn’t going to help anyone. The only things Warrior could preach were his own ideas, his theories. He didn’t know how to rid of one’s inner darkness, but he sure as hell would try and help.
“You need to do what you can to separate yourself from the darkness. Whether that be a new mindset or not, the further away you are from those shadows, the less likely it can grab your and bring you back to the other side of things.” Warrior offered as his pretty much last bit of advice. Still, having listened to Leon’s words about his sister and not harming her, Warrior wasn’t sure he could relate to that feeling. As far as he knew, he had no family, and if he did, he sure didn’t know about them or remember anything regarding relatives. Feeling a small frown tug at his lips, he struck his sword into the ground, giving it a nice tap with his fist to make sure it would stay and not fall over before he sighed. “You have family? You’re lucky.” He commented out, feeling like the depressed one, though his tone and facial expressions only changed slightly, it was still noticeable that family was something he didn’t have, at least to his knowledge he didn’t have it, and he envied anyone who had those types of ties to people, the really had something worth fighting for.
Shaking his head slightly, Warrior relaxed himself, letting one more idea come to his head as he then took a glance over at Leon. “When we find Cosmos…I’m absolutely positive she can help you. If there’s anyone who can show you the way to the light, it’s her.” He said with an assuring nod, letting his mind drift away to thoughts of Cosmos, he’d gotten separated from her right after they both had sort of confessed a liking for one another, no…not a liking, a love for one another. Though it wasn’t one of those cliché romantic moments in the moonlight or anything, it still made for a mighty find moment, only to be torn apart from one another via a portal leading to two different places. Right now, Warrior would take Kilika with Cosmos over anything right now. He hoped she was safe, knowing she could very well take care of herself and if she was lucky, someone would’ve come by her and offered help…but still, there was that lingering worry in the back of his mind. Leon wasn’t so sure about the advice that this man was giving to him. Eying the man, he tried to assure himself that it would indeed fix him. His advice was different from anything else that he had come up with though, so why not try it? What did he have to lose if it didn’t work out? He was already struggling with the darkness, so he couldn’t go any more backwards then he already was. That gave him a little bit of determination to try what this man said. After all, he really didn’t have anything else to try. No, all he could do was…apparently try to fill his mind with positive, light thoughts instead of the darkness that was controlling him at the moment. Leon hoped that it helped. He had been like this for so long he didn’t know if he could break free, but this man gave him the resolve that he actually might be able to do just that. It would be work, of course, but he could do it. He had to believe he could. After all, Maria and Firion believed in him. How could they and not himself?
Sighing lightly, Leon simply nodded his head. “A mindset… I can attempt what you say to Warrior. I’ve run out of other possible ideas to carry me through this. If this does help, I would be grateful to you for your assistance.” Even if he was somewhat doubtful about what it was that he was supposed to be filling his mind with, he would give it a try. Instantly a picture of his family came to mind. For one moment he was relieved and simply sat and thought about them in ease, until reality crashed down and he remembered their death. That brought the darkness coming back quickly, an anger that he had never fully gotten over in regards to them. And then he felt ashamed again. This whole light thoughts was strange. He wasn’t sure what he should be doing. But in time, he was sure it would come. All he could do was make sure that he simply thought about the good things that had come in his lifetime. There had been plenty, but sometimes they got squished down by the other thoughts that he had. Thoughts of the times he had been controlled, his anger over his parents death, and the injustice of the world. It all weighed heavily on his shoulders.
But no longer could he think of them.
In surprise he glanced up at the man as he stabbed his sword into the ground and commented on his luck for having a family. Looking at him with sharp eyes, Leon learned a lot from that one comment. Obviously this man had no family. Since you had to be born from someone, he determined that something must have happened to the family of this man. Death probably. How did this man find so much light in his life if his family was dead? Peering from the man to the fire that flickered from the campfire, Leon held his stomach lightly and stared, for the first time, forgetting the possibility of attack from some source. “Yeah…lucky,” he said quietly, seeing the faces of his parents flickering there, and then envisioning his sister and adopted brother. “My sister is all I have left in that regard really.” But they would get this Cosmos back. Shifting lightly and gritting his teeth lightly, Leon lay down and shifted until his shoulder was under his head, acting as a pillow of sorts. “We’ll find this goddess of yours,” he mentioned calmly. “People like to talk, especially if some beautiful woman goes by. She should be easy to find if she’s here.” That was a big if…but…well, they would have to see how things went. Hopefully they went well. For this man’s sake. “Tomorrow we head out,” he resolved, before turning his back to the fire and staring out into the darkness. Yet even there, the light flickered and danced. It was an odd thought…light even within the darkness.
It was the last one before his eyes closed.
~~~~~~~~~~~
And opened. Blinking, Leon felt his internal clock beeping to get him to wake up. Sighing lightly, he shifted and got to his knees, looking around them. He had always been a light sleeper, but even more so now. Shrugging into his armor that he had peeled off the night before, he grunted only lightly when it shifted over his wound, before shouldering that pain and getting to his knees. After a night of rest, even if it included lying on the hard ground, had helped to revive his spirit. Glancing over at his companion, Leon debated on waking him up or not. After all, the sun had barely begun to peek over the horizon, the land still mostly in darkness. Was he up for this? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 1023 Muse:; Great! Yes, Leon was very lucky to have at least someone to call family, whether their ties and bonds were good or not, it was still something to be thankful for, something Warrior himself had longed for. There was no need to dwell on his wants for the world, he needed to assist this man in finding the light somehow, and finding Cosmos among this world of…nothing he knew. With a small nod at the man’s words, Warrior had his sword struck into the ground, just in arms reach as he lowered himself to the ground, his body not exactly ready for sleep, but it was best to try and get a bit of rest before traveling the next day towards this city of Fynn where hopefully his golden beauty waited for him…should she even be here. He prayed she was here…otherwise he wasn’t going to rest until he found her. He’d travel through every and any portal until he found her…
…no exaggeration.
“Until tomorrow.” He gave his last words before easing his back against the ground, folding his arms behind his head as he stared up at the sky. It almost reminded him of the Empyreal Paradox, it almost looked like a night sky there, he enjoyed his time staring at the sky in that world within the realm of Dissidia, but it was nothing like the real stars at night, the very ones he was staring at. Even with the light of the fire crackling only a short distance away, he could greatly appreciate this kind of darkness, it was peaceful and carefully put his mind at ease, though he was still worrying about Cosmos and her well being, at least he could remind himself that she was able to take care of herself and that she was safe. Hopefully she was under the same dark star filled sky that he was, if that was the case…then all would be well by tomorrow, and if not…at least he’d get enough rest before his nonstop search went for the Goddess of Harmony. He probably wasn’t prepared to hear such news as to her not being here, whatever this world was actually called, but all he could do was hope and pray that she was near and safe.
With that constant thought in mind, Warrior sighed and closed his eyes, forcing himself to rest, and even though the actual sleep wouldn’t come for awhile…he found himself very relaxed for once.
----------- Next Morning -----------
After a long while the night before, Warrior had finally felt himself drift to sleep. His dreams were filled with happy things, Cosmos and a life of his own…no longer fighting, and memories he could hold onto forever. That right there was a real dream, but at this rate, that was all it would ever be. The sooner he found Cosmos the better, but with such a wonderful dream floating around his head, he just didn’t want to wake up. It wasn’t until he heard a bit of shifting, that he was knocked from his dreams, dragged back to reality. With a slight furrow of his brows, his folded arms tightened before he let his icy blue eyes flicker open, seeing a bright sun just peeking over the horizon. It was morning time, and that meant it was time to wake up and get going. Moving a hand up to rub at his head as he sat up a bit, he felt his muscles unwind a bit as he finally moved up to his feet, feeling well rested – though it wasn’t the most comfortable sleep ever – but he was ready to go, and by the looks of it, Leon was getting there.
Looking over at his newfound ally, Warrior stretched his arms slightly. “Did you want to get going right away? Unless there’s something else here that needs to be tended to first, it does not matter.” He admitted, after all, Leon was the one helping him, just as he was helping this guy find the light. He still had yet to think of a good way to do this, but he was going to do his best at getting him to see the right side of things, rather than letting the darkness take control of him. There was light within Leon’s heart, and Warrior could plainly see that, but the darkness that lay within every heart of mankind…it was just too strong it seemed. Leon needed a way to battle that and win every time. That was going to be one of the major things on Warrior’s mind this entire day. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 863 Muse: Good! Grunting slightly, Leon blinked and reached a hand up to rub at his eyes. While doing so, he winced at the pain in his side. Today it did seem to feel better then it had the night before. Maria had healed him slightly, but he had simply torn the skin in his desire to leave so quickly. Though it had been a sharper pain the day before, it had gone down to a dull ache, one that he could be noticed and cause discomfort, but wouldn't cripple his abilities. Because of that, Leon was still able to move around, ignoring the pain as he did so. He'd had worse wounds in his day, so he couldn't really complain about this one. Taking in a deep breath, Leon propped himself up on his hands and knees before gaining his feet under him, still crouched down, a hand on the ground. Glancing over at his companion, Leon was impressed to see that he was rolling to his feet as well. A man used to the battlefield, that much was obvious.
Kneeling on one knee, Leon looked up to see the sun touching the horizon, midnight blue eyes showing nothing. Yet the light chased off the darkness that settled into the night. Each had their own strengths and weaknesses. While there, Leon pondered that thought as well as the words that the man had spoken. He needed to find a way to chase away the darkness, just as the sun did. ...Or did he? Light was perfectly matched with dark. Sun and moon. Daylight and night time. What if he could manage the darkness? Temper and control it? It was a thought he hadn't paid attention to before. The darkness was so much a part of him that he couldn't seem to rid himself completely. But perhaps he didn't have to. He would have to think about it some more.
Blowing out a breath, Leon gained his feet completely, straightening up to stand. The warriors words drew his attention. "We can leave swiftly, but first I need to clean my wound," he commented quietly. Turning around, Leon took hold of his sword and started toward the stream he had stopped by, a large creek was probably a better description. When he got there, Leon peeled off his shirt, looking down at his wound. Blood crusted around the original wound, and so he stripped down to his boxers and waded in. Instantly the cold water hit him, but he didn’t react, instead using his shirt to mop at the wound, rinsing the shirt free from all traces of blood as he did so. He rubbed his skin raw slightly, but he was happy to see that it wasn’t bleeding again. Scrubbing his shirt to rid it of all stains, Leon finally took a deep breath and submersed himself in water fully. Instantly he popped back up. “Shit,” he muttered out at the cold, before wringing out his shirt and wading back to shore. Shivering slightly, Leon pulled on his pants and slid the shirt over his head. When it had settled on his frame, he shifted it around and poked a hand through the hole that was on his side. He was going to have to get himself a new shirt.
But not today. Sticking his boots back on, Leon walked back to ‘camp’, pausing and taking up his armor to settle over his chest. Damn, but that wet shirt was cold. Shaking his head to rid himself of the water, he settled his sword into his sheath and prepared himself. “Are you ready?”, he asked calmly, ignoring the chill and the burning of his side. This was all things he had gone through plenty of times roughing it out in the wilderness. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 825 Muse:; Good!
