Kirtana was still half asleep inside. Rubbing her eyes with her hands, Kirtana walked swiftly toward where she was supposed to be. The text from Gladiolus had woken her in the middle of the night, asking her to come to the park where they had used to meet. Of course, had it been anyone else, Kirtana would have rolled over and gone back to sleep, but for Gladiolus she had gotten dressed and left the place she was staying to go meet him. Though he had offered for her to stay at the mansion, Kirtana had felt that wouldn’t be a good idea. Instead, she had secured a place in a house a few miles from the mansion. It was hard to start over in a completely different country, but she was thankful it had gone as well as it had. Aside from the…adventures that she and Gladiolus had had. Like being portaled to that world where she had gotten a fever from the desert and had apparently been close to dying. It was a humbling thought to know that your life had been held in the grasp of people that could kill you.
The only person she trusted on this whole planet was Gladiolus. Ignis had-…well Ignis had never seen eye to eye with Gladiolus about her, and though she couldn’t blame him, he had caused a few too many problems for them in her eyes. If she had wanted to betray them and high tail it back to her own home country, she would have done so already. Killed Gladiolus and them while they slept and walked away clean. But she didn’t, nor did she have such thoughts. Her old life, back in her home country was buried and gone. She would never go back there. What…was there to go back to? Nothing. There was nothing to go back to. And so she had to look ahead to this new life that she had gotten. It was hard, adjusting, but she was confident that she could do so.
Stepping out at a fast clip, Kirtana saw the hill and the tree that she had met Gladiolus many times loom before her. Slowing her pace slightly, the young blonde glanced to the side and behind her, wondering why she felt edgy all of a sudden. Was something wrong? Pulling out her phone one more time, Kirtana read the text that had been sent to her. Why hadn’t Gladiolus just called her? And what was so urgent that he couldn’t come over to her place? He knew where she lived, and had come over at different times. So what was the hold up now? Well…when he came, then she could ask him. Until then, Kirtana made her way over to the tree, pressing her back against it and crossing her arms over her chest, resting there easily while she waited for the tall guardian to show up.
The attack came swiftly.
All that there was for a warning was barely distinguishable sounds of movement behind her. Yet, Kirtana was meeting someone, so she shot down the idea of someone attacking her by telling herself that she was still too paranoid. And why shouldn’t she be? It wasn’t like life had handed her any safe moments in life. Still, she stood on edge, peering into the shadows. The figure that walked forward was tall, yes, and build well, but...something about him. It wasn’t Gladiolus. She knew his walk, how he carried himself and his mannerisms. This person was all wrong. Instantly she knew something was wrong. Her sword came out swiftly, but then she was attacked from behind. Whirling around, Kirtana’s sword came up to slice at the figure that had attacked her from behind. The curse and gasp told her that she had gotten her mark.
In that one second of combat, however, Kirtana felt something clasp her neck before something else pinched her skin, taking only a moment before it was gone, and she was left there wondering what had clasped around her neck and what had pinched her skin. Instead of dwelling on it however, she turned quickly once more, jumping up and slamming her feet into the big man. The same general build as Gladiolus, he was nowhere near as strong a fighter. Backflipping, she caught another man by the neck, snapping it and then slamming her sword, - not in the form of a lance – into the ground and whirling around it, kicking the legs out from underneath another man and then following it up by pinning him to the ground with her lance. In a matter of seconds, she had taken down all the men around her. Standing there confidently, Kirtana had no time to think about what might have happened, before she slumped to her knees, feeling dizziness taking over her body. “God…damn it,” came out, desperately whispered, before she struggled to get to her feet. She almost made it before she slumped back to the ground, lying there where she had crumple, reaching out as if to drag herself back up. Blue eyes started to glaze as she saw the feet and legs of some men coming for her. Struggling to stay awake, she could do nothing but stare at the booted feet before the drug that had been injected took over her body.

Gladiolus relaxed back into the sofa that sat in the main living room in the mansion. His arms were folded behind his head as he was sprawled across the cushions with a sleepy look on his face…as he snored like a freight train. He twitched around once or twice but generally kept still, just snoozing for the evening, having fallen asleep here after a long patrol around the city, looking for anything suspicious or that jumped out at him, and after a nice long walk from the mansion, around the city and back, he’d thought a nap would be nice. A nice fifteen minute nap…which had turned into nearly two and a half hours. Hey, couldn’t expect a hefty muscle-man like him to stay awake after such a long day of walking and finding nothing worth his time, the nap was purely out of boredom, out of only a bit of tiredness, but he really hadn’t intended to be asleep all that long, in fact, he’d wanted to spend the evening with a certain blond dragoon, heh…whoops, he was a little late on an evening out on the town.
Feeling something ticklish and feathery touching his face, Gladiolus scrunched his face up tightly, waving a hand towards his face then feeling it again before a few shakes of his arm. “Gladiolus, please awake.” A quiet feminine voice called before he mumbled out some unrecognizable and very sleepy words. “Sir Gladiolus!” Glady’s eyes flickered open as he sat up, looking at a maid standing over him with her hands on her hips, an almost concerned look on her face. “Yeah? Sorry about that, what’s up?” He said rubbing at his eyes and shifting himself to a sitting position, doing anything to wake himself up from that slumber he hadn’t really wanted to fall into. “I thought you had plans with Miss Thrakena…I do believe you’re late.” She advised in a warm tone, which made Gladiolus take to his phone, looking back at the messages he had sent, nothing really looked out of the ordinary, he hadn’t actually made plans with Kirtana, besides, it was like the middle of the night! Why was the freaking night crew getting in on his plans now? All and all, it was confusing. “Ah…I didn’t think I’d made plans with her…I guess she’d be mad at me for not showing up, thanks for waking me up at…” “it’s nearly one, sir.” The maid had responded with a small nod.
Great.
One in the freaking morning and Gladiolus had to worry about whether Kirtana was pissed off at him for not showing up for whatever plans he had forgotten making. As he rubbed at his mullet, getting up to his feet and trailing across the room, pocketing his phone as well…he started for the door, ready to leave and try to track down his pretty blond and make up some sort of clever excuse…like…he had fallen asleep and didn’t wake up until he had a feather duster nearly shoved down his throat? Yeah, that’d totally work! Hopefully he could find her or get a hold of her somehow before she went to bed for the evening, if she wasn’t asleep already. Pulling out his phone again and glaring at the screen at its brightness was irritating his vision. Clicking on Kirtana’s name, he waited for it to ring, but after the first few rings, it went straight to voicemail. With a deep sigh, he tried to remove the sleepy sound from his voice. “Ah, Kirtana…I’m sorry I forgot about our plans tonight. I can honestly say I don’t remember making them…but…I hope you won’t be too mad at me, I fell asleep you know? Just…give me a holler whenever you get this, well…not a literal holler, I’d rather you not yell at me- you know, I’m just gonna go now. Night.” He said before snapping the phone shut. That hadn’t been a completely stupid message, no not at all.
Moving outside, it felt nice outside. It was cool, and Gladiolus decided to take advantage of the nice air. It was then his phone went off, a text message from the woman he had just tried calling. His face fell into that ‘I’m in trouble’ look. He was going to be in the doghouse wasn’t he? ‘Meet me at the park, now. We need to talk.’ Yep, definitely in the doghouse. With a sigh, the larger guardian trudged his way along the city streets towards the park, their usual meeting place. It was quiet, the only sounds he could hear were his own footsteps and the sound of crickets chirping, it was quiet…too quiet, and he didn’t feel comfortable about here. Looking around with his arms folded, he finally decided to break the silence, standing there in the middle of the park and not seeing anyone in sight. “I know you’re mad at me, but I’d probably take the yelling over the disappearing act.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 967 Muse: Great! Eyes opened slowly.
Through fuzzy gaze, the young woman looked above her to see equipment of some sort she didn’t recognize there. Her mouth felt strange too. Dry, she determined. It was too dry. What was making her feel so weird? Licking the roof of her mouth to try and get moisture to come back, she lifted her head, seeing herself in a strange room, and then rested it heavily back against the place she was lying, too dizzy to get up completely.
“Thrakena. Get up.” Swallowing hard, Kirtana recognized the voice of her commander, instructing her to get up. Through weary muscles, she attempted. Gritting her teeth against her aching body, Kirtana opened her eyes and sat up, only to hit the end of something and be forced back down. Swallowing again, she turned her gaze, foggy as it was, down at her wrists. There over her wrists and ankles was chains that were holding her to the bed she was on. Blinking, she peered at them stupidly, yet instantly her brain, as mixed up as it was, tried to piece things together. All she could remember, though, was obtaining the assignment to kill Noctis’ guardian. “Did I fail the mission?”, came her scratchy voice. “Chains?”, she questioned then, wondering what the hell was happening to her. “For your protection,” came the hard voice. Was it just her being paranoid, or was there a certain quality in his voice she hadn’t heard toward her before? It seemed like there was…but she couldn’t place a finger on it.
“You failed, yes, and almost died,” he mentioned. “You’ve been under for weeks,” he said then. Blinking, Kirtana looked up at him again. “The date?” Right after she asked he gave her the date. That matched up with him saying she had been out for some time. Licking her lips, she glanced back down at her bondage. "Release me.", she calmly demanded. Kirtana wondered why he had hesitated thus far. Begrudgingly he did so, but she was intelligent enough to recognize that he seemed to do so roughly, even with her dulled senses. Rubbing her wrists, the young woman didn't take her cutting gaze from the commander as he moved away from her. Right after she sat up and swung her feet off the bed, Kirtana gripped the bed on each side of her, dizziness over taking her to the point of nausea.
"You have a new mission. A second opportunity." Glancing up at him, Kirtana gathered herself, still feeling...strange. Yet there was nothing she could actually place a finger on. Perhaps she was simply paranoid. "What is it?" The next instant her weapon was placed into her hand. "Crush them." Taking her sword wearily, Kirtana rested it against her leg. "Meaning?" "One by one, we'll get them alone. You'll take a select few soldiers you've worked with before and bring them in." The ones he listed were indeed from her part of the soldiers, the elites. "Starting with?"
"The guardian you failed to kill previously," came a new voice. Swinging her gaze toward the new male, kirtana recoiled before jumping to her feet, sword ready to attack. "The Caelum king?!", she hissed out. A moment later the commander dragged her back, an arm around her waist. "Steady Thrakena." Unsure of what she should make of this, she shoved his arm away and straightened herself back up. "What's going on here?", she demanded to know. "You're to take on and destroy the guardians." Kirtana was confused. "The guardians protect your own son, why would yo-" "That is above your pay grade," he said harshly. Kirtana didn't like that, but she bit back her retort and crossed her arms over her chest. "What's going to happen is this..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kirtana didn't quite know why she was even out here. Why did she feel odd about this? Was it because she had no memories of anything besides starting that mission that she had gone on before? Was it because her soldiers were treating her differently then before? Could it be because the commander was acting different? And ever present...why was the Caelum king asking her to kill the guardians of his son? All of these questions in her head were causing doubts. Something...something was wrong. Was she nervous and on edge because she felt like she should know more? Or was it that she hadn't gotten over the foggy feeling that she had had since she had woken? Feeling as if...as if she should know something she didn't. She hated that feeling. Hated it greatly.
But she tried instead to focus on the task at hand. Soundlessly her and her team slipped through the park they were supposed to find the first guardian in. Apparently they had obtained a phone to send him a message where they would be. Unknown to her, was that it was actually her phone they had taken. Something about the park made her think she should know the place. Like...something good had happened here in the past. Still, she had no idea what that would be. Up ahead too, was the lone figure that was standing underneath the tree. This had to be the target. He was, after all, the right height and build for it. Motioning for her companions, Kirtana silently walked out of the shadows from behind him, her soldiers flanking her. "The guardian of the prince..." she started, looking intently at him. Her jaw set then. "I won't fail this time."
Gladiolus was going to be in the doghouse wasn’t he? Kirtana wasn’t that strict or clingy, but he was sure he’d get a nice glare or two, that was enough to conclude that he was in the doghouse…oh well, she’d get over it right? He couldn’t help if he had fallen asleep! He was tired, and she of all people would understand that doing things all day – especially important things that guaranteed Noctis’ safety – would wear him out. She was pretty damn lucky that he had been woken up. The only thing that really did puzzle him was how a maid had known he made plans with Kirtana…when even he himself couldn’t remember asking her to meet him out here to their usual spot. It was a bit sketchy, but he was too dang tired to think that hard about something right now, he never gave it a second thought and simply dragged himself out here as best as he could, even gave her a phone call to apologize! If she was mad at him…then wow.
Making his way into the park this late at night with no light but a single street light to help him from running into things, Gladiolus blinked his dark eyes a few times, hoping to make out figures a little better, but so far he could only see a few trees and even some park benches, nothing all that out of the ordinary. But really, the figure he’d wanted to see was a feminine one, but there was no one here. Perhaps she’d left after so long? Or maybe she was trying to teach him a lesson by having him drag himself out here and then no one showing up. Ohhhh that would be payback wouldn’t it? Narrowing his eyes slightly, Gladiolus folded his arms across his chest and let out a quiet huff of breath as he wandered over near their usual meeting spoke, speaking to the air – or Kirtana – about her having disappeared or something, but hey…whatever, that was her choice. She could be angry all she wanted, at least he was here, right? Damn him for having fallen asleep.
Shaking his head with another huff of a sigh, Gladiolus tapped his foot impatiently against the ground, looking around before pulling his phone from his pocket and checking the time. He’d wait a few more minutes, but then if she didn’t show, then he could go home and go back to sleep. After a few minutes of waiting, Gladiolus threw his arms up in the air and folded them behind his head. “Welp, this was a waste of ti-“ he heard footsteps, though they were silent, he still heard them. Was this the part where she came out and scolded him? Ask him how it felt to wait and get no response? Whatever, he was going to take it like the manly man he was! Maybe. As turned around and looked towards Kirtana, he noticed a few more figures come out of the shadows, ones that looked very much like soldiers…soldier’s that didn’t belong to Noctis or even King Caelum. Okay…so this wasn’t what he’d expected…definitely not a casual meeting, or him being in the doghouse…he knew that much at least.
This sounded like the same old song and dance he’d heard one too many times. When she got the desert fever that was one thing…but he was sure they didn’t have that here…what the heck was going on now? Gladiolus just had bad luck with women didn’t he? Or rather, he had bad luck with Kirtana didn’t he? Taking a step back as he eyed the soldiers more than the woman who was speaking to him like some enemy, he lifted his arms up almost in surrender as his dark eyes then moved to the blonde he’d done a lot to keep by his side…guess that was all going down the crapper now wasn’t it? “So, what happened this time? Have you been playing me all this time? Or did you suddenly come to your senses about which side you belong on? I’d love a good story that I won’t believe.” He said in a pretty sarcastic tone as he dropped his hands again to fold across his chest, narrowing his eyes and waiting. Boy this was going to be good…and a load of bull crap. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 840 Muse: Great! Tagged: Kirtana Wearing: Will link later. I'm lazy. Coming up on the guardian, Kirtana glanced at those that were with her. They were soldiers that had worked under her plenty of times, but something seemed different about them. Really, something felt different about the entire situation. Or maybe she really was overthinking things. It just didn’t feel right, damn it, and she hated that feeling, along with the fact that she couldn’t seem to come out of the fog that she was now under. The doctor that had been in the room after she had been commissioned to kill the guardian had mentioned that she might be like that for some time, but…this long? It didn’t seem right, but she decided to put it out of her head.
Yes, this time she would actually accomplish her commission and put the guardian where he belonged. Not that she had anything really against him, it was just a mission. She didn’t know this man, no, but he was on the enemies side, which meant that she didn’t need to get to know him. Still, as she walked up to him, he seemed a lot more familiar then he should have been. Why couldn’t she remember that last mission? All she could remember was fuzzy glimpses, but nothing concrete, and nothing that actually told her what had happened. Of course she had been slammed around, and of course he had been, that she could realize anyway.
His words too, caused her to stop where she was, her deep blue eyes staring at him. What was he talking about? She was confused to say the least, eyes turning to her companions, wondering if they knew just why he was talking gibberish. Hardening her gaze, Kirtana simply watched him for another moment. “I have no idea what you’re referring to, guardian of Prince Caelum. There has been only one other time I have laid eyes on you. I’ve been told that I failed to do my commission then, though I have no recollection of this,” she said with a shrug. “Thrakena,” came the warning voice of one of her soldiers, yet she put a hand up to stop him from speaking. “Silence.” Hell, she didn’t know herself why she was telling him so much, but something about him…
He’d love a good story? What side was she on? Furrowing her brow, the young woman propped her hands onto her hips and stared at him, not willing to give an inch. “A story? I’m here to take you,” she said calmly. She wasn’t supposed to kill him this time though. No, she was supposed to bring him back to the headquarters. Apparently for some other stage to the step. “Why would you think me here to anything but that?”, her mild surprise was evident. “Thrakena! Enough speaking!”, came the harsh voice. Turning her eyes, she calmly entered into a staring match with the soldier that should know better than to talk back to her, but yet he was doing just that.
Instead she simply scowled her displeasure and turned back toward the guardian, her sword coming into her hands. “Care to come quietly?” This was the last chance. For some reason, she was happy that she didn’t have to kill him. She was sure they could, at least with her elite soldiers, but damn if she wanted to find out what the hell he meant when he said what he had. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 769 Muse:; Great! Gladiolus was far from amused. He stood here in the dark, now facing Kirtana with soldiers backing her up. What sort of game was this to her anyways? How many times had they gone back and forth with this? Gladiolus was tired of going through this routine of her going through her stages of switching sides. This was probably just as ridiculous as ever, putting a rather frustrated look onto his face as well. He looked towards the blonde, practically dismissing the soldiers as they stood at her side. “Can’t even call me by my name.” he muttered out with a slight scowl towards her. This was a ton of bullshit that’s what it was. Maybe the warnings and friendly bits of advice he’d gotten from his pals had been right. Hanging around a girl like this had done nothing but corrupt his mind into thinking he could change her, to keep her from falling back into these ways, but obviously his effort had been wasted. How wonderful of a feeling was that?
It really did feel like Gladiolus was just working for nothing, it probably would’ve been better had she simply started beating with him that weapon of hers. At least he was big and bulky, he could take physical pain, this was just upsetting. Giving her a distinct frown as his arms were folded, he shook his head and simply wanted to laugh at her words. She was pulling this out of nowhere wasn’t she? Did she still have a lingering side effect from Desert Fever? If so, he was screwed. There was no Rosa or Rydia here to assist him, nor was there some magical healing pearl that would help…this just didn’t seem the same as that illness though, she seemed pretty aware of what was going on. It was a shame, he’d thought he’d done well with Kirtana, it was probably time to let go of this one, as much as he didn’t want to. With a deep sigh, he closed his eyes briefly, giving himself a moment to ponder. She wasn’t getting ready for any attacks, and seeing as she was supposed to simply take him in…he could have all the moments he wanted to think about whatever the hell he wanted.
Smirking a bit, Gladiolus still kept his eyes shut, arms folded, his expression generally frustrated and disappointed. “I figured a lot of things would go differently.” He spoke more to himself than anyone before opening his eyes. Would he like to come quietly? Well, yes. He’d like to make this as painless as possible, in fact, he’d like this to not be happening at all. Shaking his head and stretching his arms out now, feeling his muscles loosen, he then popped his knuckles a bit, feeling a bit better, more awake, and…ready for whatever she was going to throw at him, her and her soldiers. As his disappointed expression merely melted away, a look of bitter amusement crossed his features. “I’m anything but quiet.” He informed before taking a step back, if anything, he’d escape before the option to actually cross weapons with her came to be.
“I hope you don’t plan on taking me in tonight, I’ve got other plans to attend to.” He said with that smirk still on his face, taking continuous backwards steps at a slower pace, ready to head back towards the mansion and hopefully…never see Kirtana again. If this was what she wanted, then he was done playing this game. A man could go through only so much and still come back for more. It was time to let go. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 729 Muse: Good! Tagged: Kirtana! Wearing: >> click<< (yes, I finally made something!) Why did this man seem so disgusted that she didn’t call him by his name? “You’re only target one on a file,” she commented dryly. She wasn’t sure why she continued to hesitate, but something told her that it had to do with how bizarre he was acting. As if she should know him, or care. Why he would expect a soldier from a different country, with no history of knowing him, to care was beyond her. But it made her take a step back mentally and evaluate the situation once again. While she did so, she was appalled at how her soldiers were acting. They were acting as if they weren’t under her authority, even though they were, and she constantly felt as if she was in some sort of tug-a-war with them. This had never happened before. Was it because they doubted her abilities after her first time failing a mission? Well, whatever it was, they should know she was in charge, and act according to that.
He puzzled her with everything he said. Why would he expect things to go differently? Opening her mouth to speak, her second in command opened his mouth again to yell at her, but she sent a fierce scowl toward him. “Stand down.”, she bit out, voice edged with a note of anger. Insolent men. Pulling out her weapon, she continued to watch him as he popped his knuckles. She had one question to ask before they took him in. “How did you expect things to go?” Holding her sword loosely in her hands, Kirtana switched her gaze from him to the second in command, who looked like he wanted to jump her. She wasn’t sure what was causing this behavior in him, but she knew that he was probably only held back because he knew she could beat his ass down. Still, this group was the elites, and with herself, there would be no failing.
Then he looked as if he was going to try and escape. With a flick of her wrist, she had sent her soldiers to maneuver behind him, while she took a few steps after him. There was no hint of a smirk or any amusement in her eyes or features, simply steady determination. This was a mission, nothing more, nothing less. Kirtana took another step after him, her features cold, void of emotion. “I don’t think things,” she said calmly. “I do them.” Motioning once more to the soldiers, she lifted her sword and watched him another moment. “You’re coming with us, regardless if you’re in a body bag or walking,” she said calmly. Even though they had told her that they wanted him alive, it wasn’t an empty threat. She had that ability.
Still, she was cautious. She continued to advance as he stepped away, her blue eyes lifting to bore into his, yet she had a dull look to her. Kirtana couldn’t THINK, and that was annoying her. Even though she felt like she should know him, she couldn’t seem to place it, and it was bothering her, along with the fact that she seemed to be in some sort of a fog. “Stop running and face your destiny, guardian.” She was sick of playing games, and so she attacked him.
Post by Gladiolus (Scar) Cicatrix on Sept 27, 2012 18:11:48 GMT -5
Of course things would resort back to this. How could it be a normal week if something terrible didn’t happen? Gladiolus was sick and tired of all of this, it was a real shock to just about anyone why he even came back for more time and time again. Had he simply wanted more trouble weighing down on his shoulders? Perhaps that was it…or perhaps he was stupid, too stupid to realize that people simply didn’t change just for the sake of another person’s wishes. Giving this woman a look of complete disbelief, Gladiolus shook his head slightly in frustration, this was all a big joke wasn’t it? Well if it was, he sure as hell wasn’t laughing. At first he wasn’t really sure what to say or do, he could easily smash these soldiers and head back towards the Caelum residence, but that would leave him unsatisfied, whatever kept pulling him back to stay before was trying to do the same thing again…he couldn’t have that. At some point he needed to let go.
How did he expect things to go? Well, certainly much better than this, but hey, you know what they say. You can’t always get what you want. Shrugging and folding his arms behind his head in a very careless way, Gladiolus continued to face both Kirtana and her lackeys that were stationed at her side. “I just expected them to go in a completely different direction, but that doesn’t matter now, does it?” he said with an arched eyebrow at her, his tone not very friendly, nor was it as harsh and cold as it should be. There was a part of him that longed for her to stay with him, but it just seemed like that wasn’t going to work out, and it was about damn time for him to realize that. Maybe Ignis was right during all of this…how terrible of a friend had Gladiolus been all this time? Guilt was not something he needed to be feeling right now, he could cross that particular bridge once the time called for it, but for now, Glady had other things to worry about, like the woman across from him who was ready to jump him and take him back to wherever it was she came from this time. No doubt Gladiolus wasn’t going down without a fight.
Taking a few slow steps backwards, Kirtana had seen that and instantly he was surrounded. Great, just making this so much more difficult for him. With a deep sigh, Gladiolus continued to remain very relaxed, at least on the outside, as if he didn’t care, he was just trying to keep up his image of not being afraid, and he really wasn’t. He’d faced Kirtana before, he could’ve crushed her if he had a cold enough heart to do so, but whatever. Shrugging a bit at her again, he dropped his arms from behind his head and simply began to plan his next routine. “I guess my saving your life means nothing now, hm?” he said with a slight tilt of his head, but backing off the subject as soon as possible, especially when he tried taking a few more steps back, which simply triggered an attack being fired at him. Digging his feet into the ground as Kirtana came at him, he ducked down to avoid her weapon, he needed to take care of the soldiers then deal with her. Last time he’d fought her like this she was alone, getting rid of the pests was the first thing that needed to be done.
In a matter of seconds, his greatsword appeared in his hand before he started at the closest soldier to him. His eyes moved around quickly, trying to keep Kirtana in his vision as this really was turning into a brawl. The only sad part about this was…he couldn’t find a split second to grab at his phone and call for help. Prompto, Noctis, anyone! This wasn’t going to be easy, that was for damn sure. “So…why am I the lovely little package being delivered this time? Thought your previous goal was to simply rid of the guardians? What’s changed, Thrakena?” he called over the sounds of battle that he himself was initiating by swinging his sword around at the other soldiers, protecting himself and readying the field for when he had to take on Kirtana…yet again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 841 Muse: Great! While she attacked, Kirtana heard what he said about his having saved her. For an instant she almost drew back in surprise, but instead she continued with her actions. Coming down, her attack was deflected and she was thrown to the side. Flipping back, she landed on one bent knee, her blue eyes staring up at him, as if seeing him in a new light. Hell, what was that supposed to mean? He had saved her? Why would he say something like that? It had to be a lie. He was simply telling her an untruth so that she would hesitate. And he had accomplished it, she thought in disgust. He was just telling her that lie to mess with her mind since she couldn't remember any of what had happened before. With a growl, she pushed herself to her feet and gestured for her soldiers to skirt around him, which they promptly did. "I tire of your lies," she snapped out, brandishing her weapon for a moment before lunging at him again.
She could see he was trying to keep an eye on both her soldiers and herself, but no matter who this man was, he couldn't win here. Kirtana brought her sword up in a slashing sweep, attempting to maim him. If possible, she would really like to bring him in while still intact. Unfortunately that might not be an option, as one of her soldiers attacked from the side moments after her own attack. She had no taste for this type of fighting. No, she had never done this before, instead, she had been the soldier that would go after the biggest and baddest of the enemy and bring them to their knees by herself. She really didn't like that they were ganging up on this man, preferring to attack him by herself. Apparently she wasn't strong enough for that though, according to the commander, who had told her of her defeat.
A moment later he asked the question that she wanted to know as well. Why did they want him alive this time, when they had just wanted him dead the last time. Directly after her attack, Kirtana swept her hand up to at least unsettle him, or hope to wound him. He got her to thinking again after he asked the question she wanted to know, and annoyed her that she didn't know. Above her pay grade? What a joke. Flipping away from him, she motioned her soldiers to block any retreat and narrowed her eyes. "I can't answer something I don't know." She was being truthful with that anyway, though it annoyed and worried her slightly that she had no idea what was happening while he made those ridiculous comments like he was, claiming that he had saved her life. As time wore on she felt less like she was in a fog, as if coming out of sleep. The effects of the drug were starting to wear off. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 687 Muse:; Great! Huh, something unexpected…yet somewhat expected. Gladiolus wasn’t sure what he wanted to believe anymore when it came to…well anyone. He wasn’t sure what he could believe, who he could trust – aside from his closest friends – but even now he was putting his trust on the line, and for what? This woman who time and time again had tried to kill him, try to run away, it was too confusing for the big man to wrap around his head all at once. With a shake of his head, dark eyes looking towards the well equipped blonde and her soldier buddies, he simply gave a huff of a breath at her words before shifting his greatsword to his shoulder, holding onto it firmly with one hand. “I could say the same thing to you.” He stated starkly, bluntly, before she had lunged again, causing him to leap backwards, getting nicked very slightly by her weapon across the arm, tearing through the skin and drawing some blood, but it definitely wasn’t his big worry right now.
If Gladiolus wasn’t going to keep moving, then he would become a big mess here shortly. Kirtana was out to kill…or something, it’s what it seemed like with the way she was lunging, leaping and hefting that weapon of hers. Gladiolus just remained on his feet, ready to move to the sides, which he did, avoiding being maimed like some sort of animal, but he wasn’t a ‘light on your feet’ type of guy. He was a fist first-hulk of a man, it wasn’t easy to be so nimble and light as a feather, in fact…it proved to be a challenge. Keeping his balance was one thing, and many times when he’d moved out of the way of some form of an attack, he’d slip, or stumble, or nearly fall back onto his rear, but something in the back of his mind told him it’d be best to land on his feet, than on his ass…unless he wanted to get killed while sitting down. How funny and yet awful would that be?
Looking towards Kirtana as he spoke again, Gladiolus wanted to know what the big change was. Why was any of this happening in the first place? Sometimes he thought back to that fateful day when he’d first come across this elite soldier from the other side of the line…and he wondered why it was he was such…a nice guy – as he had put it to Kirtana numerous times. Why had he saved her? What was the benefit? Apparently it was his downfall, being too helpful and heroic sometimes. It would be complete and total hell to go back to the mansion after all of this and let Ignis have his glory moment of ‘I told you so’. Gladiolus could almost hear it, but…he wouldn’t be hearing anything if he was just going to stand here. No, he wanted to figure this out for himself and correct it, leaving alive with or without Kirtana. That was the only thing that really bothered him. He hadn’t really seen this coming, ever since returning through that portal he’d thought things were going very well. He’d helped Kirtana survive from that desert fever…and she seemed pretty great from then until now.
What had changed?
“You apparently don’t seem to have any recollection about a lot of things. Doesn’t that bother you? Who’s to say I’m lying? What if I’m telling the truth? Then who’s making the mistake? You don’t remember a damn thing and I could have easily crushed you by now. Doesn’t that say something? Anything at all?” He spoke to her, trying to get some reason out of her…but talking his way out of battles, out of life or death situations…that right there wasn’t another strong point of his. Unfortunately, he knew this wasn’t going to end all just because he said something that sounded somewhat decent. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 764 Muse: Great! Kirtana didn’t bat an eye when he threw the lying possibility right back in her face. She continued to tell herself that she didn’t give a damn about his opinions. Deep down though, it annoyed her. She might lie when she had to, but she wouldn’t lie about something like this. No, it was too…close to home. Her own fighting and skills were something she was proud of, and had been her entire life. Besides that, she hated him telling her that she was lying about something when in all honesty, she couldn’t even remember. Damn it, what was that about? Why was he telling her that she was lying, even when she was so positive that she was telling the truth?
It had to be that he was trying to make her doubt herself. If she doubted herself, how could she go into battle and actually beat him? Yes…yes that had to be it. And yet again she told herself that she didn’t care about his opinion either way. But was that true? Perhaps if she was honest with herself, she would realize that she did indeed seem to care about his calling her a liar. It didn’t make any sense, not any, but it bothered her greatly that he was doing this to her. God damn it, what was he trying to pull anyway? Whatever it was, she wished he would stop with his damned mind games. As far as she was concerned, she had come to take him back, and that was what she was going to do, regardless if he wanted to be taken or not. It was her job and she would complete it, regardless of the circumstances. And along with that, she would attempt to ignore the nagging feelings that something wasn’t right about this situation.
And so because she was upset about just why he would make her feel so uncomfortable about the situation, Kirtana attacked. He was fast for such a big man, getting away from her attack with just a nick. While she flipped away and stood staring at him again, she had this feeling that he didn’t want to fight her. Damn it, it shouldn’t be like this! She should be in control of the situation, and instead, she realized instantly that he was the one that was actually in control. And why was he not attacking her back? The blonde narrowed her eyes, waiting for some sort of trick, but the trick never came. That angered her perhaps more than anything. Here he should be attacking her, but he wasn’t. The problem was, she couldn’t seem to think to reason on why he wouldn’t be.
Damn it, here he was, questioning her on the exact thing that got her annoyance too. What if he was telling the truth? What did that even mean? No! “Enough games!”, she said angrily, but a moment later drew back and tried to think. “Thrakena pull yourself together.”, her soldier snapped at her. His insolence just made her flinch slightly. She had so much going on…she couldn’t seem to think, at the most vital moment. No…her commander couldn’t be lying to her. He couldn’t be! Sending her soldier a hard look, she lowered her sword and walked toward him, confident in her soldier’s ability to back her up if he tried to harm her. “If you’re lying,” she started when she had gotten close. “This is deserved.” Hesitating a moment, she stared at him, wondering yet again. “If you’re telling the truth…”, she started, before she whirled around and slammed the butt of her sword into his temple, watching as his body dropped to the ground. Standing over him, Kirtana studied the slumbering man. “Then I’ll figure it out and go from there.”, she whispered softly.
