Rosa couldn’t say that she didn’t understand what he was going through. Nodding her head when he mentioned that he couldn’t be happy until this was all over with, she shook her head to stave off his apology. “Please Gladiolus, no need to apologize. I fully understand that in some situations-“ with a small pause, barely evident, Rosa glanced at Rydia before she continued. “-finding the motivation to continue acting as if nothing is wrong can be hard.” Rydia’s own situation was a tribute to that. Rosa didn’t know how she continued to be so positive about it, but she would follow suit to the younger woman and try to act as if nothing was going on. It was hard though. She wondered how Cecil would take the knowledge that a woman very much like his younger sibling was going to be taken from them She could hardly stand the idea herself. But this wasn’t about Rydia at the moment. This was about helping out two foreigners. Two that weren’t even from this world. She didn’t understand life at all anymore. Nothing was the same as it had been. But then again, everything changed.
Having dismissed the maid that spoke to her about Cecil, Rosa led them quickly toward where the white mages would be. Glancing over at her friend, Rosa couldn’t help but smile. “Some things never change. I think Cecil may be one of them.” It was nice, having someone worry about you, but at the same time, Rosa sometimes wished he wouldn’t worry quite so much. After all, despite the mishaps she had had in the past, Rosa was perfectly capable of taking care of herself if the situation rose that she needed to. Her mother had raised a confident, independent woman, and she needed no help. It was nice, of course, but not needed. Still, she had come to rely on Cecil the way a wife should to her husband, and a husband should toward his wife.
Striding quickly to the place of the white mages, Rosa opened the door and walked in, holding it open for the others before walking in all the way. Instantly the mages that were there in the front rooms looked up. Their looks brightened when they saw the young queen. Having studied under them for many years, Rosa was like a daughter to most, a welcomed guest. Rydia they knew of, if only in name. Though the others they wouldn’t know, anyone Rosa brought was also welcome. “Queen Rosa!” “So nice to have you with us.” “Welcome Rosa, who are your companions?”, was a question asked by one and no doubt in the thoughts of many, especially since the woman was draped in the arms of the man. “Trilaz, Meeko, Yirul, this is Gladiolus, and Kirtana. We’ve spoken about the gates that can teleport people through time. Which happened to me when Cecil had to come find me. These two came to our world from another under similar circumstances,” she tried to explain quickly. Thankfully they were all philosophers and quickly caught on.
Between their talking among themselves and to her, Rosa quickly trudged forward. “The woman has desert fever,” she stated quickly. The intakes of breath and the eyes going toward the woman, writhing there caused them to finally nod in agreement. “I dread thinking of the time when you were aflame with fever from that same illness.” Sighing, Rosa implored to the first one. “Trilaz, the pearl that was used to heal me. The elderly couple gave it to Cecil to use if on a later date someone else acquired the sickness. He told me he gave it to you. Do you still have it?” The older man pondered for so long that Rosa started moving the weight from side to side. Finally he spoke, his wise features worried. “I think we may. We had reports of a case of desert fever not too long ago…Zendi took it to Kaipo, and we haven’t had need of it since then, but… Yirul, go find Zendi.” Nodding, Rosa waited for the men to arrive again. Thankfully Yirul found Zendi quickly and came back just as swiftly. “Zendi, we have need of the sand pearl, have you still got it?” With a quick nod, the man pulled it out. “Yes Trilaz, I brought it back from my previous journey to Kaipo.” Rosa stepped forward then, her hand outstretched. “Please, may I?” Having obtained it, Rosa thanked their luck and turned back toward Gladiolus. “Lie her down on the floor.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 981 Muse:; Great once it kicked in! At least there was some sort of assistance for Gladiolus and Kirtana. With a heavy sigh, feeling his heart sink with the weight of his despair, Glady just took Rosa’s words and tried to keep himself upbeat, with a few words of encouragement and some smiles coming from the jade haired woman, he did his best to keep moving forward, for the sake of Kirtana. Remaining quiet as he trailed behind the two women, Kirtana carefully over his shoulder, he watched as the jade haired woman turned around and outstretched her hands for the lance-like weapon. “You focus on carrying her, the least I can do is assist you.” Rydia spoke in a charming voice before taking the weapon from him without his consent. Smirking slightly as she strode away, a small woman with a large weapon, he shifted the blond around in his arms, able to carry her with one hand under her knees, the other behind her back, much more comfortable for both of them.
Still moving, they’d gotten to the castle, the girls speaking about a man named Cecil, but Glady just decided to remain quiet, let Rosa do her thing and he could just be appreciative for whatever it was she was doing. Keeping up with the quick pace from both women, Gladiolus had stopped at the sight of those philosophers, the other mages Rosa had been speaking of. He looked at them, looked back at Rosa and Rydia, then finally let his gaze focus on Kirtana in his arms. He’d promised to protect her, and this was the price he paid for making promises he couldn’t keep. Hopefully she’d forgive him for that, but if something happened to her before they got a chance to heal her, Gladiolus wasn’t sure if he could forgive himself. Never before had he been in so much trouble since meeting Kirtana, but those difficult times were worth it. There was a price you paid for happiness, it always came with obstacles you needed to overcome, this one being the biggest one thus far.
Listening to what people were saying, Gladiolus still kept his eyes on Kirtana though, looking at her features, feeling his worries worsen at the sound that the healing pearl wasn’t here, but in a place called Kaipo, Rydia had mentioned it earlier. Feeling a pat on his shoulder, he glanced up, seeing the black mage at his side just trying to provide some sort of hope and comfort, she could obviously tell he was being bothered by all of these words that he didn’t really understand. Thank the heavens above that the pearl was here though. “Everything’s going to be okay, you’ll see.” She had commented quietly before Rosa started giving orders, to set Kirtana on the ground, which quickly – but carefully – Glady had accomplished. Laying the sickened blond onto the ground carefully and making sure she was somewhat comfortable, bending his knees to remain close to the ground, he let his dark eyes move to Rosa again, waiting for more orders or to just see what it was she would do. “Is there anything else I can do, Rosa?” he asked, keeping relatively quiet but wanting to aid in any way possible.
For the first time since Kirtana had gotten this dubbed ‘desert fever’, Gladiolus felt a little bit better about the outlook, but still, there was no time to waste…whatever it was Rosa was going to do to heal his girl, she needed to do it fast before it was too late. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 686 Muse: Good! She really hoped that this worked.
Rubbing a sweaty palm on her leg, Rosa ordered for the woman to be laid on the ground. She felt like a lot was resting on her shoulders here. This man was counting on her to be able to revive the woman that he was laying there. Rosa combed a hand through her blonde hair and looked over at one of the white mages. He nodded to her, obviously understanding her apprehension. Sometimes, these things didn’t work out, and she hated to be the one that would have to tell the man that she had failed to help his woman. Her mouth was dry because of it as well, but she did nothing but wet her lips and nod to him when he did indeed lay her there. It was time. No matter if she was exactly ready or not, it was time for her to try and fix this woman’s ailment, just as Cecil had fixed hers so long ago now. If Cecil, a man with no white mage abilities at that time, could do it, then so could she.
At his question of whether or not he could do anything, Rosa simply glanced up at him and shook her head. Taking another deep breath to calm herself inside, she laid a hand on his arm lightly. “No, I think all you can do is hope that this works,” she mentioned. Holding the sand pearl in her hand, Rosa simply bit her lip and then looked at the woman that was before her. Here went. And then she felt this calm aura come over her. Everything would be okay. A deep breath, and then she fingered the pearl, begging internally that it would work, and leaned over the woman with the disease. This pearl had the ability to drain the fever from her. And so she waited patiently for it to work, fingering it and then she had an idea. White swirled around her fingers, magic to give it a jump start. Infusing the pearl with cure magic, she watched as the woman began to glow. Blinking, Rosa stared down at her, and then looked at the pearl, which was illuminated in the same color.
A bright light flashed, making Rosa shield her eyes, before turning aside. A cough alerted her once the light slowly waned away. Glancing back, Rosa felt overcome with emotion when the woman grunted and pushed herself up on her elbows. Though her eyes were still somewhat cloudy, they were much sharper then they had been before. Aqua eyes clashed with blue as the woman lying on the ground stared up at the woman who had brought her back from her sickness. “Who…are you?”, came the groggy voice. “My name is Rosa, but I believe who you’re looking for is right here,” she mentioned, before scooting away so that the blonde could see the large man that had been so worried about her. “Glady…” came the voice, stronger now. Rosa sat back on her legs in relief, before she felt a hand on her shoulder. One of the white mages was there, nodding to her in approval. She felt so relieved she was almost shaky. She had to smile at the image of the woman weakly sitting up, a smile on her lips toward the larger man. In transfixed her, going from what Rosa had seen, a mere shell of a woman, to this. And it felt good…very good. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 768 Muse:; Great! Tagged:; Glady, Rydia, Kirtana Location:; White mage quarters Outfit:; Something! If Gladiolus could afford to go insane at a point like this, he’d be over the edge already. He was nearly seconds away from ripping his hair out, or turning grey altogether with as much as he was worrying, but he did his best to seem more concerned than worried like some mother hen. He was a manly man dammit! He wanted to be able to help, he really did, but he’d have to leave the tough stuff to Rosa while he and the other mage, Rydia, sat back and watched, hoping she’d be okay. Gladiolus couldn’t help it, he asked if there was anything he could do to help…but unfortunately, Rosa gave him the truth, but his worries only accelerated. He stepped back and gave the blonde some room, watching with hopeful yet worried eyes as he felt another pat on his arm, Rydia trying to be nice and comforting with a few pats as she herself was staring at Rosa and the young lady she was trying to save. It seemed anyone who wasn’t a white mage was simply frozen, staring…and waiting.
As he sat back, watching Rosa, Gladiolus watched her add a bit of magic to the pearl, sending that magic and healing power to Kirtana and watching everything happen, aside from the flash of light that caused him to look away and shield his eyes, otherwise he was sure to have been blinded. As he watched everything, his worried look turned into that of a stunned and hopeful one as he looked at Kirtana, having a bit more color to her face and now that she was awake, pushing herself to her elbows and not trying to kill everyone and anyone in sight. This was a good sign…whatever Rosa did with that pearl…it’d done Glady a world full of good, and it basically stopped his worrying like a mother hen to a grinding halt. Keeping his eyes on HIS blonde, Gladiolus listened to her voice, it was groggy, but still better than it had been before, and she looked so much better…so much healthier…she was going to be okay…Rosa had been right, Rydia had been right as well. He really did owe the two a lot, more than he could ever give back.
Moving a bit and getting to Kirtana’s other side, Gladiolus looked down at her and gave her a sheepish yet very sincere smile. He placed a hand on her shoulder before moving it to her back, lifting her up slightly so that she was more sitting than anything. “How are you feeling?” he asked quietly, taking a glance from Kirtana to Rosa and giving her a thankful nod and a smile as well before his eyes turned to the other mages, they seemed to be quite happy, as did Rydia. Turning his attention back to Kirtana, he sat flat on the ground and exhaled a deep sigh of relief, glad to know that everything was going to be okay…the worrying could be done now and he of course could just focus on finding them a way home now, that way this didn’t happen ever again. Shaking his head some, he gave a small chuckle at Kirtana, gently rubbing her back with one hand. “Gave me quite the scare.”
Rydia stood by happily, her hands clasped as she then wandered over towards Rosa and placed a hand on her shoulder as well, kneeling down so she could be at eye level to her friend. “You did an excellent job, my friend. Perhaps you deserve a rest?” she asked, tilting her head some and giving a smile. “I should be heading back to Eblan soon, I told Edge I’d check back in after my travels. Are you okay?” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 726 Muse: Good! Tagged: Rosa, Rydia, Kirtana Wearing: Already linked. Listening To: Nada! As quickly as the woman focused on her, Rosa excused herself and moved out of the way. The way Gladiolus put his hand on her back and propped her up was endearing to say the least. Rosa sighed and watched, a soft look in her bright eyes while they talked, resting on her heels. This was satisfying to see. For a while there she had been truly terrified that she would mess up or wouldn’t be able to cure the woman from the illness she had gotten. She had honestly been absolutely terrified of that, but in the end everything had worked out, and she really hadn’t had to worry. “I feel like a train ran me over,” the woman stated dully, before Rosa watched her lay a hand on Gladiolus’ knee as it to assure him that everything was fine. A day that had worked out in the end. Sitting down cross legged, Rosa fingered the desert pearl and felt a hand on her shoulder. Looking up at the white mage that had given her the pearl, she placed it into his outstretched hand. “Thank you…and for having such faith in me,” she said softly, a sincere smile on her face.
The woman sure had given him a scare. She thought that while a gentle smile lifted onto her features. This Kirtana didn’t seem to be on the verge of attacking him like she had before, once she had contracted the illness. It was amazing how the fever affected people, each in different ways. With herself, it had messed with her ability to function completely, until she had been much like the blonde had been moments before, simply lying there, her only expressions were to mutter something out. Rosa could tell though, that this man cared deeply about her, and her him. Thinking back to her own situation, Rosa was extremely glad that she’d had Cecil to care enough to go get the pearl to make her recover from the fever. It was generally the person you loved that went the extra mile to make sure that you were always okay. “I don’t remember anything,” her voice spoke out. “What happened?”
Rosa decided to allow them some privacy. Feeling another hand on her shoulder, Rosa glanced up at her friend and nodded at her words. “Yes, yes of course. The biggest part is over with,” she mentioned softly. She really did need a rest. This whole pregnancy thing was even worse when it came to how easily her energy was drained. She hardly had to do anything and she was exhausted, as was the case now. Really though, she wanted nothing bad to happen to the babe. “I’m fine,” she said quickly, gaining her feet and giving her friend a hug. As she drew away, she caressed her friends cheek. “Tell Edge hello, and-…Rydia, if you need anything, please, please let me know.” Rosa would be torn apart if she could really do nothing for her friend. Patting Rydia’s arm, she motioned to Gladiolus. “If you’d like to follow me, I could find you a place to rest. I’m sure you’d both like some privacy,” she added, her aqua eyes flickering from one to the other. And she could use the rest as well…she cold definitely use the rest. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words:; 768 Muse:; Great! Sweet relief, that was all Gladiolus felt right now as he looked down at Kirtana. She looked so much better than she had moments ago, and he had Rosa to thank for that. Shaking his head slightly, almost feeling silly with how worried he had been before, he was just glad that everything seemed to be turning for the better. Kirtana seemed normal and wasn’t ready to bite anyone’s head off. Chuckling at her words, Gladiolus sighed a bit, not in stress, but of relief. “I guess you’d feel that way. You’ve been through a lot.” He said honestly before she spoke again. Not having remembered? Well that was probably a good thing, he could at least inform her briefly as to what happened, but he didn’t want to upset her by any means with any details, like getting a bit feisty and angsty along the way. “Let’s just say…you were bitten by a wild animal, and that certainly knocked you off your rocker.” He said with a grin, hoping to lighten her mood a bit.
Rydia didn’t want to leave necessarily, but the day had pretty much been saved, she should’ve already been on her way back to Eblan by now. Shaking her head a bit and looking at Rosa, her concerned friend, she gave a small nod. “Of course Rosa. I’ll keep in touch, I promise. And if I ever need anything I will contact you. Also, send Cecil my apologies for not sticking around longer. I’ll…be heading off now.” She said with a sincere smile before feeling her arm being pattered and letting Rosa get back to being a wonderful host, like she always was. It was back to Eblan for Rydia, the road wouldn’t be long and hell…she could summon her mist dragon and make it there in a fraction of the time should she feel like using that kind of energy for a ride. After today though…a nice rest would be worth the effort. With one final friendly glance towards Gladiolus and his lady, a brief wave as well, Rydia took her leave silently, not wanting to cause for a distraction should she ever prove to be one. She hoped the best for Gladiolus and Kirtana, and she wished there was more she could tell Rosa…but unfortunately…there just wasn’t much more she could do today, the rest was out of her hands.
Turning back to look at Rosa, Gladiolus hoisted Kirtana into his arms, not wanting her to try and walk around or lose energy, she was probably exhausted as it was. “We’d appreciate that, Rosa.” He said while giving the hospitable blonde a sincere smile, he was too grateful for her assistance, as well as her friend’s help as well. Had Gladiolus not ran across those two…he probably would’ve still been stuck in the middle of nowhere with a broken down Kirtana, or worse. He simply didn’t want to think about it, the only thing he knew was that he was in the right place at the right time. “Hey Rosa…have you…heard anything about portals? That’s how Kirtana and I got here you know…and…we haven’t really thought much of them on my home world. Do you guys know anything about them? Stability? When they show up and what not…I mean…just out of curiosity.” He asked with a small shrug, adjusting Kirtana in his arms as he did so, not wanting to rush out of here right away, they all needed a bit of rest after today…but it’d be nice to know if there was a pointer or hint she could give him for future reference. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Words: 715 Muse: Great! Sitting up with a bit of difficulty, Kirtana steadied herself on Gladiolus’ arm and looked up at him through somewhat glassy eyes. When he agreed that she must feel like that, she nodded and grimaced at how dry her throat felt. She really did feel as if she had been run over by a train or something, with her body feeling like she couldn’t move very well, if at all. She hadn’t felt this weak since the pillars had landed on her lower half. Gladiolus always seemed to be rescuing her, though she hadn’t been quite so accident prone before she had met him either, so that had to account for something. Right? Of course. Leaning against him, Kirtana closed her eyes and shook slightly, before getting a grip on herself and sitting there.
When he explained what had happened, she simply looked up at him, trying to remember it in her own mind. Unfortunately, she could do no such thing, and finally resigned herself to that with a sigh. If he said that some wild animal had bitten her and caused this, than it must have been that. She couldn’t believe that any wild animal could have made her feel like this without her having some memory of what had happened, but she decided that she wasn’t going to question it…she just would have liked to remember what had happened while she had been in such a state as she had been. Kirtana didn’t like not knowing what else had been going on, and this certainly was one of those times when she had no recollection of anything that had happened. “I should be more careful next time I suppose.”, she commented dryly, before craning her head to look at the two women that were conversing. They only spoke for a few moments before the one said her goodbyes and walked away. Kirtana only watched in a grog as they said their goodbyes, mind still foggy.
Being lifted easily into Glady’s arms, Kirtana tucked her head against his chest and relaxed against him, her eyes closed while she listened to the blonde and Gladiolus speak back and forth, not saying anything, but she did lightly nod when the blonde offered them a place to stay. She would appreciate that more than they realized, being utterly exhausted and still foggy brained. Simply resting in Glady’s arms, she laid a palm against his chest, head tucked up by his shoulder and allowed him to carry her to wherever this bed was. She felt like she could sleep straight for the next twenty four hours and then be rested up.
When the blonde stopped and opened the door to a bedroom, Kirtana opened her eyes slightly, watching this Rosa step into the room and gesture to the large bed that rested up against the wall. The effort tired her again though, and so she rolled her head back toward him, closing her eyes when she did so. She was ready for sleep. “Portals…yes. I myself was sent through a portal to another world." Rosa rested her hand on his arm and nodded toward the woman he had in his arms. “You’re tired. Rest up, and when you have, then we can talk about these portals and finding a way back to your home. Please sleep well,” she said firmly, before turning and walking out of the door. Kirtana closed her eyes in bliss and sighed lightly.
She was asleep before he even laid her on the bed.
