Every job had its ups and downs. Being an independent merchant meant you didn’t have to deal with an annoying boss, but it also meant that you couldn’t rely on anyone else to take care of you should your sales be off for a while. Being a servant meant having to deal with bratty lords and ladies, but at least you were well taken care of. And yes, even being a king had its ups and downs. You were in charge of everything and everyone would sing your name in praise during good times, in bad times, being in charge of almost everything was far from being a cakewalk though, and today, Edgar was definitely dealing with the downsides of this position. The king quietly pinched the bridge of his nose as one of his commanders rambled on about his findings. For a good while now, these mysterious portals had popped up out of the ground, and up until this day, nobody could really tell him anything about it other than they seemed suspicious. No, that wasn’t entirely true… there was something else that could be said about them, namely the fact that sometimes, they seemed to abduct people to places unknown. It had left the people of Figaro scared and confused, which he couldn’t blame them for, and they had all flocked to the one in charge to fix the problem because who else could they turn to? He understood their concerns, and he was doing all he can to contain the problem by having a decent sized area around the portal sealed off from the public, but the portal’s appearances and disappearances seemed to happen at random. A good number of time now, a portal had vanished before they could even seal off the perimeter, and oftentimes it would just reappear elsewhere again. Their current tactic thus meant to prove incredibly unpredictable, but until they could find out more about their nature, this was the best he could do for the time being.
“Very well commander,” he replied finally as he stood from his seat by the desk, “You have permission to seal that road off for now.” The commander wasted little time, and immediately left to go carry out his duties, leaving Edgar to sit by himself once again. Sealing that road off was kind of risky, because a lot of travelers and merchants relied on that road to get them to and from this kingdom, but a portal had appeared right next to one of the roads, so what choice did Edgar really have here? If he left it open for travelers, they were at risk of being whisked away to wherever those portal lead, of course, sealing it off like this was sure to get certain people’s panties all twisted up in a knot as well. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Such was the life of a man in charge. At least Edgar was used to it by now and could shrug insults directed at his person off with relative ease. But anyway, there wasn’t much else he could do about this portal business for now. The problem was being worked on, and he’d have to wait until he received some more information on the things before he could make his next move. Alright, now that that was out of the way, what else was he supposed to do? The king of Figaro quickly looked through his paperwork and came to the happy conclusion that it was already done. He did stay in late last night to finish up, but he’d honestly expected to have received another load today, what a nice surprise for once!
Rather than staying in his office all day long like he had yesterday, Edgar stepped out onto his balcony for a moment, his eyes peering down at his servants below. They were slacking on their duties… again. It was a good thing their jobs weren’t actually all that important, and they should thank the gods for having been born beautiful, because if these had been male servants or servants with important positions, they’d have been relieved of duty by this point. With a huff, he walked back into his office and quickly scribbled something down on a note before calling a messenger in and sending him on his way. He swiftly made it back onto the balcony and looked down at the lazy lady servants again with a sly grin as he waited for his letter to arrive. Sure enough, it arrived only a few moments later. It was such a shame that he couldn’t hear their words up here, but their confused expressions and the fact they were looking around in a panic to see who could’ve ratted them out were just priceless. The king chuckled quietly when they hastily tossed the note away and giggled to themselves as they went back to work. These people were just so amusing sometimes, and those giggles were always a pleasant sound to his ears.
His expression brightened even further when he spotted a familiar looking person making their way in the direction of the castle. So Terra had decided to come pay a visit, huh? Excellent! He immediately whipped out a pocket mirror and started combing his hair into a more flattering style, ever so often his eyes glanced down to see how close the gorgeous lady was to the castle… during one such glance, he almost dropped his mirror in horror when he noticed his little note to his servants slowly blowing in her direction. Oh crap! No! She wasn’t supposed to read that! Please just let it blow past, please just let it blow past, nice and fast so she wouldn’t even notice it. Everyone was familiar with his womanizing ways, including Terra, but still… how was she ever going to fall head over heels for him when she thought of him as only a perverted boy with too much time on his hands? No doubt she wouldn’t believe him if he (honestly) told her how hard he’d been working this last week and had only taken that one moment of humorous flirting to blow off some steam… Goddamn this breeze for blowing it in her direction, and damn those servants for just tossing it away. That was littering dammit, they were littering his beautiful desert with that paper. Think of the delicate ecosystem of cacti and sand! He’d be sure to give them a stern talking to later.
The plus side was that he hadn’t signed the note, but his handwriting really wasn’t that difficult to recognize as it was uh… fairly… ‘elegant’, for a lack of better words. And the message… “I’m having lunch in thirty minutes, if I can’t eat off the floor when I arrive, spanking will be had.” Who else would write such a bold message if not for Figaro’s dastardly handsome and charmingly confident king Edgar? Maybe it would just blow past… ---------------------------------- Words: 1162 Tagged: Terra Location: Figaro Castle (Balcony) Outfit: Usual Notes: You know that thread I said I’d get up twenty years ago? That was one Figaro down, one more to go, right? Terra was in quite a good mood lately, having ran into Sabin was nice, it was especially nice of him to go fluff moogles with her…it just didn’t seem like anything he’d have interest in doing, but to be a little unfair on Terra’s part, she had unleashed the saddest looks of all time to try and get him to join her on her moogle fluffing adventure. It was just a chance to have a bit of fun! To get her mind off those dreams and to just feel a bit carefree for once. She was pretty sure Sabin enjoyed himself…even if the cute little moogles were intimidated by his size and the fact of how loud that booming voice of his was, still, in time the moogles had warmed up to the big teddy bear, all he really needed to do was follow Terra’s advice when it came to moogles. She was the expert…but…anything about today could not be repeated, especially to the one she was on her way to see.
If Edgar got word of his big strong brother playing with moogles…that would be a reputation dead and buried within a few seconds.
Terra had promised Sabin she wasn’t going to say anything, as far as she knew, her friend was on his way to the dojo down south…it was the perfect opportunity to visit Edgar, give Sabin some time to himself and just be able to mingle, not that she had much of a purpose for visiting, it was somewhat of just a social visit. Just to see how things were going, to make sure all was well and make sure that her friends still knew she was okay and not in any sort of trouble. With a bit of a bounce in her step, the blond haired moogle-lover could see the castle in the distance, this…desert wasn’t exactly the best thing for her, it was quite warm outside…but here in a few minutes she’d be waltzing into the castle doors and hoping to find Edgar not completely swamped with Kingly duties or whatever it was he did these days, womanizing maids or something along those lines. Terra wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest with anything when it came to Edgar, but hey…you never know? He could be doing something completely productive and not perverted, the chances of that though were pretty much slim to none, after all…this was Edgar we’re talking about.
With her mind a bit distracted, gazing at the castle at it grew in size with each step forward taken, Terra felt something like paper smack her in the face. In a quick moment, she shook her head and flung and hand towards her face to flick the paper away. Turning and watching it fly off into the breeze, she frowned only slightly before shrugging her shoulders and not thinking anything of it as she started off again. Who would just litter like that? Whoever it was really needed to learn how to pick up after themselves, but she wasn’t going to start into lecture mode or anything, this was a pleasant visit after all. Blue eyes gazed upwards towards the balcony of the castle, and there she could easily see the form of Edgar, standing there and…what, looking at the scenery? Or had he noticed her arrival? Stepping with a quicker pace, Terra got into calling distance and felt a smile form on her lips. Looking up and planting her feet so that she stood at a good distance, able to be seen clearly and heard if she yelled loud enough. Putting her hands towards her mouth to make her voice seem louder than normal, she, for some odd reason, rose up on her tip toes, as if the extra inch or two would make her words easier to hear. “Edgar! I see you up there gazing at the scenery!” she spoke loudly, her voice making a slight echo, but she was sure the king would be able to hear her.
“Are you busy? Or…have I come at a bad time?” she called again, lowering herself back to the ground as she waited, clasping her hands behind her back, her eyes still drawn to the balcony, waiting for an answer, hopefully her timing was good, if he was busy, she would understand…but then again…all the traveling she’d done to get here, it would’ve been a waste of time really. But hey, you know Edgar, always making time for this, that, and the other thing. Oh and women, can’t forget women. Words: 886 Muse: Great! Of course she wasn’t going to see it! There were so many places that innocent piece of paper with the less than innocent writing on it could blow off to, there had to be a one in two million chance that it would end up right before her feet, and even then, what were the chances of Terra actually looking down to see the paper and get curious enough to read it. And even then there was a chance she wouldn’t put two and two together and realize that Edgar was the writer of that note. He was going to be fine… the odds were in his favor here, nothing to worry about. Nothing at all. The king of Figaro sighed in relief over his mental pep talk and pocketed his mirror once again, when he looked down… he just wanted to fling himself off this balcony, because there was no way in hell that he could continue living on when fate hated him with such a burning passion. Rather than flying up to her feet and resting there, waiting for the cute blonde to pick it up and read it, the note had decided that doing so would leave too much room for error, so instead of doing that, it had merrily blown up into her damned pretty face instead! It was literally in her face, blocking her view. This had to be some cruel joke – a dream, or a nightmare rather that had spawned from too much work and not enough play. How could something like this even happen for real? The odds had been in his favor! “Ooooh Goooods,” Edgar whimpered as he dropped his forehead onto the handrail before him. Well, there went his chances of ever wooing Terra Branford. Thanks a lot lady luck, thanks a lot, you cold heartless skank of an imaginary entity!
One of his eyes peeked over his arms to watch the drama unfold before his very eyes, and what it spotted made Edgar’s heart skip a beat as he pushed up and gazed down at the woman as she… slapped the paper away from her face rather than reading it? Could it be? Say it is so! His scowl-frown-glare instantly turned into a wide grin as he looked up towards the heavens, sobbing out the words “Thank you… thank you, I am forever in your debt!” Lady Luck still loved him after all. Of course she did, all the ladies loved Edgar. Except maybe Celes, but even that ship hadn’t sailed just yet. He could get her to warm up to him eventually, he just knew he could! But Celes was already taken, and thus she was automatically placed on a lower tire of desirability. Terra however, was to his knowledge still single, which gave her a massive boost on that same ranking system. In fact, she was pretty much at the top. When he heard her call something about the scenery, he sobbed another quiet thank you to the gods above before waving down at his guest, “Terra! What a lovely surprise!” he called down with a sincere smile, “Nonsense my lady, no time is ever a bad time to see you! Please, come on inside, I shall meet you downstairs!”
He waited for confirmation before walking back inside with a smile so wide that he was pretty sure his face was going to crack soon. He needed to look more stoic when he came downstairs, women loved mystery, and what was more mysterious than a stoic facial expression? Edgar knew this game, and he knew it well. Today would be the day he’d swoop that lovely blonde off her feet like only a king of Figaro could. Aww yeaah, he could do this! He was freaking Edgar Roni Figaro! If he couldn’t do it, then nobody could! By the time he made it out of his study, through the hallways and down the stairs, he had managed to wipe his massive grin off his face and had painted a pleasant little smirk there. Hell yeah, happy yet mysterious. This was going to be his lucky day, he just knew it. As he walked down the final staircase, and Terra’s form came into view, he opened his mouth once again to speak. “My lady Terra, to what do I owe this wonderful pleasure?” he asked as he stepped up to her and grasped her hand, placing a quick kiss on it before offering her his most charming smile ever, “Might I be so bold as to say you look especially radiant today?” ---------------------------------- Words: 763 Tagged: Terra Location: Figaro Castle Outfit: Usual Notes: He's going to cry if she's here to tell him about her new boyfriend.

The paper having flown into her face hadn’t really caught Terra’s attention. She saw a bit of writing on there, but it wasn’t her place to go snooping as to what was actually said, thus…swiping it away from her face and letting it continue to drift on in the wind. She probably should’ve gone after it, picked it up and thrown it away, but…it was already long gone by now. Next time though, she’d be sure to go on litter patrol. Continuing onwards though, it wasn’t difficult to spot Edgar on one of the balconies from the castle. At least he was here and not off doing whatever it was he usually did away from the castle, it was better than coming here and not seeing anyone. Luckily she’d already seen Sabin on her way, but after some hardcore moogle fluffing and walking towards the Dojo, she decided to leave him be and let him do his own thing, Edgar was just the next target on her list of people to see.
A lovely surprise, that sounded exactly like Edgar. He must’ve been in a good mood, better than what Sabin had said about him being grumpy. See! In time he would’ve gotten over whatever his brother had done and become cheerful once more…or at least not grumpy, otherwise Terra would’ve had to set him straight. Tell him to get over being a sourpuss and just let some things go. But luckily, Terra wouldn’t have to go into one of those types of talks, and besides, she was a lady, that sort of thing also usually brought a smile to Edgar’s face as it was, oh well, that’s just who he was, and it was nice how people like Terra, Celes and even little Relm accepted him for it. Ah, poor Relm, it was a good thing she was like…ten, and not having to deal with boys just yet, boys – or men – like Edgar. But sooner or later, that little girl was going to be in for a shock as to the real world! Terra sure had been, she wanted to know what love was…but…for real, not just an ‘in the moment’ thing…she wanted to be able to have emotions for someone, real emotions.
“Okay! I’ll see you inside.” She called before turning her gaze towards the doors that led into the castle. Trotting quickly towards the indoors, the small blonde stood in place after just getting into the doors, looking around and clasping her hands together, her intertwined fingers playing with the sash around her waist as she took a few more steps inside, slowly, but letting her eyes wander around the castle once more, looking at the majestic structure, the unique style it had, it was very pretty and nice on the inside. It was then, footsteps grabbed her attention, and she stood in place, her hands clasped together still as her eyes just followed Edgar, giving him a small smile in return, especially as he spoke. Yep, definitely in a better mood than Sabin had described. “I had been heading this way for awhile.” She started before Edgar flew into his ‘giving Terra a compliment’ phase. Taking her hand and kissing the top of it, how gentleman like…how…Edgar-like.
With a small widen of her smile, Terra let a sheepish sigh escape her lips as she pulled some of her curly blonde bangs from her face, moving them behind her ear, trying to gather her words again, why she was here? “Thank you for the compliment, Edgar. You look quite well yourself.” A return compliment of sorts? It was only polite. “I ran into Sabin just south of here actually. He was heading to the Dojo, said you were on the…grumpy side.” She admitted with a sheepish little laugh before shifting her weight around a bit, getting comfortable once more, gazing at Edgar with a pretty cheerful look. “I suppose I sidetracked him a bit though, all that moogle fluffing we did- I mean…I did…yes, me. Heh. But, I suppose I didn’t have a real reason for heading up this way, just…wanted to stop in and see how you were doing.” She said, hoping to have covered up her words about Sabin going moogle fluffing with her. Didn’t he have like…a reputation to live up to? Whoops. The cat was out of the bag now…oh well, Edgar was Sabin’s brother! He wasn’t going to make fun of him- no, he was, he really was. Edgar was always happy to see his friends, especially when he’d been so caught up with his work that he barely had time to relax at all. His friends managed to make him feel better, somehow, and thus it was no surprise that the king of Figaro was most pleased to see Terra appear at his doorstep. Of course, the fact that she was a lady friend didn’t hurt matter whatsoever, in fact, it only brought him in an even cheerier mindset than he’d already been in after writing his servants that note and watching them hurry off to go carry out their duties. And Terra was a pretty lady friend too, so what more could a man ask for? On his way downstairs, he heard a few guards and servants chuckle and gossip about how their king was on another woman-hunt and quietly making bets amongst themselves as to whether he’d succeed this time or not. While he was quite the charmer, even a king didn’t always succeed in his goals, and Edgar really was no exception to that rule. He’d never managed to get his old teacher from way back in his teenage years to fall for him, for example, and Celes didn’t seem impressed either. There were more examples, but those were the more important ones. Even so, he still believed that he could make them swoon at some point. They didn’t have to fall in love, after all, they were both taken by other men and that was a bridge he never crossed, but what harm was there in making them blush a little?
But all of that could wait until later, for now, his attention was fully focused on his newly arrived guest; Terra Branford. He had to admit that she was a pretty interesting person on top of being drop-dead gorgeous, so naturally, Edgar’s only wish for this day was to capture the fair maiden’s heart before someone else could. That was… unless someone already had. The king pursed his lips a little as he wandered over to the last staircase, pondering that thought. It would be really unfortunate if she’d stopped by to tell him about her latest (or first, for all he knew) heartthrob. That would just be like a kick in the face for a man like himself. But oh well, he’d wait and see. Most likely she’d just come over for a quick visit. After all, at the end of the day, they were first and foremost friends. And friends stopped by just to say hi all the time. So he wiped that sour look off his face and stepped back into the role of the charming king as he greeted her as warmly as was humanly possible. “Oh really?” he smirked a little when Terra told him she’d been heading this way for a while now, that was nice to hear! It was nice to know people hadn’t forgotten him now that their journey together had come to an end. Of course Sabin wouldn’t forget about him, what with them being not only brothers, but twins to boot, but the rest? He hadn’t seen them in a while, so he’d honestly believed for a while that they’d all gotten too busy with their own lives to think about him every once in a while. He couldn’t have really blamed them either, after all, he was quite busy with his own life as well. “I speak only the truth, of course,” he let go of Terra’s hand and took a step back to give her some personal space, bowing his head lightly at her compliment, “And thank you, as well, Terra.”
The king chuckled slightly when she mentioned having run into Sabin earlier, “Ah, good old Sabin… I’m afraid he was correct in his assessment,” he admitted, shaking his head slightly, ”I’ve had a lot on my mind lately… it has left me in a less than pleasant mood, I fear. Sabin usually knows to ignore me when I am in such a mood, though. He didn’t seem upset, did he?” he inquired with genuine concern. Sabin was a tough guy, and he knew Edgar better than anyone else in this world, so he assumed he’d be fine despite having some snappy comments thrown his way, but you never knew. Maybe he’d said something that had genuinely hurt his big lug of a brother, and that just wouldn’t do. He’d have to apologize later, if that was the case. The slight frown that had managed to snake its way onto the king’s face soon faded when Terra told him of the day she’d spent with his brother. They’d gone… moogle fluffing? Edgar couldn’t stop the amusement from reaching his eyes, and they soon sparkled brightly with amusement and mischief. “Oh, I see,” he replied, his laughter threatened to spill out at any given moment. Terra soon realized her error and tried to patch things back up, but it was already too late for that. Edgar knew she’d spoken truthfully… she and Sabin really had gone and fluffed up the moogles in South Figaro. What a wonderful piece of information to possess… of course, Terra playing around with the hairballs wasn’t really shameful at all. Firstly, she was a woman, and women could get away with nearly everything in Edgar’s eyes. Second, she was cute, and cute women… you know the rest. Sabin on the other hand, was neither a woman, nor cute. Even if he had been, Sabin would’ve been Edgar’s twin sister, and that automatically would’ve made her unattractive to him. “That’s too kind of you, I am well, how about you?” he asked in a surprisingly un-Edgar like casual tone. He couldn’t help it. Just that mental image was enough to make even the most serious of men smirk in amusement. “If I may ask…” his voice remained strained as he tried hard to keep a straight face at the thought of his brother frolicking through a flower field while cuddling a moogle, “Is Sabin any good at… at fluff-“ his voice went shrill near the end, and just hearing his own voice break like that brought out a fit of laughter that he hadn’t had in quite a while. ---------------------------------- Words: 1565 Tagged: Terra Location: Figaro Castle (Balcony) Outfit: Usual Notes: Imagine that last line to go like this "Fluffftffffftffffhrtghbbn" because he's pretty much dying over that mental image. Terra felt pretty good about being here. It was nice seeing the faces of those she knew and liked well. Having already ran into Sabin, it seemed as if she was simply going down the list of people she knew, next thing she’ll run into either Celes or Setzer somewhere down the road. With a smile still lingering on her lips as she gazed towards the second of the two Figaro brothers she had ran into, she folded her hands together, keeping up her tiny bit of conversation and remembering the moogle fluffing lessons she’d pretty much given Sabin. You couldn’t be LOUD and rough with moogles, otherwise they’d flee – or waddle behind Terra, whichever worked best – but Terra had done her best to show him the ropes, how to gently speak to them and give them the right love they needed, and of course how to fluff them properly. These days moogles just didn’t get the best care, some even chose to throw them! How could one be so cruel-
Her mind was obviously on the moogles.
Blinking for a second and focusing back on the conversation at hand, Terra gave Edgar a small nod, blonde curls bouncing as she did so. “He was fine, chuckled about it actually. I told him you’d get over whatever had brought upon such an attitude, and he was pretty convinced of the same as well.” No way she’d ever want the two brothers angry with one another, and it seemed that no matter what happened, there were no awkward moments, no tension between them, that was nice…to have someone to watch your back, to have someone you could call family. “He seemed pretty cheerful actually, you know, like he always is? Nearly ran me over though.” She shrugged her shoulders lightly, giving a half hearted laugh through her lips as she had spoken, thinking about how she’d nearly become road kill thanks to that bear of a man.
Terra had slipped up though, she’d spoken about the moogles…more specifically, the moogle fluffing. She wasn’t supposed to say anything and immediately she’d caught herself, trying to backtrack her words and make it sound like she was the only one who had fluffed the little creatures, after all, it was like…a hobby for her anyways. Trying to correct herself – to save Sabin’s pride or something – Terra then added a sheepish grin before trying to turn the topic in a different direction, obviously it wasn’t going to fool Edgar though, her attempt had been defeated, and she knew it. At least she’d changed the topic easily though, her attempts hadn’t been a complete loss. “It’s good to hear you are well, I have been quite alright myself…just wandering around I suppose.” She commented, her eyes cutting down to the floor once he started to ask about the fluffing. Yep, she’d failed, and she really REALLY hoped Sabin would forgive her for this little slip up. It was an honest mistake…she hadn’t meant to let the words loose, but hey, worse things have happened, right?
Feeling her shoulders slump a bit, the blonde sighed heavily, running a hand through her blonde curls, twisting her fingers around the ends of her hair to try and find the words that would both make Sabin appear in a more…manly light to his brother, and would please Edgar’s overflowing amusement. “He’s okay at it.” She commented pretty bluntly before continuing onwards, pulling herself into a proper stance, back straight and shoulders back. “Scared the little guys at first, but after a few words of advice from yours truly, he’s a little better.” She said before shaking her head some, Edgar was enjoying this wasn’t he? With a slight frown appearing on her face, she folded her arms across her chest and shifted her weight around, giving him almost a stern and very…unamsused look. “Don’t you go picking on him for it though. I’m sure you would have done the same had some lovely lady asked you to go moogle fluffing, is that not so?” she said, adding a bit of a smile to her lips, raising an eyebrow and tilting her head slightly. He couldn’t deny that one…maybe. If Terra had asked Edgar to go moogle fluffing…would he have gone? Words: 845 Muse: Great! Sabin hadn’t felt offended by Edgar’s snide comments from earlier that day, thank goodness. He hadn’t really believed that his bear of a brother would be hurt by simple words that he knew in his heart hadn’t been said with the desire to upset him. Sometimes, Edgar just felt moody, he really couldn’t help it. He was an adult, yes, and he should be able to deal with the stress of his work. And he could, but it was a lot of responsibility for one man to have, and even someone as positive and outspoken as Edgar had days when he just wanted to lie down and tell everyone and anyone to get the hell out of his face and leave him alone. It was only human nature to have bad days every once in a while, wasn’t it? He couldn’t really be blamed for it so long as it didn’t happen too often. His casual flirting usually tended to be a nice distraction, something that would help him forget about some of the difficulties he faced in life, and when Sabin had just so casually walked in and ruined his talk with a lady after he’d already had a long, tiresome and annoying day, Edgar had just snapped at his brother. He hadn’t said anything particularly nasty, but he had been pretty pissed for a while. He was all over it now, but boy had he been ready to strangle Sabin at the time. It was a good thing he’d left to go visit his master at the dojo, because they would’ve likely argued more, had he stayed. “Ah, good… I hate seeing him upset. Makes me feel like a real monster, you know? It’s kind of like kicking a puppy, although it’s a very large puppy in this case,” he sighed and then quieted down a little to listen to the rest of Terra’s words. He’d nearly ran her over? Why did that not surprise him at all? Sabin really did have all the finesse of an elephant. “He’s always been like that, always with his head in the clouds, and never watching where he walks. He didn’t hurt you, did he?” he asked in a rather casual and lighthearted tone. She was standing here and talking to him, so she couldn’t have been hurt that badly, otherwise she wouldn’t be talking and smiling the way she was. Gods, Terra really did have the prettiest smile. He couldn’t help but smile back whenever she showed him one.
Of course, then the topic changed to Sabin and his odd hobby that Edgar had never known about, and for a moment, he couldn’t bother with trying to be charming. When it came to Sabin, Edgar had always been like a little kid, laughing and poking fun of stuff like this. It was alright though, because Sabin did it too. If he could get away with ridiculing his brother, then why shouldn’t Edgar be entitled to a few jokes here and there at his expense? “That’s great to hear,” he replied, his voice going more shrill with amusement with each word he said. He’d tried to pretend to be the bigger man here; the brother who would accept his sibling the way he was without judging, but there was no denying it anymore now that his smile threatened to crack his face, and the air in his lungs was violently trying to fight its way out of his throat through laughter. Edgar wasn’t a bigger man. He loved this stuff just as much as any other brother would. “I’m so glad to hear that!” he laughed loudly, covering his face with his hands as he conjured up another mental image of Sabin and his moogles, the image brought forth more laughter, and his entire body was shaking as he at least tried not to cackle as loudly as he did. “Oh gods…” his voice was muffled by his hands, but it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how he was feeling right now, which was pretty darn good. “Sabin the moogle fluffffff-” he dropped his hands back to his sides as he openly laughed at the big lug and his moogles, “I would’ve paid good coin to see that!” he snorted, but then his eyes landed on Terra again, and his smile instantly decreased into just a slight, confused smirk. Ho boy, she didn’t look too pleased, did she feel offended because he laughed at the art of moogle fluffing? But he wasn’t even laughing at her! Fluffing moogles was just fine… if you were a cute girl and not some massive bear of a man. Well, no, even then it was fine, but it did make for a hilarious mental image… and an amazing source of blackmail.
“Uh…” he started awkwardly before Terra cut her off with her reasons for being seemingly upset with him, and Edgar couldn’t help but sigh a little in relief. Alright, so she wasn’t exactly all that mad at him after all. That was good, because he truly hadn’t meant to offend, and it would’ve really sucked if she’d gotten mad enough to leave so soon after getting here. He would’ve felt pretty bad about that. “But that’s what brothers do! They make fun of each other!” he countered with a mock frown, “Sabin makes fun of me all the time.” But wait… had he just heard that correctly? Oh Terra, never ever talk to this king about what Edgar would’ve done had he been in a situation – any situation – with a lovely woman. Crossing his arms and quirking one eyebrow in amusement, he cleared his throat a little before answering the question, “Well, that all depends on who the lovely lady in question is, Terra,” he smiled at her mischievously, “I wouldn’t just shove my pride and dignity aside for just any lady, but for you, I would most certainly make an exception.” Which was, shockingly enough, the truth. He wouldn’t go moogle fluffing with Celes, or even his maids. They were all quite lovely, but he wasn’t so sure if he’d be willing to go through that much trouble for them. Terra was a nice girl though, and even if he was most certainly interested in her, he also considered her a friend. And yes, he would’ve gone moogle fluffing with her, had she asked. Maybe he really shouldn’t blame Sabin for having taken the offer and ran with it, because Edgar would’ve done the same. But… oh, who was he trying to fool? Even if the situation was completely understandable, he was still going to make fun of his brother for it. Like he said, there was a law between brothers that dictated they had to mock each other for stuff like this, and Edgar was, after all, a law-abiding citizen. ---------------------------------- Words: 1141 Tagged: Terra Location: Figaro Castle Outfit: Usual Notes: I should make him genuinely interested in her, and make him frustrated because he's flirted with so many girls in the past that nobody takes him seriously anymore even when he is serious. Terra was pretty much all smiles now. She enjoyed the company of her friends, and she was also pleased to pass on the news that Sabin wasn’t upset with Edgar. There wasn’t anything fun about family being mad at one another, even though Terra couldn’t necessarily relate, she could certainly agree. She hated being mad at anyone, and it was easy for her to forgive certain people, but sometimes you had to hold onto a grudge, should the circumstances be past a certain extent. Like…if for some reason Kefka came back, anger would boil under her skin, there would be no forgiveness to people like him, but to her friends, it was a completely different story. Feeling a small laugh escape her lips, she placed a hand towards her lips and gave a small nod. “I don’t think Sabin could ever remain angry with you, Edgar. No matter what. That’s the glory of family.” She shrugged, still not being able to speak on experience, but whatever, it was the truth and she knew that.
“No, he didn’t hurt me. Moved just in time before I became squashed.” She grinned cheerfully, almost amused in a way as she remembered her own reaction being as if a real elephant was about to run over her, but luckily she’d been avoided before being ran over. Speaking of Sabin, goodness…speaking of him being angry…ha. The irony was almost going to kill Terra, if Sabin didn’t get to her first. She’d spilled the beans, the horrible reputation ruining beans, and to the worst person possible. Sabin had gone moogle fluffing, and Terra was going to keep quiet about that, just because she was a good friend, but she’d slipped up, and instantly she wanted to make Edgar promise he wasn’t going to say anything, but that’d be the biggest challenge she’d ever have to face, there was probably no way to keep him quiet about the fluffing. This was going to be…complicated.
Feeling her cheery smile fade a bit as she spoke briefly about Sabin and the moogle fluffing, the cat was already out of the bag, no sense in hiding it, especially when Edgar looked as cheery and amused as he was right now…oh well, Terra would say she was sorry later to Sabin, unless the king actually kept his mouth shut like she was going to request of him. Seeing him laugh so hard at her words though, Terra felt a sigh escape her lips as she folded her arms across her chest, her eyes darting to the side as they narrowed, putting a slightly uninterested look on her face. Okay if he was going to keep this up, she was going to have to get demanding. Giving the king of Figaro a mighty stern look, she heard him quiet down and that was a good sign. “I don’t care if he makes fun of you or not, shouldn’t you be the better role model? You are a king, are you not?” she said raising an eyebrow and tilting her head, coming to Sabin’s defense wasn’t easy, but she was doing well so far and not backing down!
At his response to her question, Terra felt an awful smirk form on her lips, narrowing her eyes some more. Yep, that was typical Edgar. With a sweet smile replacing the smirk as she took one step closer towards Edgar. “Looks like Sabin already beat you to it though.” She said cheerfully, almost too cheerfully as she then took a step back and waved a hand around. “Fine fine, pick on him all you like, just remember if anyone gets in trouble it’s me.” She said with a small shrug of her shoulders, not worrying too much about the matter at hand, but even still…she’d like there to be a lack of apologies on her part, if Edgar could keep his mouth shut. Now that he thought about it, he couldn’t remember the last time he and Sabin had been genuinely mad at one another. Maybe back in the old days, when they were still kids fighting over a toy? It had to be around that time, because he couldn’t remember any recent arguments between the two of them, there were quarrels every once in a while of course, but that was only natural. Bickering back and forth was necessary sometimes to keep a relationship healthy, or so he’d been told. “Nor could I stay angry at him,” Edgar added with a smile, “Not for long anyway, I have certainly been upset with him before though,” he was sure Sabin had moments where he wanted to strangle the life out of his brother as well, but so long as they could get over whatever difference they were having, that was all that mattered in the end. So far, he and Sabin had done a pretty damn good job at keeping a steady friendship, and that when both of them lived completely different lives. Quite the accomplishment, if you asked Edgar. “You kind of get used to dodging with him around,” the king shrugged in reply. Terra wouldn’t be the first to almost get run over, and she certainly wouldn’t be the last. Sabin couldn’t help it either, he was just so damn huge that everyone else looked smaller than an ant to him, Edgar imagined, and it wasn’t like Edgar constantly stared at the ground to make sure he didn’t accidentally squash the insects. “Back when we both still lived here together, he ran me over all the time too. I’ve had so much practice jumping aside for Sabin, I could dodge bullets nowadays, no big deal.” Bullets might be pushing it, but eh, details.
The warm, fluffy talking about your sibling moment came to an abrupt end when Terra informed him of what she’d been doing lately. Fluffing moogles, that wasn’t really a big deal for a cute girl, for a huge guy though? Try as he might, Edgar couldn’t keep himself from almost laughing himself to tears over the mental image of his brother chasing a ball of fur across a field with Terra running after to give him instructions in his impossible task. The added bit of information about how Sabin had actually been really good at it only added gasoline to the enormous wildfire of amusement the king of Figaro already felt, and with every bit of information she added to the story, he felt himself laugh a little harder. Poor Sabin, he couldn’t resist the puppy eyes, could he? Edgar had to admit to himself that, if Terra had come to him with the same invitation, he wouldn’t have even hesitated before saying yes, but then… Edgar was Edgar, he had very little shame when women were involved. Sabin had more class, usually… not lately though, it seemed. Terra wasn’t even a tenth as amused as Edgar was. What a pity, they could’ve had a good laugh over this, but oh well. Just because Terra wasn’t laughing didn’t mean Edgar couldn’t. And he did. Loudly. That is, until the little lady started lecturing him about how he shouldn’t make fun of his brother, and how he should set the right example and yadda. Edgar just stared at her when she told him all those things, occasionally he threw up an argument in his own favor, but he didn’t fight her too much on this. When she seemed to be finished, he merely shrugged his shoulders a little, “Perhaps so,” he sighed before leaning back on his ankle and looking up at the majestically decorated ceiling of his castle.
Terra was probably right, if anyone needed to be mature about this, it was Edgar. But life around here was so dreadfully boring without moments of reprieve like these. That was something most people just didn’t understand, how could kings or queens get bored? They had money to spend, and power to wield over others, but they also had to be responsible enough not to abuse either of those powers. They always had to be serious about state affairs, because a kingdom couldn’t be ruled on whim alone. There was a lot of work and a lot of thinking involved. Edgar wanted, no… needed to be able to laugh and joke and flirt and whatnot every now and then, otherwise he’d go crazy. He’d become one of those sour lords who never left their chambers and yelled at their servants because they thought they were worthless. Edgar was a bit of an oddball every now and then, but at least he was good to his people, and his kingdom, and even Sabin despite the occasional jab here and there. He wasn’t about to tell Terra any of that though, nor would he tell Sabin or anyone else about it. This was the life he’d chosen, and there was no turning back, and so long as he could hold onto the more lighthearted moments of fun, he could easily endure it. What he couldn’t endure though, was Terra’s heartless playing with his feelings by rubbing it in that Sabin had gone moogle fluffing with her before him. The slightest frown started to appear on his lips, but as soon as he caught himself, he quickly turned it into an exaggerated pout. Can’t let her win this one, Edgar ol’ boy. “Indeed,” he mumbled, crossing his arms and glancing down at the floor for a moment. Some guys had two kinds of pride; regular pride, and man pride. Terra had just firmly stomped her tiny little foot on his man pride, and now he was trying to cover it up, but that was easier said than done. “The most important thing is that you had a good time, whether that was with Sabin or with me doesn’t matter.” Nice safe Edgar, or at least it was a nice attempt at a nice safe, whichever. “About what you said… you are correct, of course,” he finally sighed and nodded in agreement, “Perhaps I should work on becoming more mature,” that was actually a good idea. He wondered how long it would take before everyone begged him to go back to his old, sometimes stupid self if he acted all mature all the time. People wouldn’t know what hit them! But… what if they actually liked new Edgar better than old Edgar? That was a bit of a dilemma, because this whole plan was centered around the idea that people would want him to change back, he never intended to stay mature. His eyelids dropped for a short while as he pondered that idea and the faults in his plan, but after a while he just gave up and decided to further work it out later, if he ever did decide to scare people with a new and improved Edgar. “Would you care for some tea?” he asked suddenly, “I was about to have lunch when you showed up, and I would certainly enjoy your company.” ---------------------------------- Words: 1182 Tagged: Terra Location: Figaro Castle Outfit: Usual Notes: Poor jealous Edgar and his damaged man pride.

Edgar always made good company…even if he did flirt and flock after anything with a pretty face, unless that pretty face was that of a man…let’s just go with…he wandered after any and all ladies it seemed like, but even still, he was a great guy and Terra enjoyed his company just as much as any of her other companions. Listening to Edgar speak, Terra definitely approved of the fact that the two Figaro brothers couldn’t really stay mad at one another. If there was anything she’d learned over her time with all of her friends, Celes, Locke, the whole bunch, it was that those close to you needed to remain that way, you couldn’t let something stupid and silly put a wedge in that friendship, it just wasn’t worth the price of losing someone so amazing to something so silly and unnecessary. It seemed that they’d been taking that sort of thought to heart, and Terra’s smile showed how genuinely pleased she was with Edgar’s words about his brother.
Having given a lecture – as much of a lecture as someone like Terra could give – she had became quiet, awaiting for the king’s response, and it seemed that she’d won this battle. Somewhere deep in her heart though…Terra knew that boys would be boys and poking fun at one another was almost necessary. She put a warm smile on her face as she looked towards Edgar who seemed to be looking towards the ceiling. “If it’s any consolation, I’m pretty sure my own laughing at the time has been enough for him to handle.” She admitted sheepishly before putting a hand to rub the back of her neck, her own eyes diverting off into a different direction. It had been quite the sight, and it was a huge effort on Terra’s part to teach him so well, but whatever! No one could ever fully appreciate the art that was moogle fluffing, and it was about time that the blonde girl accepted that.
Watching him though, Terra was sure she’d just shot some sort of man-pride that Edgar had, and that seemed like a difficult thing to do. It brought a slight frown to her face as she watched him, listened to him speak before tilting her head and placing her hands on her hips. Finally, once he was done speaking, she stepped forward and patted his shoulder. “Don’t think you need to change, I was just…messing with you, Edgar. I would never wish for any of my friends to change, you especially. Don’t want to lose your charm now, do you?” she asked with a slight formation of a smile on her lips before she patted his shoulder once more and did what she could to bring up his mood a bit, she was pretty good at spotting these things. Stepping back though, she continued to give Edgar a small sincere smile, especially when he spoke up again, asking her about tea and such. Giving a nod, Terra would find it nice to get a chance to sit and converse with him over a cup of tea and what not. “That would be delightful, Edgar. Thank you.” She said with a wider grin, thoroughly pleased, and hopefully his mood picked up a bit as well! Otherwise Terra was just going to have to be overly silly trying to cheer him up.
