Was it really like that? Was that what happened ten years ago? It was racing through Relm’s mind, and she didn’t understand it at all. How did she know that what she was told was true, and not a pack of lies? She didn’t. She was only young, and didn’t understand some things as it was, and now…. The current situation just added to the confusion. It was all about her parents. Her mother and father. Her father had left her when she was young, and her mother was gone too. But they were both gone from different meanings. And she had lived with ‘Gramps’. Then, Relm had realized who was her father. And that changed everything.
When Relm had been told, she didn’t want to her anymore. Her head had started to hurt, and she just left. It was an irresponsible move, but she just needed to get away and think. None of it really registered inside her mind. And no matter how far she walked, she just couldn’t understand. All the details, all the little things that hadn’t been left out swarmed in her mind, including one word. It was more of a name than a word. Shadow was the name in her mind, and that was also what confused her. How could…
Relm stopped thinking for a moment, and she looked at her surroundings. But she didn’t know where she was. She didn’t really care. It seemed quiet, and nothing or nobody seemed to be around. At least Relm would be able to think here, without getting disturbed very much. The odd noise, maybe a bird, but overall, she was alone. Maybe that was the best way to be. Not having to rely on people. Relm had done fine without parents. She had turned out ok, so far. She sat down, and leaned her back against a trunk of a tree. She tried to muddle through this mess. So, if Shadow was her father, why did he leave her so young? Sure, he probably had his reasons, and Relm knew that grown ups had to do things from time to time. But, weren’t parents meant to care for their children? Look after them until they had grown up like them? That’s what Relm thought, but she couldn’t be sure. She had never experienced it, after all. She had never had the experiences that children were meant to have with their parents… because her parents weren’t there.
Relm groaned slightly and put her chin on her knees. Maybe she was being dramatic. She should be happy, right? But, then why did she feel so confuse about it all? She felt a little pang in her chest, and she thought she was definitely exaggerating. Relm huffed. She felt tears prick at her eyes for no reason, and she didn’t want to cry. She didn’t even know why she was about to. Big girls don’t cry, and she was a big girl now, right? That meant she had to act grown up now. At least, she thought so. But then again, she had never really acted her age, had she?
This was a little too weird for her. Relm wasn’t acting like herself at all. This situation had caused her to change. What had happened to sassy ten-year-old? Why was she acting different? Maybe she was just feeling a little under the weather. Sure enough, Relm would probably be back to her usual self in no time, right? It was likely, and soon enough she would feel better. But, at the moment… just this once, she wanted to act like a child. That might even do her some good. Relm crossed her legs, and put her hands in her lap. For once, she felt rather small, and just wanted to stay where she was, away from everybody else. She didn’t want to go home just yet. Heck, she wasn’t even sure of where she was. Not that she overly cared. Relm was where she was, and nothing really mattered at the moment. Not to her anyway. She was in daze, just thinking. Thinking of everything. All this confusion was building u, and she felt a little like she was going to burst. Blue eyes watered slightly, but Relm didn’t notice. Besides, big girls didn’t cry, right? The last couple of days had been good ones for the king of Figaro. He’d gotten to see Terra and had a nice chat with her, he’d found out about a nice and embarrassing secret of Sabin’s, and he’d made so many hours in the last few weeks that his paperwork was mostly finished. Of course new work could be found again on his desk each and every morning, but now that he actually kept up with it rather than postponing some of it, it wasn’t too difficult to stay caught up. Times were relatively peaceful now compared to the past, perhaps that’s why his workload seemed to have decreased? Whatever the reason was, Edgar wasn’t about to look this particular gift horse in the mouth. Less work meant more time for play and socializing and all that other good stuff. Edgar loved good stuff, and made no secret of it. Tonight he’d had a pretty amazing night as well. After weeks of hard work, he’d invited some of his guards to go out and get drinks tonight, on his bill. Of course they would never pass that opportunity up, and so he’d spent most of the evening at the pub, having drinks and laughs with his personnel. He didn’t make a habit of it, after all, they couldn’t go and think he was their friend rather than their boss. If they did see him that way, they’d slack on their work because they’d assume they could get away with it. But sharing a friendly evening together every once in a while only served to strengthen their feelings of loyalty, he’d figured out in the past. So long as he could maintain that healthy balance, he was on a trail of success here.
Boisterous laughter could be heard all over the castle grounds as the group of men (and a few women who had decided to take his invitation) made their way back to the castle for a good night’s rest. Edgar had made sure that none of them had drank so much that they’d suffer a hangover in the morning. Most of them were slightly tipsy, but they could sleep that off with relative ease, and they could be back on duty by tomorrow afternoon, when their shifts started again. Still, even though they weren’t fully drunk just yet, the mood was good enough to have everyone, from the guards to the cleaning ladies and even Edgar himself laughing merrily as they traipsed through the sand back to the entrance of the castle. Tonight had been a good night, and Edgar already looked forward to the next one. It would’ve been even better had he managed to contact all his old friends and gotten them to come visit him here to spend the evening with him, but they were too far apart for that to have worked out the way he wanted to. Maybe someday…
“Hey, no no no!” he shook his head and grasped a delicate wrist as he gave the owner of said wrist a charming smile, “You’re doing it wrong, that’s not how you carry your lady,” he told the guard who had slung his girlfriend over his shoulder like a bag of potatoes. Seriously, did none of these men have any class at all? “This,” he started as he picked the girl up in a bridal style, “Is how you carry your lady, you uncivilized heathen.” Some people might’ve taken it as an insult, but these guys had worked for him long enough that they knew not to take every little snide remark he threw around too seriously, especially not on nights like these. Giggles and laughter followed the arguments between Edgar and his guard about the best way to carry a woman, but the laughter soon ended when one particularly observant guard alerted them all to the presence of a stranger. The happy night was over, and everyone was back on business again as the guards immediately took up positions around their king, their hands immediately moving down to their swords as they looked in the direction of the stranger. Edgar managed to sneak a peek over a shoulder and rolled his eyes as he shoved his way through to the front of the crowd. “I see someone has broken the ‘don’t get drunk’ rule,” he sighed and glanced over at the first guy who had spotted ‘the dangerous enemy that had sneaked into their castle while they weren’t looking’. Edgar casually walked over to where Relm was sitting and motioned down towards her, unaware of her saddened mood. “Does this really look like someone who’s just waiting for an opportunity to brutally murder me in my sleep?” he sighed and waved his hand slightly, “Alright then, dismissed everyone.” As soon as everyone had left, Edgar knelt down beside the girl he remembered from his travels. “If it isn’t little miss sunshine, should you not be in bed at this hour?” ---------------------------------- Words: 827 Tagged: Relm Location: Figaro Castle (Outside) Outfit: Usual Notes: For some reason, I wrote this post as taking place at night. o.O By the time I finished it, I realized you never really specified a time, so I hope this is alright. ;__;

What was the point in answering? She just stayed silent. That was for the best. Relm looked away. Stay quiet. There is no point saying anything about it. She thought to herself. A small sigh came, and she fiddled with her hands. She couldn't stay quiet forever, but she could try. At least, about what she was talking about. That was her trouble and her trouble alone. Nobody else's. Why did people always worry when a child was sad? Why did they always ask? Didn't they think that maybe, they didn't want to talk about it? Looking at him through the corner of her eye, Relm quickly swivelled so her back was facing Edgar. It was obvious she was trying to avoid the question without moving. Was that a bad thing? To avoid talking about it? Or was it wise, to stop herself feeling sad or hurt? She released another sigh. Relm was still confused about everything happening. She hadn't realised she had run so far... all the way to where Edgar lived. And the fact that she was called 'a dangerous enemy'. She wasn't Edgar's enemy. Or at least, last time she checked she wasn't. Relm rubbed her eyes, before crossing her arms. "Go away." She said, still not looking at him. Did he know about Shadow and everything that had gone on? Had they all known? No! Of course, they didn't! They would have told her...right?
"Leave me alone!" Relm exclaimed, hoping the message came across clear. She didn't need anybody worrying over her. She didn't want it either! She was fine by herself, and she didn't need Strago, or Shadow or anybody! Relm huffed, and gave him a small look over her shoulder. She didn't need Edgar, either. She looked away once again. Maybe she had been right. Maybe, they had all known, and they would have never told her. Maybe... maybe they found it amusing? Relm was making up ideas in her imagination, all about it. She hoped none of it was true, but she couldn't help but believe it. Was she being stupid about it? Was she exaggerating everything? That might've been why Strago had waited for so long to tell her completely. He probably thought she would act childish. Was she acting childish? Relm had ran away, and know wasn't talking properly to Edgar. She was just finding someone to blame. She blamed everybody, even herself. How could she have not figured it out sooner? It should have been obvious ever since she first met him and Interceptor. Why hadn't she realised it? Why did everybody keep it a big secret?! Relm felt a few tears drip down her face. No! She couldn't cry! That's what children did! Only children cried. But... wasn't she a child?
Relm quickly faced Edgar and pushed him away as hard as she could (not very much). Her eyes were red and puffy. She just wanted to be left alone, to think things through by herself. "Just leave me alone! I don't want to talk to any of you!" She cried, putting her hands over her ears tightly. Relm felt like she couldn't trust any of them, nobody. She thought everybody had kept a secret from her. "J-just..." Her voice broke, and she choked on her own words. For once, when she was upset, she was acting her age... instead of acting all sassy and pretending nothing was wrong. "I-I'm so c-c-confused." Relm whispered. Why was she telling Edgar this? He could have been keeping it a secret too... She sniffed a couple of times, wiping her eyes, only to release a few more tears. Stop crying, Relm! She scolded herself, looking down. Relm released a shaky breath, before dropping her hands by her sides, her head dropped down. A few sniffs followed, trying to calm herself down. Her voice was quiet. "Sorry..." Some people were just too idiotic to exist. How had that guard taken a look at Relm and went with the assumption that she was some sort of threat? What, did he think she was the world’s smallest assassin or something? This was exactly why he tried to prevent his people from getting drunk, at least while he was there, since he couldn’t really influence what they did when he wasn’t around to keep tabs on them. But whatever, they were gone now, hopefully heading straight to their bedroom to get some much needed rest because they could certainly use it. They needed to be clearheaded again in the morning, otherwise they’d be completely useless as guards. As soon as he was alone with Relm, he got down on the girl’s level and started talking to her. Hopefully she wasn’t sleeping, then again, if she was, this was a pretty terrible place to fall asleep, and he’d need to wake her and ask her why the heck she’d come here anyway. But it seemed like she wasn’t sleeping, she was fully awake. Okay… that made things easier, but it still didn’t explain why she was here instead of with her grandfather. It soon became clear enough why she wasn’t at home right now. Relm was upset, really upset about something, it seemed. Edgar could honestly admit that little Relm had thrown him completely off guard with her tantrum, and when she started yelling and pushing him, he held his hands up defensively before taking a step backwards to give her the space she apparently wanted enough to get physical with him. She wasn’t physically strong enough to hurt him of course, but the shoving had made it pretty clear to him that she didn’t want him anywhere near her, he wondered why that was, after all, he’d never actually wronged her in any way.
“Hey, wow, take it easy,” he told her as he took that step back, looking down at the girl with slightly widened eyes. He wondered what could’ve happened to put in her in this state she was in now, because this wasn’t the Relm he knew at all. Relm was a happy, sassy little girl who didn’t seem to have a care in the world, he’d certainly never seen her cry or get upset. Not like this anyway. He continued to stare down at her with a confused look on his face as she continued to talk, or sob was more accurate, about being confused and not wanting to talk to anyone. Edgar knew better than to talk to women when they were angry, and although he hadn’t ever really talked to a girl below the age of eighteen (Aside from maybe giving them directions or something), he assumed the little ones were just as dangerous as the big ones when upset, so rather than trying to comfort her right away and get smacked in the face or whatever, he simply waited until she calmed down a little. When it seemed like the worst part was over, and Relm was actually in a state where she could apologize for her tantrum, Edgar took a cautious step forward again, this time kneeling down in front of her rather than next to her. “What happened to you…?” he asked carefully, wary of the fact that his questions might very well send her into another blind rage like before, still, he couldn’t exactly leave her here and do nothing, could he? There had to be a special spot in hell for people who saw children cry out in distress and chose to walk away when they should’ve tried to help. The king’s eyes narrowed some as he thought about what could’ve possibly happened to make the girl this upset. Had she had a fight with her grandfather? Was something wrong with the old man? Was he sick or something? Or had she run into the wrong crowd of people? “Did someone hurt you?” he asked quietly, “Whatever it is, you can tell me about it if you want. I’m sure we can find a solution to whatever’s troubling you.” ---------------------------------- Words: 690 Tagged: Relm Location: Figaro Castle (Outside) Outfit: Usual Notes: Poor Relm. =(

Her fists were clenched, but she wasn't sure why. Surely, she was exaggerating things. They wouldn't break her trust, right? Relm wiped her eyes quickly, dropping her hands back down by her side. It was rare for her to feel this upset. Usually she just got a little sassy, but she never really cried. Not much, anyway. She tried to stop herself whenever she felt like she was about to. She flexed her wrists in circles. Relm sniffed a little, and then wiped her nose. Stop it! Stop it now! She took in a shaky breath and her hands uncurled, and her shoulders slumped a lot more. She swallowed, opening her mouth to say something, only to shut it again. What could she say? She couldn't just go and load everything on to him! Relm was sure Edgar had his own things to sort out. Besides, who wanted to hear a child's problems anyway? More tears started to fall. She couldn't stop them. Was it wrong she felt a little troubled? Relm shifted her weight from left to right, and she kept her mouth shut as much as she could. Edgar didn't need to know, right? But, then again, it could be good to talk about it. Relm rubbed her eyes vigarously, trying to stop the tears all together, but that only made them come faster. She hiccuped. "I.. I d-don't..."
Relm sighed slightly, before looking at Edgar. He didn't seem like he had know. Maybe that was genuine. She sniffed again. Should she tell him? He seemed concerned, and like he actually wanted to know what was wrong. She shook her head. "N-no. Nobody hurt m-me." Relm curled and uncurled her fingers. "I-I..." She swallowed, looking him dead in the eye. "Did... did you k-know who m-my father w-was?" Her eyes looked down, at the ground. Was it a stupid thing to get upset about? But, Relm felt like everybody she trusted had lied to her. That was definitely something to get upset about. "D-did you k-know and not t-tell me?" She gripped her hands tightly. She doubted he knew, but it was always worth asking, right? Relm blinked back a few tears several times. She had suspected who her father was, but that didn't stop the hurt she felt when she realised nobody had ever told her. Her cheeks tinted a little pink, before she exhaled quietly. "I didn't know... I thought e-everybody else k-knew." Relm wiped a few fresh tears away. Why couldn't she stop this damn crying? But, maybe letting out a few things would be good for her. Edgar had never considered himself good with children. Not bad, but not good either. Just somewhere in the middle where he could talk to them and entertain them for a little while if he really had to, but overall, he felt much more comfortable around adults because he could understand their thought pattern. When an adult was upset, there tended to be a very logical reason for their sadness, and they were usually open for advice. If not, they were old and wise enough to figure out what to do on their own. Children however, seemed to sometimes just get upset for no reason whatsoever, and from what Edgar had observed in parents and their kids, it seemed like they were rarely willing to listen to sound advice too, to top it all off, they weren’t mature enough to find a solution on their own. So they needed an adult to help them, but they didn’t want the help. It was just a far bigger headache than the king needed, which was why he rarely socialized with kids aside from greeting them politely in the streets or whatever. That was why he’d felt inclined to ask Relm about her age when they’d first met. She looked like a child, but she didn’t act like one most of the time, and Edgar did know there were adults who had been born in small, childlike bodies before. He’d offended a woman before by assuming she was a child, when she was really older than he had been at the time, and he didn’t want to make that same mistake again. But right now, Relm certainly was showing her age by crying and shoving and then crying some more and refusing help. At least she didn’t stay in that irrational stage for too long, and after a little while of just sobbing to herself, she finally apologized for her behavior. There was a Relm he’d come to know throughout their journey together, but something was clearly bothering her, and though it would’ve been infinitely easier to just offer her a room and leave her there by herself to handle it, Edgar couldn’t help but feel responsible right now. She was here, near his home. It probably hadn’t been a conscious choice, but still. It felt like she’d reached out to him by coming here, and how heartless would it be to tell her to leave him alone because he couldn’t be bothered to listen to her problems? That wasn’t what friends did, and even though they differed quite a bit in the age department, he did still consider her a friend. Not like he considered Locke or Terra or even Celes to be friends, but still… friends… in some way.
“There there,” he told her in a somewhat awkward tone of voice as he patted her shoulder when she continued to cry. Dang, this was pretty hard, how was he ever going to not just comfort her but solve whatever problem she had as well? Reaching into his pocket, he drew out a tissue and handed it to her in case she needed one to wipe her tears or blow her nose or whatever. Why did he have these things on him? Not even Edgar knew, he just like to be prepared for anything, I guess. This was definitely out of his league, but at least he gave it his best shot. You got credit for effort, no? “Your… father?” he repeated after her, quirking one of his eyebrows at her question, “I…” before he got a chance to properly speak again, she asked him more questions, these last ones sounded more accusing than questioning though. Apparently she’d just found out who her old man was, and she was dissatisfied with him for some reason. Maybe he was a beggar, or a thief? Or something even worse? That had to be it, because otherwise, why would her grandfather have kept it from her? It couldn’t be all that difficult to tell a little girl about a normal man being her father, but he imagined it was quite the task when her father had been scum. Not that Edgar knew who her father was, but just from seeing the state the girl was in, he could quite easily figure that it wasn’t some amazing guy that every other girl would be jealous of and want as their own parent. “I’m… sorry…” he started quietly, scratching the back of his neck a little before continuing, “But I have no idea what you’re talking about. Who is your father? Why does knowing who he is upset you so?” now he wanted to know too. Was it really that bad of a man? ---------------------------------- Words: 786 Tagged: Relm Location: Figaro Castle (Outside) Outfit: Usual Notes: It's perfectly fine, Relm deserves to have one childish moment in her life!

Sniffing, she rubbed her eyes with her dry hand. Maybe, Relm was being a little over-dramatic, but she just didn’t understand why people had kept it from her! Had she no right to know? She sniffed again, looking at her feet. She felt a little silly now. Sure, people must’ve been upset if you met your father and had no actual idea it was him, and then have him leave again. Experience a loss of someone once was bad enough, but twice? Relm didn’t like change, or people leaving and saying goodbye, or anything like that! She didn’t like it one bit! And it seemed her whole world had been turned upside down in a blink of an eye. Was that a little silly to think? Was she exaggerating the whole situation? Relm swallowed, and fiddled with the hem of her top. Distractions. Distractions stop children being upset for a short time, yes? Then, she just needed to distract herself. Drawing wouldn’t work, she had nothing with her, and drawing was what she did mostly. She just needed to distract herself with something other than her thoughts… or she needed to just get over this! Relm looked up at Edgar, and looked back down after a small moment. She was a lot calmer now, only sniffing a few times, and the odd tear. She shifted her weight from her left foot to her right foot, her head still bowed slightly. Relm might not have been crying anymore, but she still felt sad. She wasn’t sure why though. Shouldn’t she be happy, that she knew who her father was? Or was it the fact that she didn’t know where he was, or the fact that he hadn’t really bothered with her at all? Relm blinked a few times, before shuffling a little. Maybe that was the reason. Did she feel like her father didn’t want her? Was that the answer? That she felt unwanted?
Relm looked at the hand on her shoulder briefly, before looking back at Edgar. Why was she troubling him with her problems, again? She took the tissue in her hand, and put them down by her side, and slumped a little. Her grip was tight on the tissue, and she wiped her eyes with it. ”Thank-you.” She spoke in a quiet voice, and put tissue back in her tight grip. She nodded to him, and hummed. Her father… was Shadow… it still sounded rather strange to her ears. Like a foreign word. Maybe it would forever sound odd to her. That’s what it felt like, at that moment. But it wasn’t the fact that he was her father, it was the fact that she hadn’t been told sooner, and that she felt unwanted by him. Was that bad? Was it bad to want her father to see her? Speak to her? Relm wouldn’t know. She had never been in this type of situation before, and so, she responded by crying her eyes out. Relm looked up at Edgar. ”It’s… I feel like he wants nothing to do with me… because… I’ve only really seen him when I didn’t know who he was…” She paused for a moment. ”Why did he even leave in the first place?” She muttered, before using the wet tissue to wipe her nose. She let out a little sigh, and started fiddling with the hem of her top again. Distractions… "It's Shadow... He's my father..." This was so not up his alley, it wasn’t even funny. Edgar could get along with children well enough when they were happy, but when they were sad… he was just lost. And when they started crying on top of being sad, it just felt like he’d landed in one of his nightmares where all he could do was watch and awkwardly try and fix whatever problem there was. Adults he could easily comfort, because they could at least be spoken to rationally. You go and try to use that same tactic on a kid, and see how well it goes. Children and rationality didn’t seem to belong in the same sentence, and Edgar’s suspicions were only confirmed when Relm yelled and pushed him over something he didn’t even know he’d done. Eventually she calmed down a little and accepted the tissue he offered her, which was a little better, but Edgar still wasn’t sure what to do here aside from sitting there and listening to whatever she needed to get off her chest.
Sabin or Terra should’ve been here instead, they would’ve known what to do. Locke too, and perhaps even Celes. The king frowned a little at his own inability to handle this situation properly, maybe it was just a lack of experience, or maybe children just didn’t like him period, and they could only hide their contempt when they were happy? Ugh, he was giving himself a headache over this, and it only got worse when Relm started talking of fathers and their identity and asking whether Edgar knew who it was. He honestly felt just as lost as Relm seemed to feel, if that was even possible. But Edgar couldn’t tell her what he didn’t know, so regretfully, he had to tell her that he couldn’t help her with this issue of what he assumed to be a need to find her father after ten years. “I’m sure that’s not true,” he tried carefully when she got all mopey about how her dad wanted nothing to do with her. Maybe he didn’t, but Edgar couldn’t exactly go and agree with her depressing thoughts. She’d only feel worse, which in turn would make him feel worse. He remained silent after her question, but when she finally told him about who her father was, the king’s eyes widened some as he looked down at the girl’s face. Holy crap… Shadow? Why… didn’t this shock him as much as it should?
Drawing his eyes back to the floor and away from her face, Edgar just stared for a moment, lost in thought. Even though they’d never spoken much, and despite the fact that Shadow had never even hinted at having a child… Edgar had always suspected something between the mysterious man and the sassy little girl. It had probably started with Shadow’s dog treating her nicely when the beast practically ripped everybody’s head off that got anywhere near it. He’d also noticed the man glancing in her direction every now and then when he thought nobody was looking. But again, those had only been suspicions. He couldn’t go feeding Relm a story that might not even be true, besides, at the time there had been more pressing matters than who was related to whom and the reason dogs treated some people better than others. Every one of them, including Edgar himself, had been thinking about other things. They hadn’t been able to afford thinking of stuff like this, but now that Relm told him, the king really felt like it was more a confirmation than a revelation. “I see…” he mumbled, crossing his arms over his chest and looking up at the sky. Well… the cat was out of the bag, what now? Did he admit that he’d had a sneaking suspicion about this before, or did he keep that bit of information to himself? Should he let her stay in the castle for a while until she felt better, or should he have someone escort her back to her grandfather? Decisions, decisions… and neither seemed to be a particularly good decision. Maybe he needed to think it over some more. “How did you find out?” ---------------------------------- Words: 697 Tagged: Relm Location: Figaro Castle (Outside) Outfit: Usual Notes: I got nothing.

Was she, perhaps, making him slightly awkward? It seemed like that. But she had never meant to do that. She just need a bit of comfort, as all. Maybe she just needed to take a few deep breaths, and she would be fine. Yeah… hopefully. It must’ve been a bit strange, to see the usual sassy girl feel so down. Relm wasn’t really that sad… not often, anyway. But, it wasn’t like she was having an outright, full blown tantrum. She wasn’t screaming and kicking. Sure, Relm had pushed Edgar a little, but she had seen other children be much, much worse. Still, she felt slightly better already. That was good. At least, she thought it was good. Feeling better… it wouldn’t change her situation much… but… at least she would have her head clear. And then, she could talk to Strago. Even Shadow, if he showed his face. Then again, Relm didn’t want to speak to him. Not at the moment. She wouldn’t go yet, though. She still needed to calm down just a little bit more.
Relm rubbed her eyes, and held her elbows in her hands, looking down. She needed some comforting, and that was all. Just right now, anyway. She would need a few answers, but… maybe she would be fine without any… Just for the moment. She would want some eventually, but she wouldn’t mind waiting. Relm had never really cried like this before. It was a new experience. She didn’t know what to do, really. Big girls didn’t cry. Still, perhaps she wasn’t big yet. Not as big as she thought herself to be. She was making herself feel unwell with all of this confusion. Nauseous to the stomach, pounding headache, slightly shaking. Relm was sure this must’ve been confusion, or maybe… feeling overwhelmed? Either way, she shifted her weight, occasionally sniffing once or twice. ”I don’t know…” Relm shrugged a little, looking at her shoes. She swallowed slightly, before wiping her nose on the tissue again. She fiddled with her hands, rubbing them and pinching the skin. Why was she doing this, exactly? Simple, distractions.
Relm looked up at Edgar, her eyes temporarily free from tears. She hadn’t spoken to anyone about this. She had just learnt and then ran. She hadn’t actually spoken to Edgar much before this. Just the odd time. It felt weird, strange. She nodded to him, and looked back down. That was more than what she had said. Relm had just been shell-shocked, and sprinted far away from the cause of her confusion. So much confusion. She opened her mouth, and closed it again. No words coming out. She swallowed, before looking back up. ”I… um… Grandpa told me… He said t-that he had k-know a while-e.” She looked back down immediately, sniffing one more time. Her eyes were watering ever-so slightly again. She wiped them with her arm again, before looking back down. Then, very, very suddenly, she rushed forward, wrapping her arms around Edgar in a hug. She sniffed, and rubbed her face into him, her tears spilling out once again. ”I’m s-sorry.” [/size] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 700 Muse:; Pretty Good Tagged:; Edgar Outfit:; >>This!<<Listening To:; Iridescent by Linkin Park Notes:; Sorry, this isn't that good, but I wanted to get it out. xD

Who would’ve thought Shadow of all people had managed to get a woman to like him enough to have a child with him. Edgar certainly wouldn’t have guessed it, and even though he’d been suspicious about Shadow’s interest in Relm before, he probably wouldn’t have been able to guess that she was his daughter. The mere thought was preposterous. Shadow wasn’t a charming man, and Relm possessed absolutely no qualities of his, from what Edgar had noted during their travels together. She was a happy bundle of joy with a smart mouth on her, Shadow was quiet and didn’t seem to like anything, not even himself. Relm had always seemed an open book when it came to emotions, Shadow seemed completely void of emotions half the time. Was her grandfather mistaken? But why would he want his granddaughter to believe that a guy like Shadow was related to her? He wasn’t exactly the picture perfect dream dad all the kids wanted. If he had made it up, he certainly could’ve picked a better man for the part. But Edgar had a feeling he hadn’t lied. Shadow was really her father. Hell, now her sadness made a world more sense, because who in their right mind would be happy hearing news like that? He was pretty sure he would’ve been weeping his heart out over such a revelation as well. Any sane person would.
The king of Figaro just looked down and listened to what Relm had to say, not sure what else he could do to help. After she’d used the tissue he’d handed her a few times, he reached into another pocket to search for a clean one. You couldn’t properly cry and sniffle into a dirty tissue, that was just nasty. Luckily for her, Edgar always carried plenty of these things on his person, just in need he himself or some other poor unfortunate soul was in need of one. Never come unprepared for things like these. As he reached back however, he heard something shuffle next to him, and by the time he looked up, the little girl had gotten up from her previously occupied position and rushed him, throwing her arms around him and hugging him. The blonde man instantly froze up by the sudden change of events, and just looked down with slightly widened eyes. Oh dear, what now? How was he going to get out of this one? Upon hearing her voice speak once again though, apologizing to him, Edgar relaxed some. “You have nothing to be sorry about…” he told her quietly before wrapping a single arm around her much smaller shoulders and patting her back. “It’s going to be alright Relm, trust me. I know this was a shock, but I know you’ll be able to move past it, eventually,” Relm was a pretty strong kid, after all. If anyone could get over the fact that a scumbag like Shadow was their dad, it was her. “Do you want to stay here tonight? I could have a room prepared for you, as well as send a messenger to your grandfather to let him know you’re here. He must be terribly worried about you.” ---------------------------------- Words: 531 Tagged: Relm Location: Figaro Castle (Outside) Outfit: Usual Notes: It's a shorty this time!

She was feeling better from before. She was thinking illogically. Relm just needed to calm down and think things through more, even if she was just a kid. But, it was rather unlikely that Relm and Shadow could’ve been related from a first lance. They didn’t look the same, and they didn’t have the same personality, not even parts of it. It was rather strange, and Relm still couldn’t entirely believe it, like she couldn’t from earlier. She still felt confused, sure, but she definitely felt better, that was for certain. It was just… Relm had, had dreams before. Dreams of what her father would be like, and who he would be. Shadow just… didn’t exactly fit the box. But, he couldn’t help that. She could try to talk to him, but Relm hadn’t seen him since the whole ideal with Kefka. Had anybody? If she did have the chance to talk to him about it, she wouldn’t be here, she wouldn’t have run away. She would have stayed and acted calmly. But, because she had no choice, she resorted to the worst.
The situation was messed up, utterly and completely whack. Relm tightened her grip on Edgar, and sniffed lightly once more. She just needed some comfort at this moment. Comfort from anybody, or any sort. Just… comfort. Relm sighed. ”I do have a reason to be sorry…I over-reacted, didn’t I?” She felt embarrassed. She was just acting stupid, wasn’t she? ”B-but… I can’t even speak to him, to ask him properly…” She sighed again, and swallowed. She nodded. That would be better. She didn’t want to go home… not yet. Relm didn’t want to face Strago. ”Yes please… I guess, he m-might be worried. I don’t know."
