War was never something anyone with a good heart wanted. King gazed upon the chaos erupting within the outer rims of the academy and it sent a shiver down his spine. He didn't want anyone to perish in the war, not even the Milites on the other side. They all had families, lives of their own, but sometimes remaining extremely loyal to your nation - or in the Milite's case, a dictatorship - then bad things were bound to happen. King knew that, he was loyal to Rubrum, a part of Class Zero, he was a tool for war, as was any other part of his family. It was a depressing thought, but no matter how stark it was...it was true. King let a sigh escape his lips as he rubbed one hand through his hair and let his hand rub against his neck. Killing others for your nation...it was still sickening.
It made him and anyone else willing to slay another soul a monster.
At least this kind of monster was much better than the monster he could be. A chilling thought went through the mind of the gunner. If he did complete his focus, if he and Nine really wanted to survive that much and gain the 'gift' of eternal life...they'd have to kill the entire group of Class Zero. That was not going to happen, he could never live with himself, even trapped within a crystal, the guilt would still haunt him, and for all eternity? He wouldn't be able to cope with that. If anything, he'd rather be a mindless Cie'th, and he knew the blonde dragoon felt the same way. Shaking his head and feeling those thoughts continue to haunt him, he summoned his dual guns as he started into battle. Walking with a stride of a man on a mission. His serious expression couldn't be flawed, no one would be able to read his face, that was another good thing to maintain during war.
Lifting both guns and bending his knees as he stood in place, King aimed towards a few charging soldiers and let loose on them, becoming trigger happy and watching them fall instantly. He was an excellent marksman, this was no exception, even with the amount of pressure he was under. Rolling and moving to his feet again, he aimed and fired again, shaking his hand down as the empty rounds fell from his guns and quickly he reloaded them, ready to continue onwards with his fight for Rubrum. Turning and seeing some Milite troops coming at him from his side, he smirked a bit, pulling a magazine from a clip on his belt, he had one gun summoned at this time before tossing it towards the rather large cluster of soldiers, closing one hazel eye, he shot a single bullet, hitting the explosive and letting it finish the job of these soldiers.
Glancing around, King's eyes searched for more of his fellow class zero students. He wanted them to remain safe, especially Queen, but still...his heart sank at the thought of people like Deuce and Cinque out here fighting against these ruthless soldiers. He needed to move, and with a quick run, he did so. Moving around the grounds of the gates of the academy, he kept his eyes moving, looking for soldiers and looking for his friends. If he could aid them, then all would be well. People always worked better as a team. It was then he spotted a brunette, plaid skirt and red cape. A fellow classmate. Watching as the dagger wielder started to become distressed under the pressure of so many soldiers around her, King rose his guns again, aiming for everyone aside from Rem. "Duck!" He called, and as the girl heard and did as he said, King let loose a flurry of bullets while Rem stabbed at the ankles of the soldiers. "Thanks, King! Glad to see someone around here. Keep moving, there are more out there that need help!"
King took Rem's word and continued to move on now that she was doing fine. The next friend he spotted, he'd try and stick by. No sense in getting shot in the back for not having someone look out for you, and vice versa. [/blockquote] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 799 Muse: Good! Tagged: Queen! Group B. Machina, Rem and Deuce. Queen had to make it to them, as that was the group she had been assigned. Communications were down though, and she hadn’t seen anyone really. A bewildered Carla, who had apparently been taken down by a teleporting woman, but that was the last person she had seen that she knew mildly well. And Seven, she had seen Seven for a brief moment, so she was alive, or had been anyway, the last time she saw her. Together. Separate they were a force to be reckoned with, but together was the only way they would have any chance of winning this. She needed to find anyone at this point. She didn’t know how her family was fairing, and that bit at her mind. King? Deuce? Cinque? The rest? Her stomach dropped at the thought of them being gone. No! They were still alive. She would know if they weren’t. She knew that wasn’t logical thinking, but somehow she knew it was true. Having ducked behind a building wall, Queen panted and adjusted her glasses before peeking around the corner. The enemy forces were pushing forward, always advancing…always…advancing. With a sigh of frustration she finally moved, darting away from the wall and taking off toward a group of soldiers that had their backs toward her.
Queen felt no guilt about not fighting ‘fair’. These men weren’t fighting fair when they had come into her home, to attack the students, kill her friends, and try to harm her fellow classmates. Without a sound she was upon them, running flat out. Without pausing her sword materialized into her hand. A hand rested on a mans shoulder and as he turned in surprise, she cut off his cry by her sword running through his belly. The surprised look he gave her was one she ignored before flipping over him, drawing her sword out and landing lightly on her feet, bringing her foot up and shoving him roughly to the ground. He was gone before he hit the pavement beneath him. And then she was upon the second one. He managed to see her out of the corner of his eye and jerked his gun up in an attempt to save himself. Her sword sliced it in half, the wooden stock coming apart, leaving him just the metal part. In desperation he brought that up to parry attacks. Now the rest of the squad knew she was there. Guns from every hand leveled onto her, before she flipped over the man, sword disappearing into thin air. Grabbing both ends of the metal gun, she held it against his neck and forced his body against hers, using him as a human body shield to take all the bullets meant for her. She was no longer calm class president, but a deadly war machine, tempered to do nothing but survive and destroy to do so.
Feeling the body jerk, Queen finally let him go and backflipped away, finally rolling and moving to the left, guns still going around her. While at a dead run she once again summoned her sword. Without breaking stride, she finally lifted her sword to the sky, grunting as white magic came sparking around her flashing and making a path in front of her, absorbing the energy of everything in its path. Grunting, when the magic cleared she was the only one left standing. Stepping out, Queen paused by an enemy soldier and reached down to jerk her sword over his clothes, wiping the blood from her sword, as she normally did. She hated the stench on her own weapon. Then she was running again.
The next soldiers that came upon her were as surprised as she was. Sword disappeared and while still running, only to the side to avoid the guns, her hands swirled with the energy balls she was summoning. Sending them spiraling toward the men, she watched them overtake the men. Their cries were quickly cut out as the energy surrounded them, frying them alive. When they had all been deposited at her feet, Queen panted and jogged off, wondering how long she could keep this up. Everyone slipped every once in awhile, when was it her turn? And where was everyone else?! Damn it, why did communications have to be down now of all times? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 879 Muse:; Great! Moving from groups and clusters of soldiers to the next, King kept his eyes moving, his guns in his hands and he of course was looking for some fellow class mates, someone could be having difficulty, like Rem had been having, but most of all, he wondered how everyone as a whole was holding up. How many numbers would they lose if any at all? It was a dark thought to think about, and he had to shake them from his head, but it was more than likely that many lives would be lost. Not necessarily would those lives be lost from Class Zero, but people he knew, and he knew quite a few people…they would most likely be lost in the war, this invasion by the Milites, it was definitely a below the belt move on their part, springing on Rubrum like this. Then again, nothing in life was fair, King knew that as well as anyone else out there, the Milites were just…well they had spectacular timing, even though everyone had seen this coming, it still was a shock and left many unprepared.
Moving around and leaving Rem to her own soldiers – she was doing okay now – King let his eyes search the ground and any movements he saw in the distance, looking for a dark haired Class Zero president. Though he didn’t want to search the ground, but he knew people were bound to get injured or worse, die, but he didn’t think she was that weak. Queen was pretty tough if you went against her, he’d never want to face her, especially with those more magical attacks of hers. It just went to show how tough she really was, a strong leader. Watching a cluster of soldiers charge towards him, he charged back, guns raised as he moved almost slowly, but still a charge. Closing one eye and blitzing them with bullets, he heard the bullets hit their armor with clinks and dings, but some were effective. Some pierced the armor in just the right spot to cause the soldier’s to fall and not get up, but some had moved and blocked his attack with their own guns. Frowning heavily, King then moved fast, dodging to the side with a roll and getting back on his feet quickly before unclipping a magazine from his belt, throwing it towards the soldiers with a gun still in each hand before he aimed and shot at it, causing them all to go down with the explosion.
As the smoke and dust cleared from the small explosion, King advanced, stepping over the bodies of the fallen soldiers and keeping his eyes moving, it wasn’t until he got past the smoky air that he saw Queen, she was running and forming magic against some soldiers that were advancing on her. He was ready to bend his knees and try to snipe them off from his distance, but they’d been taken care of by the time he’d steadied one hand, closed his eye, and started to aim on one. Blinking for a second, King held one gun before taking a few quick steps to try and catch up with the jogging off Queen. He didn’t want to draw attention to her or himself, so he didn’t call out for her. Letting his one remaining gun disappear, he picked up his pace, arms swinging at his side tightly before he actually caught up to her at her side and panted a bit from all of the….excitement of the day already. “Queen.” He breathed out quietly, taking a gander around them to make sure no one was advancing on them, at least not just yet. He remained alert no matter what, nothing was going to distract him. “Are you doing alright? Have you come across anyone else?” he asked in that dead serious tone of his. There was no time to be romantic or lovey dovey, and he knew she was probably thinking the same thing.
There were simply more important things to take care of.
They needed to continue moving though, if they stayed in one spot, they could be picked off and get distracted by one another. Continuing onwards and keeping his gaze on anything but Queen, he remained rather quiet, his normal stoic self kicking in as he had just this eerie feeling that something bad was going to happen. His stomach was turning in knots, it was a sickening feeling, and he didn’t like it. His fears of losing a friend, a part of his family, they were greater than ever...especially with the sound of rapid gunfire and hollers in the distance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 863 Muse: Great! Lengthening out her stride, Queen glanced around her, stepping over the bodies of the fallen men around her to move. No doubt someone else had seen the display of magic and the flash of light that came with her cross judge. She needed to get moving, find her team, and help with this damn war. They would save everyone. She wouldn’t allow them to die. Here she was, running through the fields of war and feeling like she had been here before. Felt as if Cid had attacked them before. But…he hadn’t. He hadn’t been here before, had he? Or was she forgetting something vital? It felt like she was forgetting something she needed to remember, and she hated that feeling. With a grunt Queen ran to the side, checking all around her as she did so, keeping her violet eyes peeled for any other soldiers that might pop out of nowhere and attack her. In her quest to keep everyone else safe, she couldn’t die herself.
Jogging to the wall, Queen kept to the shadows and glanced forward, before she took a deep breath and jogged back out, keeping a sharp look out for anyone else that might have been in the area. This day…this war. She hated it. When would it end? Turning a corner she came face to face with a soldier coming toward her. Without thinking her sword was in her hand. Before he could expel the startled yell he was winding up to shout, Queen had grabbed his shoulder and ran him through with her sword. The man got a puzzled expression before he flopped over. Crouching there, violet eyes stared around her and then she was on the run again, ducking and dodging here and there. Adjusting her glasses as she did so, Queen looked straight ahead, hesitating once more when she saw soldiers in front of her. Raising her hand, energy balls swirled in her hands before she sent them at the men. It took only a moment to dispose of the men. It was then that the voice spoke out.
With nerves stretched as tight as a wire, Queen whirled around, her sword out, ready to attack whatever unfortunate soul that had come to try and attack her. It took her a moment to register that it was King that was in front of her. Stopping instantly, her sword disappeared from her hand and a look of pure relief crossed her features. “King,” she breathed out, so thankful that she had finally found one of her classmates, especially King. Now definitely wasn’t the time to get all lovey dovey though. This was war, and there was no time to kiss him and tell him how much she loved him. No, there was time only to make contact and then make sure they both stayed alive. Catching his arm, she dragged him back further into an alleyway, trying to get them out and away from the open so they could have a moment to talk without being sitting ducks. Peering out from around the corner, she heard him as how she was doing and sighed heavily.
“Tired, hot, and sick of running around. I’m supposed to be finding Team B, with Machina, Rem and Deuce, but communications were knocked out somehow, so I have no idea where they are or what they’re up against. I saw Seven awhile back, but so far that’s it, haven’t seen anyone else. What about you? Doing okay? Seen anyone else?” While talking swiftly Queen was scanning the surrounding area. It was then that he continued on though. He was right, they needed to move. Stepping out, she stayed with him but not right beside him. Too easy to pick off if they were both side to side. “We’ll stop it though, won’t we?”, she asked a bit hesitantly. Around King her confidence and leadership could waver and she knew that it wouldn’t effect him. He was a leader as well, and so she found it easy to lean against him when she needed the comfort. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 846 Muse:; Great! It was nice to see Queen alive, instead of being horrified as he had searched the ground just in case she had been injured or worse, so of course King had to heave a huge sigh of relief upon seeing her, even if it was just the back of her head, watching her take care of a little unfinished business around her. As he approached her, he spoke her name, watching her whirl around with her sword out and ready to attack. Taking a step back and letting his dual guns disappear from his hands, he put them up in surrender – not that he was worried about her accidentally attacking him or anything, everyone was one edge – he simply gave her a sincere look, trying to remove the thoughts of death and war from his mind, but that was much easier said than done, damn near impossible actually, especially with the echoing sounds of horror in the distance, that was something no one could block out.
The look of relief on Queen’s face made him realize how stressful this war was. It was really taking its toll on everyone. Every student, every instructor and of course, every soldier. With a shake of his head, he felt his muscles relax a bit being around here, but his alertness never faded once. He was keeping an eye out for anything and everything. Feeling a hand catch his arm, he nearly stumbled over but knew Queen had the right idea, standing out in the middle of no man’s land was idiotic. It was the perfect place to get shot and killed. Trailing after her into the alleyway, he rested his back against one of the walls wanting so desperately to sink down the bricks and just sit down for a few minutes. Of course, if he sat down he wouldn’t want to get back up. His legs were sore, as well as his arms from all that gun shooting. With a few moments of silence, he’d then asked her how she was doing, not figuring the answer would be pleasant at all, he just wanted to make sure there was something he hadn’t overlooked, like an injury of sorts.
At least she wasn’t hurt from what he could tell. She was supposed to be meeting with team B. As for King, he was supposed to be meeting with them as well, Rem, Machina and Deuce…as well as Queen. Shaking his head a bit, he felt stupid, he should’ve dragged Rem along with him after he had ran into her, but he was more focused on saving his friend and keeping Milites off her back rather than tugging her along to go find people. They were at war, it was nothing but death and despair, and with that dark thought, he cringed a bit, wondering if his comrade whom he had saved only a short while ago was even alive anymore. He needed to push these thoughts from his mind right now, before he stomped out onto the battlefield once more and went to track down every single member of Class Zero ever. “I saw Rem here a little bit ago, she was doing just fine. I’m sure we’ll find them soon.” He assured her, reaching forward and pressing a hand against her shoulder firmly, giving her some sort of assurance was nice…they’d find the rest of them and soon.
Her next statement…it almost made King change expressions, which was honestly rare whenever he was being his stoic self, emotionless and cold. Queen was doubtful, or at least that was what he was getting from all of this. If anything, though it wasn’t his forte, King had to raise the spirits here. Usually it was Eight, Jack or even Nine who served to boost morale when things were looking bad. This was not King’s area of expertise. With barely any hesitation from the ending of her question, King had started speaking. “Of course, there’s nothing we can’t overcome. Though it may seem impossible, there’s always a way to the winning side.” He said giving her the most optimistic tone he could muster at the moment, his eyes moving to the opening of the alleyway, watching a few soldiers run past but they hadn’t been noticed. King had frozen of course but let them be, he wanted a break and it was obvious that Queen needed one as well. Resting his palms on his knees, he just breathed deep for a few moments before stretching to his full height, turning back to Queen and taking a moment to nod towards the entrance of the alley, as if to say they should get going.
As he let Queen pass him first, he was staring back at the rooftops just overhead, swearing he saw something move up there, but his mind let him think it was a bird or something, his mind playing tricks on him. Though he wasn’t facing Queen, his expression and all around silence was saying that something was wrong. Hesitantly turning back, he started to usher Queen from the alley before seeing a small red laser light against her back, moving slightly until it focused in on the back of her skull. With a quick reaction as he heard the bullet fire, he moved himself to be a wall in front of her, using his arms to push her to the side of the alleyway and take the hit in his own back for her, on his left side. After the shot went through his back, he whirled around quickly with one gun summoned, aiming and shooting rapidly, not even aiming until he heard the grunt of a now dead sniper. His free hand was pressing against the wound now seeping through his chest and uniform. Great….

Queen was simply relieved to know that there were other members of class zero that were still alive. She could handle fighting alone, had done so successfully until now, but the worry about King and the rest had been driving her crazy. Now she would know that at least her boyfriend was alive. Despite knowing that now wasn't the proper time to get lovey dovey, Queen felt her heart skitter a few times while looking up at him. Yes, relief was there, but Queen was also worried about the rest. They were all strong in their own way...but what about members like Deuce or Cinque? She worried about them. Sice....Seven, those two could definitely take care of themselves. They she didn't worry so much about, especially since in the short time she had spoken to Seven, she had learned that her team was supposed to be Sice, Trey and her. They would be okay if any team would be.
So hearing about Rem was a relief. That was two...no, three of her class that she knew were alive and well. True, Rem and Machina didn't mean as much to her as the others -as cruel as that sounded-, but they were still a part of Class Zero, and that meant that they were part of the family now. "Good, the rest...they have to be okay. They're strong," she commented firmly, though a bit hopefully. The hand squeezing her shoulder calmed her even more, even gaining a weak smile from her lips. This didn't seem like the time or place for a smile, but she also knew from experience that sometimes it was a smile that gave you the confidence or courage to continue on. "Thank you King, I needed that," she stated simply, not expanding on what she meant.
And he was right...they could win this. It didn't matter if they were outnumbered, it wasn't always the strongest that won in the end. The saying went that the bigger they were, the harder they fell. This Cid was as big egotistically as he could possibly be, and she would enjoy watching him fall. But she had to agree that it was time to move. If he was on her team, then they had three other people to find. Striding out in front of him, Queen was on her full attention toward the front' not watching her back. For that reason she was surprised when she was shoved from behind. With a startled gasp, Queen fell forward and onto her knees. Whirling around, Queen went to push herself up when she heard the shot and saw King jerk from the hit.
"NO!", she screamed out, bounding to her feet, terrified for King, but aware that she needed to take out the danger first if there was any left. Eyes scanned where the sniper had been, just in time to see the man fall from King's bullets. The next moment she ran the few steps toward where King was now on the ground. Skidding to a stop, she ended up kneeling beside him on one knee, her second leg extended the length of his body. "King," she breathed out, hands instantly going to his shirt and jacket. Seeing the wound that was now gushing blood, Queen tore at the fabric until she could see it easier. Where the bullet had entered was clean and small, but Queen knew instantly what the back of him would look like. Probably with a hole torn from his body big enough to throw a dog through. Face paled instantly. She couldn't fix this. Her mind screamed at her to do something though. Using some of the torn material, Queen pressed down against the wound, trying to staunch the flow of blood. "It's bad," she said then, trying to keep the shaking out of her voice. "We need to get you to somewhere fast. I can't fix it." She had never wished she was a doctor or a white mage more then she did now, but her personality and training forced her to keep a calm, level head. Freaking out wouldn't help this situation...or so she kept telling herself.

Giving Queen some reassurance was the best way to go. She was the President of Class Zero, if she lost her cool and everyone else would follow suit. King was a calming figure, never to let himself get caught up in emotion, no matter how disastrous the situation may be. Even now he was quite calm, though he really did worry about his other classmates, he had to put on a stone mask and try to calm Queen from her worries. “Don’t worry, they will be fine.” He reinforced again hoping that would ease some of her fear for her friends, no…family. He could understand the fear though, he was feeling the same thing on the inside. If he heard that Deuce or even someone like Trey had gotten injured or worse on the fields of battle…King would be seeing red, wanting to avenge the lives of his family…and that’s when true emotion would show, this had yet to come though, for now, King was calm…and Queen needed to be the same way.
That confidence in his teammates would have to wait. King had noticed the sniper, ready to shoot Queen and take her down by the back of her head, but forming a barrier between herself and the bullet, King took the shot for her, not going down like the average man, but turning around and sending the fire right back at the sniper, doing a better job than the milite had done. Once he’d watched the sniper get hit, flail around for a moment before toppling over the ledge of the building, King turned back to Queen, his hand clutching at his chest, it was simply natural to try and stop the bleeding by applying pressure, but this wasn’t going to help. At least he wasn’t going to collapse like a rock. Letting his one summoned dial gun disappear from his hand, he slowly dropped to one knee, not wanting to collapse, he pressed his free palm against the ground with one knee raised, his eyes on the ground as he breathed in heavily through his mouth, the pain hadn’t sunk in yet…he was in far too much shock to feel much of anything right now.
With Queen all up in his space now – which he didn’t mind seeing as he was probably scaring the crap out of her right now – King lowered his hand from his wound and tried to wipe some of the blood onto his khaki pants, feeling her tear through the cloth that was guarding his wound. He knew she couldn’t fix it, he was no mage either, but if he was going to survive and meet up with Rem, Machina and Deuce…then this needed to be taken care of immediately. Rem…Rem was from the white mage class! He’d seen her recently, maybe she was still nearby somewhere? It was the only idea he had right now. Lifting his head slightly and looking at Queen, he gave her a small nod to her words. “Rem…might be somewhere nearby…she’s a white mage…” which Queen knew, pretty much the newest member of class zero was his last hope. With a small wobble, just because of the lightheadedness of rising, King got to his feet and instantly moved his already bloodied hand to his wound, pushing hard against it with great pressure before summoning one gun into his free hand. “We need to find her…someone…then we need to find Deuce and the rest of our team.”
Starting past her with pretty stable steps, King kept his eyes open, blinking a few more times than normal since he was still in such shock, he wasn’t sure if he was even going the right way. One might call him dazed and confused, but he did his best…that was all you could do. At least he wasn’t going to lay down and die like some poor sap, no…no dirt naps just yet. As for the future, the rest of the day…that wasn’t up to him, that was up the gods above…if they even existed, but with the way things were going these days…King wasn’t sure what to believe in. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 805 Muse: Pretty great! This wasn’t happening. As soon as she watched the scene play out in front of her, Queen felt this inner panic start to rage inside her body. A fear gripped her then. Checking quickly to make sure his shots had indeed stopped the sniper, Queen then only had one goal, and that was to get to the fallen man that meant so much to her. Rushing over to him, Queen knelt quickly, searching eyes trying to see exactly what was wrong. The feeling of despair that instantly took over wasn’t one that she was used to feeling. Honestly, being a leader with a strong personality, Queen had never doubted her own abilities. Never doubted that she could accomplish anything she set her mind on. But…here she was now, crouched over his body, frantically peeling back his clothes to try and see what she could do. And as she did, she realized that there was nothing that she could do. Of course she knew low leveled cure spells, but this called for something much more powerful than that. And it terrified her. For perhaps the first time in her life, Queen didn’t think that she could do anything.
Still, she had to stay strong! There was always a chance of anything. And here she was, he’d barely gotten shot and she was bringing dooms day. But…there was so much blood. Watching him wipe it on his khaki pants, she felt this fear creep up into her heart that she desperately wished she could keep from her features. That was always what she was doing. Keep it from him that she was absolutely terrified. She had grown up like that. Grown up making sure that she never showed her fear, especially to any of the younger students. And while King definitely wasn’t one of the younger students, she couldn’t express to him the fear she had over her being unable to do anything for him at this point. They had to find a white mage, or mother. Yes, either of those would be able to help King. Any of them would be able to! She was sure of it. The problem being that she had, in all this chaos, absolutely no idea where anyone that actually could help even was. For all she knew, there might not be anyone left alive that could help.
Swallowing the fear that she was feeling, Queen told him what she thought, hoping that her voice sounded as steady as she thought it did. When his gaze met hers, she tried to keep her eyes calm and free from the fear that she was feeling. She just…she just didn’t know. That terrified her, because she had always been so confident, so sure of herself and the future around her. And here they were…
It reminded her of the conversation she had had with Hope. Asking about the feeling of déjà vu that Cater and recently, herself had been having. Somehow it was tied to this war, she was sure of it. How, she had no idea, perhaps she would figure out in the time to come, but something was strange. Laying a hand on his arm, she ignored the blood on her own fingers. Rem? “Alright, if you saw her, she might still be in the vicinity.” She hoped with everything she had that that was the case. She would give anything for that to be the case, because Rem could fix this. She was sure of that. But finding one particular person in amongst this chaos was going to be a real challenge.
She rose to her own feet when he did, concern finding its way onto her features. Glancing at him, she was like a worried hen, waiting to be able to help him, but she tried to keep that from showing through. She had to be strong, and encourage him that way. When he summoned his gun, her sword was instantly in her hand. Still, she would give him a hand with walking. And damn it, they would find Rem. Or Deuce. Or anyone that could help! She in turn stepped up to him as he walked, before pacing ahead of him. She would take on any forces head on to keep them from reaching King. If they could just hold on…just….hold on.

This wasn’t something King was prepared for every day of his life. Sure, he’d known the possibilities of getting wounded even on the simplest of days, but this…wasn’t your ordinary training accident. King had done something practically heroic, but also idiotic on his part. He couldn’t easily told Queen to duck down, but the possibility of a bullet crushing into her skull had made him act on a whim, throwing her forward and putting himself as the barrier between her and the lead from the sniper rifle a Milite soldier was using only a short few yards away on a rooftop. King wasn’t experiencing immediate pain, he was more shocked at the fact of what he’d done, what happened had happened so quick that it was almost too fast to remember. He blinked for a few seconds before having gotten down to one knee due to the increasing pressure that was near his chest.
He’d finally started to realize the fact that he’d been sniped.
With a hand clutching towards his chest, he kept his eyes on the ground, doing his best to wipe any expression from his face, though even that was hard now with his body in extreme pain now. He took deep breaths, one hand pressed on the ground as he tried to breathe in and get as much oxygen as possible. He’d be losing a lot of blood, he knew that much, his heart had to work even harder now to make up for all that was going to be lost…King had no intentions of letting this get in the way of the war, he needed to keep going to help his friends…if he went to rest, that made their numbers go down, the more their numbers went down, the more likely they were to get injured, and King couldn’t have that, especially to the younger members, they didn’t even need to be out here fighting. Let the adults do the fighting, not that King and the rest of them his age were necessarily adults, but here they were, out here fighting anyways. Sad wasn’t it? Sending children out into the world to fight instead of those perfectly capable, then again…Class Zero had been trained for this, that’s why they were so special. I guess it was time to finally serve a real purpose.
On his feet now, King was pretty stable, he was always a calm and stable person, even now in the heart of war…and the fact that he was injured pretty bad, it was amazing the things you could do with the right mindset. All he wanted to do was find a white mage, and the only one he’d seen thus far was Rem, she had to be nearby. With Queen leading the way, King wasn’t going to protest, but he wasn’t sure he liked the idea of her being ahead of him. If anyone was going to get hurt, why not the already hurt one? She needed to stay strong and be well put together for the sake of the others, in time King would heal, he’d be fine, especially if they found Rem or someone else who could perform a high cure spell to heal him, until then though, he wasn’t going to voice his opinions on the matter, he was simply going to follow behind and keep his eyes open, his steps steady, and his gun ready to fire.
Moving along, King wasn’t having too difficult of a time walking. He faltered a step or two here and there, but that was probably because of his eyes being everywhere else aside from where he was walking, but even still, he was breathing heavy, pressing his free arm tightly against his wound to try and stop the bleeding so he could feel like he had air in his lungs again, but it was just not very good. His moving and trying to get himself healed wasn’t something that went together very well. “Don’t worry, Queen. Everything will be alright…okay?” he said as he kept his eyes moving constantly, trying to add up for the silence which he usually welcomed with open arms, but this was something completely different. Now he didn’t want the silence…anything but silence. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 805 Muse: Great! Queen wouldn’t even dream of allowing King to take the lead. He was bleeding all over his uniform and stumbling around; of course she was the obvious choice to take point. Queen didn’t really mind it either; she had always been a very ‘hands on’ fighter, keeping it up close and personal with her saber. She was used to taking the lead, both in combat and not, and so in this situation, she stepped up easily and took the lead without complaint. And of course, though she told herself it was just logic causing her to do so, she knew deeper down that it was because she was worried as hell about King, and didn’t want him to get any worse harmed then he already was. Thankfully he was a long ranged fighter, and didn’t have to jerk his body around a lot to fight; instead he could rely on his twin guns. That made it easier for her to take the lead as well, since he could stay back and assist her by picking people off from back further.
Queen really wished he could lay and not move, since he was injured, but she doubted that he would take this laying down. That, and she knew that in this situation, lying down and waiting for help was impossible. Though he didn’t show it all that much and put on a brave front of ‘everything is going to be alright’, Queen knew that there was something seriously wrong with this injury. Yes, they needed to get him to Rem or someone that could heal him as soon as possible. Queen had never claimed to be a white mage of any sort, and had always focused on frontal attacks and allowing others to back her up, that she had never even considered the possibility of learning some more powerful cure magics. She regretted it now.
And there he was again right now, telling her that everything was going to be alright and not to worry. Queen didn’t look at him when she agreed. Hell, how could she not worry? Though they had kept things strictly necessity, Queen felt a lot more for King than just as a comrade. Unfortunately, there was no time to show it, and she refused to do so, but even still, she cared about him more than just a friend or brother or something, hell, she loved him. Some may say that she was too young to know what love was, but she didn’t think so. Seeing him injured was hard on her, yet she refused to succumb to any fear or doubt, instead she pushed on with him back there supporting her. As they rounded a corner a soldier came up on them. Queen didn’t hesitate in her stride as she ended the life of the soldier, but paused once again to wipe the blood from her blade. She hated the stench of the Milites on her weapon.
And then suddenly dawning came to her. Pausing, Queen turned back to King, a peculiar look on her face. “King…this…this is why Arecia chose us.”, she choked out, remembering the conversation they’d had at the dance, just weeks before. Had that really only been that long ago? It seemed like forever ago. Weeks previous they had been carefree students, living as regular kids, and then in the course of mere days, Byakko had declared war and was currently marching toward them to destroy them. And yet here Class Zero was, ready to take on the forces. No…not ready, so much as forced to step up when no one else would. Understanding had finally dawned. They were the chosen ones. But chosen…for what exactly? There had to be more than just fighting another country…right? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 793 Muse:; Great! One step at a time…careful breaths…King had to remember those things. He faltered a few steps, but only because his eyes were wandering too much. He didn’t want to be caught off guard by any soldiers, nor did he want Queen in potential danger again. With a deep sigh, he continued to follow her with no objections to her leading the way. She was a fantastic leader, she could spot danger as well as he could, and she of course didn’t have the difficulty of having a wound on her hands. King just kept one arm pressed against his chest, next to his wound, which was helping somewhat. He felt his breathing steady up a bit, but he was still hurting, which was completely understandable, but right now…it felt as if things would get better from here, so long as they kept moving at a good pace and found Rem quite soon.
Hearing something after rounding a corner, King was ready to fire bullets into the head of the soldier that tried to jump them, but Queen had it all taken care of. She’d obliterated the soldier without a second glance, which was okay, but it made King feel as if he needed to be on his toes even more. Shaking his head some before she turned and spoke to him. Thinking back towards their small talk during the dance, King nodded slowly, he was understanding what it was she was saying, putting his words from before when they’d escaped the dance, the angst that had been brewing, and talked about why Arecia had chose them all specifically. Shaking his head a bit, he took his arm from his would and rubbed at his forehead a bit before replacing his arm where it needed to be. “I suppose you’re right. This is what she chose us for.” He said listening in the distance to the sounds of warfare. It wasn’t pleasant, and it wasn’t going to get any better as it was.
Finding the others, King was worried for them, if he could get shot and injured, then who was to say that someone else couldn’t get hurt out there by themselves? Walking up to Queen and giving her a small nod before passing by, looking to his left and right to make sure no one else was coming. “Let’s get going. The others are waiting somewhere.” He commented as he looked to see which direction they needed to go. Maybe heading closer towards Academy grounds would be easier, besides, he was closer towards the academy when he ran into Rem? She could still be in the general location. “Maybe they have already gathered as a group.” He suggested quietly, hoping that they had, hoping they were watching each other’s backs and keeping one another safe. Standing still and off to the side, he waited for her, wondering if she wanted to continue to lead the way, he wouldn’t care if he continued to watch the rear for them. So long as Queen stayed safe until they found their other class mates, then King would be more than happy.
Reaching his free hand out and pulling her hand, King kept them close on the sidewalk of the city, close to the walls, so that nothing could actually get them from behind, everything would be observed, they’d be able to spot anything approaching, that is should anything think about coming after them. As he walked, leading the way slightly, he kept his eyes to the side, continued a swift pace even though it ached to walk at such a speed, no need to lollygag. It was when he looked forward and saw something rolling his way on the ground that he stopped abruptly. His eyes widened and his heart race started up quick again as he quickly turned, the small rolling object hitting the heel of his foot. “Back!” he called, letting his one gun disappear from his grasp and putting his arms around Queen, pretty much backing her up without giving her time to use her own feet. Pulling her down to the ground and keeping himself as a barrier between her and the small object, King felt the heat and burning sensation from that small grenade that had been tossed their way. Instant pain on his back and strain on his already bad wound which started from his back. With a groan, he moved off to the side, that way he wasn’t actually on top of Queen. “I don’t know if we’re going to find Rem.” He wheezed, pressing a hand to his chest before he sunk and placed his forehead against the ground, taking deep breaths. “Unless she just so happens to skip on by.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 897 Muse: Great! It all made sense now.
She had always questioned exactly why it was that they had been chosen, but no longer did she do so. No…this was what Arecia had known that they would have to do. Somehow she had known, and she had picked the strongest to do so. She had made sure that they would be able to complete the task assigned. How could she not have seen it before? How could she not have guessed? It had been hiding right there in plain sight all this time, she had just had to search for it. But now that she knew…how did she feel about it? Queen just felt…like…Arecia should have told them what they would have to do some day. Was this why Cater and then she herself had felt as if she had déjà vu? Was that what this was all about? Thinking back to her conversation with Hope, Queen finally just shook her head. They did have a purpose, but…could they live up to it? Could they really win in this war that they had to fight? Yes. It didn’t matter if they wanted to, they had to win. They had to stop the maniac Cid.
But it would all have to wait. Queen nodded sharply when he said that they were going to have to find the rest of them to show that she understood what he meant and comprehended that they would indeed have to find their classmates. Queen didn’t know if anyone was alive any more, as she had gotten cut off with communication and hadn’t been in contact with any of them aside from King. Rem might be alive, but…though it sounded somewhat harsh, Queen didn’t care about her as much as the others. She hadn’t grown up with Rem, didn’t have memories of childhood events, and didn’t feel as if the girl was a sibling. No, she would much rather know that Cinque or Deuce was alright, but she didn’t voice any of that aloud. The girl had become part of Class Zero, and had in effect, become part of them, and for that reason Queen worried if she was alright, even if the girl wasn’t anywhere nearly as close as the rest of them were to her.
The feel of King’s hand clasping at her free one brought comfort, and she firmly squeezed at his hand to thank him for the comfort, as slight as it was really. Queen was always in control, always calculated, but sometimes it felt good to just know that someone was there to share the burdens with you. And there was no one else, aside from possibly Ace, that Queen felt as comfortable with allowing to lead her, yet she followed King willingly, glancing at his torso to check and see how he was doing. Well…how did she think he was doing? It couldn’t be good. Still, he continued on as he always was, firm and courageous, with a steel bottom layer that wouldn’t allow him to lay down and give up.
Hardly before she could realize what was happening, King’s arms were around her and forcing her back. She had no time to react while her sword disappeared from her grasp, but cling to him and try to shuffle back quickly, not sure what it was that was happening, but knowing that something major was happening. Her hands clung to him while he did so, and she pressed her head against his chest, before suddenly he had her down on the ground and was stretched out on top of her. Before she could ask what was the matter, an explosion sounded that made her ears ring, eyes become blurry, and still she clung to King. “King…”, she croaked out, head foggy from the explosion and ringing. She tried to go with him when he moved away, and ended up on her knees beside him, unable to concentrate on anything, hands anchoring herself against him. Through the haze his words got to her. Couldn’t find…that meant. “Stay with me, damn it King.”, she bit out in sorrow. Hell! He couldn’t just up and leave her damn it! “Do you hear me! We’re going to both be on the other side of this!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 886 Muse:; Great! Location:; Rubrum Outfit:; Uniform Tagged:; King Notes:; ;-; Listening To:; The Packer game

This war…such cruelty. How could Rubrum think of sending children out to fight their wars? It was a thing King had known about, it was something he had expected…but he hadn’t mentally prepared himself for the fields of war. He knew how to use his guns better than anyone, he knew how to strategize and battle, but he had never assumed in his lifetime that he would be sent to war like a typical soldier. How could someone expect them to go out and be fearless? King only shuddered at the thought of someone like Deuce out there fighting soldiers, she was probably doing that right now. How could he live with himself if one of the younger team members had fallen? It was a sickening and stomach turning feeling that nearly made the blonde sick. All he could do was keep those sickening thoughts to push himself forward, he needed to find the rest of their team and make sure that they were all safe. They didn’t call King Team Mom for nothing!
That theory, finding his class mates assigned to his specific team, it was a short lived thought. King had been shot, and now that they were starting up a new street, he’d noticed the device that could’ve blown both him and Queen to bits. Turning on a whim instead of taking the time to inspect the device, it had been perfect timing, it saved Queen at least, maybe a few bumps and bruises on her part, but at least she wasn’t going to be effected all that much. King on the other hand…a wound already pierced his back due to the sniper, it had flown through his chest and with the explosion behind him, the heat from it and feeling the effects of it…it caused his wound to worsen, to bleed more, especially from the back. At least he’d done well and served as a shield for Queen. A King always needed to protect his Queen, didn’t he? At least, that’s how it had been in the old times…I guess it was just the same as today.
With Queen on the ground, clinging to him, King was only slightly dazed, but he wasn’t totally out of it just yet. His mind was racing, his breaths got a little bit deeper, but he could easily figure where all of this was going to go. Queen could survive, he could too if he stayed out of the line of fire…and if Rem just so happened to waltz on by. It would be a real miracle if she did…if anyone who knew magic did. King would be clinging to dear life by thin threads before long, and he knew it…he didn’t want Queen to worry though. How could he fake past this one? He’d moved from on top of her and off to the side, one hand at his chest, the other keeping him upright as he was on his knees, pressing his forehead against the ground to try and help level himself out in terms of oxygen getting to the lack of blood that was running through his veins right now. “I hear you, Queen. I just…don’t know…if we’ll find her in time.” He croaked in his own very strained voice as he shook his head slightly, feeling the pavement against his forehead as he then lifted himself up with the strength from his arms. He turned his gaze to look at Queen, a pained expression on his face as he sat up more. “Let’s…move. We can’t stay here.”
Shifting to his feet, King rose up off the ground very slowly and with major shaky unstable movements, feeling as if his legs were numb, and they probably were to be quite honest. He was losing blood like no other right now…it wouldn’t be surprising if his limbs started to go numb. As he looked at the ground, he could see the red stains that covered the dark pavement before he reached out a hand to help Queen to her feet. He was unstable, that was clearly visible, as was the fact that he was in pain…but so long as they got out of here…so long as Queen got out of here, then the rest would surely follow. “Quickly.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 827 Muse: Great! Queen felt some sort of exhaustion and despair come over her. Damn it! Things hadn’t supposed to go like this! Out of all of them, she hadn’t thought that she would have to worry about King. Damn it, he was…probably the strongest of them, and yet here he was. Life was cruel, she would admit that, but it was so hard to accept what happened when it was someone you loved. How…how was she supposed to get through this? She knew…she wasn’t stupid. She knew how bad his injuries must be, and with all the blood… No, he wasn’t alright, and she knew it, though she was trying not to carry on about it. But she felt helpless. So helpless to do anything that she could to relieve the pain. There was nothing. She was stuck in between a rock and a hard place. She couldn’t just allow him to stay by himself to go out and find help by herself while he stayed behind. The threat of forces was all around them, and though he was an excellent fighter, with all the loss of blood and pain, she had no doubt that enemy forces would be able to slaughter him. But if she stayed…they would never be able to find anyone in time with the slower pace. Damn it! This shouldn’t be so hard!
She had thought herself prepared for anything, but faced with this, she just wanted to cry or scream, or do…something! This being unable to do anything at all was killing her slowly. How could…she just hated it. While she scooted to her knees after the grenade, slightly dazed, she noticed that he had once more gone downhill. He couldn’t afford anything else happening to him! Cursing lightly through her grit teeth, Queen finally did what she could, which at the moment was simply telling him that he would make it. He was a fighter, he could make it through this!
Her entire life she had been sort of the big sister to everyone in Class Zero in the fact that she thought it her duty to take care of everyone else in the class. Perhaps she hadn’t ever been able to show it in the best way, but damn it, she would take care of him now, if it was only in the form of finding Rem and getting her here in time. Queen felt an anger burning deep inside her gut, a hatred for the Milites. She would see them rot for what they had done to her family, her school, and the countries that surrounded her. They had to stop them here, because if they got through Rubrum, what was the chances that the other countries would have against them? None…
No, it was up to them! They could do it, she knew they could. Kneeling beside King while he laid his head against the pavement and mumbled about not finding Rem in time, Queen shook her head, a peculiar look in her eyes. “Stop. We’ll find her.”, she almost snapped out. She didn’t know how to handle her fear, and so she just snapped about it. If she had the determination, then he had to as well. Right? Right! Like now, he was saying that they had to move. Queen nodded quickly, trying to assist him as best she could to stand up, before being helped up herself. “Come on.”, she said more calmly, having forced herself to gain her cool head once again. Wrapping her arm around his middle, she supported some of his weight as they started off. When two soldiers came barreling around a corner, Queen growled her rage out deep within her throat. Flickering her wrist up, she sent energy balls rained down on them, causing electrocution to fell them where they had been, the screams gurgling deep within their throats. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 823 Muse:; Good! This sort of pain wasn't something King had ever been trained for. It was almost too much for him, and if you ask anyone in his class...they'd tell you he was about as strong and will powered as they came. This though, was cruel. He'd been shot...and now this? But at least Queen was safe for the most part, at least to his knowledge. Shaking his head slightly as he pressed his forehead against the ground, he breathed deeply, sucking in that oxygen he was so desperately lacking at this very moment, his heart was working so hard, trying to pump as much blood as possible due to what he had lost. It made King unstable, feeling numb almost, but he couldn't just lay down and die with Queen near him. She could get hurt due to being out here in the open. If anything, King had to make sure she got to another class mate, no matter who it was, whether it be Seven or Machina, she needed to have someone watch her back since King wouldn't be able to for much longer, he wasn't stupid enough to believe that he could laugh in the face of death and live to tell the tale, even Nine wasn't that stupid. King knew very well how this was going to end.
Shifting himself up to his feet with the help of Queen, King felt unstable, but he was willing to give it his all to get out of here as fast as possible, for Queen's sake. At least she supported him so that he wouldn't just fall over. They started off at a slow pace, but those slow steps didn't get very far, it was then two soldiers had appeared, but as quick as they had shown up...Queen took care of them just as fast. They fell, and King watched it all...but his vision started to blur. Everything was started to turn into a fog, a mist that kept him from feeling totally there. He felt pain, lost, and almost mentally numb, as if he wasn't sure what to do anymore. What was he supposed to do? Slow down Queen and possibly get her into worse shape than he? No he couldnt do that to her, she needed to get the rest of the class back on track, she was the Class President after all. As he stood there, his eyes still in a fog, he turned his head towards Queen slightly, able to see her out of the corners of his eyes. This wasnt going to work anymore, King just couldnt be dragged around trying to find someone who may or may not even be around. There just wasnt any hope left, as sad as it was to say for him, he knew it, and by the way Queen was acting, the determination and almost void look King had been seeing...she had to know it too.
"Perhaps...we stay put. My whole body feels numb, I dont want to make...this any worse than it already is." He didnt give her a choice, or even a chance to debate him on anything. He pulled himself from Queen's grip around his waist, slowly lowering himself to the ground to sit on the curb they were next to, his elbows resting on his knees and his eyes staring at the ground. He hadn't been lying when he said he felt practically numb, because that was exactly what he felt like right now. Not saying anything more, he kept his eyes down, as well as his head, he wasn't sure what Queen would do about his choice, about what it was he had decided to do, but hopefully she chose to take care of herself. That was merely wishful thinking on King's part. He knew well that she wouldn't abandon him anytime soon, especially with how they were...a relationship, it was a sad thought, but he'd give anything for her to get out of here and save her own skin. That idea of getting her to another member of their class...it didn't seem even that was going to happen.
Today was just full of so many disappointments wasn't it?
The numbness that had gone to King's limbs began to fog his mind a little more, he was seeing things in a black and white hue, everything was foggy and he just felt dazed, not confused, but lost. Shaking his head again, he turned himself, blinking hard to try and clear his vision, it didn't help much, but he could see Queen's formation at least. "We aren't going to find Rem, but you...you should go find...someone, anyone. I don't want you out here alone with no one to watch your back, you hear?" for once he was putting his foot down on the matter, and that was that, but it wasn't like he had enough energy to enforce everything. "You need...to lead our class...otherwise we'll be sure to fall...we should've seen the signs when Seven was left at the academy gates...we should've acted, but like now...we were too late." stark words, yet so very true.
