Around her hips is a belt that holds her equipment, ammo and handgun, along with a sling she places on her shoulders that cinches down to hold whatever rifle she has at the time.
Personality: Layne has always been a strategist. While young she would play chess with her father and it grew from there. Usually she tends to think something over for a tad bit longer then she needs to, which can get her in trouble at times where she needs to quickly make a decision. Once she has reached a decision however, she can be quite stubborn in that she very rarely gives up and will stick to whatever decision she has made. Sometimes it can be hard for her to admit that she was wrong or that someone else had a better idea, especially if she has somewhat of a rivalry with that person.
Despite being a thinker, Layne is quiet by no means. Though she doesn't needlessly chit chat with just anyone and everyone, she has no problems speaking her mind, standing up for what she believes in, or telling anyone her opinions. Despite her father having a position in the military and growing up with respect for the government, her years as a treasure hunter have made that respect lax. If she needs to go above the government to accomplish something, she normally doesn't have a problem doing so, though she wouldn't want her mother to know that. She can be sarcastic and doesn't take to stupidity or overly excitable people. Despite this, though, she has compassion and does show it regularly. When it comes to treasure though, finders keepers, even if 'finding' includes taking.
History: There was nothing tragic about Layne's early life. She was raised in a normal family, mother, father and one older brother. Her mother was a stay at home mom, dad was in the Nabradia military, retired since the previous war. She never had to worry about where the next meal came from. Her house was stable and full of love. Because of living through a war, her father decided that his children needed to be able to defend themselves in case of attack. Thus he would periodically take them out to learn how to use different firearms. Both her and her brother excelled, competing with each other to soar in their abilities. Perhaps due to the stable childhood, Layne was always left desiring a more 'exciting life'.
When she turned eighteen, she decided she wanted to travel the world and become independent. The first place she decided to go to was Rozarria, intrigued by the ancient history and the beauty and grace of the culture in that country. When she made it to the country or Rozarria, Layne had no more money left to her name. But this was an adventure, and she refused to wire to her family to ask for any. So she set out and found a job at a local museum as a tour guide for the building. Having always been intrigued with artifacts and treasure, Layne felt at home surrounded by exactly that. After a few months of working there, the manager decided to go on campaigns for business, sending someone on trips to retrieve artifacts and having that person sponsored. It was all a ploy to get more customers and their museum name out there more.
Deciding that he needed someone with a pretty face to send, Layne was approached for the position. Having been interested in such for years, she jumped at the opportunity. Thus, she went from a tour guide to a treasure hunter, or so was romanticized. Taking survival courses, she got prepared for the whole routine, but to her, it was more then a job. For years after that, Layne went on the expeditions, bringing back artifacts and treasures for the museum and building a name for herself. Along the way, on different expeditions to get various treasures, she would run into a Rozarrian native, bent on getting the same treasures. In that way it became somewhat of a rivalry, with Layne winning some and losing some. Layne can't quite hold a grudge against the dark haired beauty though, for reasons of their past being connected as children.
Many treasures and some years later, the invasion happened. Layne, still living in Rozarria, got a letter from her mother, very old and sent to many different places before it finally reached her. Not knowing what to think of this, she opened it and had a letter telling her of the events that had happened in Nabradia recently. It spoke of the wedding that took place between the prince of Nabradia and the Princess of Dalmasca, and it also told her that her father and brother had been called to arms during the invasion that had destroyed Nabradia. Her father had been killed, while her brother was missing. The news devastated her, and so she immediately tried to get across the border to return to Nabradia, (Or what was left) and find her mother. She was denied access, with the officials not letting anyone cross the border as of that moment.
Unable to stand that, Layne snuck across and managed to find transportation to what had used to be a small, yet proud country. It would take her months after to finally locate her mother. After finding her, Layne decided that she would return to Rozarria with her. Sneaking them both across the border once more, she settled her mother in a small, yet comfortable home. Only after she had seen to the comforts of her mother did she return to the museum. Despite her fathers death and her brothers disappearance, Layne never became an angsty woman, never vowed for revenge. She took it in stride - despite being devastated - and focused all her energy into taking care of her mother, continuing to go on expeditions for the money to care for her.
It was only after a long while though, that Layne decided she didn't want to look at her exploits from behind glass. No, she was the best, a true treasure hunter, and so she quit her job, becoming independent and going to seek treasure for her own self, being able to supply a comfortable living for her mother while traipsing all across the country herself. (Something she liked the best) The fall of Vayne Solidor was very rewarding, and Layne finally could feel that her father was avenged. Her brother is still missing, but because she's never seen a body or proof of his death, she refuses to believe he's dead. So she continued to seek out treasure to sell and maintain a life for what little remains of her family, hoping that one day her brother will come back to them.
Abilities:
- Firearms/Marksmanship: Due to her fathers training, Layne is well versed when it comes to weapons of almost any kind. She can take up guns especially with the ease born of using them often, and almost never misses her mark. If she's aiming at you, chances are she's going to hit you.
- Survival: Having been trained on the ability to adapt and survive, this young woman could be dropped into the wilderness with nothing and survive with as much ease as humanly possible. This comes in handy on expeditions that don't always go as planned.
- Problem solving: Having always been an intelligent girl, Layne can, given the time, figure out most problems that she is faced with. Be it locks she has to pick, to the most advances cover ups on ancient treasures, she can usually solve whatever the problem is.
