The silence had hit, but Rosa didn’t hate it. Her relationship with Rydia was so comfortable after so long of knowing her, that she didn’t mind the silence like she did sometimes with other people. If there was silence with Kain, then Rosa felt like it needed to be filled, because she couldn’t stand the awkward silence. She would rather go on and try to fill it, rather then to have to sit there twiddling her thumbs, wanting to say something. The trek back to Baron would take some time, and Rosa didn’t actually know if Rydia would come back with her the entire way. After all, it seemed like her younger friend had been avoiding actually stating that she would come for a visit. Though she eluded to wanting to come, Rosa couldn’t seem to pin her down into actually coming. Though that concerned her, Rosa hadn’t pushed the issue. She normally didn’t when it came to situations like this. Rydia had just seemed…a bit off. She couldn’t place a thumb on it, even now, but something wasn’t right.
Her confession might have had something to do with that though, and that it was the anniversary of her mothers death. Shaking her head, Rosa sighed and chided herself. ’It could be anything Rosa, do you really think you should pry into this? It’s probably just the day…or the situation.’ After the mental chiding, Rosa thought once again about what the green haired girl had really told her. Rosa couldn’t help but worry about her, but she wasn’t quite sure she knew what to do about it. She would be able to come up with something, she just knew it. Something would come from this, that was…if she could just…just make it through. Even now she was stressing her brain trying to think of something.
Until Rydia’s words cut through her thoughts. Lifting her light aqua eyes, Rosa turned her vision, scanning until she saw the root of the commotion. Lifting a hand to shield her eyes, she narrowed them then to look at whatever it was that Rydia was yelling about. Seeing a figure walking, she narrowed them into slits to try and see it clearly. Finally she could distinguish what seemed to be a man carrying another human over his shoulder, but then again, she couldn’t be sure. Before she could say anything, Rydia was off like a shot yelling to the man carrying whatever it was that he was carrying. With a sigh, Rosa lifted her legs and increased her pace until she was jogging after her younger friend. Even now she could feel the effects of pregnancy. “Rydia wait for me!”
Increasing her pace until she was in hot pursuit of Rydia, the young queen found herself watching the figures as more detail could be seen. The closer they got the more she could see, from the man that was carrying something, to seeing what the bundle was that he was carrying. It appeared to be a woman, who was laying face down over his back. Slowing from a run to a very slow jog, Rosa wondered just who this man was, and why he was carrying a, in all appearances, dead woman. Without realizing it she had gotten her bow out and had an arrow notched and ready to go, her aqua eyes sharply looking at him up and down. A warrior from early on, Rosa had no desire to be caught off balance and unprepared. When they got closer, her weary eyes went from him to the woman. Slowing to a walk then, Rosa quickly glanced at the figure lying there. After all, healing was her strong point. If the woman was just injured she would be able to do something about it, but as it was, she had no idea what was wrong with the woman. “Is she injured Sir?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 846 Muse:; Good! This was just all around bad news. Kirtana looked sicker than a dog already, going from psychotic to…helpless, Gladiolus didn’t mind hauling her around, though there wasn’t much he could do to keep her comfortable, anything to keep her from straining to walk, he was pretty sure she was going to pass out at any given moment. This had to be his fault, in the long run that was what he thought. As he had Kirtana hoisted over his shoulder, her weapon in his free hand as he kept a good grip against her legs to keep her from sliding on his shoulder, Glady just kept mentally cursing himself for coming up with the stupidest plan to get them away from the invading soldiers. They were a bad ass team as it was, they could’ve handled themselves…that’s what he kept telling himself, had he not half dragged Kirtana through this portal, then the effects of the battle might not have been as bad as what he and she were facing right now. Gladiolus’ worst fear was starting to lurk into his mind, what if this illness, whatever it was, eventually caused Kirtana’s heart to give out?
What would Gladiolus do if that had happened? He wasn’t sure he could live with himself if that had come to be the ultimate outcome. Somehow he needed to push those thoughts from his head and simply focus on the trail ahead, one that would take him either to the nearest town with a doctor or someone who could help him, or even this Baron place. He needed to find someone who could help him, he was no doctor, that was clearly shown when he had been bandaging up Kirtana’s shoulder. He was pretty sure he did well on that, keeping it from getting infected by anything from the outside, but the foam on the mouths of those animals…they must’ve been carrying some sort of illness with them. That he personally couldn’t do anything about, he didn’t know how to rid of those things, maybe over time things would get better…or running into a doctor who had a proper type of medication. Hell, Gladiolus would take a white mage right now…someone to remove the effects of this…whatever it was.
He was over thinking everything. His eyes were glued to the trail, his pace was swift, and he swore in the distance he could hear footsteps, but it was probably just his worn out mind playing tricks on him. The footsteps got louder and picked up their pace before a feminine voice shouting, causing an echo through the air and Gladiolus instantly knew someone was talking to him, especially since she shouted ‘big guy’ at him. Turning and being careful so Kirtana didn’t sway around on his shoulder or anything, his eyes caught sight of a girl with green hair, green eyes, and an entire green outfit as well. Was this the girl in green that one man had been talking about? She had to be, well…that was a start in the right direction, and with the girl in green came a blonde woman, dressed in what looked to be very fancy attire, almost royal, but Gladiolus knew nothing of this world, so she could’ve just been very fashionable. Maybe they’d be able to help him, after all, he and Kirtana had been directed to find this amazing girl in green, so…obviously there was something that could make his life a little easier here.
Turning his gaze towards the blonde, Gladiolus heard her question about Kirtana, and he gently kneeled down and placed Kirtana on a soft spot in the grass beside him. He stayed down by her side and figured that this new woman was a white mage, or someone who knew what she was talking about. Her attire, her gentility, it just screamed magic. “She was bitten by a creature, her shoulder was pretty torn up…I tried to patch it up as best as I could…but then she just started freaking out. Slightly psychotic in ways and then she ended up looking sickly, with a high fever.” Gladiolus explained before exchanging a glance with both girls, wondering if they knew anything about this, whatever he was talking about. If they could assist in getting Kirtana back to her normal self, then he’d be so grateful…words wouldn’t be able to describe his thanks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 828 Muse: Good! Although things earlier looked a little worse than they could’ve been, Rydia had tried to make the best of everything. She didn’t want to dwell on her own personal problems, she didn’t even want to dwell on the anniversary of her mother’s death, she just wanted to return to being happy and carefree. That was only wishful thinking though. Things would never be the same, but at least she could get her mind off of those things while walking silently with Rosa. She enjoyed the silence really, Rosa was just so easy to get along with, that no matter what happened Rydia always felt comfortable around her. They didn’t need to fill the silence, they could walk quietly and know that nothing was wrong, well for the most part, and during all of this silence Rydia was seriously considering just sucking up her feelings right now and making a small stop to Baron before returning to Eblan to try and sort this focus thing out, but up ahead on the trail…there was something else that needed to be given attention.
Rydia was off like a shot, running and trying to catch up with the walking figure who was carrying a blonde woman over his shoulder. It was certainly an odd sight, their clothing was very different compared to Rydia’s or even Rosa’s, so Rydia had to assume that they were not from around here. She’d had her fair share of dealing with portals, and the hospitality she was given, she decided that it was time to return the favor, that is why she wanted to catch up to the large dark haired man before she lost them from her sight. With Rosa in tow, Rydia picked up her pace slightly, kind of surprised that Rosa was able to keep up, and even though she wasn’t showing that she was pregnant yet, she knew that it must’ve been getting difficult these days to keep up with things like this. She didn’t expect Rosa to do much of anything to pick up her pace, so Rydia just decided to take it easy towards the end and finally shouted out towards the man. It had gained his attention and caused him to stop, which meant Rydia and Rosa could stop running.
Her pace was a slight walk, almost half jog as Rydia then stopped in front of the man with the girl over his shoulder. He seemed like an intimidating figure, but Rydia wasn’t all that scared. She knew that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, there was more to people than what you saw upon first glance. Just as she was about to say something, Rosa had spoken, asking about the woman and the man seemed to open up from that question. He’d moved the girl he had to the grass and laid her down. Rydia peered at her and frowned, she looked like she had a fever unlike any she’d ever seen before, the closest thing she could match with this image was what Rosa had that illness, just as her and Cecil had found Rosa after meeting Edward. Desert fever, was that what it was called? Rydia was still a tiny child at the time, but she remembered it clear as day, they needed to go search for a crystal to cure her, and if this just so happen to be the same case, well then, that wasn’t good.
Tilting her head and listening at the big guy explained what happened, Rydia shot a glance at Rosa. She was the best white mage Rydia knew, so if Rosa couldn’t heal this woman, then it had to be something beyond their power. Something like…the desert fever. It sounded awful and Rydia was thankful not to have suffered anything like this. She was on board to help this man and his friend out if push came to shove and he did need their help. She was sure that Rosa would join the bandwagon and help out, besides, she was super nice as it was, not the type to just shake her head and bail when someone was in trouble or needed help. “Rosa? What do you think?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 794 Muse: Great! As the man knelt to rest the pretty blonde on the ground, Rosa bent her own knee as well. This was the area she was good at. Hearing his words, Rosa blinked and then looked down at the body, resting there. Pale, very pale, with flushed features. Not good. His explanation worried her as well. Still, as a healer, she was used to not saying anything that would make them think it was impossible to help. For all she knew right at the moment, it could be easy as a simple cure spell she knew. They could only hope that was the case. With another little sigh, Rosa caught his ‘slightly psychotic’ words, and blinked. Glancing up at him, she rose her eyebrow a few degrees before glancing down at her ‘patient.’ He must be tied to her in some way, as he seemed attached to the blonde he had laid on the ground. She could only hope that she didn’t disappoint him. “It could be as simple as a bad infection which my cure spells will fix. Let’s hope for that and try it. “
Getting to her knees and brushing off her hands, Rosa glanced down, concentrating on the woman. Raising her hands out, it wasn’t but a moment before white light started to swirl around her fingers. Hoping yet once more that this would do the trick, Rosa allowed the magic to transfer from her hands to the body below her. For a few moments, she thought it would work. The woman showed signs of revival and even groaned a few times, trying to get up. “Come on.” The words of encouragement apparently didn’t help, as the woman finally flopped back to the ground. Inwardly cursing the luck, Rosa then started to unwrap the bandage that was present over her shoulder. "No good." Whoever had done it, -probably this man here however- had done as good a job as any amateur when it came to healing. The smell of the salve was there, so obviously he had tried. Moving the bandaging away from the shoulder wound, she looked at it with expert eyes. She had seen so many wounds that it was nothing new. Still, it was a nasty looking one at that.
Already it was inflamed and pussy, the red showing off the infection. Still, she didn’t see-…wait a second. Peering closer, she studied how the skin had been ripped. That seemed…familiar. Wracking her brain with all the beasts of Mist, she tried to think about what would make that particular wound. It was by no means a clean bite, and so it had to be one of those smaller, more savage, but less precise creatures. She was deep in thought, and was wondering too about what this could be. Obviously simple cure wouldn’t help. His explanation of how she had been acting…it sounded like something she had seen before, yet, she couldn’t place exactly whe-…the desert fever. But could that be? She had thought of no beasts around here that could do such a particular ripping wound. Rydia’s question made her head come up, before coming back to ground level. “I’m…not one hundred percent sure…but…”
Turning her attention to the male, she had to ask him a few questions. “These beasts that attacked you. Were they smaller dog like creatures, black, with large mouths?” If so, then they would have a long road ahead of them, getting this poor female back into shape. Glancing at Rydia, she wondered. What would desert like dogs be doing here by Mist? Those were what had caused her desert fever, she was sure of it. Despite her own insanity during that time period, she swore she could remember at least a few things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 821 Muse:; Great! With two friendly looking women to come to his aid – at the best time of course – Gladiolus felt a little better about taking care of Kirtana, but as he had laid her on the ground to let the blonde woman examine her, he sat back, his hands clasped together, nearly twiddling his thumbs and waiting to see what she would say. From the looks and sounds of what the girls had been saying, they both probably knew more about the medical field than Gladiolus could ever hope to know, the blonde though, she seemed more of a strict white mage than the jade haired woman. That didn’t mean anything though, some people just knew their stuff more than others, and Gladiolus was thanking every lucky star he had that these two ladies had come across him, seeing how bad things looked, he just…he wasn’t sure what to say, so for now, he let the silence settle in around him, which wasn’t all that rare, nor was it all that normal. It didn’t happen often, but now…now was one of those moments where silence really was golden.
When the blonde spoke, saying it could be just an infection, Gladiolus wasn’t too sure. His face wasn’t all that reassuring to her comments as he sat on the ground, his hands now resting against his knees but still clasped together as he waited, like some poor fool waiting in a hospital, except he was getting to see it all first hand. His eyes wandered a bit, watching the blonde, Kirtana – he didn’t want to look at her right now, it was too painful to witness the looks on her face – and then his eyes also went to the jade haired woman who seemed just as in thought as the blonde. They knew what was up, he didn’t, it was best to be quiet, give them some space, and let them figure out what was really wrong with Kirtana. If they couldn’t figure out what was up and what was causing these…not mood swings, but memory gaps, well…then who could?
The magic the blonde had tried didn’t work. That made his heard sink a little bit. She was a mage, but magic couldn’t fix absolutely everything. Glady had his own puzzled look on his face as his eyes seemed to fixed on Kirtana’s face, just watching how painful all of it must be, how feverish she looked, he couldn’t help but feel sorry for her, but saying sorry wouldn’t do much. What happened was done and over with, there was no way to change that, all he could do was sit and hope that these girls had some other ideas up their sleeves, if not…well then it was pretty much hopeless wasn’t it? God, where was Prompto when you needed him? If Gladiolus was getting this down in the dumps who was going to pull him out of that? Usually his peppy blonde friend took care of that easily, but he wasn’t here, so of course, Glady seemed to let the feeling of being hopeless continue to sink in. He wanted to whisk Kirtana off her feet…er off the ground, and get to the nearest medical center possible, if they even had one of those, he wasn’t sure, would legitimate doctors know what was up? He couldn’t be sure, but whatever it was…it was starting to drive him crazy. Him, of all people.
When being spoken to, Gladiolus looked up to meet the eyes of the blonde woman speaking. With a hesitation, he thought back as to what the creatures looked like, the ones he had slain, and the one that had gotten Kirtana’s shoulder when he should’ve been looking out for her. Some guardian he was turning out to be. “Uh…now that you mention it, I guess that’s what they looked like. Weren’t huge, but weren’t harmless, as you can see. Your description seems to fit them.” Gladiolus spoke with a small shrug before gazing at Kirtana for half a second and waiting, waiting to see what either of them would say, from the sounds of it, the blonde had a theory, but before Glady could go any further, he already needed to throw out many thanks their way, for even stopping, for helping him this much, even though there was nothing they could really do, so first…brief introductions were in order. “Thank you for your help by the way. Not sure how long I could’ve been walking and let Kirtana get any worse. That’s her name, Kirtana…and I’m Gladiolus, thank you…” he was never great with words, and introductions at that matter, but…it was important, hopefully there was more he could be told about the condition about Kirtana, before things worsened. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 905 Muse: Great! Hmm, strange, yet so familiar.
Rydia kneeled down a bit, resting her hands on her knees as she loomed over the shoulders of Rosa and the dark haired man to peer at the blonde woman. It looked familiar in some places, yet it could always be something unknown to Rydia or even Rosa. Hopefully for this woman and man’s sake, it was nothing Rosa couldn’t handle. Rydia had been a good white mage before, but after the Feymarch, most of her talents had been focused on black magic and summons, not to say she couldn’t conjure up a cure spell here and there, it was just more Rosa’s forte than her own. Watching carefully as the dark haired man sat back, that look on his face of utter defeat, Rydia stood up straight and moved to Rosa’s side, between Rosa and the dark haired man. She gave him a sincere yet very small smile to try and ease his obvious nerves while Rosa looked the woman over.
With a failed attempt at magic, Rydia was stumped. She looked just as puzzled as anyone else who was in on the situation. Placing a hand under her chin as Rosa had unwrapped the wound that had at least been tended to, she grimaced a bit, looking at the painful tear in the blonde girl’s skin. It looked more than painful, it looked…well, gross to be quite honest. Nothing Rydia’s stomach couldn’t handle though. She still felt bad for the man, he obviously cared for this woman and was seemingly worried about her, she believed that, and it warmed her heart, yet it also made her feel bad. Should something happen to this girl of his…well, Rydia wasn’t sure how one could handle that. Then again, she knew what it was like to lose someone you loved, ironically, she and Rosa had come from visiting her mother’s grave just outside of Mist. How ironic, but it seemed they were in the right place at the right time, lucky for this guy, whoever he was and from wherever he came, they had come along and crossed paths at the best time. Should it have been later, this woman, whoever she was, she could be long gone by now. Rydia didn’t even want to think of that as a possibility.
When Rosa spoke again, questioning the animal’s looks, Rydia blinked and folded her hands in her lap, listening and remaining silent. Putting the pieces together, her mind went back to Kaipo, back to when she was a little girl after having separated Cecil and Kain, she remembered Rosa had gotten desert fever, something very…unpleasant and they had to go search for something, a crystal with Edward’s help. That spoony bard, shame he wasn’t here now, he might’ve been able to spot something like this right away…then again maybe not, he could’ve cried about it. Shrugging her shoulders a bit and listening to the man’s response, Rydia looked back at Rosa with wide eyes. She understood this now. Those creatures, they were desert creatures. Why would they be lurking as far as Mist? That was another question for another day, right now, there really was a long road ahead. “Does this mean we have to walk to Kaipo now? I mean…that is a long walk, Rosa. Is there anything we can find more…local?” Rydia said rising to her feet, the man was probably clueless, especially by the look on his face as he waited for some sort of explanation.
“Is it for sure desert fever?”
Then the introductions came forward, brief, thoughtful, and it did bring a more comforting smile to the summoner's face as she looked down at the man who introduced himself as Gladiolus, his girlfriend or whatever she was to him, as Kirtana. Interesting, but then again, Rydia wasn't a typical name. Remaining where she was beside the woman, Rosa looked at her up and down, checking her eyes, her pulse, her complexion and just trying to see if it might be anything other then what she thought it was. If it was what she thought it was, then she pitied this poor man, and would offer to help in any way she could. She didn’t know if it would help at all, but she might know a thing or two of how to help him. She had had the disease herself after all. What he said though, cemented it in her brain. There could be no other reason. Sitting back on her heel slightly, she pondered what he said. Rydia’s talking made her nod. Glancing at her friend then, Rosa almost told her that she shouldn’t help. With her…condition, Rosa didn’t want her getting into any extra hurt or pain. Knowing the young summoner though, not helping would be completely out of the question. She knew how she could get. Very stubborn, just like herself, and so she slowly nodded. “It means she has the desert fever. I’m…not sure if we have to go to Kaipo to cure it though.” Thinking more, she shook her head. “Perhaps…there is sand pearl closer to us. When you went to Kaipo to get the sand pearl for me after I’d contracted the illness…Cecil gave it to the couple that had taken me in. Yet from what I hear, they sent it to the white mages in Baron. Apparently wanting to make sure that if someone else got it, they could be directed there in order to obtain help. Perhaps I’m wrong, but hopefully the mages at the castle still have it.”
Rosa glanced up at the tall man when he thanked them. Waving her hand, she listened to Rydia tell him not to thank them, and nodded. “Rydia’s right, we haven’t done anything yet. I hope the mages still have the desert pearl, because if so, we can cure her. If not…well then we might have a problem, since that’s the only known cure for the disease she has, which, by the way, is called desert fever. It’s contracted by the beasts you must have seen, yet they don’t normally leave Kaipo, the desert. Obviously they did for some reason though, and when they bite you, it’s like it overtakes your body and brain. First, they simply show odd signs and symptoms. Perhaps odd memories, past events, or hallucinations. After that, eventually, it continues to progress until you’re at the state she’s in, simply lying there, unable to move. Even in that stage, however, there’s the chance that she might have periods where she seems to have recovered. I can remember a few hours or minutes where I snapped back to reality, but I kept hallucinating. It’s not uncurable though, so if we can get to that pearl, we can counteract the disease.”
Glancing at them both again, her gaze settled back on the woman. “My name is Rosa Joanna Harvey, queen of Baron, but more importantly, I’m a healer. I hope we can help you with the woman.” Leaning forward once more to look at her eye by pulling the eyelid back, Rosa peered into it, noting that she seemed blurry eyed, like there was something in them. That was definitely the same, so it had to be desert fever. Right at that moment the woman groaned, before her eyes opened by themselves. Smiling slightly, Rosa started to greet her. She had been looking up, somewhat startled at what she saw, people hovering around her. Then, Kirtana’s gaze hit Gladiolus, and instantly Rosa heard a low growl in her throat. The next instant she was being brushed aside, the woman leaping to her feet, only to reach weak legs and fall back down onto her knees, panting. Rosa had been knocked down slightly, before getting back to her feet, staring at the woman who had come alive, and seemed hell bent on being angry. “Hey, hey, it’s okay,” she tried to sooth, eyes glancing from Gladiolus to Kirtana, as the blonde glanced all around, like a wild animal being hunted. “I’ll be damned if you’re going to take me in for questioning.” Questioning? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 933 Muse:; Great! Gladiolus was more than thankful, he wasn’t sure what the two girls had been talking about most of the time, this desert fever or whatever, he was completely foreign to this world and knew next to nothing about medical illnesses or being a white mage of sorts. He simply knew how to bull doze people with his strength and wipe them out completely, not put them back together. Really, he was a lost cause, making him even more thankful to have stumbled across someone who knew what the hell they were doing. His eyes were on Kirtana most of the time, occasionally flickering to the other blonde and her jade haired friend. The blonde knew more about being a white mage, and the green haired girl seemed more like a beam of support, remaining optimistic with her words which did make Glady feel a bit better, knowing there was some hope for whatever they would be doing to cure whatever this desert fever was. As the two girls conversed, Gladiolus remained silent, trying to catch on to what they were saying and piece together, as if he knew what they were talking about in the first place.
There was the name of that town again, Baron. When the blonde woman started explaining things – after she and the green haired girl told him not to thank them just yet – Gladiolus started to understand the extend of what Kirtana was feeling. Why she was acting the way she was, hallucinations, memories and just messed up in the head all around, it made perfect sense now, and all he wanted to do was find this pearl thing and get it all taken care of. If they could find it in this Baron town place, then things would be easier, otherwise they’d have to travel, right? If he heard the green haired girl correctly, they’d have to travel to Kaipo, and to hell with a map, Gladiolus had no idea where anywhere was around here, so he’d really have to lay his and Kirtana’s lives in the hands of these two women whom he had just met, but he felt pretty confident about that, they seemed nice and like they knew what they were doing, that was all that mattered, and that’s why they deserved the thanks they had gotten.
Giving both women a small nod at their introductions. “Rosa, Rydia, even if you haven’t done anything yet, I still have to thank you for taking the time to look her over.” He spoke sincerely, knowing he was now in the presence of a queen, it wasn’t all that different than being in Noct’s presence, after all, he was a prince. He knew how to treat royalty, with respect and kindness, that was pretty much how he treated everyone, unless your name was Prompto, he got the sarcastic wise ass version of Gladiolus, and he got that very version of Prompto in return. They were the true definition of bros. Glady’s eyes flickered back to Kirtana as she moved around, seeming to get a bit hostile but fell to her knees, Gladiolus wasn’t going to let her start attacking his newfound acquaintances. They were trying to help not only himself, but Kirtana as well. Frowning slightly as she talked about being taken in for questioning, he decided it was time to get going and stop delaying her from being cured. Giving a look in Rosa and Rydia’s direction, Gladiolus spoke up once more. “We need to get going to this Baron place, I will let you two lead the way.”
With that said and done, Gladiolus moved over to Kirtana and picked her up again as well as her weapon, and if she threw a hissy fit, he’d just tighten his grip around her, not being so nicey nice would be easier when it came to getting her to cooperate. With his own woman over his shoulder, he stood up on his feet and glanced along the path he had been taking, whether it was leading to Baron or not, he knew the way back would lead to that Mist place. “Whenever you’re ready.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 784 Muse: Good! This looked all too familiar to Rydia, she was pretty sure ever since Rosa mentioned the name ‘Desert Fever’ that that is what it was. Judging by the state of things, it had to be desert fever, she remembered having to travel and find the pearl treatment for Rosa, with Cecil and the help of that spoony bard, Edward, of course. Giving a small frown as she looked at Rosa while she spoke, Rydia occasionally glanced towards the blonde woman on the ground and her companion who looked not only confused but also worried for his friend’s well being. “Well the first thing we can do is head to Baron and see if by any chance those mages have the cure, if not, I guess we’ll be doing a bit of traveling, hm?” Rydia said tilting her head a bit, clasping her hands together and trying to remain as positive as possible, to try and ease the nerves of the larger man who seemed far too worried for his own good, she had to appreciate that, at least he cared.
With thanks and introductions that the man now known as Gladiolus had bestowed to the girls was unnecessary. Rydia herself hadn’t done anything, Rosa deserved any if not all the thanks should they even be said in the first place. Shrugging and continuing to listen to Rosa, she nodded, as if to confirm everything her friend had been saying, the desert fever was rare out in these parts, but apparently it wasn’t impossible. Shooting at glance at Glady to try and read his face, Rydia felt as if he understood things a bit better, he knew the symptoms and could understand the way things went, leaving him less in the dark and giving him an idea as to what to look for and watch out for. When Rosa started hovering over the sickly woman, she folded her hands in her lap and waited to see what else would come their way, they probably needed to get a move on to Baron before things got worse for this…Kirtana woman.
Watching as the fallen woman had opened her eyes upon her own accord, and seeing a bit hostile, Rydia scrambled to her feet and watched as Rosa had been pushed out of the way slightly, a frown appearing on Rydia’s face, but she knew it wasn’t anything all that bad, she couldn’t blame the woman, one, Rosa was a stranger all up on her face, and two, she had the desert fever, any actions could not be held personal towards her. Shaking her head slightly at the girl’s words, Rydia put her hands behind her back and shot a glance at Rosa, realizing that Kirtana was a in a pretty bad state, hostility and a possible threat, but far too weak to really do any damage, not to mention it wouldn’t go unnoticed that Gladiolus seemed like a strong guy, he was big and didn’t seem to fazed by Kirtana’s sudden speaking and the way she was talking. An obvious tough guy, and she was thankful for that should something actually happen, and just as she was thinking about this guy’s strength, he had picked up Kirtana again and the girl’s weapon, yeah…they were good for now and he was right, they needed to get going.
“Okay, let’s get going then, the sooner we get to Baron the better.” Rydia said with a confirming nod before stepping past Gladiolus, she had stopped though, waiting for Rosa since they actually knew the way from here to Baron. Rydia hadn’t been planning on making a pit stop in Baron, but her plans had suddenly changed, she wanted to be helpful even if she didn’t do anything significant aside from adding moral support to all of this and a positive attitude. “It won’t take long to get to Baron, we’re a good ways from Mist already…” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 746 Muse: Good! Nodding her head to what Rydia said, she was thankful yet again that her friend was there. “Yes, we’ll go to Baron first. I just pray that the mages haven’t done anything to ruin the pearl or shipped it anywhere else. I would understand if there had been any more breakouts of the desert fever, but to my knowledge, there hasn’t been.” Of course, there could be cases that hadn’t been reported, to either the mages or herself, but Rosa was fairly confident that she would have heard if there had been anything else like that. The mages dealt with many many things, including curing and things such as that, but Rosa, having trained under their guidance, and being the queen of Baron, knew that they trusted her and were willing to tell her most of the going ons that happened in their large building. Besides, she went there quite a bit in order to brush up on her skills and to learn new cures and spells. So she was almost positive that if there had been a case and they had gone there with the pearl to cure it, that she would have known about it. And so with a slight sigh, she nodded and hoped deep within that they did indeed have the cure back at Baron. It would make everything a whole lot easier.
When the woman came alive so to speak, Rosa drew back, getting to her feet and avoiding the fist that would have connected to her head. She didn’t hold anything against this woman. Really, how could she? It was obvious that she wasn’t right in the head, so how could she even know how she was acting? From her own personal experience, Rosa knew that most of the actions you couldn’t control whatsoever. She could relate, and felt pity as well. Pity that this woman had to go through what no human should have to. Holding her hands up to try and calm the poor woman down, she noted everything about her stance and what she was saying. Interrogation? Light eyes flickered from the tall man that obviously cared a great deal for the woman, to Rydia, who seemed concerned, but not scared, and then back to the woman, who was holding herself rigidly, using all her remaining strength to simply stand. This Kirtana couldn’t hurt any of them, even if she did want to try, which by looks, she did. What sort of past had she had to drudge up such awful memories?
When Gladiolus simply picked her up, Rosa blinked, but couldn’t help but smile. Quite the pair. All she heard then as the woman tried in vain to struggle out of his grip, was the swearing and the threats. “Goddamn, you big son of a-…” hesitation as the woman tried to catch her breath, face now pressing up against his back. “Let me go,” she said, her voice continuing to get weaker and weaker. Rosa felt some concern, not only as a human being, but also as a healer. She hated knowing that there was nothing she could do to ease the suffering that she was going through. It was odd really, how this couldn’t be cured any other way. “Please,” came her final plea before the woman slumped again, lost in darkness and started moaning his name once more. Obviously she had a bond, despite how she was acting now.
Rosa nodded and started walking at a good clip. Despite being pregnant, she could still move very well, the babe hardly showing at all yet. The hadn’t been walking for hardly any time at all when suddenly Rosa heard the screeching of a beast. Winged more then likely. “Rydia, we’re going to have company. Gladiolus, you just make sure that woman stays safe, we can handle this, right Ry?” The next instant the winged beasts that had made the noise showed themselves. Carefully judging the distance, Rosa expertly pulled the bow from off her back, an arrow coming just as quickly. Notching the arrow with the same expertise, Rosa closed an eye, feeling the string tighten as she drew it back with her fingers. Taking a breath, she hesitated a mere second and let the arrow fly, instantly taking another. True to her aim, the arrow took the beast directly in the eye, causing it to shriek and plummet to the earth. Instantly her gaze was directed toward another as the small flock headed toward them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 944 Muse:; Great! It seemed like it was time to hit the road again. Rydia gave a nod of approval at Rosa and Gladiolus, saying she was ready to get going, and as she watched the large man pick up his companion, Rydia smirked a bit at her retaliation, she wondered how this woman acted on a normal basis, but it was needless to say that Gladiolus was strong enough to handle, of that Rydia was absolutely sure. Smiling a bit as they started off, Glady letting the two natives lead the way, Rydia felt a bit more optimistic about all of this, she was sure that the cure would be in Baron, and how convenient, that was exactly where she and Rosa were heading anyways! Helping and getting to your destination all at the same time, how nice was that? Well, Glady seemed rather thankful, and Rydia had long forgotten the sadness of today and her focus as well. In fact, it was as if today never happened, she was quite chipper, the feeling of despair still hadn’t hit her yet, the further she put it off, the harder it would hit her.
“So, Gladiolus, where are you guys from? I’ve been through a portal before, it was…quite interesting.” Rydia commented for small talk during the first few steps, she was curious and wanted to know what was up, and in exchange she’d be more than happy to answer a few questions should he have any, but as Gladiolus was about to reply, he was so rudely interrupted by a screeching sound, causing Rydia’s gaze to flicker ahead, her serious expression now on her face as her eyes scanned the sky and instantly Rosa was giving out brief orders. Giving her friend a nod, she looked over her shoulder at Gladiolus who didn’t seem to be as…easygoing about letting two women fight off the beasts while he sat back holding onto Kirtana. “Don’t you worry, we’re experts and fighting off things that are undesired.” Rydia assured him. “Okay…I mean, if you’re sure. First sign of a losing battle, and I’m leaping in.” Gladiolus bargained before stepping back and away from the two women, letting them have their battle against the now visible winged creatures.
“We’ve got this, Rosa. I don’t even think I’ll have to summon!” Rydia’s tone was pretty serious, with a hint of chipperness as she took a step forward to be on the same plane as her friend. She watched Rosa instantly have her bow and let an arrow fly, such excellent aim from the blonde, it was so great, sometimes Rydia felt the need to applaud, but that could come later. Focusing on the small group of creatures, Rydia felt the magic go to her hands, feeling it tickle at her fingertips before she flung a hand out and up gracefully towards the beasts, attacking them with a thunder attack, shocking them in place and causing a few of them to falter. If Rydia could get them to stop in their…air tracks? Then Rosa could shoot them down. So long as they didn’t twist or twirl away from Rosa’s arrows. “I’ll stun them, you finish them off, okay Rosa?” She asked, not really thinking there’d be an objection to her idea, it was flawless! Real teamwork, and with that said and done, Rydia began throwing more thunder and air magic at the flying monsters, to get them to stop or become delayed, the rest was up to the archer.
Gladiolus stood back, Kirtana over his arm as he watched the two girls go to town on these flying whatever they were. His eyes watched their movements, two pretty women, yet very successful on a battlefield. Then again, Kirtana was the same way, though her attire wasn’t as misleading as say…Rosa’s or Rydia’s. He never would’ve expected such damage to come from a healer and a chipper young lass like Rydia. It was another moment for him to realize that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, and as he continued to watch the two, the only word that could escape his lips was, “damn,” and that was in awe of their abilities. Damn was correct. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 822 Muse: Goodish! Tagged: Rosa, Glady, Kirtana Wearing: Her usual. Listening To: Something! With her bow out in a seconds notice, Rosa studied the fight of the beasts that were flapping their wing, cawing, and making their way, swooping toward them. Judging the distance, Rosa crouched down, bowstring pulled back until her fingers grazed her cheek, and then after measuring with her eyes, the first shot was off. True to its aim, it slammed through the eye of the beast, causing it to fall to the ground, flopping around a tad before finally shuddering and laying still. Instantly another arrow was fitted into her bowstring, eyes searching for another target. Briefly she heard the man tell them that he could also help out if needed. Sparing him a glance, once again noting the powerful muscles knotting his body, the height, build, she had no doubt that he did indeed know what he was doing around a fight. And if they needed it, he would be right there offering backup. Odd, but despite him being virtually a stranger, he was giving her words of comfort just by knowing that he was there to help should they need it.
Still, they shouldn’t need the help. They had helped save the world after all. Sparing a smile at Rydia at her mention that she wouldn’t have to summon, she nodded, looking once again for a target. As they swooped and swirled through the foliage, Rosa was finding it hard to get a perfect shot at one. Still, as if she had wished it, she got a clear shot. Without hesitating, a second arrow flew from the string. Without taking her eyes off her target, Rosa once more had another arrow notched and ready. The second arrow had taken the beast through the neck, harming it critically without killing it. As it plummeted to the ground, squawking and carrying on, Rosa’s third arrow flew out, killing it and ending its misery. Everyone had a bad shot every once in awhile, which she had by not killing it the first time.
With a puff of breath, Rosa felt the ground rumble from the magic Rydia was no doubt summoning. At Rydia’s words she once again nodded, eyes following the movements of the beasts. "Yes, perfect. Just set them up and I’ll take them down.” As the magic overtook the birds Rosa was thankful that she always carried a good amount of arrows with her. A fourth was produced, shooting a stunned beast as it fell from the sky. Instantly a fifth was let loose, killing a severely injured beast as it roared and flopped from the ground. Sixth caught one and slammed it into a tree behind it, arrow embedding itself into the beast and tree, pinning it there. So the carnage went on, until each of them lay dead on the ground, whether it be from arrows or magic, which had also killed a good many. Wiping her brow, Rosa glanced at her quiver. Still fairly filled, but she hated to waste arrows. Smiling over at her friend with a child like enthusiasm, she felt adrenaline rushing through her body. “Got them good Rydia.”
The next moment she had slung her bow over her torso and went to retrieve her arrows. Pulling them deftly from the bodies of the beasts, Rosa didn’t hesitate to look at their dead bodies, but continued on, this way and that, removing arrows from the dead beasts. Having retrieved them all, Rosa returned to the other three, carefully stuffing the arrows back in her quiver. “That was quite a little escapade. Ready?”, she added quickly, before they were once again on their way, well into the journey back to Baron. Hopefully they would be able to help this man when they got there. And get there they did. It didn't take long before Baron loomed in the distance. "We're almost there," she assured the man by pointing off into the city that was coming up, who she was sure was wanting to get this over with quickly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 862 Muse:; Great! Welp, from walking and trying to make small talk to shooting down winged creatures. It just went to show that the big hulky guys didn’t have to take care of absolutely everything that was threatening. Rydia and Rosa were both very powerful in their own ways. They were an assistance that was greatly needed, like when they had helped defeat Zemus. Ha! Edge and all the boys thought they got rid of those two girls, but nope, and they proved to be a great team, all of them. With a smirky smile on her face because of the memory, Rydia gazed up at the winged creatures and started gracefully flicking her wrists this way and that, striking them with magic to keep them at bay and make them easier for Rosa to shoot down with her arrows. Thunder magic did the best, it not only shocked them and stunned them for a moment, but it also inflicted damage. Aero magic was also good, pushing them back and making them fight against the wind to advance towards them, never once did those creatures get close, thanks to Rosa and Rydia.
Hearing a tone of disbelief behind them, Rydia smiled even more at the ‘damn’ they both had received. “We sure did. They didn’t know what was waiting for them over here.” She chimed rather happily as she took her long sleeve and tapped it against her forehead, wiping the small bit of sweat from her forehead. Using magic did wear you out, but when you were dependent on it for battle or anything else, you got used to that feeling that drained you. You sort of built up a resistance against it, Rydia wasn’t too worn out, but she could definitely feel the effects of having thrown so much magic around in a short period of time. Oh well, hopefully by now they would just be walking, should something else come along though, they’d be fine, as stated before, they were a lot tougher than some people would give them credit for. Oh well. When Rosa returned from the creatures with her arrows, Rydia gave her a small nod, saying she was ready before turning back to face the larger man who still looked at the two in awe. “I’m ready, are you ready, Gladiolus?”
It was an amazing and slightly unexpected sight. Gladiolus had been watching the girls take down those creatures with such ease…it was amazing, and something else. Blinking for a few moments and watching the girls, he knew that you should never judge a book by its cover, and this was one of those prime examples. “Yeah I’m ready, let’s go.” He said nodding to both the blonde and the green haired girl, Rosa and Rydia, before adjusting Kirtana on his shoulder and starting off on a quick stride to match both girls. Following behind them for only a short while, Gladiolus made sure to cover the rear, make sure nothing came up from behind them and tried to attack them while they were walking to Baron, after all, these girls didn’t have to help him, keeping them safe or at least alert them should something head there way was the least he could do. “Almost there, eh? The sooner the better. Kirtana hasn’t stirred since we left…I’m…” his voice trailed.
Staring at the city getting larger and larger with each passing step, Gladiolus began to wonder, why not ask the question now though? It wouldn’t hurt would it? “So, whenever we find this…whatever it is, the cure, is there anything special we’re supposed to do with it?” He asked raising an eyebrow, still following behind them, occasionally looking at the woman he was carrying over his shoulder and wondering if she would be okay, if it wasn’t too late already. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 732 Muse: Terribad! Time to get this done. Giving the girl another glance as the man slung her up in his arms once more, Rosa felt this fear that they wouldn’t be able to help the blonde that lay motionless in his arms. As a white mage, Rosa had always taken it hard when she hadn’t been able to save someone. It happened very seldom, but she knew the chances of this working were slim to none. The chances of everything lining up, of the desert pearl being back with the white mages, and that it would work and be the same disease was a small possibility. Those opinions and thoughts weren’t voiced however. Instead the young blonde just kept up the encouraging talk that she had. If she kept saying over and over again that this plan would work and everything would be in exactly the right places, then would it come true? She could only hope. Otherwise, she didn’t want to face the disappointment on this mans face when he figured out that the disease was incurable other then the pearl. If they couldn’t find the pearl that had healed her, could they find another one? was there another pearl? She could only hope there was.
When they had almost made it to Baron, she mentioned so, hearing his voice as well. His mention of the woman caused aqua eyes to turn to the lithe woman, resting so limply in his arms. Every once in awhile his name would be moaned from her lips. She didn’t have a whole lot of time left. This woman’s disease must be faster progressing then hers had been, as Rosa had gone days before getting to this phase completely, while it had happened to her in a matter of hours it seemed. When he trailed off it squeezed at her heart. Placing a hand on his arm, she squeezed encouragingly, forcing a bright smile onto her lips. “Yes, we’re almost there. In under a half hour we will be by the white mages, asking them if they have the pearl.” Confidence, she needed that. Squaring her shoulders again, she set her jaw, eyes determined. They would rescue this woman, no doubt about it. She would be on the road to recovery by the end of this day. “She will get better Gladiolus. She will, don’t allow yourself to lose hope.” At his question about if they should do something with it, she hesitated. “I’m not exactly sure. I had the sickness but I don’t know what they did with the pearl. I’m sure one of the white mages will know.” She had absolute faith in the mages, especially the older men and women that had been there while she was growing up, taught her everything they had known.
Stepping close to the gate, a man appeared up above. Signaling to the man, Rosa cupped hands to her mouth. “Queen Harvey sir, please open the gate.”, she stated, holding herself with the regal poise of the queen she was. The man studied her for no more then a moment before saluting and opening the gate, brightly smiling and waving to her. It was no secret that she as much a commoner as a queen. Not having been raised a princess, she still felt she was one of the ‘lower class’ people that resided in their wonderful city, and regularly visited them. Stepping through the gate, Rosa was instantly surrounded by people bowing their heads and telling her greetings. Smiling and waving back, Rosa quickly led them through the city outskirts, headed for the castle that loomed in front of them. Hopefully the mages would have the pearl. Opening the door to the castle, a hand maiden instantly appeared at her side. “Queen Rosa. King Cecil was worried and asked about you. I assured him that you would be fine, but if at all possible, you might want to reassure him yourself of your safe return.” Nodding and thanking her, Rosa dismissed her and cut to the right, headed for the large part of the castle she had asked Cecil to set aside for the white mages. “This way.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 897 Muse:; Great! Rydia felt Gladiolus’ unfinished words tug at her own heartstrings. She wasn’t sure what there was to say, she didn’t know the outcome of course, but she tried her best to give him an optimistic and very encouraging look as Rosa took the lead on being sympathetic. She tried her best to be as optimistic as possible, not letting even her own horrors bring her down, at least not now, she wanted Gladiolus to be happy, to be just as optimistic about this as she and Rosa was. If anything, if Rosa said something was going to happen, then it was best to believe her, Rydia always did. With a chipper smile and nod, agreeing to her blond friend’s words, she turned and kept walking just a few steps ahead of Gladiolus and Rosa, leaving her friend to take care of the cheering up and assuring that Glady obviously needed.
Feeling the squeeze of a hand on his arm, Gladiolus moved his gaze towards the blond, Rosa, and listened to her hopeful words. She seemed awfully determined and knew for a fact that that Kirtana would get better, he hoped she was right, if anything happened…he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to forgive himself for letting Kirtana out of his sight and not being able to protect her. It was probably that huge hero complex he had that was starting to kick him. He wanted to protect her – as well as anyone else he came into contact with, that was just who he was – and because she was injured, because she was hurt and possibly going into a worse state than she was a little bit ago…it was just really hurting him. Making him feel like a bit of a failure, he’d failed to protect her…if anything happened, he’d have no one to blame but himself, and that was what scared him, even with Rosa’s encouraging words and Rydia’s optimistic smiles. “I sure hope you’re right, Rosa. Right now though…I can’t really stay all that optimistic, I’m sure you understand…the sooner this is done the better, and when that’s done…then I can be happy about things. Until then…sorry for being a downer.” Glady shrugged towards Rosa, still looking down and almost worried as they continued onwards, ready to get to Baron, find the pearl and get Kirtana healed…Gladiolus wasn’t as optimistic as the girls, but maybe that’d change in due time.
Continuing onwards, Rydia just listened to the silence between all of those whom she was with, two people of which could speak and one who was getting ill and could only groan out a few words, most of which seemed to be Gladiolus’ name. She sounded awful, as if she were dying or something…that wasn’t something Gladiolus needed to hear though. Rydia was concerned enough as it was, and she knew that the man was even more worried than she was, after all, this…Kirtana was his significant other, right? Nearing the gate leading into Baron, Rydia put herself between Rosa and Gladiolus, letting her blond friend lead the way, after all, she was the Queen, and she knew exactly where she was going and what she was seeking. Trailing behind her, she heard Gladiolus mutter something in regards to her being a queen and being kind enough to assist, it brought a small smile to her face, but she simply kept her head held high and facing forward, following Rosa wherever she went. “Keep your head up, Glady! We’re almost there.” Rydia chimed, not looking over her shoulder or anything, but she hoped her optimism and the reality of them actually being here would brighten his mood.
Following Rosa, Rydia couldn’t help but smile a bit at the words of Cecil being worried. Of course he was, it wouldn’t be a normal day if he wasn’t worried about his wife. Rydia shook her head at the words and let a small laugh escape her lips before she shrugged her shoulders and commented, “same old Cecil,” before following once more putting a more serious look on her face as her stance even straightened up, hearing Gladiolus walk just as quick behind her, she was almost anxious to get this done, it was about time someone was happy. “Rosa, we need to hurry up, I don’t think we can afford to waste time. The mages better be in and ready to help, if not, you could always sick some of that queen power on them, right?” that was somewhat of a joke, but somewhat true. No one would reject to help Queen Rosa Harvey as it was, all they needed was a little faith in the mages here, Kirtana would be well in no time. “Let’s get a move on.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 902 Muse: Good!
