Rinoa walked through the large grass, her arms swinging at her sides as the large blades parted as she walked through them. Cosmos’ words were running through her head over and over again. The fate of the world was in all of their hands and upon their shoulders. It was now their job to keep the balance between good and evil, well...balanced. They had to win or else everything would fall into despair and grief. Rinoa couldn’t let that happen. She, herself, had almost fallen to despair and it had been an awful experience when she had been floating in space and when she had frozen herself to protect everyone. She didn’t want something so sinister and merciless to overcome everyone. Not now. Not ever.
Rinoa stopped walking and looked around at her surroundings quickly, surveying them, and trying to think of the easiest path to take. There were little hills, and tiny islands that she wasn’t sure had any real purpose. Arches arose from random locations and matter swirled around in them. The portals to the battlefields. As much as she wished to stay away from those things, she knew that she would have to fight at some point. She gripped her hands into fists and glanced down at her Pinwheel. Hopefully it was strong enough. And if need be then she would have to tap into her magic and Sorceress powers. Using those powers brought back bad memories, but if it meant her world continuing to live in peace or fall into evil, then it wasn’t a choice at all. She just really, really hoped it didn’t come to that.
Along with all of the scenery, Rinoa could also see manikins moving around in the tall grass, serving as obstacles to get to portals. She would have to be weary of them as they would all be new opponents, which meant that she would have to figure out their battle style first and then attack if she ever wished to beat them and continue fighting for the side of good and harmony. She knew they would be weaker than the actual thing, but she also figured that there would be a lot of them to encounter. Rinoa couldn’t help but sigh. This was really going to be difficult. If Squall was here, then she would have a greater assurance in knowing there was a fighting chance, no pun intended, but as of right now, she could only think that she was alone in this fight.
That is, until she heard footsteps in the grass. Rinoa froze and her mind started to reel. What if it was a manikin that had noticed her? She wasn’t exactly prepared for a battle just yet. Or worse, what if it was one of Chaos’ warriors? That would be even worse. No. No, she had to calm down. Taking a deep breath, and calming herself, she tensed her left arm and twitched it, activating her Pinwheel. She didn’t hesitate. Sliding on the heels of her boots, she raised her left arm, meanwhile raising her right to steady the Pinwheel. Her weapon opened, but before she could activate the projectiles to attack whatever it was she heard, she noticed that it was just a girl. She was wearing yellow and purple clothes, with minimal armor and a bow on her back. Rinoa remembered her. She had seen, or rather glanced, her back when all of the other Warriors had been summoned. Rinoa lowered her left arm quickly, deactivating her Pinwheel before running up to the girl who was a few feet. “Hey, over here!”

Back to wandering around hm? Oh well, it was bound to happen, Maria needed to take her own path. She couldn’t depend on someone forever, especially Firion, she needed to prove that she’d been summoned here for a reason, not that it meant she needed to do everything on her own, no that wasn’t the point, it was just…leaning on someone else who had experience wasn’t exactly the right path to take. The only difficult part was finding the right path, for now it looked as if she were going to be going solo, but soon she’d have to come across someone again, maybe even cross paths with Firion once more, but she didn’t keep her hopes up on that one, there were lots of people out there, lots of manikins and lots of potential danger lurking, Shaking her head, Maria felt a small smile form on her lips as she chided herself, motivating herself to get moving and finally taking a few more steps towards whatever path it was she was going to take.
Her eyes caught sight of a figure in the distance, in a tall grassy field to be exact. The dark haired girl looked to be alone, and Maria was sure she’d seen her at the meeting with Cosmos and her companion, the Warrior of Light. Was she lost or something? Maybe she was just as confused about all o this as Maria was. Who knew. Might as well check it out hmm? She could at least say hello and see if this girl knew anything as to what was going on. With a determined look on her face, her bow resting on her back with her quiver, Maria started into the grassy area, her boots making sound in the field that way she didn’t startle the woman upon her approach. Stopping abruptly though, Maria saw the way the woman was moving, she obviously thought there was a threat looming over her shoulder. Stopping, remaining still, and watching the girl spot her, Maria could then relax, and watched as the girl in blue trailed towards her, speaking up.
Maria gave the girl a small nod of greeting. “I saw you at the meeting with Cosmos.” She stated clearly, lifting a hand to her chin and pondering her thoughts for a moment. It was still odd and confusing somewhat, but now that she’d actually found someone as new as she, then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, right? “I’m Maria, I don’t think I’ve caught your name yet.” She said extending a hand towards the woman in blue, a sincere yet very small smile on her face as her eyes occasionally glanced to the beings lurking around, almost looking for someone to attack. Those stupid manikins, they were going to be a huge pain in the butt throughout all this, weren’t they? Most likely this entire war thing was going to be a huge pain. “Are you out here by yourself? Or…” she looked around, not seeing anyone else that wasn’t a manikin, if this girl was alone…maybe…traveling together wasn’t such a bad idea? Going at things alone tended to get you hurt, it wouldn’t hurt to have someone else watching your back would it? No, probably not. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 633 Muse: Good! Rinoa really wished she had met up with someone back when Cosmos had first summoned all of the warriors. That way she wouldn’t end up being alone in this field with manikins prancing all around, just waiting to come and attack her. Yeah, she knew how to fight and she still had her powers from being a Sorceress, but the entirety of the situation was really starting to get to her, and she didn’t know if she would be able to hold her own with all of that on her mind. She had already dealt with having the world on her shoulders once. Now here she was again, though this time there were others that carried the burden, same as her. Either way, it was still overwhelming for the young girl. She clutched her left fist, and reminded herself that she had her Pinwheel with her as she took a deep breath to calm her beating heart. She just had to be cautious and be on her guard. She couldn’t allow anyone or anything to sneak up on her. She knew how to protect herself and she was going to use what she knew.
She suddenly heard the sound of grass parting and being crushed, and she moved quickly, allowing her instincts to take over and adrenaline to fly throughout her body. She raised her left hand, and activated her Pinwheel, holding it steady with her right hand. She was just about to release the projectiles when she noticed that it was another girl about her age. A girl who seemed real and familiar. Rinoa quickly deactivated her Pinwheel, and ran over, waving her arm and yelling out a hello as she came to a stop. “Boy, am I glad to see you. I was starting to get freaked out being out here alone and all,” Rinoa said with a slight laugh as the girl stated that she had seen Rinoa at the meeting. Rinoa nodded. “I saw you too. It’s nice to see a sort-of familiar face.” So, her name was Maria. Well, it certainly fit. “My name’s Rinoa. It’s nice to meet you,” she replied with a smile as she glanced around at the plain once more, making sure that nothing was sneaking up on them during the exchange. “Yup, I’m out here alone. I think it might be a good idea if we teamed up for a bit. You know, watch each other’s backs and such.” She hoped Maria took up the offer. She didn’t seem like someone who was a loner. Rinoa knew loners, and Maria wasn’t one of them.
Glancing at Maria once more, Rinoa noticed the bow that she was carrying. Huh, so she also used long range combat. Well, that was certainly a coincidence. Rinoa adjusted her Pinwheel so that it was more comfortable on her arm, not that it already was, but she was starting to get nervous again, standing out in the middle of a field, completely open. She glanced around once more. Man, she really needed to calm down. She knew there were threats, but that didn’t mean that they were going to be popping up every five seconds...right?

As Maria had concluded that bad luck seemed to follow her everywhere, she was starting to doubt that only slightly when she saw the dark haired woman in blue. She had been at the meeting with Cosmos and her faithful Knight companion. This was a good sign, it meant she wouldn’t be out here and alone…should the girl even want to travel with Maria, but that could wait, even if she didn’t maybe this lady knew a bit more and could tell her where to go. Even though Maria had gotten some better of an understanding of all this from Firion, she still had a long ways to go in the aspect of completely understanding this entire war thing. It was overwhelming and far too much to take in…but soon enough she’d get the gist of everything, be able to explain it herself…in due time, not right away…but she was slowly getting there.
Meeting up with the woman in blue, Maria heard her speak, heard her words…and instantly liked the girl. She was kind sounding, and seemed to be in the same thought process as Maria herself. Freaked out because she was out here all alone? That sounded like the archer to a freakin’ T. “Being out here and alone can certainly make one uncomfortable.” She admitted with a small shrug of her shoulders before greetings went into effect. She was Maria, and this girl was Rinoa. A strange yet very pretty name in Maria’s opinion, and that made the archer nod a bit with a pleasant smile on her face. “It’s nice to meet you too, Rinoa.” The idle chat was nice, but Maria really wanted to get down to business, to get this war over with as soon as possible. She wanted to go home probably about as much as the next person to come along…but it probably wasn’t going to be happening anytime soon, a war didn’t last a day…if only it did, then they’d be home in no time.
“I think you’re right. I’d much rather trust that someone is watching my back, rather than praying I don’t get stabbed in the back by some manikin, or worse.” Because that didn’t sound dark at all. But it was the cold hard truth. These warriors of Cosmos were chosen for a reason, they were going to be fighting manikins and worse on a daily basis, they were chosen because they could handle themselves, and binding yourself to another person only ensured your safety. Maria didn’t want to be that warrior that got caught off guard all because she didn’t have eyes in the back of her head. “Were you heading in a particular direction? Because…I was pretty much wandering aimlessly. I think we need to head through some of those gates and clear them out before we can get down to the nitty gritty when it comes to this war. What do you think?” she asked with a tilt of her head, curious to see another person’s opinion on the matter, and they could then plan on which route to take and how to take it. This was definitely a safer way to travel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 628 Muse: Good!
