Appearance
Hair - Max has short, but thick brown hair. It doesn’t reach his shoulders, but he uses a black headband to keep his bangs out of his face.
Eyes - Bright green eyes are Max’s trademark. They are a bit too large for his face, which sometimes makes him look younger than he is.
Clothing - Preferring to dress in simple clothing, Max generally wears black and white except for his coat. His pants are made of a thicker material to protect his legs, and are black in colour. His boots are also black, and come up to the middle of his calf (under the pant legs). He wears an off-white short-sleeved shirt that buttons up at the top. Over the shirt is a longer red coat made of a material similar to leather with full-length sleeves which he tends to roll up to just under his elbows some of the time. He carries a quiver of arrows on his back and slings his bow over his shoulder as he travels.
Personality: Max is a shy young man until you get to know him. He isn’t one to volunteer information about himself without being asked. Once he is a little more familiar with somebody he will talk a little more, although he will still be hesitant about it. He is embarrassed over the fact that he was disowned by his father, and will avoid the topic of family until he is much more comfortable with the certain people he considers friends. Unfortunately it is normally very easy to see what he is feeling, as he tends to wear his heart on his sleeve. Max has always felt that he is more independent than most people his age, though he was envious of the other kids that he grew up with in Archades. They all seemed to get along with each other, but he was too shy to approach them so he was often left out of things.
Max isn’t only shy with people, but he isn’t overly brave when dealing with monsters either. He generally only attacks for food or for money (or to protect himself), although he has needed to give up a few hunts because they were too strong for him. He hasn’t been on his own for too long, and hasn’t earned a lot of money so he is still learning how to live completely on his own. He works hard, however, and is determined to prove that he doesn't need his father for anything. If you are lucky enough to gain his trust, you have made a truly loyal friend. He is a little naive in his thinking, and always wants to do the right thing. Unfortunately, his cowardice tends to get in the way of that and his 'fight or flight' instinct generally shifts towards the 'flight' approach.
History: Born to a well-off family in Archades, Max's parents gave him a strong name which followed his father's family's traditions. If he was given a strong name, he would grow into a strong young man and succeed in the world. Growing up, high expectations were forced on him and though he gave it his best shot, he normally fell a little short. It was a huge disappointment for his family, but they ignored the problem while he was young. After all, he would grow into his responsibilities.
The time for him to step up came when he was about 9 years old. His mother fell ill and while his family was able to fake her health in public (for a time), it swept over her quickly. Max was expected to look after her at home while his father was at work, but she only continued to get worse despite his best efforts. Eventually they had to stop going out altogether, and all of Max's focus was on his mother. Surviving for two more years, she finally succumbed to her illness when Max was 11.
Max's father didn't take her death very well, and put even more pressure on Max to succeed in education, in his social standing, and at home. While his education wasn't an issue (due to his ability to focus on his work), his shyness caused a problem when it came to interacting with others in the city. Archades was a city that thrived on power, and Max had none. At least not socially. By the time he was 14 he was hunting in the Sochen Cave Palace with his bow and arrows. If he couldn't make friends with the other kids in Archades, then he would gain a reputation by becoming a Hunter.
His father found out about his son's adventures when he was 15, and they had a huge argument. Or rather, his father screamed at him and Max sat there meekly, accepting his father's rage. At the end of the tirade, Max had been kicked out of his house and was told never to come back. If he wanted to be a Hunter, he wasn't part of that family any longer. Not knowing what to do, Max left. He didn't know any of the other families well enough to be taken in, and honestly he didn't want to even ask. He could live on his own.
For the next year, Max continued to travel the world. It was extremely difficult for him, and more often than not he had to stop for long periods of time in the various cities and towns he encountered to recover, though he never gave up. Nowadays, he is accepting more marks in order to earn money (as well as helping out occasionally in the cities he stays in), as well as to raise his reputation and prove his father wrong.

Role Play Sample: This is ridiculous! I'm going to die! He thought that he would be strong enough for this mark, but by fighting his way through the plains he had lost a great deal more of his strength than he imagined he would. The Wus had thoroughly drained him. Max turned and looked over his shoulder at the creature pursuing him, and yelped with surprise as he tripped over a rock in his path. Hitting the ground hard, his bow flew out of his hand and landed a few feet away.
Groaning both from exhaustion and frustration, he rolled over to find the Enkelados standing above him. All he had to do was make it to Jahara. The Garif would likely help him, and he could distantly see the top of the settlement. The Enkelados raised a massive foot, and Max threw himself sideways to avoid being crushed. Pushing himself back to his feet, he stumbled forward to grab his bow and readied an arrow.
He was far too tired to do anything but fire a regular arrow, but all he needed to do was drive it off. He could try this mark again after he had rested up and regained his strength. His hands shook as he aimed his weapon, and he bit his lip when he tried to steady himself. Taking a deep breath, Max let the arrow fly, and allowed himself a small smile when it reached the target. Letting out a soft "Ha!" he turned and started to run once more.
The boy hadn't gotten very far when the ground started to move beneath his feet. The monster had leapt forward after shaking off the attack, and Max was taken down once more. He kept a hold of his weapon this time, but he was so tired he couldn't even find the energy to roll over, let alone fight or run anymore. I don't want to die! I just need to get up. Letting out a small whimper of fear at the thought of his death, he slowly pulled himself forward. There was an overhang a few feet in front of him. If he could just make it there...
Max risked a glance over his shoulder and found the monster stomping around behind him. He tilted his head curiously, trying to figure out what it was doing. It clearly had him. Shaking his head, deciding that it was better to just take the chance he was given, he pushed himself forward with one last surge of strength, and toppled onto the small cliff onto the hard ground below. Won't find me here. With that thought in mind, he smiled briefly before passing out.
